Hey Chris

How about an update on the move from San Carlos to Fremont. Move was planned to be complete by the 18th. Is that still the case? Will there be one last race at San Carlos or will the next race take place at the new location?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, enquiring minds want to know!

I have a new "stock" car I want to test out. Beware of the yellow Beetle cause it's pretty quick on my carpet track at home:>

BTW Robert and Demick in case you hadn't heard, I won MR-01 Open down south and got 2nd in F1. Big shouts out to Maurice for helping me to get my F1 squared away better.

Congrats! I guess you got your MR-01 Vette handling better too as the last time you raced it at H.T. was the worst I've ever seen you drive.

Makes me want to come down to RCX for the last chance qualifier.

Gee thanks:p Actually, the car was fast and I got it working fair but I was fighting a tweak and a traction roll like nobody's business. I was fast but I wasn't even on the gas most of the time. I had to baby it around the track to avoid the dreaded traction roll. I was lifting way early and not able to drive it in deep and that was even with harder tires. I learned a few new things about tires and setup so the trip was worthwhile and the guys down there were all really nice.

If I had my car working a little better I certainly could have checked out. But you know how it goes, woulda, coulda, shoulda... :) There were 2 things attributing to the tweak. One was a locator pin for the little triangle had snapped so I had involuntary rear steer which is no fun. Then I discovered the second thing when I tried to fix it in the hotel room and had discovered I went a little CA-happy when I tried to fix a screw hole last year sometime. When I got it all apart, there was some CA buildup that I had to carefully Dremel but never got it quite perfect. I am pretty convinced I never got the h-bar to sit flat so I still had some tweak present. Sure I could have fixed the problem easy in the hotel but I left the one thing at home I needed... my new chassis:( Nevertheless, I have since fixed it all and I should be ready for the nats.

I would like to come up and test it out sometime before then and also my new stock Beetle I built. Surprisingly enough, that little pure stock Beetle with the 92mm wheelbase actually handles really well. Now I need to try it on the RCP track. I will talk to Chris tonight and see what's up.

> Makes me want to come down to RCX for the last chance qualifier.

You really should, it'll be a blast. If you think we've run some fast laps, wait until you throw down with Bill Crotty and Philip Ng those guys are quite fast and smooth. Maybe we'll have to CA them to the table to slow them down a bit.[bwahaha]

I have heard that Kyosho is going to be taking people who have not yet qualified into the nats from the LCQ. Meaning if the top 6 in the A have already qualified, it goes to the next elligible 6 in the B and so on. I have not heard this confirmed from Alex' mouth yet but it would be the best way to handle things IMO. If you are going to do it, I ould do so soon since there are only 50 spots open and we have no idea how full it is.

***UPDATE FROM CHRIS***

Hobbytown, USA San Carlos will be closed as of this coming Sunday. That means the final race at the San Carlos location is going to be this Friday night 4-16-04. Racing starts promptly at 8:00pm so we can get it all in before the kids go to sleep;)

The cost is $5 per class for the first two classes. Additional classes are free. The fees are for everyone and there will be PRIZES. So far it's looking like 1st place gets a body (don't know if it's an Autoscale) and 2nd and 3rd take home parts (which we always need).

Let's try to stay off the funnies this time too folks because we know it causes problems. At the regional in Palmdale there were plenty of people who had trouble due to funnies.

I look forward to racing with all of you this Friday!!!

Is anyone going to RCX?

Hey Mike - I'll see you there tonight.

Last night I did a FET stack and put an S03 motor into my Monster. Also added some GPM radials. It is really fast and can easily pop wheelies from a standstill (hmm, I have a funny feeling I'm going to break something tonight). The new tires actually chirp and squeal on hardwood floors. Kind of cool.

Fremont store isn't open yet. I don't know what the status is. Could be weeks, could be months, who knows?

I'll stop by H.T. Newark and try and get an update one of these days.

Maybe someone who knows the status will chime in here....

I know they are still "negotiating" so it is a matter of "when" more than anything. I get the feeling that Chris is intentionally keeping some details quiet and I would do the same. Until everything is done and signed, there is no use talking about it.

In the mean time, I am likely going to buy some track and may be interested in travelling with it if people have free garage or floor space. Then we could set up impromptu races whenever we feel the need.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say hello. I canít wait to race again, the mini is only getting living room use and needs some track to stretch its legs a little. Fraz it was good to see you down at RCX also. It has been a crazy last few weeks. RCX weekend before last, then I took my oldest daughter to great America last Saturday. Then on Sunday I was out at Infinion (Sears Point) for the AMA super bike races, should be on speed channel tonight if anyone is interested.

Anyways take it easy and I canít wait to run the monster with you guys again!

