Next to come, a set of red GPM battery clips, and red GPM rear shock. Oh, and of coarse I need a red GPM motor gear.

I can tell you that you like to look at your cars as much you like to drive them...your chassis look really good.

As it looks like you need a new HM mount and Im guessing your not going to get a blue one...you could still get a blue one and then use this stuff

http://www.jestcoproducts.com/buffing_compounds2.html

Scroll down...looks like they have some anodize remove that works very well
For examples of it...read this:

http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/articles/polishing/

You could probably buff the larger surface areas to a shine or find a local body shop that could sand blast it with some REALLy fine sand to bring out that high shine alloy. Id probably just buff as you dont want the sand blast to accidentally throw off the finely machined tolerances.

edit: Or you could try to find a local anodizer to match the red your looking for.

Just a thought and a tip.

Sorry to go off topic with the first reply. :)

Not a problem and that's exactly what I was thinking about doing. And your right, I enjoy looking at theme as much as driving theme. I like to take one out, put it on the coffee table while watching tv and look at it from time to time.
I was thinking about getting a silver Atomic motor mount, and having my local machinest anodyze it to match.
But right now, I'm working on parts for my Micro-T so I can't afford any Mini-Z stuff at the moment. Just ordered a bunch of Hot-Racing alloy for the tiny truck.
Thanks for the links, I'll have a look at'em.

What's with the tape?

-Byebye

marc
2007.03.04, 01:57 PM
The tape is used to keep the cap tight and the motor from popping off. Without the tape, the motor would pop out enough to stop the car. So, until I have a better motor mount, the tape stays. I don't like the way it looks, but it works and keeps me running.

So you must not have all the spacers or it's just broken I assume.

Still a nice bunch of red parts.:)

Hey, it's whatever came with the car! I didn't change a thing, but I'll look into that possiblity. They could have put the wrong one in. Thanks, it is a nice bunch of "read" parts, I agree. ;)

liquid rc has the MR01 motor mounts in stock...comes with all the spacers.

What motor is it? My atomic stock never fit in my RM.

marc
2007.03.04, 02:29 PM
It's a stock motor at the moment. But I plan on getting Atomic's "red" Chilly motor when it's available.

If it was me, I would use a few silver parts to help show off the red parts better. I did up my gen one Xmods that way. Red for the inside parts (diff holders) and silver outside (control arms) to catch parts of the red. I think it's better than everything red. You have a good start with the silver wheels and red nuts, just continue that inside.

I will go through my pictres and may post mine up soon, I don't have the alloy parts on mine yet.

marc
2007.03.04, 05:45 PM
I like it the way it is thank you. That's what the clear chassis is for is to brake up the red. Imagine if it was the clear red chassis and all red. Actually, that's what I want to eventually do for a 360GTC MR02 chassis.
But hopefully I can get my hands on a red HM alloy motor mount.

Marc, I have a question.

Your running 4 wides. What is your off set in the front and rear?

I think I know the answer already. Compared to the MR02 the front axle spacing is 2.5 mm shorter right? So are you running zero front and back?

I just want to make sure, cuz I have some ideas.

marc
2007.03.05, 10:06 AM
Hello. The wheels are 0 offset all around. Front's are narrow, and rear's are wide. The rims are from TopCad and they were my very first alloy wheels purchased ages ago. The tires are GPM and work very well. The front's do look a tad wider than normal narrows, but I think they are still narrow up front. Either way, 0 offset all around.
So what's your ideas?

Im yet to figure out how to tell what offsets are when you get them in RTRs or chasis sets :D They are the wheels off of my xanavi 350, if that helps at all.

As for your second post, Im prepping a gt3 body to be run on my new AWD. I really like the short wheel base on the AWD, but the 86mm 015 is a blast to drive.

They are very similar to the 934 wheels. They are the wheels that come with the GT3R body. I found them on the Kyosho America site and ordered 2 sets. I also have a set of the white and silver ones that come with the GT3RS body.

The main reason I got them was so that I could run them on the 934 with normal tires instead of the those super hard classic tires.

