It's pretty good around the track. Runs just like an MR-02. I don't feel the difference in the response of the servo. The transmitter is very light in your hands and the steering is very quick. No glitching or jittering.

I never ran it with the Porsche body btw. This went straight to a VDSII and HFAY motor. It did not feel any different than my AM car.

I'm ready for HFAY Season VI.:D

When I received the car, I also put all my parts from my AM car. The only thing that really gives it away is the tiny antenna

I figure enough practice with the stock transmitter and a familiar setup will help me make an easy transition to the Helios. I was already able to turn some fast consistent laps with it but I really had to be light on the steering.

I usually run between -30 to -40 steering curve and probably 100-120 steering travel.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/toffe777/P1010022-3.jpg

Somthing else to point out. I had to chop up the front and middle of a dummy chassis to put the porsche on it. I also had to bend the T-plate of the motor mount to get it to not sit like a stink bug.

no big deal, bone stock except for the 2 deg. toe bar.
I rebuilt the diff with stealth diff lube and sanded the tires,
as they tend to under-steer at speed (40's front, 30's rear)
very cool radio adjustments, once you're over the ugliness. ;-)
a bit pricey, though...:o
now I just need to get one of those stealth AMB transponders.

I received my first Mini Z on Monday; I figured the PCB upgrade was a good time for me to venture into the Mini-Z world. As you can see below, itís a standard stock MR-02 chassis, except it has the 2.4 GHz ASF brain on the inside. Ordered from Reflex Racing, I believe they are the only company offering this (or just a 2.4 GHz PCB) as of right now. This was perfect for me because I didnít want to waste time/money on the older AM electronics (1 TX for Mini Z and Dnano, nice) and I wanted to be able to use all the great MR-02 upgrades and bodies already out there (not a huge fan of the Porsche LM body). I ordered some upgrades as well, including some Reflex Racing exclusive products: BP 1000 mah batts, SSG2WD tires, and an Avid bearing set.

Big thanks to the Reflex Racing staff namely Cristian and Joe (ruf). They even answered all my questions through email about specific upgrade parts. Great service, unique products, informative articles, deal on shipping, Mini-Z specialty - check them out.

Does everybody else think the pricing is backwards? Meaning, the transmitter was cheaper than the car its self. I would have thought the transmitter be the more expensive part as you only need one. Then collect the car's at a cheaper price. I've noticed some where that you can purchase 2.4GHZ PCB upgrades for the older car's as well. Worth doing?

No.

Since it didn't have a servo attached, and the fet looked iffy, I decided not to bother mounting or risk it... The fet looks burnt...

Haco's board is what every new board should look like. Mine has all the flux burnt off and the rest of the wires hanging on by threads on what is supposed to be a new board...

it will need some work done on it... again...

Still pissed...

Its very easy, much easier than the MA-010, which wasn't that hard either. Just use the same power and switch wires from the AM board. Also, make sure to add the bushings like Ruf said to clear the ICS connector

The LM motor mount works pretty good as a 98mm motor mount. It can accept a PN disk damper that is in placed contact with the top of the chassis. The shock even clears the rear window on the Enzo. This set up is the lowest CG motor mount out there for 98mm unless someone comes up with an alloy mount that mounts the motor low like the PN F1 mount.

I agree with Flash - The MRCG deserved the 2.4gHz ASF PCB upgrade. Very nice car color0. :)
I like how you tweaked the side suspension plates too for more droop/suspension plate freedom. I thought I remembered you saying the MRCG fiberglass-chassis wasn't as stiff as you liked it to be - Do you think trimming more of the main-chassis plate from the sides is going to cause any problems? Just curious.:)
I also think it would be cool to see a link-version of the MRCG.

Grant, is that a front anti-roll bar? That is cleeeean. ;)

Felix- The chassis is appropriately stiff now (I think...), I managed to avoid weakening the chassis further by only cutting away chassis material behind the flex plate mounting points. I switched it over to 94MM with an NSX shell last night and I'm really liking it -- with the long tail it has much more traction than the McLaren. :)

TJ- How are your ASF cars faring at Inside Line? I'm a little worried the board will shut down with the car at the end of the straight, and plow the car into the wall, which happened last time with the Micro-T board. :o

as far as i know there are 2 proto type sway bars.....one is on my car and the other one is on philips car....they stablize the front really well
on the bright side.....i talked to philip tonight and he told me they will be available from pnracing soon... and will have 2 different tensions ill keep yall posted:D

Hey Benmlee,

I tried doing a setup similar to yours this past weekend but couldn't get the distance right for the main rear shock. based on the hole positions it wanted to be inbetween the two mounting holes in the center. Or if i didn't it would pull the motor pod too far forward using the top most hole, or too far back using the next one. What did you do to get around this?

