X-ray what? This is the prototype NRX-18 designed by none other than Masaaki Hirosaka himself. For those of you that don't know, Masaaki is Masami Hirosaka's (bazillion times world champion in every form of r/c) father and mechanic. Also designs a good portion of the prototype equipment that finds its way onto Masami's car. Together they were YMP (Yokomo Miracle Products) and created such insanities as the special YRX10, MX-4 and MR-4TC versions. The new NRX-18 will be produced by NHW, the Hirosakas' new company in collaboration with a Chinese manufacturer.

Pretty neat.

I guess that no one cares about the baddest 1/18 to ever be made.

MZR's sister site has a big thread talking about this new car that I started about a month ago. Have a look there, good info and pictures.

Well, we haven't seen it for sale yet...
They've copied the XRay M18 in many aspects too, so I wouldn't call it "ground breaking" Micro technology
However Masaaki's YMP 1/18 will cost a small fortune, so most people will buy HPI Micro RS4s and XRay M18s :)
Nice if you're a collector, probably nice if you race Micro class, however I don't believe the spares for the YMP will be found on EBay or on the parts hangars at the LHS, so as great as this product is, those factors alone would deter most from buying one.

I do agree though... it is a magnificent Micro and I may just add one to my collection

The only thing taken from the Xray is the shaft drive and that's so common that it's hard to say that it's "copied". Most all touring cars are very similar, but it's the small details and geometries that truly separate a world-class chassis from and also-ran. Usually these things only come from experience, of which Masaaki probably has more than anyone else. It has a relatively unique suspension in that it is 1/10-style instead of cantilevered.

And spares are for hacks. :D Really though, the car is going to be distributed by Powers, which is distributed by Schumacher USA. Their affiliation with Schumacher should make parts availability a snap in England.

it seemst eh old man has signed with Powers...could this be the first RC sponsorship for someone who cat drive a car to the A main? Look for everything from cars to matteries assembled by the legend himself...also look for your bank account to drop signifigantly.

It looks like he designed an all-in-one servo/esc/rx. It's clean and compact but expensive to have a spare in the pit box if you happen to strip the servo or fry the esc. Any specs on that?

Hmmm, you should find this link very, very interesting (http://www.kyosho.co.jp/web/race/race_event/event/2005_hobyshow/nrx-18-j.html)
Looks like Kyosho have the manufacturing part of this.
It's also rumoured that Shcumacher (the UK RC manufacturer) are also involved in this new Micro (http://www.racing-cars.com/main.asp?sitepages=Nurnberg) although they claim it's 1:20 scale!

The plot thickens.... ;)

Schumacher is not in any way involve with the micro, they are just the distrubritur in the USA and it is a 1/18th scale hence the name NRX-18. I don't know why its related to Kyosho as well but they are just showing the new NRX-18 1/18th scale car in the Kyosho booth at the Japan Shizuoka Hobby Show coming this week May 12-15th.

...anyone have the link for this thread on the 'sister-site'? this family is so bloddy big now its hard to now who is who :D

...the BASIC model, the type S, will retail here for about 8000 JPY, the carbon loaded R type will be about 30,000 or so the man says...

...the brains are apparently coming from KO...which is BASICALLY the electronics division of KYOSHO, which would mean the esc is, oh golly, BASICALLY a Mini Z board !! lol...History repeats itself and then eats it own head...