I actually switched from my original jagr porsche over to this one last week. The wider set up makes it a little more stable, but it still has great agility. The rear wheels are a little bigger diameter than other wheels too, which IMO (maybe in my head :P) makes the car a little faster.

You have to buy a white body shell

AND, Yes thoses cars are painted, with Spray Tamiya Paint + Stickers + Spray Tamiya Clear Coated

The Stickers came from CP MINI RACEWAY ( For 2003 and 2002 schemes ) :::

The decals scales is 1/24 and they fit well...a bit of fittng is necessary sometime because the car scale is 1/25 but they still fit well most of the time.

You can also find more recent schemes on ebay, look for that seller name : canascar60, He got alot of recent cars decals, I have a 2007 DODGE #9 Kacey Kahne in preparation......coming soon here :D

Hello there. For the Toyota Altezza MR15, would a + .5 offset wheel work? I was looking at the 3Racing silver/blue wheels and it seems the only available ones are .5 offset. Does anybody know if these will work fine on the Altezza? I know in stock it's 0 offset, but really, how much different is + .5?

marc
2007.12.01, 03:21 PM
Here's my newest MR15, the Toyota Altezza. Once again I opted to go all the way with Kyosho. Things still to come is Xspeed motor and differential. I'm quite happy with the way this turned out, it run's well, but if you don't have the transmitter's antanna fully extended, the car will speed off on it's own. I don't know why it does that.
The fiberglas H-plates are nice, but can be a little tricky to tell which ones the soft, medium and hard. I think I've chosen the medium one. I say it's difficult to choose because it's not as obvious as with the carbon-fiber versions.
The alloy motor mount is superbly machined, but a little tricky to figure out the spacing to get it to mesh right, and to keep the cap locked on tight. One other upgrade not done yet are the knuckels, would like to find a blue similar to the motor mount if possible, if not I'll just use the same I did on my Kyosho-spech MR02.

Should be under the Mr02 threads I think. Unfortunetly, I traded that one a while back, and I've recently sold my Kyosho spech AWD. I needed the cash to complete my Miss America Micro-T project.
I won't be able to really run this car till the 15th of December which is when our next race day will be. But so far just running it in the house it seems ok.

Seems I deleted photo's of my Kyosho spech MR02 so they are no longer posted. If I can find my photo's, I'll re-post theme.

Thanks byebye, I think I finally got the camera's settings just right! Now I need to recharge it. So far, I've got the car set up like this. Stiff up front, and soft in the rear. I assume this is going to "pull" it through the turns like a FWD? I know the Altezza is rear wheel drive car, but it's engine is up front, thus more weight up front. I assume it will handle the same. Am I correct? I want to prevent it from oversteering.

marc
2007.12.01, 05:57 PM
The AWD sold for 200 which isn't bad. This MR15 won't be on sale for a while. I gotta race it at the track first and see how I like it. It maybe a good racer, or it maybe a good shelf queen. I only sold that AWD to complete my Micro-T project. I wish I didn't, but I had to at the time. Oh well, I can always build another one in the future.
One thing I'd like to get for this MR15, are the blue battery clips from the AWD SP chassis kit. You know, the special blue/grey kit? I need two of theme for this car. If anybody has any they want to let go, let me know. I don't want the clear blue ones, other wise I'd get another MR15 chassis kit. What I want, is the solid blue clips from AWD.

wes
2007.12.01, 06:04 PM
$200? I would've payed way more than that :D
if you want to prevent oversteer, use harder springs in the front... But I don't think it'll handle like a FWD ;)

marc
2007.12.01, 06:22 PM
Not really like an FWD, but how an FWD understeers rather than oversteer. Right now as you can see, it's got the yellow "harder" springs up front, and the green spring out back. It's hard to tell from the hardwood floor how it effect's handling as it just spin's around on the slippery surface. I won't know it's true handling till race day. Man, I really wish I had an RCP track at home. :(

It's all GPM for the MR-02. I got it all from RCX in HK quite some time ago. They have the top damper and shock mount in stock but no alloy roll shocks. :(