The rear shock used the second hole on the PN shock mount plate. That compressed the springs a little, but was just right because the LM mount H plate was pretty soft. Without the spring, the chassis would be almost dragging on the ground.
You probably found out already, the damper post needs some washers to space up. It also need a countersunk screw to secure. Tried using a button head screw, and it interfered with the motor which cracked the motor mount side plates.

Your right, but instead of threading the T-plate screws with the head facing the ground, you need to have the head of the screw facing up in the air.

Also, the long allen head in the "T" piece should be screwing in from the other side.

marc
2008.04.23, 07:03 PM
Ok guy's, I figured it out, duh. You screw the peice on from the top down, rather than bottom up.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g184/marq74/DSC07579.jpg
I found a ball joint peice left over from my Trex helicopter to snap the rear shock onto and it work's quite well. For the spacer, I'm useing a spare PN AWD knuckle shim, also work's very well for this purpose. This clears the Diablo's rear and work's very well. I won't know it's true potential till I get to the track's this Saturday, but at home it seem's okay.

Thank's Faze! The paint seems to be turning out better than I had expected. I usually spray thick and sometimes the paint run's and what not, but so far so good. I need to get some flat black and silver to paint the detail's, then glue the bit's back on. I need to finish painting the rest of the body parts to match. After the flat black and silver has had a chance to dry, I will apply several coat's of clear to protect the paint. It won't be as good as the AutoScale, but it should be good enough for racing. Since this is my racing specific body, I dont' care too much about it's perfection. It just has to look good enough for the track. Several coat's of clear should help protect it some what.

you've already posted this in your swithcing body thread. please do not double post info where it's not especially appropriate. paint job failures have no bearing on this thread when there are no pictures, which is what this whole thread is about. i need an emoticon for 'this is useless without pictures'...

it's not so much a problem when you have similar discussion ongoing in multile threads but whe the subject is showing off pictures, tossing in comments about some project car just doesn't fit into the thread continuity, especially without pictures. with pictures you could at least be following up a previous post.

Thank's arch, it's even more frusterating when you can't find the none-painted body to complete the project with. Oh sure, I can find another red AutoScale Diablo on line, but I dont want to ruin another beauty, one is enough! I really want to find a white Diablo, but it is near impossible to find it. If I do find one, I'm thinking of some nice mid-metallic or pearl blue paint to go along with the blue alloy on my chassis.

This is how my 2 ASF Porsche 962 look now.
I like the way the Porsche drives but I thought it would be cool to race my prefered setup wich is MR02MM at 2.4 Ghz. So now one of the Porsche is mounted on an older AM chassis (had to drill a hole for the antenna). The second Porsche is on the shelve.

The Mc Laren has a few allow parts, also the indestructible I-Waver shell mounted on it. This is for durability as this is my racing car but both cars have similar and simple setups.

The Ford GT is more like what an out of a box ASF MR02MM would be, talking about simplicity it only has ball bearings, H plate and Atomic TS wheels. I kept the LM front knuckels as it drops the nose just enough.
The GT it is my "performance" car. It is my prefered one for lap records on my track.

Both cars are light and agile and the X-speed motors in them are the best I have out of my entire chassis fleet. Have tried Atomic stock, T2, PN speedy, etc on these but none had the flexibility, run time and reliability That I have with the X-speeds. Also it seems that the X-speed (V) along with the 2x2 3010 makes for a great combo. Great acceleration and 35KPH on the speed checker with a 9T pinion.

I realized that with the superior steering of the ASF, only a few parts are required to make a chassis perform well.

I am running a Black Mercedes CLK and a SC430 on it. I have Kyosho Diff in the rear, and Atomic Adjustable in the front. I am not sure whether I should try a one way out or not. Anyways, the car has ALL PN on it. The front Sway bar I removed, because it KILLS your steering. Personally I hate it in the front, love the sway bar in the back. This motor mount desgin for normally ball diff, if you run FM-V3 motor mount on LM body, you need to change to 3 offset wheel.

