Starting November 1st, we're giving away a $10 Gift Certificate each month to the best Product Review posted to http://shop.tinyrc.com. So that we know who posted what, please post a link in this thread in order to be considered. By "best" we don't mean that it lavishes the product with the most praise, but rather that it is the most informative and is well written, with bonus points for things like details of threads and galleries on MZR that contain further information relevant to the item. Let us know if you have any questions - thanks! :)

How do you write a review? I can't see a review button on the page anywhere? Sorry.

EDIT: I wasn't logged in. Oops. It is available when logged in.

Great new feature, I hadn't noticed we could do this with the new shop. One thing to note, though...it seems there is a word/character count limit on the reviews, but there is no mention of it where you enter your review (and no way to edit a review you have posted). Thus, my first try was cut a little short:

http://shop.tinyrc.com/product.php?productid=16986

It was supposed to read:

Typical meticulous attention to detail associated with Kyosho Autoscales. This is an absolutely beautiful body. I would not, however, recommend it as a regular racer, as the shape of the Ford GT exposes the tires/wheels quite a bit, which are then prone to impacts during a race. This is likely only a good race body for those who are comfortable that they will rarely come into contact with walls or other racers.

If this is not on purpose, it might be worth noting that most databases use 255 as the default limit for varchar (text fields), and anything above that limit is automatically removed/lost when it is stored (it seems to have been cut off at ~252 characters).

Edit: looking back at some of HammerZ's posts, it seems several of his were cut off at 255 characters as well.

interesting....

btw, i ALWAYS type such things in word, to catch spelling errors mostly, than paste in because i've had such things happen many times and i don't have teh patience to redo lost work

I just wrote a review about 5 times longer than it posted.... it didn't tell me of the character limit. *sigh*

I have no idea how many of mine got cut off.

I just got cut off at 194 words. I did it in word. I had just a few words left in the sentence.... :( huge disapointment.... how can we review the products we have if we don't even know how much we can say??

EDIT:

Another cut off at 201.

i've emailed mini-z and i'm sure he'll see this thread when he gets back to work and will resolve the character count issue. :)

I'm sure it'll get fixed, it's just growing pains with a new system. Consider yourself a beta tester. :D Chances are if it is just the 255 character limit (as I'm pretty sure it is at this point), it can just be resized. I've never encountered trouble increasing the size of a field (though this does not hold true for changes to a different data type, i.e. blob), even when a system is in use.

Well, I don't think I could compete with most of this month's entries, but I wouldn't mind seeing my review of the GT40 asc updated (noted earlier in the thread, when it was cutting off at 255 characters):

And the (somewhat belated) winner for November is... Spoon with his review of the Atomic Alloy Motor Pod for F1! Outstandingly done! Spoon, please email shop@ so we can send you your $10 GC! :)

It's almost time to pick a winner for December - everyone please post links to your reviews in this thread so we can start reviewing your reviews and pic another winner! Thanks! :)

That looks fine, thanks!

And congrats to Spoon, that is certainly one of the most informative reviews I've seen on a piece of mini-z hardware...

added a quicky for the epoch ;) since I just bought a few...

http://shop.tinyrc.com/product.php?productid=16265&cat=262&page=1

Any way to get it to link the review into similar products? like if some one made a review on the epoch, it should show up for all the body choices... maybe a check box for [ ] Review pertains to all of this type, or a box for [ ] just this color/style...

Hello Mini-Z,

I sent a couple of emails over the last couple of days about the GC and some other stuff. Just wanted to make sure I didn't get dumped to spam or something.

I am not trying to be a jerk here, but I have sent several emails about the $10 GC and I haven't heard back.

I am glad to give reviews for products that I have used for everyone's benefit. Heck, I think it would be awesome if everyone reviewed even one item. I would probably do it if there were no contest.

But I guess my point is...there is a contest. I am assuming it's worth $10/month to get people to fill the shop with thooughtful reviews of Mini-Z products. The only way it's going to work is if you actually come through with the prize.

If the contest is done, please let us know. I'll still post reviews, but I probably won't work quite as hard.

Spoon, sorry for the delay, things have been extremely busy since the holiday season (and don't seem to be slowing down!) - GC sent! :) To help keep things organized, we'll do a new thread each month to post your entries to; here's March:

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21118

For December-February, should we just forward those entries to this month (I don't think there were any for December or February anyway)? Let me know what you think, and thanks for your patience and understanding! :)

Hey everyone, this post is mostly for a bump.

I am wondering why people aren't jumping at the chance for a $10 GC for a couple of minutes work

It helps the shop, it helps others and it could earn you some free tires for your Z! Review all of those products that you buy.