Very nice Jr. How is that body working iut for you?

that car is the most consistent car i own... no matter how hard i push it it will never lose its line... it seems that some of the things i did to make it not flip made it spectacular... as far as the body i had to dremel the inside of the headlights to make it flush with the body so the front tires didnt hit.. as far as the car i used lead tape on the bottom of the car in different areas to better help balance the chassis.... im runnning the soft t-plate which helped with the traction roll cause it took alot of demand off the front of the car... as far as the top plate im runnin both discs with medium springs... and this is the only car that i run a thicker oil to help aid in body roll... im also running aluminium rims which add more weight to the lowest part of the car... i run aw40 grooves up front and kyosho 20's 700 treaded in the rear... all in all the car is pretty amazing...

About as stock as you can get but I still plan on racing it this Saturday. Stock RM Plastic T-Plate too!

Upgrades on the car:
3Racing Rear Oil Shock
Yeah Racing Hard Front Springs
Assorted shielded bearings (No, that is not the manufacture)

I have the MR-015 tie-rod set that I may or may not decide to use while tuning the car. I feel no need for it yet. It does not traction roll on my Mini-96 with the current setup, worn Topcad fronts and new Topcad rears.

Yes, those are GRP Foams on the car :) I will change them to something track legal after I have my fun with them.

I won a couple races at the local track with this car, and finished 4th in the B main at the PNWC in Vegas. Just in front of PN. The car could have used a little more steering, but was very stable and predictable. I was the only person to run an MR015 at that race.

Has anyone who runs narrow and "high" bodies manage to cure body roll or is it a curse?

Ronac
2009.03.08, 12:11 AM
I don't think there's a way to cure body roll. When I set up my 015, I set it so that it had quite a bit of roll. I did this by using softer t plates.

My reasoning is that, if there's no body roll, when you hit the limit, you'll just flip. Having a softer setup lets you gradually push the limits without sudden flips.

Skv012a
2009.03.12, 11:34 PM
With front I noticed harder setups help the car avoid maxing out and flipping. I'm trying front belly specific ballast to see if it would help. I think having more weight shifted to the front will be a great idea for a RM car.

Has anyone who runs narrow and "high" bodies manage to cure body roll or is it a curse?

well to some extent i have but that was a loooong time ago... mr01 days... had some success by putting some lead weights on different parts of the chassis... (click here for ''lead weights'' link (http://www.mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91&highlight=lead+weights))

http://www.mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=63&d=1005638726

I think having more weight shifted to the front will be a great idea for a RM car. - hmmm... how's about this?
http://www.mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=65&d=1005639136

the track we used to race on was asphalt paper (a kind of roofing material)... which didn't grip the tires as much as rcp tracks or carpet tracks... if you knew what you were doing, it provided some slippage which resulted in some pretty cool drifts around some corners...
http://www.mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=59&d=1005563056

i guess you will have to pretty much play around with your cars set up based on the track surface... sorry can't say too much about carpet and rcp surfaces, as i have very little experience on them...

hope this helps... :D

I have a RCP track set up my basement. No local tracks in my area. It hardly ever traction rolls.

EMU: How much wider will it make the front end? Also would like to know the wheel base of the 350 w/ the LCG mount that you have pictured. What is the wheel base range for a stock MR-015 MM? I'm thinking about making another MR-015 with your wide track upgrade.

Track width is 5mm wider than a stock MR015 with the same offset wheels. The same as an MR02.

GTR is 98mm. PN FMv3 is the mount pictured.

Ok so here it is. My MR-015 iSeries pictures before and after mods.
Before mods. NASCAR 29 Readyset
Stock iSeries with Goodyear branded tires

After Mods
Chrysler 3M
Mods include:
3Racing AL Motor Mount W/ Graphite Plate
3Racing Rolling Damper Set
3Racing Aluminium Outer Tuned Ball Diff
Speedy07 motor
3Racing BB set
EMU MR-015 to MR-02 Front conversion kit
Atomic 0 degree alum toe bar
Alum wheels (not sure the make or offset)
Looks good, very clean. I like the way that motormount looks. How does the car handle?

