Nekocon 11 (http://www.nekocon.com/) is rolling around, and this time I'd like to plan some events ahead of time. I have a lot of responsibilities during the convention, so I can help plan but I may not be able to help run the track all weekend. Soundwave should be able to work the track though.

I want to run some qualifying heats for the newbies on Saturday and then have a main event on Sunday. If there's enough interest this year from the miniz community, I'd also like to run some races for the pros. I'm going to see about getting trophies and prizes for these events, too. Shouldn't be a problem.

What kind of race events would you guys like? Aside from the track we'll have our normal events, video game rooms, dances, dealer's room, cosplay, etc. Plus some new and exciting stuff in the works that I can't talk about :p

We should be in Hall B again, with approximately 60'x60' of the room for us (the dots on the floor plan are 30' apart).

Well, let's figure out what we want to do with the time and space. We won't have the money to do some of the things I wanted to do, but I'm still planning on getting trophies and some prizes. I want to have two events, one for the pros and one for the ams. I'd like to give an amateur an RTR. Don't know what kind of prize the pros would like, other than a trophy.

What kind of race do we want to run? Unfortunately, we can't turn the lights out in Hall B, so we can't run a night course.

i ws thinking that that maybe we could do something similar to the body spec races we haev in dc only require an anime theme to them. we have an unofficial 80's these format for our upcoming van race:p

I recently heard from a guy here in Virginia Beach who has a couple of Ls and is building a banked oval. Maybe some Nascar action? Byebye should like that.

I had an idea of asking some other clubs to start up a Mid-Atlantic Points Series, or club tour. Three to four events per year, each one hosted by a different club in the mid Atlantic area.

I think this would be a great way for people to meet each other, cross pollinate skills and ideas, and have a good time.

The DCGTG hosts several events already.
SCRC's event would be Nekocon. It's really the only time we have the facilities.
Would Charlottesville, Dorks on Wheels, Charm City, or Hotwheels Hobby be interested in participating?

Nekocon has signed two musical acts for this year Echo Stream (http://www.myspaceprofiles.org/profiles/5255318.html) and making their North American debut, GPKISM (http://www.gpkism.net/). They'll be performing Friday and Saturday night.

On the Miniz front, we've got a lot more track, and a lot more cars. I've acquired two loaner cars for attendees to drive on on a separate track from the rest of us (Thanks, VAzRACER!). I'm going to get at least one more. I'm also going to buy an RTR to give away as a prize.

Unfortunately I'm running two departments this year and likely to end up in the fetal position and a catatonic state by Saturday. We could seriously use some more volunteers to help keep the cars rolling. Not asking anyone to loan out their own equipment, I'll provide that stuff. Just keep the cars moving as best you can and answers lots of questions from attendees. This is a great opportunity to promote miniz racing to a lot of people (especially since our attendance should jump this year as a result of having the musical acts). Volunteer staff get a free membership to the convention. Just work six-eight hours a day (and by work I mean play with minizs). If you can only make it one or two days, that's cool. If you need crash space, I can try to help. My wife and I have the staff suite at the hotel next door. I'm looking for two or three more people. I feel like I'm putting Arch on the spot because I won't be able to help out much :(

Still looking for feedback about what kind of event you guys would like to have here (if any). I can't get the group discount any lower (it's pretty low already) but we can offer a lot for that money. 12 hour enduro? No problem. Two days 12 hours each? Also no problem. Giant track? Okay. November's HFAY? Easy. We can do just about anything except turn off the lights.

Now that the PN East coast regional is in the books and with only the NCRC ALS charity event left to complete it is time to focus on the NEKOCON which will be held in early November. The 7-9th I believe. Here is a great opportunity to meet and compete with recers from up and down the coast in a low pressure yet wide open event designed to promote the scale and generally just have a good time.

We are hoping for a little involvement from the big K and anyone else that might want to contribute. We just need to remember that the event is to promote the hobby and particularly the scale.

For particular's about fee's and accommadations contact the host group. I am working on plaques for trophies. The format at this point is an open comp theme in ASC, F-1 and Pan. This could be altered to fit participation so if you are planning on or even think you might attend then please post those intent's here so that adjustments can be made if needed.

