The track is 70cm wide.
The idea for the track is from Cargel Stockholm Sweden (http://www.cargel.se/media.htm), click on the tracks for larger images.

Seastar.. I noticed at least 2 tracks in the same building, How many cars do they run per track at the same time??? Is thier a freq problem....

I always wondered if I could open up a Mini Z race location and actually make enough money to pay for itself??? But it seams that for the amount of cars that can run at one time you could not make enough to cover your overhead cost of operation...

How many 27mHz frequencys are there, 13?
Then some run on 40mHz.
But 6 cars on one track at the same time is enough for a clean race.

In Sweden the PST (the office running the radio frequencies) has let a range free for RC usage. We are running a number of frequencies with minimum 0.020 between.

So with some cheating there are room for 20-30 cars at the same time without needing to share frequencies.

We are running up to 8 cars on each track at the same time. It's abit crowded if beginners and racers are running at the same time but it works.

And as always there are companies that take their staff oput to try and that pays alot of the rent for Jimmy who runs the show.

Thanks for the link, I can see that it turned out well. Lots of fun i'm sure. Are you able to run F1s?

I'm not associated with this particular track, but I suppose that F1's can be run on it. At the link below, there is a video of F1's running on a similar track, also made with Regupol.

Maybe Seastar can better answer your question.

Seastar,

Well done!
I think it is much nicer and makes much more sense to race in a track that looks and performs like a real one. Particularly when using highly detail cars like the Mini-Z.
I believe that the Scandinavian way is the way to go!

I have been lucky to get my hands on some Regupol. What I've got is a 6 mm mat which is quite heavy but at the same time very firm. I see that tracks there prefer 4 mm. Is there a reason? Have anyone tried using 3 mm carpets?
How are the kerbs made?

I would be grateful if you or someone else can answer my questions.

hey Calgary Racer.....where did you get the Regupol...Was it in town here or did you have to special order it....as well how much was it costing to pick some up.

Thanks

I checked the vid and it's very cool. Is the shop there built into the side if a mountain? I notice a wall that is very 'rocky' lookin. I also checked the vids for the offroad track and that's pretty cool. I like that it's modulare. It gives me some ideas for my own OL/MZM track.

Hey I just noticed that second track that gRC linked to is in Norway, and not to far from where I live! I might give them a call and take a little trip there with some of the other guys from KRS. :)

I think I have to check out that Regupol myself, sounds/looks nice.

id like to know what the guys are using fro barriers on those tracks ,looks fantastic.

minten

Almost always some kind of plastic sheet that is cut in to suitable pieces.

The benefits of using plastic (Like acrylic or Lexan) is that it's easy to work with and cheap. It's also durable for impacts. Some has tried aluminum rails but these was to hard on the cars so I think that they switched to plastic. Masonite is also used but it's not as durable.

For the Cargel tracks the plastic is not only cut but also finished with two milled tracks and after that sanded down to get the right look. Then it's shaped and bent to fit.

It's time consuming to do the rails but it really gives the track a good look.

For more protection for the cars at high speed impact places the rails is covered with foam material used for seal doors and then the commercial signs are attache outside. The last piece of protection in the corners is old rubbertires from F1 cars that we used to run earlier.

good to know ,I have an idea of what you did.

Am in the process of building a track in my shop ,8m x 6m.
Tried to get Regupol but local distributor hasnt got any any and only gets when they have a large construction contract.
As a substitute ti they get some regupol I am using incersion rubber sheet 1.5mm thick.
We will have to see how good the traction will be.
For the green infield I am using pool table felt.

What are the guys using for the white lines and sharks teeth on the corners ???

minten

Interesting choice of using pool table felt. Thin and I guess that it will be slippery if you put your tires on the "grass". Let us know how it goes.

The white sections is only regular paint, nothing fancy at all. But at Cargel we have seald the edge at the maskingtape with black paint and then white.

The curbs are painted plywood or masonite.

Here in Halmstad/Sweden we have 1/18 track indoor with about 1.2-1.5meter wide track. We are driving Half8, and Shark18/Vendetta cars, it works nice.

But for the Mini-Z we have(are building) a track that are 0.9-1.2 meters wide track. We have some thoughts to run micro-T on that track as well, just build some jumps and drive away.

I only have space for one track so have to compromise on track width.
Looks like I will have to run 1m - 1.2m
Will do a mock setup and see what its like.