Another update after speaking to the owner. It appears the move is now set to be complete by October. The good news is that they are planning on both a 4X set RCP track indoors for the Zs and an large outdoor 1/10th track for electrics and get this: even GAS cars! Not sure how they are going to get away with that one but I will be there for the first Z race for sure.

I checked with the store yesterday and talked to the owner. They appear set to have a "soft opening" on Saturday if all goes well! Not sure when the official grand opening is but he definitely said that Z racing was not going to be ready for at least a couple of weeks so here's hoping that it happens sooner then later.

I might stop by anyways to see how big the store is....that and I need to pick up an Aerobird Xtreme or F27 Stryker :D

Maxfield
2004.10.08, 08:17 AM
Well, Hooray, he's finally getting the store going. I've got some RCP track too (2 L's and a mini96) if anyone feels like organizing a pick up race.

Did they say the mini z track would be up all the time?

BovineD
2004.10.11, 01:36 AM
Stopped by the new store today and man, it is HUGE! They are still putting things together and the RC section is a mess but there is definitely more then enough room for a large Z track. Talked to the owner and he still does not know when Z racing will start but seems to have a nice part of the store set for the RCP tracks.

Here is hoping it happens within the next couple of weeks. Everybody local make sure to stop on by and let them know you want Z racing!

I hate to ask this, but where's the Fremont hub?

BovineD
2004.10.12, 03:36 PM
The fremont hub is centrally located on the intersection of Mowry Ave and Fremont Ave in Fremont. Basically if you take 880N or S depending on your direction and get off on mowry ave and go east (L if coming from 880S; R if 880N) and go down until you hit fremont ave then take a right.

http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=uhwJg.p_0Tq_9jPPP5D4pzYMwkYNFLSCcqo pQSxLvKfV&csz=fremont+ca&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=

1/18th scale would be sweet. Time to dust off the MRS4!

Its easy to find. From hwy 880, exit Mowry Ave East in Fremont. Drive east on Mowry Ave for about a mile and you will see the Fremont Hub shopping center on the right side, just before the intersection of Mowry Ave and Fremont Blvd.

Hobbytown is in the Fremont Hub. Its a small mall, so you can't miss the big Hobbytown signs.

I practice there like 2-3 times a week. Lately, mini-z racing is getting pretty popular here in Fremont. The owner has another location ( Newark : the old Hobbytown USA ). He is thinking about putting a HUGE mini-Z track at that location very soon. The mini-z track in fremont will remain there until further for customers to try out thier new cars. If the Newark hobbytown happens, it'l be one of the biggest mini-z facilities in the bay area.

Thats right. Racing is back and stronger than ever at Hobbytown USA in Fremont. This may be the last race there, until we move to the grand room of mini-z racing............Newark HobbyTown USA. Finally, a perminent mini-z facility all year round. HUGE RCP track with parts available for sale. It should be alot of fun.

We had a great day of practice with a special guest, Steve " BadBody" Tsurada showing up and fast as ever !!! Now, all we need is Fraz to show-up and we got some serious racing ahead. ( YO ! FRAZIER ! WHERE YOU AT FOO !! ).

Newark is not going to happen, but they are racing tomorrow the 14th in Fremont. They'll propably change the track in the afternoon for raceday. Usually the track is twice to three times the size compare to the everyday track. Have fun guys, i will not be able to race tomorrow. So someone give Maxfield (a.k.a. That would be really great. You can call David at 510-796-2744 ( HobbyTown USA : Fremont ). He's the owner of HT Fremont. We can't put out a big enough layout like the photos because space is limited in the HT Fremont location. The track you see here in the photos is the old location where hobbytown use to be. What a great offer. The owner's name is Dave and I'm not sure what you could do offhand, but we have a thriving mini-Z community with racers practicing everynight at the shop.

I do know they've loved your custom offroad tracks and if you have one after a show that you need to get rid of (or "store") somewhere, I think they would be very interested.

Roger, looking forward to that specially broken in Xspeed - I saw your post. thanks dude.

Hey, anyone going to practice Sat 2/11/05? I can't make the TC race, but I will duck in for an hour or two of MZ practice. Hope the big track layout is still up.

Unfortunately, the HUGE track wasn't set-up because of the scheduled 1/10th scale electric race tommorrow ( 2/12 ). The current track layout is fairly large, fast, and technical.

Hey Guys -

Do you think we should start a new thread that has a better name than "update" on Fremont move" ?

Like "Update: HT has already moved to Fremont" ? :p

Anyone going there today for practice? Is the track even up? I went by yesterday and it was down for the 1/10 race outside.

Good question, almost hopped in the car. I'm hoping for tomorrow afternoon then.