Thank's for the time and see you at the NEKOCON

What days are you going to race?
What hours are you going to race?
Have you had many people sign up?
It does seem like a nice time to meet people with the same interest, Please up date us with all possible info.
We are trying to bring 3 or 4 people from the myrtle beach, sc area, so the sooner we have info, the better.

A preliminary completed circuit has been submitted for approval along with a loose schedule. As soon as I hear from the powers that be I will tune the schedule into a reasonable format with specific times for the action. I will also get the finished layout posted as well. I can say this so far. The track will be quite fast and very challenging for all levels of driver. Remember this is an open competition event and speeds are expected to be, how should we say, excessive. Hopefully all the big guns from along the East Coast will find their way to this event. Left Coaster's are certainly welcome. Bragging rights are at stake. Here is a real opportunity to show off all the new Pro-28's, MRCG's, Sinister's and home built creations that are lurking in the wing's waiting for the chance to show off.

More to come. Soon.

It will be a pleasure metting you. Would you please try to talk the Gasman into coming also. I owe him a drink or 12 for his help with the Core System.

My goal for this event is to have at least 63 total entries for all three classes.
That will give us an A,B,and C in each group.

If we can show a good turn out and a competitive event it will set the stage for an even bigger showdown for 2009.

I look foward to meeting you again up in in Hampton, the diablo was fun, what little i was able to see, looikng foward to the next.

Landon and I plan to race in all three events at NekoCon, but if i can be of any help, depending on the final schedule, let me know.

Being that we will be racing in an open space, we will need to bring our own pit tables and some portable driving stands, is this correct?

Just heard from Phillip Ng. Despite having to handle the PN Worlds Phillip and PN will also be contributing prizes and give aways for the NEKOCON.

The event is picking up momentum as it grows closer. With a little bit of help from all who plan to attend this event could take on a life of it's own as the Premier annual open competition throwdown of the year. Come on right coasters. Let's get together and show the rest of the Country how it's done.

Pedro, I cant wait to chase you around the track again! Im guessing youll be bringing your AWD. I just reset my PN car up wit ha Stock R so Ill have some heat ro run with against ya :D

Jay, Im looking forward to getting to race you again as well. we still need to try and get is SC and NC guys together more.

Ive been tlaking it up a bit at our local spot as well. There are a few poeple who have shwn interest, so maybe we can come with more than just my dad and I.

Mike, The sponsership deals are sounding better and better. Maybe now that those big names have signed up some others will follow suit! This looks like its going to be one fun weekend.

Hey guys, here's the track lay out. Chibi-Motegi!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/freekfornature/RCs/tracks/DSC00809.jpg

This should be a very exciting track. As there will be amateur racing, the track will probably be split into two loops for a good portion of the day, but the main events will be run on the entire thing.

I believe we'll have all the tables we need. Not so sure about chairs. You'll probably want an extension cord and power strip as well. Plenty of power available, it just isn't always where you want it to be.

mlee,

I would like to make hotel reservations.
Do know if the non novice are running Fri, Sat & Sun or just two days?
Also if you have an idea when qualifying and the mains are going to run,
even if all you have is a window.

I looks like it is shaping up to be a nice event.

mleemor60

Andy,
I thought that Landon said there was family in the area to stay with. The event hotel is the Embassy Suites that is attached to the convention center. Get on their site and ask for the Nekocon rate.

The amatuer(sp?) portion of this event is for the actual convention goer's. All of us that have held a transmitter before will be classified as Pro's(sic)

As far as scheduling is concerned, it should be posted this week. It looks like the Am side will take place on Friday and part of Saturday while the Pro side will take place on Saturday and Sunday. That is the best I can do for the moment but it is all coming together nicely. Just stay tuned for updates.

To everybody else out there that can't make the Vegas trip just come on down. Gas prices are falling so if you are within a few hours of Norfolk it would be a shame to miss out. North and South Carolina will be well represented so it would be a shame if you Yankee's let us win everything by default instead of whipping up on all of you fair and square.

^ I have some friends that live about an hour away. Ill be staying with them, so you remembered right.

Racing on saturday and sunday is good enough guestimate for us. We are just trying to get work lined up while we are away. We can travel friday and monday, so thatll do. Im guessing even though there arent any "pro" events going on friday, the track would be available for testing/tuning. Is this a good assumption (if any assumptions are good :D)? Thanks for the information. Any more specifics will be appreciated, but arent neccesary.