The wheels look like 0N/0W ;)

Make sure that when you mount the antenna, that you dont mount it on the carbon damper plate. That will lead to more glitching. You are best off mounting it to the front holes, and bending it over the damper...

That Unimog looks like it handles pretty well... especially on hardwood.

Thanks Eugene. The kit looks super, well crafted, and fitment was perfect.
I am not sure how it handles yet though. I am trying to figure out the best tires to use on a laminate hardwood floor. Any suggestions? Also, I haven't had a chance to figure body fitment yet so I don't have an autoscale to cover it with.

I like the way the motor mount fits and looks too. I will hopefully have a chance to measure the wheelbase and pick up a shell this weekend. I'm assuming the front track width is exact measurement of the MR-02 with this kit.

I think the wheelbase you have it in right now, is a 94mm wheelbase... Although, you can easily run a 98mm wheelbase with the equipment you have, you just need to move the t-plate and damper rearward 1 screw position. At 94mm, I would recommend the Corvette C5R, it is a very neutral body... and is durable as well. For 98mm, I like the GTR or the FXX on a large RCP with the 015. Both McLaren bodies are good too. With the wheels you have, the older, small McLaren would fit perfectly at 98mm. Yes, the front track is identical to MR02 with the tower bar conversion. I really love the color of the tower bars, you rarely see such a nice deep red on alloy parts. I chose that color to match the MR015 chassis parts.

What bodies do you have?

I have a Chrysler 300 with no side clips for mounting. I have a DB-9 for my MA-010, a WRX STi for MA-010, and the Nascar 29 for the MR-015. Pretty much crappy choices.
What would you say would be a good tire compound/choice for a laminate floor?

EMU
2009.06.10, 12:38 AM
I would use hard slicks up front, with a medium radial in the rear. The radial works better on surfaces like that, when the tires start to pick up dust... Which is why super soft tires dont work so well... they pick up dust much faster.

I would start with a Kyosho 30d radial in the rear, and try the stock tires on the front. You can also try an Atomic 8d radial in the rear. You are going to have to try a few different combinations and see what works best for you.

Same chassis as above minus the motor mount and DPS. Took off the Barricade body and put on Suki's S2000 for the wife to use. She never did. So I put on this Xmod body that was recently given to me. Much easier to mount compared to the Barricade. Was able to use the S2000 front body clip without any modifications. I was pleasantly surprised. Had to dremel off the stock Xmod body clip mount on the body. Body looks better on the MR-015 than the Evo. The stance is almost perfect.

0 offset all around for wide rims and +2 for narrow fronts.

Looks great. I've never seen these raced. Is it common to run wides up front? It makes it look very scale, very realistic.

RussF
2010.12.26, 03:25 PM
Actually I dont know. I've never raced them either. In fact I havent even tested this one out yet. I purchased the wide front rims and the hardest wide PN tire I could (10 deg) for the front just for the appearance. I also purchased a set of +2 narrows for the front if I need less grip up front. I suspect that will be the case, and I will experiment with different compounds to find a good balance.

I built this one for a race we attend in Janauary every year. Thats the only place I've seen them raced. It looks pretty fun so I thought "what the heck" and went ahead and built it up. I spent more than I had planned but I really enjoy the building part as much as the racing part.

Thanks for the compliments.

wide all around is fun to drive... i've tried that waay back on a mr01...

it provides more traction and steering response, compared to +2 narrow fronts...

with +2 narrow fronts, you're bound to experience understeering after a while...

let us know if it still holds true for the 015 :D

EMU
2010.12.27, 10:36 AM
I thiknk that with the 102mm wheelbase, it might be too much front grip. You may want to try an LM 30d front tire on the Nascar wheel.

Little update on the setup. It worked out great with the narrow 15 PN fronts and 10 PN wide rears. Car was really easy to drive, which made it very fast. I liked the set up alot.

This is the result:
