just to get started like in the other chassi forums.

here's my MR01 with bearings, xspeed, hard suspension plate, WFC ball diff, and green kyosho springs up front. +2N and +0W currently to go with the iwaver CLK DTM body I had. It's a later version of the MR01 with reverse.

It does not flip even when I intentionally tried to flip it on my driveway.

I had pretty good sucess with my 01 at the Atlanta Mini Z race event last Saturday; considering I drove it more Saturday than all the years I've had it. :p I'll take some pics of it in a little bit.

On my MR01 I have:
Atomic alloy nose mount
Kyosho 3* camber nylon knuckles
N-tegy MR02 springs over the knuckles
No stock front sway bar
Kyosho clear blue chassis
Kyosho ball diff
Kyosho roll shock set
Kyosho stock plastic H-plate

For some reason, the stock plastic H-plate handles the best for me. :D

Gasman was just chasing me around his home track last night with his MR01 with 3004s... I have 3010s in my MR02 now and it was still hard to fend him off, classic tortise and hare race.

He's running very worn GPM 8s all the way around, medium carbon plate, 2 degree knuckles, and an MR01 Kyosho diff... and that car runs like it's on fire !

I would like to see a comeback, somehow... HFAY could have an event, or maybe PN could have an Old School class at their next regional ? 01 chassis, 3004 fets, RM mount only ? Maybe even limit it to first release bodies as well ?

My old lineup, all carpet setups...

Here's some old and new shots of my F40. The new chassis is clear with red screws. I also installed a black servo case and MR01F rear pod, using a Kyosho MR02 ball diff.

Agreed - I've been pushing for some sort of "classics" class where bodies w/b restricted to say 1990 and earlier as well. :)

imxlr8ed, are you using a GPM damper on your 01s? Are you using a GPM motor mount? Also, what diffs are you using?

imxlr8ed
2007.02.25, 07:31 PM
Those cars are long gone... all of them evolved into MR02s. I was running the GPM dampeners with the GPM mounts, I still have 1 or 2 of them hiding out in my gear somewhere. We use to run wides all the way around and full oil dampeners with 0.040 thick lexan plates on our old carpet track, when we went to RCP... this setup didn't work so well, the rebound on those shocks wasn't quick enough. I still have some of the shocks, but I made the majority of them into main shocks for MR02s.

Also, the purple one is an old Topcad oil dampener, that was the first one I ever bought. I used to run just regular roll shock on that car too.

It doesnt have a middle shock as the RM mount cant hold the middle shock. Very soft in the rear so Ill have to look at the dampers.

Man this thread brings back good memories of my first Z back in the day... I had a bone stock red 911 gt3, and could only afford bearings and an xspeed. I used to dream of Kyosho's mr01 they used in their ads with all the original kyosho hop ups

who would of thought that several years later, they'd have an mr02, an AWD and cars like the Sinister and Pro-Z!

Just go to 'the bay' and type in 'mini-z lancer' under toys&hobbies.
there are a bunch. some are copies, but they work fine. The copies never come with wheels or a dummy chassis.

Does anybody know if http://microrcracing.tripod.com/prod05.htm is still in buisness? They list a few of the old MR01's as being in stock and you can even click on the PayPal buy it now icon. I just question if you can actually get the item, or if this is an outdated web site no longer in buisness. I just e-mailed to theme, so my guess is we'll see if they respond and what their answer is. I just want to know if anybody else knows about theme.

Nice collection of MR01's! Do they all still race?

Thanks marc, the suby and the lambo only get run alone on my mini96 at home, but all the rest are ready to go and get raced occasionally. The CLK, lancer and nsx get the most track time, in that order. They're all updated with PCB's that have brakes. The CLK has 3010's, the Lambo and NSX 4562's, and 3004's on the rest. (not for long though!!)

You can still get 01 parts, you just gotta look for them_ (see, only one 'E' ;-).
but the white altezza is a rare find. I had the yellow too. I beat the piss out of it and gave it to a friend. It can take a beating. I used to run outside on concrete and blacktop, boy does that shorten the life of parts!

that microrc site brings back some memories!! It looks pretty old, ignored and janky, but if he does have some of those in stock, then cool.
You might be better off with an 015 just 'cuz of the 01's servo gears issues.
if not then get some delrin servo gears first thing.

No, they are two different chassis. Some settings you can, like soft or hard springs in the front or rear will effect it. The MR01 is a very different species than the MR02. It's closest relative is the MR15, and even the MR15's suspension is different. The MR01 has a bar that links the two front springs together, where as the MR15 and MR02 have independent front suspensions. All three share similar rear suspensions though.
It all comes down to tires, springs, and H-plates really. If somebody else want's to correct me please go ahead.

EXCALABUR!!!, sorry couldn't resist.