J, I thought I read somewhere you were going to Vegas!? Itll be nice to run with you again if you come here instead. Landon, I was playing around with the idea of going to Vegas, but It's hard to justify spending almost $800 dollars for plane tickets, hotel room, etc. only to race F1 at the PN event.. The only person in our'e club/group that's going to Vegas is vaZracer who's going to try his luck in the F1 class..

I'm still in the process of trying to free up some time in my schedule to make it down to Nekocon so I can run with you guys again.. If I can make this race, we'll definately have to have a "rematch" in the F1 class, it should be fun...

You know you are qualified to run any class you want. If you qualify in any, you can run whatever you want. Thats what Grant told me in PA. He was talking about me coming, and I didnt even finish the F1 race, lol.

Well good luck to VaZ! Id sure like to get to race him again some day too. Hopefully with all the events popping up in the east we can all get together more often. Y'all should make the trip down one weekend to the beach too.

I guess I should quit calling running F1 with you guys again a "rematch", lol. It would have had to have been a match in the first place, haha. I atleast gave y'all some runs in the Qrounds.

See you soon ;)

I'm a little ashamed that I heven't gotten the official schedule posted yet but it will be very soon. I can say that all the practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday so plan on a long day. The official starting time for Sunday's Mains will be based on how long it took to run a round on Saturday times two. I believe the Convention shuts down at Three so we will back into the starting time from there. We will hold a short open practice on Sunday just to finalize set-ups.

We are hoping for at least thirty different drivers. There is no fee to race. You do have to pay the gate for convention entry. I believe that there is still a little time to pre-register for a savings but I think it's only a day or two so don't wait any longer. We would also like for each of you that will attend to post your intent here. You don't have to commit to which classes but it would be really nice to know who is coming. The classes will be ASC, Pan and F-1. All open comp as previously mentioned.

We have prizes and awards from PN and Reflex on the way. A big shout out to Philip Ng, Cristian Tabush and Joe Chen for adding to this event.

The "trophies" will be in the form of a suitable for framing Certificates with all of the three A mains already mounted. First through third.

This is an opportunity to attend and contribute to an event that surely will achieve National status in 2009. Planning for that eventuality has already begun.

Registering is done by buying a mambership for NekoCon11, which can be done at Nekocon's official website.

Pedro, I plan on running all three classes aswell. Im bringing an AWD that Im hoping to run against yours in the ASC class ;) If I can get the steering to start acting right (not using very good electronics :() Ill run my MRCG in pan. Ive got my mod MR02 Ill smack a pan shell on if I have too :D My F1s front end got destroyed in a recent crash. If I cant get it back together Ill steal the front end from my dads car. When you get to the convention, there will be a registration desk and your information will be in the computer system. Bring your paypal receipt just in case, but you should be good to go.

Unfortunately the deadline for pre-registration has passed. You can register at door for the weekend or for the day. At door rates are higher than pre-reg at $45 for the weekend, $30, $35, $25 for Friday Saturday Sunday. Register early next year :)

The next bit of information for the event is logistical. Our fearless leader for the event has managed to procure tables for our use throughout the weekend. The bad news is theres an intergalactic shortage of personal docking devices. Chairs. you will need your own personal sitable. It would probably also be wise to have it marked for identification should it decide to involve itself in some of the other entertainment that will going on around us. Not that it is a concern but if it happens good luck saying the person wearing the costume took it.

A few posts back I mentioned the possibility of another prize source for the race. It has come through. So to all of you fan's of 1/1 scale circle burning I am proud to announce the participation of Joe Gibb's Racing. Team owner for Kyle, Denny, Joey, Tony and likely a couple others. There should be some shirts and hats and I'm not sure what else. The hits just keep on coming and in this case it's a good thing.

At lunch today we got a couple of shots of one of the Pan car entries pre paint application. Just a taste of things to come. Eat your heart out Yasuji.

The actual race schedule(guideline) will be posted tomorrow. I promise. Stay tuned.

Ok... 99.9% sure I'll be there now! Just booked my room, but the Embassy was packed so I ended up at the Comfort across the way. Now I'm trying to find the scenic way there and Mapquest is telling me I can cut about a half hour by going down through Delaware instead of heading around DC... any pitfalls I should know about if I go the DE route? I'd basically be going through the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel, then cutting North along 64.

