I was reading through XMW and found out RS was selling the RCP Oval for only 50 bucks now! Really cheap way to get some rcp in my opinion.

2 ovals = 1 wide L track + 2 more corners.

Hmm. If there wasn't SRC for HFAY, I'd probably make my own club at this price! :)

3 Ovals = 2 Wide Ls (Hfay) plus a pair of start finish lines extra...

Basically 50% off.

Well I bought the two Wide Ovalas when they had them for $99, which I know was cheaper than last year. I grabbed a third last night at $49. So now I'm at $247 for 3 Wide ovals. That's a bit more than my space can handle, but atthe price I couldn't pass it up. I honestly wanted the extra turns more than anything.

Wanted to buy 4 of these but they don't ship to Canada?

Are they the same track as the RCP brand?

briankstan

yes. they are provided to Radio shack by RCP... the only difference is they have the Xmod Logo on them.

a good question to ask is, are the xmods tile thickness the same as the kyosho and rcp tile thickness?

yes, it's the exact same track. The only difference is the xmods logo.

You could always drive to Michigan to get them, about 4-5 hours (i have driven to Toronto before)... I am about 1.5 to 2 hours closer than The Mini-Z dojo to Toronto.

Declaring them over the boarder will be fun.... lol. I guess You could open the box and mess it up inside and it will be a used item, and would be less of a problem.

I could even drive them to the bridge... almost half way. The gas money would be far cheaper than shipipng them for $100-200 a box...

Thinking of ordering some myself and storing them until I get back into Mini-Z... but I dont have the funds or storage space.

I am curious, can the side walls with the xmods logo be flipped over so its not visible? or is it printed on both sides? :)

arch2b
2007.08.31, 09:02 AM
what would be the potential trouble in ordering them and driving them to pick up and simply stating they were used in an rc event which could be very true if you opened the boxes at the mzr dojo?

i would offer to ship them for people but time has been short for me and i'd hate to commit to something i could not follow thru on promptly. :(

Only one side on the wide oval I got. A warning though, the wide oval came with 4 bump tiles, not the normal 2. If you have an entertainment book (for US), there is a $10 off $40 coupon that is perfect for this :)

Just have to swap bump rails with one of the spare start finish line rails & or curves, and you still have 2 Wide Ls from 3 Ovals ;).

an entertainment book coupon? for radio shack? I get those all the time, out here in the O.C. they are a way of life, but how would I use it for the on-line shop?

Could you guys in Canada ship them to a P.O. Box state side? I just shipped some stuff to Washington for a guy in Canada. He got an account at a shipping depot.

I did it in store, the ent. book coupon doesn't work online.

GF Racing now has a practice oval......

The box it came in is 22"x40"x11" but you'll want to leave the rails on when you store it after that and the box won't be useful. When stacked with rails its ~26"x26", maybe a little less for a perfect stack.

I believe it will fit in a Uhaul, or other vendor, wardrobe box. I'd have to measure, but I have stacked some of the anti-fatigue mats in there.

I can't even fit a wide-oval in my room (I think). I only have 6' x 8' of room. Only way for me to get a decent rcp track is if my parents park outside for a day and i use the garage.

same here I planned on putting it in my basement but I am way to lazy to move things around. I think I am just going to use it in my back yard until I am ready to make the room inside.

So for a home track to set up in the basement or outside in say a 15' x 30' area, would you guys suggest 3 or 4 of those wide ovals. I figured 3 but adding a 4th doesnt increas the shipping price. Any opinions?

herman

3 wide ovals approximates a wide l with some extra tiles... i say the more the merrier... other guys who have set up their tracks can give you a more detailed answer regarding how much space / area they'd take up...
:D hope this helps

Russ? is this you? if so I hope you had a great time racing tonight. I hope to see you out at some more races.

if you are someone else. Hey we race in Salt Lake City and would love to have you come join us. Contact me for mor info.

For your area you can fit 3, you could use some of the 4 but I don't think it would all fit.

if you want a track for home you can't beat this RS price. the mini-z stays consistant at the same price. you can always run the MR-01 and upgrade to the MR-02 later.

My opinion is go for the track for now.

I'm glad you had a good time. :D

Draconious

only 33 of these left... minus the 6 I might be purchasing in a few moments ;).

Also due to the extra bump rails in the xmod track a qty of 4 would make a better Hfay track, otherwise you will have holes in the track or extra bumps.

RussF
2007.11.12, 10:14 AM
That really is a pretty good deal. I bought 3 and they are still in the box. I havent had the room/time. About the same time I got mine I noticed people selling them on eBay for $100 plus shipping. My advise to anybody even thinking about RCP is to pick up on this deal before its gone.

... but being a massive distance away, I'm not able to take advantage of them. They don't seem to ship between stores past their own district borders (however far that is), so for those of you in the neighbourhood, those who can travel, or have family/friends close to these places, here's your chance to snag a few deals.

I was mainly searching around Washington state, since it's closest to me, but there's nothing anywhere near me... I thought I got lucky with one in Georgetown, near the international airport in Seattle, but upon phoning the place it turned out the store was actually in Anchorage, Alaska. They said they get calls from Seattle all the time and it's just a screw-up on the Radio Shack website. Only 1 in stock at their store in Alaska, if anyone's interested... Not worth it for me to spend the money on shipping from there for one track.

What I really need is one (or more) of these stores to ship 4 of these sets to their Bellingham store! Wishful thinking, it seems.

Good luck,

Kevin.

You're probably right - my poor spelling strikes again :o. And yes - they seem to be the same cost as before, although I've only phoned a couple of the stores myself to check whether they could ship them for me (unfortunately not out of their district). I just pulled these from their website where it shows they have them in stock locally. The part I was looking at was: Model: 8548 Catalog #: 60-8548.

Hope someone gets some good track out of this!

8 boxes...Nice! I only ended up with 7. I ordered 2 initially in late November and then decided to set up a club track so I got 5 additional and thus Mini Speedway was born!

FYI, 7 boxes of Wide Oval, as these are, equals 4-Wide Ls plus 1 Wide Oval plus 4 extra Side Straight Bumps and 4 extra Finish Line Straights.

Lots of track!

They are totally blowing it out - at that price they just want the stuff out of their stores. What I did was use their check-stock thing and go through each store in a given state (ok - a bunch of states). You might just get lucky and find one or two stores that still have a box. I've given up hope of anything within 500 miles or so from my place ...

If you find a store with stock somewhere within a tank or two distance from you, it might be worth a road-trip with that kind of price. Phone first and double-check the product is really there though - wouldn't do to find out the stock-check lied after you travel 100 miles to get there!

Good luck hunting!

I called one in my area (Seattle) as listed for the zipcode. Person quoted $121. I said that it was listed on the website as $12 and her response was that the price difference was due to being in Alaska. Juno Alaska. gg radioshack shop location search.

I guess RS is franchise based so they don't nec. honor online pricing?

PridgeoK
2008.04.23, 04:55 PM
Just talked to another one who told me an interesting tale - not sure if it's legit or not, but here's what he said: the franchise stores start with a company number of 22-K###, whereas the corporate stores start with a 01-####... the franchise stores likely won't sell at the cost shown online, since they lose money out from what they purchased it for. The corporate stores will likely need to honour the pricing...

But since they advertise the prices like they do, it likely means that a corporate store *somewhere* has some in stock, and they want to flog it.

Pain in the ass though - I've phoned a number of stores with the same luck...
