View Full Version : What can you tell me about this iWaver?

Hello - great forums you have here!

I bought an iWaver last night from a guy at a local race. I talked to him about them for a bit and he really seemed to know his stuff. He has about 8 Minis and was the fastest racer there. His opinion was that this iWaver was equal to the Kyosho MR02 in every way, and he was able to run it well.

I was hoping someone could give me some more details since I'm new to the Mini's. He said the following items have been done:

CF Damper plate
CF H plate
Bearings throughout
Ball diffs
Aluminum castor blocks
Aluminum cross brace (don't know the actual name, it's the orange part in the pictures)
X-Speed motor
Upgraded FET (not stacked, it's made to run in stock class)

Basically I was interested in what chassis this was, since I see mention of several models but have not seen an identification picture. Also, what do you think of the mods that have been made - it sounds like he has gone over it well. Also, just a little showing off of my new ride ;)

Thanks!

With the mods made to it, you should definatly be able to run with Kyoshos in stock class. It looks like it has all the neccesary hop-ups and then some. The only thing I might add is SS king pins for a smoother front suspension.

To me it looks like the new version of the FireLap 2.0.

If you have any more specefic questions feel free to ask.

BTW, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

Millertime,
Welcome to the forum, from looking at the pictures. I would believe that it is a Firelap NanoRacer 2. However I see the "this is iwaver" etching on the bottom of the chassis, this is what seems strange to me. To my knowledge we have never release a black plastic version of NR2 bottom chassis. Especially during the iwaver/Firelap cross over period.
That is why this chassis seems really weird to me. I'm not sure which generation of Firelap you have, but it might be from our old factory using our old mold to produce this. If so then I can't say more about the quality. But it wouldn't matter too much since from looking at the picture, the only plastic left from the original is the battery compartment.

Well thanks to everyone for the information.. sounds like I have a one of a kind ;)

Since posting the original message, I had a chance to get back to the track and run it. It needed quite a bit of tuning to get dialed in, or at least close to dialed in. The tires were shot, I went with a negative toe bar, softer T plate, and quite a bit of work on the diff. The rear end was REAL loose as it came to me, but with some help we were able to get it to a respectable setup.

I really am impressed with the performance of such a small and (relatively) inexpensive RC. The tunability is amazing, during the first laps I was worried that it was going to be too loose to enjoy, but each seemingly minor change had a dramatic effect on the car's handling. Thursday nights are race nights here, so I'm looking forward to some more time with this :)

Nice product!

Thanks, even though I could not confirm if it is an old iwaver, or a firelap.
But I could confirm it was something that we had sometime during our history. (maybe beyond my knowledge of the product)