I'm going this route because when we go to Blue Diamond racetrack down that way, it's a heck of alot faster in the early AM... and I plan to trim an extra 45 minutes from the Mapquest time quote.

Also... I can bring my Core, some track and a screen projector if needed. I plan to get there around 10am on Sat. morning and roll-out at closing on Sunday night. LMK

Ed, Bring what you would like. We have a complete back up system. The one I got from the Gasman and the computer he helped me set up. The overhead deal sounds interesting though. I am finally going to learn something about the system. We have the necessary track for the layout but some additional inside pieces would be outstanding. There are a couple of areas that might enjoy being widened. I'll PM you a cell phone number so you can touch base when you get close. A little help schlepping things in can be arranged.

I will actually have the schedule up tomorrow right after lunch so stay tuned.

Compared to the carnage that is I-95 between DC and Richmond What is twenty bucks.

There was once an armed conflict that took place across that same strip of ground. After having traversed that stretch frequently over a seven year span it seems that the conflict continues.

We are going to be running multiple events at the same time during part of Saturday but for the most part it won't interfere with the part of the event that we are all coming for.

The amatuer portion will be taking place on it's own up until 12:00 on Saturday. That portion of the track will be open to the Pro's at the same time but giving priority to the AM's. At !:00 the whole track opens for Pro practice for one hour. Then it will go back to the AM's for an hour Then back to the Pro's. We will work back and forth between groups until 5:00. There will be a dinner break and at 6:00 we will start Pro qualifying and run two complete rounds. Time allowing we will run a third round then secure for the evening

On Sunday morning we will start at 9:00 with a 30 minute final practice then hand out the Amatuer awards and start the Pro mains. Hopefully this will be by 10:00. We are hoping for 3 mains in each group with 10 minute mains. That's 90 minutes a round plus the time between races and rounds that puts us completed at nearly 3:00 without a lunch break. I haven't confirmed it yet but I believe the Convention ends at 3:00. We would like to be done with the Pro awards handed out with everything and everybody packed up by that time.

There may be additional practice time on Saturday depending on what the AM's are doing other than racing. After all it is an Anime convention. We may gain time on the mains if the turn out is less than expected. Don't party to much on Saturday night just in case of an earlier start.

In previous posts there has been a picture of the track and a mention of prize providers as well the rule. Yes, there is only one. Have fun. See everybody there. Stay tuned, there could be more information posted if it comes up. In the mean time go ahead and post pictures of the creations that you plan to spring on the rest of us.

By this time next Sunday we will all be on our way home from Nekocon 11.
While it is still 5 days away and the excitement is building I am comfortable in saying the event will be an unqualified success. Everything has come together nicely and I want to thank everybody for their efforts in advance. We have gotten real nice prize packages from Both PN an Reflex with additional gifts from Joe Gibb's Racing. The only thing left to do is pack up and make the trip.

I would still like to see more input from those that are planning on attending. Let's get those names posted with some teaser photo's of what you are planning to unveil on the other unsuspecting racers.

See everybody there.

Its been way too long since I have been on the forums. Grad school will do that to you I guess. No time for much else. Anyway I am super excited about all the people showing up for this. Been getting the general prep done today, rounding up track and ordering spare parts and what not. I havent raced in a while but when I have I havent been too awful so hopefully I will be able to be less of a speed bump on the pro track this year. Arch, it will be good to see you and spoon again. Any word on Byebye? Were we able to convince him to come out or is he on deploy/ duty? Anyway, great to see the enthusiasm and turn out. You guys are awesome. See you there!

What? no more Lancia body? just kidding, the last time you ran with us in D.C. weren't you running one of the JGTC R-34 Skyline bodies? Any tech regulations for these races? I'm all for the 70turn Stock class, and the anything goes Mod class (except lipos). Also for mixing AWD and 2WD classes too.

My cars are pretty much all open fets now, I do have one or two 3010 cars left yet though (I lost track :o), but I think we're all pretty much down the same road now. Sorry if I missed any regs in an earlier post, but I looked and couldn't seem to find any.

In a group of several thousand there will always be a menace, but for the overwhelming majority these are good kids. Enthusiastic and hyper, but good kids. They have a lot of energy, and most of them know how to focus it constructively. All those costumes in that video? Almost all of them were made by the person wearing it. Not bought off a shelf or a halloween shop, but stitched together with sewing machine and thimble. Give them a chance and they just might suprise you :) I've been staffing for... Oh my god... seven years and I'm not cynical yet.

