View Full Version : XMod Generation 1- Rear Right Suspension Binding

First, just wanna say "hello" to everyone. :)
Ok, I'm pretty new to really working on XMods, and I'm running into some trouble.
I have a rear right suspension that keeps binding on my 2004 Impreza. If I hold the car up, the right suspension doesn't sag, but the moment I set it down, it starts leaning with the wheel leaning inwards. If I press on the right rear corner of the car, it doesn't "bounce back" to where it should.
I do not have this problem with the left side. The left side is sturdy, and works as if it should.
I've disassembled and reassembled the rear right suspension about 4 times, each time giving them a visual inspection before and after each disassembly/reassembly, and I'm clueless as to where the problem could lie.
Does anyone have a remedy for curing this suspension problem? For the record, the Impreza is a "brand new car." It's only been run for about 10 minutes, max.
Any help would be great! Thanks!

If you could post some pics, I might be able to help. From your description, it sounds like there might be some debris or something in there. Do you have bearings? If you do, try to clean them out.
BTW, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome.
I looked for debris and other objects that could be interfering with the operation of the springs, but found nothing. I'll post some pics up. :)
*****UPDATE!*****
Here are some photos. I hope they help!

It kinda sounds like the screws are too tight on that side. Also, look inside the drive shaft's cup joint to make sure there's nothing in there. Another possiblilty (this is the larger scale mechanic in me talking) is the spring rates are different from the right spring and the left spring. Swap the springs from left to right and see what happens. If your problem moves to the left side; you know it's the spring. If the problem stays on the right, you know it's not the spring.

Has your car taken any hard hits? I've found over my 4 years with Xmods the suspensions slowly fall out of working order. With enough crashes, your suspension will stop working to it's fullest potential.
Another possibility is that the spring is worn out (dunno how) or that the damper is binding.

I've already tried swapping the springs from side to side. I get the same problem with the stock springs as with the upgraded springs. :(
I've looked for debris, and everything looks good. I've disassembled/reassembled everything numerous times, and I've been sure to check for debris. :(
RoketMini, the car hasn't taken any hard hits. I've run it for about 10 minutes, and never hit anything. I've had the car for nearly 1.5 years. I just haven't gotten the time to really spend a lot of time with it, and I just recently figured, "Well, I have this thing, I'm gonna use it."