If you are itching to run that. I would invest in an MR01F rear mount and use an MR02 diff. Mostly to help keep the original parts intact. The 01F setup really helps dial in these cars well. You may also be tempted to try out that KT-2 transmitter, I know I got alot of usage out of mine.

marc
2007.12.23, 11:11 AM
Hi there and thank's for the compliments! I won't be racing THIS one, but I might be getting another one that is slightly used. The slightly used one will be part of a trade and will already come with a bunch of hop-up parts. I'm keeping this Altezza as is and it will remain a shelf queen. These cars are much to rare to risk damage on the track. Which is why I'm after the second one! What's different about the MR01F hammer? Can you post pictures of it comparing it to normal MR01? I'd appreciate it, thanks!

marc
2007.12.23, 12:47 PM
Well, it is afirmative I'm getting a second white Toyota Altezza MR01 WITH hop-ups. So, I can keep this first one minty-fresh and race the not so minty-fresh one! That's how you collect Mini-Z's. Keep one shelf queen, and have a second matching one for the track!

stuZ

very nice altezza! i would not drive that around.
agreed, such a rare body should be shelved.
good idea getting a beater body.

as far as parts, the kyosho knuckles are a must (I like the black 1 degree, but personal prefs prevail), as well as delrin servo gears,
the kyosho toe-in bars help, and yes, definitely a ball diff. as well as an h-plate set too. On some cars I run the Kyosho roll-shocks and top shock and run a softer h-plate, on other cars I just run a stiffer h-plate without the shocks. they both work great, just feel a bit different.
It also depends on whether or not the top shock will fit under your body.
the pn 01 motor mount lowers your motor, allowing it to not hit the underside of your of some bodies (NSX, Countach, etc.) so that's good for rear suspension.
bearings, of course, and tires are up to you. (I like 30' f., 20' r. or 40' f., 30' r.
less flipping, more sliding, but again personal preferences prevail)

marc
2007.12.23, 09:07 PM
Again, that's why I'm getting the second one that's not so minty. What colors does the pn 01 motor mount come in? I was thinking of going clear and all silver alloy.

The stock and the first set of alu rims look better... Man I'm jealous... I would love one of those old mr01 readysets, I'd just play with it, and put it back in the box everytime :D

marc
2007.12.23, 10:09 PM
Thank's wes, but the first set of rims are Kyosho's plastic rims, not aluminum. I put those back on as their offset is better and suits the car more. The Iwaver's front wheels were too far in for me. I like my wheels right up close to the fender. I just wanted to see how these wheels looked on the car, it's fun to play with a bunch of wheels and different styles. But in all honesty, on this white classic Altezza, I think these chromed five star's from Kyosho look the best.

HammerZ

What's different about the MR01F hammer?

The MR01F basicly has the same rear mount as the MR02 RM car's do. The only difference is the parts included in the parts pack. I don't remember if it has the H plate but it has the chassis standoff for the MR01 chassis. and a low shock mount plate. If anything it drops the motor down about 3 mm lower for better handling. That 3mm don't sound like much, but you compare before and after on a track it's like night and day. Wish I had a standard MR01 to take a picture next to my F 40 .An original MR01 that I upgraded to the MR01F spec. Just remember that the MR01F uses the MR02 diff. I have to say that as the posts I seen about "now my old diff don't fit with this new part".

Someone else mentioned roll shocks. Years ago I tried a set of those, about the only thing they are good at is breaking the H plates. Not worth the wasted money and added weight to me.

i tried roll shocks on my mr01 before and it didn't do much of helping the handling as well. top shock would be better for stopping the rear from hopping.

marc
2007.12.24, 11:04 AM
So if I had an extra MR02 RM motor mount, what else would I need to adapt it to the MR01? Obviously the H-plates are different, even different from MR15 to MR02. Those two look the same, but the MR15 is narrower on the chassis side.
I beleive this next Altezza I'm getting has GPM upgrades. But if those shocks dont' work, how about the normal MR02 shocks and how would I adapt that to MR01?

marc
2007.12.24, 11:48 AM
Here's a pic of my two current Altezza's. The MR01 on the left, and the MR15 on the right. The MR15 I'll definetly race as it's more available than the white MR01. The MR15 you've seen in the MR15 threads and it works well. Plus I have the blue in AutoScale form as well so not worried about bruising this body. Nice pair huh?

MR-015 & MR-02 H-plate's are the same, on both ends.

marc
2007.12.24, 03:54 PM
Really, I've had some MR02 H-plates not fit on the MR15. Maybe it's who makes theme or something. I've even tride trimming on the round part and couldn't get it to fit properly, it would cause the rear to be slightly off. So all I really need is an extra MR02 RM and MR15 H-plate? What about mounting the center shock?

marc
2007.12.24, 04:58 PM
Can you use the Kyosho hop-up springs from the MR02 on the MR01? Or does the MR01 require a different diameter?

HammerZ
2007.12.24, 09:44 PM
The MR01 springs are slimmer and taller than the MR02-015 springs are. If you want it to fit the pockets on the stablizer bar, the MR02-015 springs are too fat. You can use them if you remove the stablizer bar and just put them on the knuckles. That can stress the ends of the top plate though, with the springs pushing up on the ends that the kingpins are at. Also to keep them from grabing the knuckles, I have used 2mm washers to support them. Ironicly, the AWD springs are even fater and shorter than the MR02-015 springs are. Seems to be a pattern here.

Third party parts can have variations. Look at the wheels as an example. I have a set of Iwaver wheels that the bearings will just fall right out of. And some other make wheels that the bearings wedge in so tightly that you can't remove them without destroying the bearings. H plates can be the same deal.

marc

So basically it's best to find original MR01 springs, okay, thanks!

Hi all.
I'm not sure if this really counts as I don't have it anymore, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
This is my lancer that I bought way back when mini z's first came out.Unfortunately it seemed so expensive at the time, and spares seemed scarce, that I hardly used it and sold it after only a few months of having it.Wish I still had it know of course. At the time I never thought I would really get into this scale of cars. Also, finding somewhere suitable for driving it was a challenge. If only I had known about anti fatigue mats back then!
Anyway here she is.Completely standard, even the tyres.

Those are AVM Quintech's.

Know where I can get a set? Would love those on my Altezza, they'd look HOT! Assuming of coarse, the offset is correct for Altezza.

Really like the Vitz. You must have some parts box!!!

Picked this up off ebay the other day.Kind of nostalgic to have an MR01 again after about 5 years. And I love the F40 body shell.
Actually fairly surprised at how well it runs compared to my MR02 and MR015's.Bit bouncy, but fun.

Got this used, bone-stock, in 2002. Added Kyosho bearing set, GPM motor mount, GPM diff and axle nuts, Gpm spring and H-plate set. Oh, and stock Audi wheels and tires. Play with it mostly, never raced them.

I have always loved the F40 body for the MR01. Here's a roof shot of mine after it slid down the street for about 150 feet after turning over. I ground up some pencil lead to rub into the battle scars so it would show up in the picture.

Here's my earlier post with the same car. Those scrapes don't show in those pictures, but they are there.

It look's like my front wheel's could use a spacer to bring theme closer to the fenders, what do you think? Rear's are perfect!

marc

Can a bad differential cause drag and make the car slow? My MR01 here seems rediculously slow even with the best of batteries. It does not seem like the electronics are at fault. Unfortunetly, I dont' have another ball diff or stock diff to try.

There, I slammed this puppy! I figured, since I wasn't driving this one anyway, might as well make it look as good as possible. I removed the rear spacer, and put some spacer's up front. For the front, I simply used the front wheel plastic bushing's which worked great! Car probably won't drive very well this way, but sure look's tough sitting there! What you think? With these sweet Tagu's, this look's much better.

marc
2008.04.28, 10:47 PM
Thank's Ringer, it's actually the same chassis, just two different bodies. PFCParts helped me order the rim's directly from Tagu them selves. Tagu's ordering site is called Wild-ZRacing. I plan on getting a few more Tagu's sometime soon. They have a set that's perfect for the Countach, and a set that'll really look good on the BMW M3 GTR body.

I tried my banner car on the AWD for the contest pictures. I have not really run it much. Just remove that plastic bumper off the back to fit it. Just the banner pic it was on an ASC chassis for that one.

The Altezza look's good in those shots, at least for a shelf queen.

Thank's Faze, I raised it a bit more to stock. Funny though, the rear doesn't look as good raised as it does lowered. But if I were to drive it, it would have to be back to stock hight. Sadly, this is my slow MR01 and I dont' know why it's so slow. Only thing I can think of is bad differential causing drag. I don't have another diff to try.

went to some local hobby shops and got some brand new mr01 parts (really hard to find), the mr01 itself was donated by a frd, didn't use much of the car though, just the servo and steering stuff.

restored as shelf queen, i even took the pcb away for something else.

hope everyone likes it. :D

My first mini-z bought back in '05, this was a spur of the moment buy- went into LHS for parts for my RC18T-saw the only kyosho mini-z readyset=

nothing fancy , orginal body less the lens cover for headlamps:mad:, bearings,tires,x-speed mtr. notice the KT-2 tx:)..cool thing about this ol'skol tx is the dual rate adjust at the grip:)
I have been careful with this model- but it is still sort of considered a daliy driver.

I've had a lot of fun tinkering with my Ready-Set.

I purchased it with the F-40 body and run mostly with the Corvette body. The Jota I just bought, never have tried it to the chassis yet.

Everything is Kyosho on the chassis except for the wheelset and I still have all the original parts except for the box and original instructions that show the same radio it came with, which I would like to find a copy of. I don't believe there is one here in the .pdf collection.

I have been running on the back of a large area rug but thinking of changing to a sheet of rolled rubber roofing membrane that I can roll out.