Trophey sounds awesome, can't wait to see it!

OK. Here is the scoop as I have it on the piece that will be the TQ trophy for the event.

The piece is a carbon fiber end plate from a Newman-Haas Lola Indy car driven by Michael Andretti during the 1996 C.A.R.T season. I beleive it is from a road course car from the wing angle that is still visible on the inside of the unit. It shows a significant impact but is still pretty cool to look at. It will make a terrific conversation piece for even the most discerning Z owner operator.

We will find a suitable method for determining TQ to cover the contingency that all participants may not enter every class. In the old, old days it was called an index of performance so as to be fair.

See everybody in just 4 more days.

Three of the cars I'll be running. The 962 in the forefront belongs to Mike, who loaned me this weapon for the race. It's an English slot car body that fit quite nicely on the 2.4 chassis. A Reflex WTF, LCGv4 pod with a "special" side damper package, 14.5 rear wheels and Shinkansen motor should make it fun to run. The red Enzo is my ASC car and the white AWD Enzo is for smacking into Landon. I will be running my F1 as well but it's not photogenic.

I do remember this Bud Light Jaguar, a few years ago now, but not a Bud Light Porsche. Rahal did drive a 962 that's a faint memory in my mind though, was that a Bud Light car or was that Bayside Disposal. Gotta say I would put a Bud Light in a Bayside Disposer, I prefer something a little more "flavorful".

I think the Silk Cut was the European Jag and the Bud Light car was run by Walkenshaw in the States. The F1 engined jag that ran over here a short while, can't remember the model, was a sweet car. I know John Andretti, Wollek and Derek Bell, I think, ran the car at Daytona but can't remember if it went to Lemans.
Rear tire? What year? I think I sat all over the car during those years.

Two days remaining until the NEKOCON event becomes a reality. I am on my way this morning to get everything as ready as possible for the rest of the competitors arrival. The race is a small portion of a much larger event. As well as having a good time for ourselves I hope that all competitors see the larger picture in that this is an opportunity to further participation in our little corner of the RC Hobby by talking it up and answering as many questions as possible to the regular Convention attendee's. Many of the young people that will be there are certainly from up and down the East Coast and by that may be potential "noob's" for all of our individual groups. Take advantage and spread the word. We are all Ambassadors so above all let's act like it.

Don't worry... I've let somewhere around 20 people use the thing so far with no incidents, I'm pretty sure anyone who can drive a Z can handle this thing.

MOTEGI TRACK!

All stuff must be loaded from the front. If you need assistance getting anything inside the building, I'd be happy to help!

Check out the pictures of the setup, the track is great and the setup space is abundant. Plenty of power around. Do work.

I uploaded my pictures. Anyone post up results on the races? I appreciate you guys coming down to race. It was a great time... It could have been better for me if my car wasn't randomly turning left and right. Thanks for loaning me your car Nate. It turned my qualifying from a 17 lap into a 24 on my second try.

all parties should have copies of the core data. i will upload jpg copies and attach pdf copies of the results tomorrow but i'm beat and have to get up early for work tomorrow. i'll upload all my pictures tomorrow as well.

BIG thanks to Nekocon and it's crew for another great event. Never disappoints! HUGE props to actionb and his girl for running the am hours. from expereince, it's lots of work and you guys did an excellent job.

Can't say enough about the job Mike did organizing the event. a few bugs here and there but thats to be expected, far less than last year and no doubt we will have learned even more to make it even better next year!

sad thing is, we have to wait another 12 months to do it again...

btw, did anyone happen to get any general pictures from nekocon? all i got were race related pictures. nothing that really explains or shows others what they are missing in terms of the full experience. it's much more than just racing :)

I'd also like to add in a big thanks to PN racing and Reflex racing for offering prizes for the event!

