OK, one in the books and I did not take any photos. There were many cameras there though so I expect some to be popping up soon. Congratulation to Jamie and Phil for their one, two finish. Yours truley came in 3rd my .01 seconds behind Phil. Look out, I'll get you next time. :p I was leading until a little mishap in the 2nd turn last lap :o . Oh well, that is what this kind of raceing is all about. At least I did walk away with the fastest lap time of the night. (and I think a new track record! 3.16 sec!! ) We have approx 14 racers tonight. Hope this kind of turnout keeps up. Congratulations again and Thank you Eric for coming up with this and hosting it. Maybe next week we can be on the live cam!!

PAULANGELO

Actually, number 3 isn't taken yet at the shop. I think it's because everyone knows Eric would want it. the track was very diverse. an I had no problem keeping track of my 43 car! I cannot wait till Eric gets the video up and running!

paul, a couple of us from teh washington gtg's would like to make a trip up to cp for some cup car racing. it will be awhile i'm sure as only 2 of us have them yet but were hoping to get up there ;) hopefully before the next k. cup race or at worst we'll be there for that.

That would be great to get some new blood to spill on the track! :p I mean new racers. Last nights turnout was awsome. I have never seen (except the Kyosho Mini Z Cup) more people for a weekly series there. Eric designed these too well though. Not one knuckle or steering plate broke last night. Only thing they sold was tires, batteries and soda! Actually, I don't think anyone broke last night!

so what are yout tips for setup on the rcp surface? 20 deg tires all around? toe in or out? standard rear shock or oil shock?

PAULANGELO
2004.09.21, 09:09 AM
oh where to start!!! 35 on the front and 23 on the back. I have a rear suspension mod that I will try to photograph and post. BUT the two screws that hold the motor pod to the suspension bars are replaced with F1 or MR02 king pins. You need to drill out the motor pod so that the pins go through. Then from the top of the chassis, I have medium (green) MR01 springs and the spacer for the MR02 front end to compress the springs. I also have a GPM MR01 damper mounted to help stableize the back end. I cut off the two little knobs on the motor mount that go through the suspension bars also. This may sound confusing but the photos will help. Also we can only run the GP CP cup (ones for the mini z Cup) batteries and they also have newer green batteries with the CP logo on them that are legal. This way no one can use "hot" batteries. I really like how hooked up this car is ont he track. Also have a Xspeed with a 8 tooth pinonin it. I tried the 7 tooth but is wouldn't keep up. Oh yea, I have a soft suspension bar on the right and the Med one on the left of the car also. Not using the ones that came with the kit.

Have you tried staggering the springs and tires on that track yet? After all, it is banked and round.

PAULANGELO
2004.09.21, 12:58 PM
It's not banked anymore! All new track for us to race on!!!! What do you mean by staggering?

I don't think so Phil. You came in .01 seconds ahead of me and I was using the old batteries!!! just wait till I learn how to zap these things like you do!!! :p :D

When full-size and 1/4 scale RC cars for that matter run on an oval banks the set-up is usually staggered. The tires are a different outside diameter size and the suspension is set up differently since the road surface is not flat. In a Mini-Z set up, that could consist of using slightly different compound tires (left and right as well as front and rear), different suspension springs, and different shock settings.

Hammer we still need a no17 car in are races maybe if you hit the lottery you could buy a private jet and come race with us.

On second thought if I hit the lottery and got a jet I think I could find a better place then Clifton Park to go and race like the Daytona international speedway.

Why? Is that an RCP track?  They didn't cut the tracks did they?

Why? Is that an RCP track?  They didn't cut the tracks did they?

Yes, it is RCP. We manufacture blank tiles with the custom RCP texture, no PIN holes and links on all four sides, specifcally for clubs that want a track surface that performs better than ozite, but want to use their existing wood rail. CP's already resurfaced their large oval/road course track with RCP and just recently used it on their large Nascar Oval.

well... all I know is that my Z's would never forgive me for running on a track without RCP rails ever again... My beater bodies look like hell before I got the RCP, now they all look like... well, hell, but that is my fault. lol jk, they look so much better without the extra collision damage.

Yes, this is true. We set up a very large RCP track, today at the Rialto, California store, for the big PN racing event this weekend. The shop currently has an ozite racing carpet surface with wood rails. The RCP surface was a great upgrade to the track, since our custom groomed tiles offered better traction than the racing ozite and the soft side rails were a blessing to those who were use to wood rail impacts.

See track picture below. Also you go here http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14950 for a race video on the track.

The trick to that is to "stay off the walls!" :p

Congrats to Phil on the win tonight ........good job ..........as for myself finishing second was good but i still need to do my home work and tone the oval skills with the little cars...my personel opinion is that the track is too small for 7 cars but thats racin and i'll have to get better in the traffic jams or slow my car down, see everyone next monday night !.............Big Dave the Intimadator #3

just wanted to give everyone an update for those who were wondering where I was last monday night.
My REAL car kicked the bucket last week (2001 Kia Optima) So I sold it for whatever I could get for it. and spent last week gathering funds and credit from all different institutions to buy a new one.
Well, Thursday I bought a 2005 Black Honda Civic VP. Its nothing really special. I love the car. Its an Auto 117 hp, yet its geared for some pretty good torque and acceleration off a dead start. I get 40 MPG which was another main reason why I bought it. So to make a long story short, Ive had little time to finish any videos of the first CP cup racing series. I have raw footage I might just release on RCpics. I am setting up an account with them now. I ll try and get everyone something good soon.
I hope. AND most importantly I ll be back racing this monday. Can't wait to go flipping off the track again.
