2/12 sounds good. I'll see you there around 11am as usual. If that's okay.

Patrick - Has the track been vacuumed since we started racing? I'm noticing more track dust on my car. Maybe a vac job and good wiping down with a damp towel will help with the dust and improve traction?

Yeah, 11:00 is cool!

I have swept and vacuumed the track every time before we've raced. I bet the extra dust may be related to the "roughening" up of the turn that I was experimenting with. I've already "roughened" up some more of the track. I've been running a few timed runs and have been turning pretty consistent high 4 sec and low 5 sec laps (which is better than my avg has been). But I've also changed tires, so I'm not sure if the "roughening" is helping that much or not. My feeling is that it is. I'll only "roughen" a part of the track, and let everyone else give me their feedback next race.

I forgot about the roughing up of that corner. That's where the dust came from for sure. Have you done anything with the turn following the straightaway?

What tires have you switched to? Have you tried the 3Racing motor yet?

I've also roughened up the first turn at the end of the back straight. I'm still not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm thinking it does a little.

I've been practicing and tuning the car a bit. I just had a 5 minute, 60 lap run! Wooo hooo! I made a few changes to the car, one of which made a big difference! I changed the read T-plate to the lightest one. This made a noticeable improvement in negotiating the turns! The car seems to transition much quicker. I also rebuilt (cleaned, sanded and re-lubed) the diff and I'm still using one weight in the front of the car. I used traction compound on all the tires too. I'm using Atomic 10 deg grooved tires in the rear and I-Waver 10's in the front. I haven't tried the new motor yet.

Prior to the 60 lap run, I turned a 4.44 sec lap! So bring it on Shaun!!! I'll be ready for you next race! You can't win em all you know! ;)

Here's the results from my run: 60 Laps (http://www.atlrcmotorsports.com/amrcr-results/patrick 60 laps.htm)

Lookin' good Patrick!! I like that your fastest lap was your next to last lap! We should have some close racing on Sunday. You almost had 61 laps. There were a few laps where you lost time, about a total of 2 seconds. That would be right about 61 laps! What kind of traction compound did you use? Maybe we could each run a 5:00 solo run as a pre-qualifier race? Then race 3 qualifiers with starting positions based on the solo run. Just a thought.

Hey, I can sure try to win them all!! :)

I'm sure you will my friend!

Traction compound was Paragon FXII. I'd like to get some of the non-smelling stuff. Yeah we could try a solo run... well gotta run, gotta practice some more! ;)

Once again had a great time. Track is getting faster and faster. 58 laps last time with a fast lap around 4.6 sec, this time 66 laps and a fast lap of 4.1 sec with the potential for nearly 70 laps! WOW! What a difference more traction makes! Keep us posted on any layout changes Patrick. See you next time.

Andy - Do you plan on getting a MR-02? If so, you might want to put your money towards the MR-02 and just wait on fixing the MR-01. If you plan to keep running your MR-01 you might want to get the GPM Alloy Servo Gears. The plastic gears cost around $5 for a set, and they will just keep breaking. I know the alloy gears are more money..... about $30

If you can manage to put a few bucks together I'll sell you the GPM Alloy Servo Gears that I have for $15. Then you won't have to worry about breaking another servo gear.

Thatís a cool looking track, and with the lighter color you can see the dark painted cars on it. Needs sponsor banners though. I made a test batch of sponsor stickers for my RCP. They held up nice but do wear out after a few months.

Iím considering making curbing for my track. What did you use for the grass and how did you make your curbing? Could you post a close-up shot of it?

I thought of using a short Astroturf for the grass, but suspect itíd be too tall anyway for road cars. Another option in contention is green felt. The only practical thing I can think of for the curbing is that cork railroad bed strip, but itíd take a fair amount of trimming and gluing to bend it into such a tight curve.

Thanks! I already got a copy of your sponsor banners, very nice! Thanks! I just haven't had them printed yet.

