I've already talked Fred and Allen, and I think Lamar's got something in the works; but who else would be interested in some 1/10th touring car races? I've already picked out my kit, the Tamiya TA05 kit (http://www2.************.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKSG0&P=ML). I'll be ordering mine pretty soon. Tower sells the kit (unassembled, no electronics but a stock 27T motor) for $159 and that's got free shipping. Here's a link to Tam's factory hop-up list: (lots of CF and blue billet aluminium)
http://www.tamiyausa.com/search.php?q=ta05&offset=2

If it's got stars in the link, replace 'em w/ t a m i y a.

Anyone got any PVC or other material to make a track out of?

Do any of the places you have in mind have AC power?

pHREDD
2005.11.07, 10:21 PM
the rec center has ac power that we can use and a huge parking lot in the back. we dont have pvc pipe but it can be picked up easy and cheap.

I dont have a 1/10 yet but here is a shot of my tricked out mini-t

I have been looking at a HPI 1/10 electric touring and it can be had for $99. about the price of a mini-z. I would get 1 and paly around with it if every one else does.

Ninja, when you got yours my eyes were clouded with zzzzz's :D Now I see the light

I got tired of looking at that green EMAXX body so I did a little upgrade this weekend, Out with the old and in with the new. Since we are gonna get it with the 1/10 electric I wanted to get my EMAXX back up to speed.

pHREDD

I changed everything over to dean plugs on my EMAXX and TC4. Maybe its just me but both seem to have a little more power. I also slow charged my sticks @.2 amps (took about 16 hours each) and the batts on the MAXX came to life.

anybody up for a wheelie poping contest? :D

ChattavegasSE
2005.11.21, 06:23 PM
As long as it's a smooth surface, my Mauler can hold a wheelie until it hits something; provided it doesn't flip over first.

I'm still waiting on some cash for stuff I'm selling before I can buy my kit.

Lamar - what's with the competition level Yok kit? That kinda sled is built for super sexy groomed tracks. I don't know of any really nice parking lots; and I know I'd be real pissed if all that sexy CF got crunched up on the rough pavement.

Shaun - how's that brushless set-up running? I know the FT TC4 loves power, does that deliver? What kind of batteries are you running?

Shaun
2005.11.21, 07:31 PM
The brushless set-up is a dream come true. NO truing the comm or changing brushes every few runs. I have raced on a pretty large track with others running brushed mod motors. The brushless system doesn't disappoint. It's also better on run time. Still able to run fast laps at the end of the race.

I'm using the LRP Sphere ESC with the Novak 5.5 motor.

I'm running IB3800's. These cells seem to be very reliable.

6 cells or 7?

Shaun

6 Cell IB3800

pHREDD
2005.11.21, 08:08 PM
You think a 6t Cobalt with 7 cell GP3700 would keep up with the brushless system?

Shaun
2005.11.21, 08:15 PM
I've never run 7 cell. Not sure how much more power you get from adding a cell.
But even running 6 cells with a 6t would be very fast. Would keep up for sure.

Novak has a prototype brushless motor that one of the sponsored drivers here is running. This thing is amazing! Not sure when it will be released but watch out.

pHREDD
2005.11.21, 08:21 PM
it may go faster than the car could handle....

Shaun
2005.11.21, 08:27 PM
Mod racing does add a lot more stress on parts than stock or 19T.
My TC4 has held up well with the brushless system. Hitting walls at such high speeds can really do damage.

pHREDD
2005.11.21, 08:38 PM
Why didnt you go with the GTB speed control? From what I been reading its one of the best...

Shaun
2005.11.22, 10:49 AM
When I bought my electronics the GTB wasn't released yet. Yes the GTB is a great ESC, it has more user profiles than the LRP. The GTB is also more efficient when using brushed motors. It alo comes with a cooling fan. I had to add my own fan for the LRP.

But LRP has a new brushed/brushless ESC coming out. The Competition Sphere.
Should be really nice.

pHREDD
2005.11.22, 11:11 AM
Cool...I am looking at buying one and thought you might know that the LRP was better. Thanks for the info. If I get one I do want it to do both brushed and brushless

Shaun
2005.11.22, 11:31 AM
I know the new LRP ESC has a new feature that allows you to switch between brushed and brushless motors without having to change settings on the ESC. I believe you have to change modes in the GTB to change motors. Not a big deal, but just one of the differences.

Racing outdoors for 1/10th TC around here has pretty much stopped for the winter months. Looks like I'll be running Z's.

atlRC - has got his CORE lap counting system up and running. He says it works great. Very reliable system. We will be having our first race with the CORE system on Dec 11th. Can't wait to try it out! He does want to come up for some races in Chattanooga. Once we run some races on the CORE system, we'll plan a Saturday to have a big GTG at the rec center.
