View Full Version : Points scale discussion

We need to decide on the points scale to use for our races so I can post current points standings.

Here is what I have found so far:

The Washington DC club uses this:

Points system:
1st Place = 10 Points
2nd Place = 8 Points
3rd Place = 6 Points
4th Place = 5 Points
5th Place = 4 Points
6th Place = 3 Points
7th Place = 2 Points
8+ Places = 1 Point

Top Qualifier for each race gets an additional point for that race.

The GA Championship series (10th scale) used this points system last year:

1st Place: 100pts
2nd Place: 99pts
3rd Place: 98pts
4th Place: 97pts, and so on in the same 1 point intervals.

The Top Qualifier for each class will be given 1 bonus point.

Another possibility would be to base our system on a 20 point scale like we talked about at our last race. It could look something like this:

1st Place: 20 pts
2nd Place: 18 pts
3rd Place: 16 pts
4th Place: 15, and so on in 1 point intervals.

Top Qualifier in each class would get an additional 1 point bonus.

Please let me know what you think. I think I like the 20 point system. I set the gaps between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to 2 points. I don't believe we want the spread between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to be too much since we do not have that many races. If it were more than a few points, it might be difficult for another driver to catch the next driver ahead of them (I'm not actually sure if this is a good reason or not). Anyway, notice that the GA Championship series had no point gaps between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Please post your opinions then we will collectively decide.

No comments? Going once... going twice....

If none, I'll post the points tonight using the 20 points system.

The 20 points system sounds good to me .

I kind of like the 10 point system. But anything after eighth should get zero points just to be mean.
