Is there a "safe" way to take a motor apart and take a couple of turns out of an X-Speed or any other motor? And how many turns does the stock Overland motor have?

i think stock motors are around 60 turns... xspeed is 50... speedy is 45
and speed works with stock pcb...
so you can try...

just unclamp the wire, cut it at each pole, unwind a few turns, reclamp and solder
then test with ammeter to see how much it draws on a brand new set of 4 AAAs

I read 52 on the speedy.

I had a 45 turn MZW motor and it burned up my fet in my enzo. I emailed the MZW guy and he was real cool about it and sent me some free stuff for the trouble. I had the fried enzo upgraded with a 4X2 fet stack and now its fine. I like the MZW dude so I ordered 2 35 turn motors from him they work great! They are as fast as some of the other motors that cost like $40+!!

keep the X-Speed as is, and take the winds of of a stock motor ;) - same result... only you save money on the motor lol...

x-speed is 50
stock is 70 (rumor use to be some stock were 80)

even an x-speed can fry the PCB... at 50 winds.. (if you say try to push a wall for too many seconds) ...so be carful going less than 50.

I think the motor I use has 48 or so...

but the number of winds alone isnt enough, the thickness of the wire matters too... all relative.

I haven't attempted on modding my X-Speed yet, and probably won't. (Because everything I touch, breaks.) At least this is good info for someone daring enough to do it.

The 45 turn motor that burned up your FETS did it have Neo or black magnets? I have run two of MZW 45 turn motors with black magnets and never had a problem with my stock board. I could see how the 45-turn motor with Neo would burn up the FET’s. All so for reference the stock motor has 70 turns according to Towers web site.
:D

I think that it did have neo magnets...that would explain it.

I tried taking 21 turns off two different stock motors and performance afterwards is about the same as an X-speed. Beats chucking them in the trash anyway.

The stock motor has 70 turns and the X speed has 50 so the turns would be about right but the X speed has much stronger magnets but not Neo. :D