First let me say to the 7 Cities group, thanks for inviting me to help out with the show. I wish I could have done a better job of it but now that I have the lay of the land and have some of the ground rules established I think I can do better. I would also like to say that it is a real shame that most of you don't get to compete because of your dedication to the NEKOCON Convention itself. Whatever you do, don't let Action B and the extremely lovely and talented Dirty Mex(Maya) get away. They are both incredibly special people that I will hold dear from now on. They are the ones that truly drove the event. Special thanks to Ed for bringing the expansion tiles for the longest straightaway. That changed the complexity of the whole race by allowing for a lot more speed and pucker factor past the drivers stand. Until I get my hands on a complete race run down I will have to hold back on a narrative of all the races. I will say is that since becoming involved in RC in 1981 that I have NEVER seen a race like I saw let alone two between the same drivers in two different classes within 30 minutes. The total elapsed time difference between Hrdrvr and PedroC was less than .7 seconds for both mains with each winning one. PedroC took ASC while Hrdrvr took F-1. It was truly amazing to watch. Not to take away from the performances of the other drivers in the two Mains who by the way did amazing jobs of not hindering the onslought of the leaders. The winner of these particular races was not clearly determined until the last turn of the last lap.

Tomorrow I start a four day road trip driving my wife around her business territory so I will have more time to get into the action that fleshed out the event.

Work has already started on next year. There is absolutely no reason that this isn't a 100 car show. Everybody had a great time both on and off the track so start planning now. I'm told that the convention is always held on the same weekend so it becomes easy to make plans. There are several hotels in the immediate area so accomadations aren't a concern.

If you didn't attend this one you missed some of the greatest competition that I personnaly have ever seen. To miss the next one would truly be a tragedy. For you as well as those of us that won't get meet more of you.

I'd also like to give recognition to mleemor. This event couldn't have been possible without you. We are greatly appreciative of all of your help with both the planning and the running of the event. Furthermore, your experience showed through with your frequency pin-board, registration cards etc. I learned a thing or two from this veteran R/C racer for sure! Been racing longer than I have been alive!

Raymond, I'd also like to thank you for your help with the event. I'm glad you could make it. You were a big help especially with running the core...and lending us batteries and transmitters etc.

I hope we can all race together again sometime soon.

On behalf of the Nekocon staff I would like to thank all of you for coming this year. On behalf of Seven Cities RC I would also like to thank you for taking a chance on us. As a "club" we have been up to the DC area a few times and Ray was nice enough to "adopt" us and help us get our feet under ourselves. We are still kinda green and it was wonderful to have all the help at this event from seasoned vets. It has been nothing but a positive experience dealing with and knowing all the people that we have met in this community and I cant thank you all enough.

Mike, thank you for the bearings and the car stand. Thank you for all the ideas on a pit box lay out and showing me the virtue of the roll cart. Thank you for the great jokes and one-liners. I will make sure that I write in to PN and Reflex. If you could give me the contact names of the specific people I need to talk to again, that would be great.

Ray, as always it was a pleasure to have you down here. Always good to race with you. Thanks again for all those batteries. Now we just need a proper charger if you can suggest one to pick up.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, help, and spare parts. Thanks for the help on the AWD and the demo cars. Im sorry that most of my time was spent in the pits. it would have been really nice to actually meet and talk with you all more extensively. It was quite the chore keeping those demo cars up and moving. Brandon, you and Maya did a great job on this one. I know I give you a lot of crap for being late or *ahem* "distracted" but you two really did help pull this one together.

That all being said, many, many thanks to all of you for your time and contributions. Thank you and here's to next year.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who made this event possible.. I had a great time and will defineately be attending next years Nekocon based on the experiences that I had this year.. I'd like to thank mleemor60 for lending me a Speedy 07 motor so I could run in the ASC class and for selling me a PN pan car body which unfortunately I didn't have the time to setup.. I'd also like to thank Jay for letting me use one of his H-plates so I could run my car in the ASC class.. As far as the racing goes I did have an awesome time racing against hrdrvr, Ed, and Pedro, it was very close and watching Pedro and hrdrvr running in the F1 class was very exciting.. I also wanted to thank Ed and Jay for letting me get some "airtime" with their new micro-heli's, after watching how much fun you guys had with those things I'm tempted to buy one now:)..

My only regret about this event is that I never got the opportunity to get to go drifting with Action B, hrdrvr, and others on the track, maybe next year.. Brandon, the next time you come up to D.C. we need to do some drifting...