The grass is a particular kind of carpet I found at a carpet store after much searching... but, I have come to the conclusion that it is too thick for the cars (even though it is very thin for carpet). I had it lining the entire track, but too many cars would get stuck on it, so I removed it (I left the carpet behind the rumble strips). I'm looking at replacing it with something thinner (almost like the thickness of felt).

The rumble strips were made from EVA foam from a craft store. It took me a long time to figure out how to make them! I had to build a cutting jig for my scroll saw, take multiple saw passes at each strip, the glue them down while bending them to get the curve. They turned out very nice, but they are not easy to create and take a lot of time. I think if you tried to use cork road bed material (for trains), it would get torn up pretty easily.

Here's a sneaky tip you might want to try if you are desperate to run your MR01... The Main Servo gears that break in an MR01 can be re-used in an MR02 with no ill effects. The tooth that usually breaks when in the MR01 is in an un-used area of the gear when it comes to the MR02. So you can swap the unbroken gear from the MR02 into your MR01, and use the broken gear in the MR02. (I'm not sure if anyone else knows this or not) :o

Little trick of the trade...

I guess it depends on what part of the gear breaks. If the teeth get broken off it really doesn't work at all in either car.

I had to build a cutting jig for my scroll saw, take multiple saw passes at each strip, the glue them down while bending them to get the curve.

Oooh, that sounds like a bit of work with tools I donít have. Those track elements look fantastic though.

Thickness is a problem I was concerned about. Weíve been using Losi Corner Dots and while they do redefine parts of the track, they are also just thick enough to high-center on. They also get kicked out of place pretty easily.

Iím afraid even the railroad cork may be too thick. My wife was making decorations over Christmas using thin (around 2-3mm) sheets of craft foam. It got me thinking, just cut one whole section of green foam and paint the red/white curbing along the edge.

My main objective is visibility and to only give the car a slight bump. A flat sheet of foam wouldnít be as pretty but it might do the job. But as an accuracy nut I want it to look right too, and what youíve got has an authentic race look to it.

That banner group image I posted was just for show, theyíre shrunk and compressed. I have uncompressed, high resolution images of the banners in PSD format. Theyíre also in CMYK mode for accurate printing. I can put them up for download if youíd like them.

I havenít printed any more for my RCP just because my lousy Epson Photo 925 is out of ink and I refuse to put another penny in it. As soon as I get another printer (and a bunch of time) Iíll continue the project.

I believe the craft foam you are talking about is the EVA foam I mentioned. I've thought about your idea as well (with the craft foam). The only drawbacks are 1) you may have a rough edge (the cut edge) that may effect the path of the cars (car bumps up and doesn't stay on the intended path) and 2) I have experimented with many many different kinds of paint, and none seam to adhere as well as I would like. Let me know if you come up with any good alternative to making rumble strips... I'll post if I come up with a better (easier) solution as well.

I'd love to get of CMYK copy of the sponser banners! Thanks!

Patrick - You plan on having the next race on 2/26?

Remember how my car was really loose with the GPM Radials, then I put those slicks on and it helped a ton. I tried those same slicks on my RCP track and my car was super loose, so I switched back over to the GPM Radials. The car was stuck to the track. Just thought that was kinda funny. Guess I'll keep my radials for RCP and slicks for your track. ;)

Also, I was wondering if anyone uses Rayovac IC3 AAA batteries? I'll be able to get my hands on about 20 4-packs of AAA for real cheap (under$4) in a week or so. I have a set but my charger has problems charging them fully. They will fully charge in the Rayovac IC3 charger in only 15 minutes.

Yes, 4 batteries for $5. You want some?

I'll sell you those POWEREX 800mah AAA batteries I let you run Sunday for $5.
That's 8 batteries for $5. Let me know.

Thanks AltRC, with any luck Iíll have some time off work soon and can experiment with the EVA foam.

I got the sponsor wall banners collected into a WinRAR file. Clean and hi-res. The link is in the RCP forum:

These are the print ready TIF files already scaled for RCP walls. I have the higher resolution originals if you need them. Theyíre in PSD format so the logo is separate from the background.
