Has anyone tried the Atomic AR181 rear shock? Can I use this without a DPS? Also does anyone know if this is oil filled?

thanks,

Hi Z_408,

it is *not* oil filled, but you'd rather like to use it with the special ATM grease. It's an *excellent* additional damper which keeps the rear of your car very stable and "calm". If you mount it with AR-183 and AR-052 it should work without DPS, but why ? The combination of DPS *and* the rear shock makes the difference ...

Cheers,

Jo

I am just trying to keep everything as simple as possible. Can I just replace this with the stock shock?

You have to test a little with the different plastic shock stays from the MR-02 RTR kit, but in general I don't see, why you should't be able to mount it. Don't forget - if you want to use ist as a damper you have to use the ATM grease OIL005 or OIL006, otherwise it's not better than the standard shock from the RTR kit ...

Another suggestion - why don't you take from 3racing the KZ-02 - an excellent damper ?

Would you recommend this over the Kyosho oil damper?

As I haven't used the Kyo oil damper so far I cannot tell, but the 3r damper does what it's supposed to do - it dampens quite well.
If you're asking for a ranking on carpet I'd recommend as follows:

1. DPS System + additional oil/grease damper
2. DPS System
3. Oil/grease damper

Hope that helps. If you'll find the DPS systems too expensive - the GPM fibre plate-based or 3r damper is still sufficient ...

Are you using RM or MM ?

Hope that helps.

Jo
