Ever wondered what that 575 GTC with a question mark in the new header is? Well, the answer is - it could be you car - if you win our newest contest! Your challenge is to create the coolest Mini-ZRacer.com-themed body, starting from a blank White Body (enhanced AutoScales are not eligible). The body must have the MZR logo or "mini-zracer.com" somewhere on it, and we suggest using MZR colors (red, white, black, silver/grey), but this is not mandatory. To help you out, we have MZR decals, and now stickers, available for purchase in the shop:

http://shop.tinyrc.com/home.php?cat=280

as well as a huge range of White bodies:

http://shop.tinyrc.com/home.php?cat=276

The deadline for this contest is April 30th, 2006. Submissions will be via the MZR Gallery, and we will post more details soon, just wanted to give a heads up so you can get your hands on some White Bodies and start thinking about your designs etc. In addition to the submitted picture, we ask that you take a few build-up photos, e.g. masking and first coats, etc., in order to prove ownership. You must paint your own body, bodies painted by someone else are not eligible.

Please post questions to this thread - can't wait to see what you guys come up with! :)

Just one question, this is just the Kyosho white body sets and not the Atomic VDS body right? Or is the Atomic VDS body allowed? I have a few white bodies on hand just need to pick one to do up.

already putting some designs to paper :)

mini-z
2006.03.26, 06:27 PM
I would discourage VDS bodies since they're not as distinctly "Mini-Z"-ish so wouldn't make a very good header graphic, as they could be mistaken for a larger scale RC. :)

I understand, just wanted to get that clear as I am sure someone would have wondered about that.

Just placed another order, even though I have one that still needs to clear.

anyone have idea on what they want to do yet? i'm tossing around my idea this weekend... i have to sketch it out on the car to see if it's possible given my skills with rattle cans

arch2b

another clarification.... we don't have to start with a white body do we? what i have in mind will be significantly easier if i start with a solid color background.

I am sticking to the rattle cans myself, though I may be using a different brand of paint. Right now I am waiting for a package to come in. I am also tossing around ideas for a few different bodies (all unpainted ones). Trying to play Chip Foose, with a few layouts.

we don't have to start with a white body do we?

I'll have to give you credit for that Mustang you did, it has all the right colors. It was also a total repaint, and on a body you can get unpainted as well.

Trying to play Chip Foose, with a few layouts.Cool! I'm looking forward to seeing your layouts. Considering Chip Foose is a master with an airbrush, I'm interested in your technique, with rattle cans, to create a like painting scheme. :D

Just trying to have a little fun with it, I am no Chip Foose by a longshot. Just trying to keep the simple three color layout, maybe four if I use white in the design. I may have to use the white, so it would not look like "The A Team" van.

i had forgotten about the mustang.... yeah, it was a repaint over silver. came out nicely :p

Well I have my sketch done, although I won't give any hints as to what it will be. I will say that I have decided to not go with the Black, red silver theme as there are just to many cars that are these colors. I'm going for something unique.

arch2b
2006.04.01, 02:19 PM
unique is good :)

i just bought the paint, tape and other junk today to work on my car. now i just need to buy the wb ;)

It is a good idea to do something different (Hey, the dare to be different contest! sounds good to me). I got my order in and made a trip to the local wally world for the paint. As I said before, this time I will try something different. The paint is the Dupla Color from the auto body section. I just hope the solvents are not too strong for the base plastic. I am using an automotive grey primer under it.

arch2b
2006.04.01, 05:36 PM
i just made my shop order :p 4 days and i get to start work. i'm going to take my time with this one though. i normally knock them out in 1 dat but this one may take atleast a week so i don't mess it up.

HammerZ
2006.04.01, 05:46 PM
Here's the only teaser I have so far, a coat of primer and a sheet of decals. I may have to add the white for more contrast in the design.

Come up to the lab, and see what's on the slab. Muhaa,ha.

Dupli-Color list.
Nissan Cherry Red Pearl M #88-00570
Charcoal Metallic #DSGM318W
Nighthawk Black Pearl #E8800982W
And a can of clearcoat, all the 5oz cans.

arch2b
2006.04.02, 07:49 PM
i'm sure that will be best viewed under natural sunlight :)

so how did that paint behave on the plastic?

hope i can have something to show next weekend

HammerZ
2006.04.02, 08:02 PM
The first coats were rough. I had to color sand the open areas and apply another coat to even it out. I used the red as a base. I had to seal it with a clear, as the red pigment acted like it was a dye. The black and charcoal colors are just two thin coats for the color. I layed a few clear coats over the whole thing. It is still tacky as I type this. I may give it a few days to set before I start the decals and detail it out. As a fact this stuff smells very strong next to the Tamiya paints for sure, I just hope it would be like a crash helmet when it sets up.

That Dupla Color paint looked good maby ill have to get some. :D

HammerZ
2006.04.03, 05:35 PM
If you go that route, be sure to paint outside. The fumes are that strong.

That Nighthawk Black that I listed above isn't a real black, you turn it into the light it has a hint of blue to it. The can cap looked black under the lights, but what came out has blue to it. It look's good with the MZR decals on it. Here's some shots with the waterslide decals used, and on my MA01 AWD chassis. AWD Vits RS?

It's my first Vits body, it is a neat little car. Trying to do something different was the idea. I think it look's too much like a company car though (almost like getting one of those New Beetles and doing a "Geek Squad" car out of it), look forward to seeing the other entries for this.

Tamyia makes a Pearl White laquer in rattle cans (#TS45 Pearl White), if that helps. ;)

I have used the pearl white, I recommend using a plain white as a base coat with it. That color is translucent, it shows whats under it very well. I painted a black Microsizer body with it and it came off looking greyish. That's with a few thin coats of white primer as a base to try and cover the black. That and the Mini Z body both are FD's, just the Mini Z body started off white. The Mini Z body is brighter with the same pearl white paint.

Go ahead and do it, I cannot even afford a white body right now lol... I coulda got my dad to do it but that would break the rules ;).

The concept was just the red Z... wth MZR everywere the other logos were just on the car already, instead of those logos I might have shrunk and put the Mini-Z Racer logo on it some were, in black/white or maybe the gold one... and the monster on it some were.. and in the red area with the wrist comming out of the fenders... I would have put the Tiny RC hand/car logo with TINY RC on it..

The white area, could be white, or silver.. or I had also invisioned it being a silver-gray at the bottom and fade to white toward the top of the car... or even black since the forum page is black.

Some one posted a marborol mclaren link some were and that sort of inspired/altered my idea into that concept i posted...

arch2b
2006.04.28, 02:28 PM
the beauty of that idea is it's simplicty. the paint would only take an hour or so and the rest is sticker/decals. i actually like the red/white better than say silver or black. a nice grey fade from the bottom up could be nice