I havent tried narrows on an AWD but I have been using narrows all around on my new HFAY car with a McLaren body. I'm trying to keep the weight down for better performance. Do those rear tires work for RCP track?
Yeah, the atomic A.W grooves work nicely on RCP after a few runs and are a popular choice at our club. However, we've recently come to find the PN RCP tyres even better!

TJ, I wouldn't worry too much about the spoiler, I would worry a little more aboutthe body clearance. Are you getting any rubbing with the rear tires? I know the silver carbon plate is slower rotating than the ti or fiberglass ones, but there isn't much room under there. The car looks pretty slick though...

Thanks Flash! I took the pic just to show the new body :D! but I did lift it by a mill and it was still rubbing so I lifted about 2mm and everything was cool. I've ran my McL body and sc430 for almost a year and I still have the original spoiler attached on there.

if you drive like alesi... i would be worried, not only the spoiler, but the front end as well... where the headlights are... :D

but seriously, seeing you drive, i wouldn't worry about the spoiler too much, unless you get rearended or get into a really bad pile up... also try to strengthen the front as i mentioned...

Tjay, I've been running that body since RCX. I've only had a problem with the wing when my car started rolling over. I just glued the screws that hold the wing and where the wing connects to the body. It hasn't come off since. Now I just have to figure out how to stop my car from rolling over :(

Yeah I do remember seeing your car at RCX stock class with them black dish wheels :). It's amazing how this body gave me all kinds of traction. It almost rolled over yesterday during my practice and this is on my stock car. I don't even want to think of what would happen if I have this body on my 2wd stock at Kennon ;).

Iíve fallen in love with the LM chassis and the Mazda 787 body, also have a Porsche 962C body with itís even more radical wheel base but as others have already noted itís a little delicate up front where as the Mazda can bash walls with the best of them, amazing what a difference one little plastic strip can make.

http://lbspd.com/v-web/gallery/albums/album183/MVC_292X.sized.jpg

All a set of 1į camber standard MR-02/15 knuckles needed where two shims for on the LM chassis. Out of curiosity I tried the stock LM front knuckles on the Enzo chassis with surprisingly good results, a nice alternative to shimming, unfortunately as you can see it needs a little camber for even tire wear, so itís back to the .5į camber knuckles and shimming.

LBRC
2008.06.05, 10:25 PM
I like it with the ASF, been a Z2 fan for years now keeps the old throttle finger limber ;) although I do seem to go through a lot of tires. With itís spiral rotor the Z2 takes a bit of current to get up and turning but once your moving itís relatively energy efficient, with a nice power band and the ASF board doesnít seem to have any problem handling it, oh yea and with the KT-18 there is always the training mode:D Have to say though that the Stock R in the LM chassis even though itís name implies a stock class motor has replaced the Z2 as my motor of choice for a ďmodifiedĒ car.

LBRC
2008.06.06, 03:04 AM
Length wise they are both 104mm from axle to axle, but the Porsche is 4mm wider than the Mazda. 77mm wide outside of tire to outside of tire front and back for the Porsche and 73mm for the Mazda.

Am I correct that PN makes an aluminum motor mount specifically for the LM Leman's cars? I think this is the part, go to their MR02 part's catagory at RC Kennon, go to chassis/suspension, and look for item MR2288. I'm wondering if anybodies tried it and what they thought of it. They arent really dish wheels, I think thier refered to as aero disk wheels. They have vents cast into the wheel that force air on to the brakes to cool them, since rear brakes only do about 30% of the stopping the dont need to be cooled like the fronts.

That mounts for regular MR-02's, the regular diff fits right into it. I use this on both my cars, one with a LM body, instead of using 0 offest in th rear I had to use 2 to make up the difference in width. It give you a lower CG at the expense of a little more weight.

Yes, I used a round file to enlarge the original shaft opening slightly until it just fit the part of the Stock R that sticks through, then widened the opening so I could use different pinion and spur combinations while I was at it. Was tempted to use a Dremil but didn’t want to get carried away.