I'm up there frequently. I apologize for not being able to find the time. I know there was a little time saturday night but I was too exhausted to really enjoy myself after fridays and saturdays AM event. I will certainly hit you up and we will be able to spend more time chilling out and drifting or whatever. I was also very frustrated with my car as you know. I ran Nate's car for the second qualifier and on sunday for the ASC B main.

Well, it's 2300 hours Monday night and I'm finally getting home. Could probably write something much more cognizant later, but I really need to say a few things right now :)

Mleemor60, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and I can't thank you enough for your help with the event and dinner at Captain Chuck a Muck's.

Arch2b, as always, it was great to see you and I'm disappointed that we didn't get to race together. :p When's the enduro?

Action B, Dirtymex, Soundwave, thank you so much for jumping in and taking care of the attendees. They seemed to have a lot of fun and maybe we'll get a few more hobbyists out of it.

Pedro, thanks for all the help and the prize donations. Way above and beyond!

Everyone who came, thank you so much for coming and promoting the sport. I hope you all had a good time and got a chance to have some fun elsewhere in the convention (if the attendees weren't too scary )

I owe everyone an apology for my absence. I had a lot on my plate going into the convention this year. Thursday morning, I was given even more. What little spare time I had was mostly spent trying to sleep, (for example, I had to drop off people at the airport at 3am, 8am, and 12:30pm today, then unload a truck) though I did get to kill some batteries during the practice runs. I was going to run ASC, but I owed a certain artist dinner and it was the only time we could make it work. Worked out as ActionB needed to use my car :)

I'll be posting some pictures soon :D

I'm alive... waterpump held together for the 6 hour trip home!... and then, to top it off, I get it in the garage and there is no leak whatsoever?!?! I'm prolly gonna jinx it here for my commute tomorrow, but I've never seen a leak just go away on it's own... the radiator is still full from my last highway pull-over, and I know the engine has coolant in it too because I have heat and the gauge is working just fine. When I stopped for directions to the place, it was pouring out down the front of the block from the bottom of the pump... now it's gone?...

So... special thanks to whichever powerful trans-dimensional being fixed my pump and allowed me to get home!

As far as the event goes... excellent! A little shaky at the start, but once it got rolling everything went smoothly! Thanks to all who had a part in this, I'm sorry I wasn't more helpful in some ways but I wanted to use this as kind of a break from running events, and just trying to drive. Unfortunately... trying to drive was my only issue! I couldn't find a setup for the life of me and forgetting to bring my F1 gear was a huge mistake. Thanks to Landon and Jeremy for hooking me up with some parts to get me running at least around the outside of the ballpark. I certainly now know for sure that low traction tracks are my kryptonite... I'm so pampered with my high traction at home, it ruins me when I get to some other tracks. I was changing tires left and right but never found ones that worked well! Live and learn I guess!

So, awesome event... hope to see you guys all again in the near future. I will be down for the next one for sure! Thanks for everything!

Had a great time! The event was great. The track was great. Prizes where cool. Thanks Kenon, Reflex, Joe Gibbs Racing, Nekocon, Mike, Pedro, Seven Cities Crew and every one involved. The best thing for me was putting faces to the names and hanging with friends met at past events and other tracks. To anyone who has not had the opportunity to travel to events outside of your area I highly recomend it. The commaradarie (hope I spelled that right) of the Mini-Z community makes it really cool. Every one is helpful, friendly and respectfull to one another. Can't wait till the next big event. Thanks for the tires Landon. Jeremy where can I pick up some of those drift tires, thanks for letting me try them out. Oh yeah thanks for the software Ed. Arch the tylenol saved my life! I hope I can beat you next time!:)

My feelings are the same with every one elses. I eally had a great time! The effort put forward by the guys behind the scenes really showed through on this one. You guys had a few hick-ups and bounced back and moved on from them very well. I think the information you guys learned from this event will really make the next coming years special. Barring any scheduling conflicts, I dont see any reason not to attend this event next year :D

Jay, Pedro, Jeremy, Ed, Earl, Mike, it was good to see all of you again. Arch, Brandon, Mike, Nate, it was good to meet you guys. Most of y'all were too busy for too much converstaion, but Im still glad I got to meet you guys. Its always great to put faces with names. Next time we get together, maybe there will be more time for bench racing and what not.

Pedro, the racing was totally insane, and I had a blast running with you in the mains. That was the most intense 20 minutes (F1 and ASC) of racing Ive ever been involved in. I know youve been in a lot of tense racing situations, so you probably understand where Im coming from. Those battles really made all of the effort I put into racing worth it!

