Known about it for about a month now. Been eagerly awaiting arrival...

I see no one noticed the motor mount that it's attached to... ;)

TITANIUM did.

It looks pretty cool. When will both items be released?

Disk damper just became available now. I'm expecting it in my order. The motor mount is still TBD, but I expect it by the end of June along with Atomic's F1 ball diff.

TITANIUM

i e-mailed that site and they reported mid june for avail on the motor mount...
i wonder what the weight diff will be compared to the stock....

Dang, more parts to order. And here I thought the Zs would sit on the shelf until around October. By the way T, I ran the Kyosho Mini-Inferno in Cedar with the Nomadio Sensor radio. Opps, I'm sorry this is not a Mini-Inferno thread. ;) Hope you did well at the drags.

Are you placing an order later for the mount too? Anyway, let me know how both parts fare--disk damper and motor mount. Don't forget to weigh them. :p

will do...
also, I will update this thread with details...
like I wonder about the screws that hold the plate, if they strip out the chassis....or are there nuts hanging from below..... :o
etc...etc...

no, the mount is not on my hot list.....but maybe would make it if the weight is close to stock.

TITANIUM
2005.06.02, 08:51 PM
so i guess ruf will need to weigh them

ruf
2005.06.02, 08:51 PM
The weight will be close, but the motor position will not be as good. You will have much easier gear mesh adjustment though.

TITANIUM
2005.06.02, 08:52 PM
also note there is no RR side springs.....

i didnt think the motor position would be that bad...compared to the stock

ruf
2005.06.02, 08:55 PM
Still pretty decent. The tension of the disk damper should compensate for the side springs a little.

TITANIUM
2005.06.03, 02:23 PM
ya, I agree...it looks to have allot of surface to allow for true tuning...compared to the K dampener...(which I love compared to the single shock)
so I guess all will be happy on my Ranch......

Haven't gotten them in yet. They came out a week after I placed my Atomic order. I just couldn't wait any longer for the rest of the order. I will place another order before the end of the month though.

Ok, so we tried a TON of new parts out this weekend. The Atomic disk damper is AWESOME. Corner speed is excellent and the plant from the tires on corner exit is better as well. DEFINITELY recommended. Think the Kyosho roll-pitch damper effect x3. It is not without it's drawbacks though. I had to hack up my 4-16 body quite a bit to make it fit. I don't know what body it is designed for, but definitely not the 4-16 or 4-19. I will try some other bodies this weekend.

Bandie

..the alloy parts looks really nice, but from my point of view its to heavy from the weight. It cant be lighter than the original plastic parts.
Even the damper parts are more weight for sure.
BTW: Guess only modified motors will fit to the alloy power pod because the stocl motor hast no screw hole, right?

ruf
2005.06.13, 01:02 PM
It's very easy to drill mounting holes in your stock motor can. We do it all the time. I can't STAND the gear mesh you get with the stock motor mounts.

I usually don't like aluminum on my car from a weight standpoint as well, but not in this case. The Atomic aluminum motor mount is 10g. The extra heatsinking of the aluminum motor mount is definitely welcome since the stock motor mount starves the motor from any cooling airflow. The damper weight is negligible, and the handling benefit is definitely worth it.

Hey Ruf, two questions. What the heck is a 4-16/4-19 body???

And I see that you are kind of down on the Atomic tires, what brand of tires do you suggest for the F1's?

Thanks

Mclaren MP4-16. Mclaren MP4-19. When I said 4-16/19, I'm using a 4-16 body with 4-19 wing. Nothing special. Just for looks.

Kyosho 20 grooved rears. Kyosho 20 slick front or 23 grooves or 23 slick fronts. It's all there on my setup sheet. :D

so do you think any torque/speed will be gained in the latter of a race due to the motor having better cooling?