Some of the Kyosho mini-z bodies are inspired by early Tamiya cars. Those early Tamiya RC cars are very desireable for collectors. Unbuild kits from the 70s to 80s easily cost over $1000.
People who collect these kit will immediately recognize the black countach with white stripes as a copy of the early Tamiya competition special pan car. Same with the 934 and 935. I am sure those collectors have all bought these mini-z bodies. Some of them ended up getting into mini-z too like me.
Looks familiar? This is the 1st, 2nd and 8th cars that Tamiya made.

Thank's parts, yea it sort of suck's that the rear engine cover had to be cut to fit the shock, but that's the character of the Countach, it's so low back there, it interfear's with the rear shock. But the car need's that shock to handle well. I've tried it without that rear shock and just doesn't work as well.
Besides that, I figured since I was going to be racing this car, you know the bodies going to be beaten up anyway, so what's the point? Would have to get another one for shelf purposes. I think this will be my best hanlding car of all and I can't wait to get an RCP track and run this thing!
benmlee, nice finds there with the Tamiya. I have noticed that my selfe and I actually had thought they were originally Kyosho's bigger 1/10 scale car's. Not realizing they were Tamiya's. Wonder if Kyosho is borrowing the lisence from Tamiya?

I had to retire the porsche LM body, way too fragile, even after beefing it up.
Been running it with mclaren gtr for a while which works quite well on it.
I only use it at home on a small indoor foam tile circuit. My other cars run either have standard or xspeed motors with unmodified 3004 fet boards. The asf with a standard motor seems to be as quick as the others on the xspeed.Put an xspeed in it and it's way too much for my little circuit!
Anyway,I am really enjoying the asf at the moment. It's interesting swapping between the asf and a standard mr02,steering wise the standard car feels real sluggish.
Had some parts turn up today which I have since fitted but not run yet.I am interested to see how well the VDS body handles.Just got to decide how to paint it now too.

Hurray! My Tagu's finally arrived! Three week's later..........don't they make the Countach look stunning!? I love it! The front's are a probably 1mm wider than stock so the rubber will rub on the fender. I'm not going to worry about that now that my track is put away, plus not sure I want to race with these wheel's anyway. But if I do, some carefull dremelling will be required on the fender's to allow the wheel's to turn full left and full right. Anyway, enjoy!

What I like about these wheel's is they are similar pattern to the Countach's stock wheel's, just look's ton's more stunning! Much more, dare I say, blingtastic?
The only stripe I don't like on this body is the very bottom stripe. I don't like how it goes down and under the air scoop. I think it would've looked better without it.

I wonder which wheels are lighter, the tagu artemis or the

material taken out...

New PN Pancar/Enzo.

Will be a pancar, but this is the bashing setup.

Notes on PN stuff. Like the v3 mount so far. Tad bit heavy,
and the rear is sagging a little, but I don't like running high rear
shocks or cutting bodies, so the Yaz f1 shock mod should be
done within the next week or so. Diff seems a little grainy, but ok.

02 Knuckles once again are crap and won't even work with PN's
own kingpins... will need to file away some material. Last
set I did that with wasn't fun at all... Kyoshos are the best and for 10
bucks can't be beat. :p PN's AWD knuckles also aren't my cup of tea
either. Need to find a drillbit for the swaybar...

Same for me.I think more people need to start with xmods and drive them for a few months before progressing to mini z's.Then they will no what it really feels like to have dodgy reverse.
I think mainly it's the younger ones with lightning fast reactions that have the problems. In the latter half of your thirties, like me,your finger seems to travel to the reverse position slower, therefore encountering less reversing problems.
Also age brings patience,or slower reactions,or both,or senility!

SWEET looking ride! Can I ask what are the offsets for the front and rear (is it the same as the stock offsets or you increased it)? I have a black Porsche body, but don't have an MR015 (but planning to get one). Thnx.

marc
2008.10.09, 11:18 AM
It's stock offset. I use the wheel offset chart at Atomic Mods when purchasing aftermarket wheels. The only car I found wrong so far was the LP500 Countach as the front wheel offset was +1 too wide up front and I had to trim the fenders for it to turn.
Other than that the chart is pretty acurate.
The Team Atlis wheels are pretty cheap for such a nice set of aluminum wheel's and the overal quality is pretty good. Their nice and light weight.