Yah. After I get your money, bye bye! hahahaha! Sorry been busy getting everything prepared for next weekend's race. I'm not sure about the heat effecting the motors that much when you go to neo-magnets. I don't know how they respond to heat. The ceramic magnets in the box stock motors could definitely use some help in the longer runs.

Ruf, is blue the only color available for the DPS and motor mount? I would really like silver or red (at least motor mount) for one of my F1's.

ruf
2005.06.27, 06:05 PM
Blue is the only color currently available. Silver would be very easy to do by just taking the anodization off with oven cleaner. I am considering doing a special run of "Reflex limited edition" motor mounts (Atomic F1 and PN MR02 MM) in black anodization.

just wondering what the weight diff is between the two...anybody know?

ruf
2005.06.27, 07:44 PM
No rear springs because that is what was shown in the pic on the Atomic site. I haven't played with the setup enough yet to lock down a "with spring" setup. I don't have access to a scale right now so someone else will have to find out how much the stock pod weighs.

TITANIUM
2005.06.27, 09:53 PM
well I started to get this installed....
after cutting off the top tip of the pod and counter-sink underneth into the plastic pod to install the shaft & set screw...
I put on some blue thread lock for the set screw...that was a mistake...after about five minutes the post was moving back and forth...the plastic had completely melted around the screw hole...
so anyway...the point of this post is not to put thread lock anywhere near plastic......
good thing ia have another pod to use....
after I get around to trying this install again.... I will test this out Saturday...(I hope)

ruf
2005.06.27, 09:57 PM
Dang dude. That sucks. I put my loctite in the brass shaft thing.

TITANIUM
2005.06.27, 10:02 PM
ya, when i tightend down the shaft, the extra thread-lock went around onto the plastic...then started its thing....

TITANIUM
2005.06.27, 10:15 PM
what new parts?

ruf
2005.06.27, 10:18 PM
F1 motor mounts. Restock on the parts that I got cleaned out of this past weekend. Should be getting Kyosho too if I can round up the scratch for that order on top of the weeks Atomic and PN order. Sigh...

TITANIUM
2005.07.02, 07:56 PM
well I tested this today...finally....
it seems to me that the rear side spring do need to be in for good handling...
with out them it would then to slide out on me....

TITANIUM
2005.07.25, 01:41 PM
Anyway for some reason when I used the new alloy pod with the new DSP system all handling was just great without side rear springs....

TITANIUM
2005.07.29, 01:26 AM
thee jury is still out on if the weight issue of the alloy pod, if it is an issue....
but one thing that was great was, I needed zero shims for tweak...
also, maybe the little extra weight is good for traction...? im not sure but it may be worth it..... :D

i just though i would throw this out there....not that anybody seem to care about anything i have to say...sniff...sniff... :(

I think we should start a list of body compatibilities with this disk damper:

#1) Williams FW25 - Perfect fit! No cutting! My fave team too! ;)
#2) Mclaren MP4-19 - Requires moderate cutting. The "tail" will probably have to go.
#3) Mclaren MP4-16 - Requires moderate cutting. Cut a "heart-shaped" hole in the engine cover.
#4) Toyota TF102 - Requires MASSIVE cutting. Had to cut an "M" into the back.

i installed a atomic damper system on my stock motor pod to and it worked...

i drive a ferrari body(2001 edition) and i had to dremel a bit of the body at the inside.
i also dremeld a alloy heatsink, 1 : for more space between body and sink, and 2 : because of the atomic damper that needs some room over the motor.

ruf, you had mentioned in one of the threads that you went to Kyosho America in CA and you said you saw F1 bodies there along with the F1 chassis sets. Any clue which F1 bodies were there (Jordan-Fords?)? Any idea when they will become available for purchase?

Like I mentioned before, the Williams FW25 works perfectly. Atomic has stated that it was designed for the Ferrari, I can only assume that they meant the F2004.

I think they had a Jordan of some sort. Don't know if it was one of the later ones. I can call my rep and ask. If it is, would you like me to order one for you? Which one specifically?