Jeremy, I had tons of fun running with you too. We had some great times in the practice sessions and some good runs in the mains. I still cant get passed the fact you were out running my pan car, and hanging with my AWD with a dang mini van. I wish your motor wouldnt have crapped out, so you could have run the main with it.

I started working on a mini blog for the event. Ill get it posted when I get the first installment done. Its just a recap of the weekend from my perspective :D

Ive also got the DVDs with the vidoes here at work with me. I should be able to squeeze some time in to get them uploaded and posted soon. I havent had a chance to check them out. I hope the perspective shows some of the great racing that went on!

mike,
core results can be found at
c:\program files\corespeedway\data\nekocon f1 and nekocon asc and nekocon pan car

check to see if you have the files for the mains and if not i'll have to have nate/mike zip/emial them to me.

lets try to plan more social time into the program next year too ;) maybe a group dinner or something.

i'm going to try to get brandon back into practicing so maybe he can jump in on asc next year as well. i think i'm going to sell his awd and get him a racer though. he breaks too many parts with the awd.

I bet at no other race do you have a banana and a ninja superhero teddy bear as spectators!

It was great fun. Zak and I want to thank all the organizers who did a great job, especially organizing the amateur portion. That is a great idea and should be a part of other events, maybe get more racers interested in our little niche of the hobby. I thought the young oriental boy that won a car was great. If the event introduced him to a hobby he will enjoy we did our job. Next year he might come back and smoke us all!

It was great to meet Ray, Young Brandon, Ed, Jeremy, Mike, Brandon, Maya, and Nate. All really nice people and fast racers. In the sometimes impersonal world of the internet it is nice to finally meet the person behind the screen name.

Great to see the SC crew again. We had a blast racing with you guys again. I will always remember those races, Landon. It's those kind of runs that make these little cars so much fun.

Thanks to PN and Reflex for the prize donations. We took home a few goodies. Both great companies that really support the hobby, and they make really nice stuff!

Thanks to Mike and Martha for the nice trophies. Had to fight some tough competition for them. Who said all the good guys were in Vegas? Look forward to next year!

Kudos to Brandon and Maya for all the efforts they put in with the amateurs, there was a lot of pateince shown, great job!!!!!!
There was a lot of good action in the A mains and from my take on the B mains, we had a lot of intensity and fun there also, I look forward to seeing a lot of you in the near future.
Thanks go out to PN Racing, Reflex Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing for the great gifts.

Now that I have learned the "secret handshake" and gotten past a somewhat irrational fear of spending three days in what seemed like the bar scene in the original "Star Wars" movie (but on steroids) I vow to have eliminated all the glitches that tripped us this year. Not that there won't be new ones but Raymond and I are already in discussion on improvements and streamlining for next year.

If you are east of the Mississippi and considering getting out of the hobby, don't. When this event rolls around next year your decision to stay involved wil bear fruit if you attend. If you are west of the "Big Muddy" start now recycling cans, mowing lawns, babysitting, boosting cars, what ever it takes. Plan for it. It will be the event of a lifetime. Besides, most of the California guys will probably find the costumed contingent as normal left coast street garb. Seriously though, this type of event and format will be a big part of the future for our hobby. It puts us in front of the highly disguised demographic group that the larger companies are trying to reach. We get them for free and don't have to share. Think about it and start planning for early November next year.

The results and the videos dont do justice to the closeness of the two races between Pedro and I, IMO. I guess it may be because I was holding the Tx, but they were WAY more tense in person than 2 seconds, lol.

Either way, thanks for psting up the results Arch. Here are the videos to go along with them. I missed the formula1 B main (first of the day), and the battery crapped out on the pan A main (last one of the day).

Here are the rest though, in the order in which they were run.

Formula1 A main
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O2Jib-Hnng

ASC C main (missed the statr buzzer, but this was the first lap)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-APA1pgxWc

ASC B main
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLM4Q2RM0Vo

ASC A main
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kupjqd-XIzk

Pan B main
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tywgRwjLN2Q

I wish I didnt miss the pan A main. Jeremy ran a practically flawless run and out-paced the rest of us by a pretty good bit. Ed ran a solid race too, and Pedro and I never even really contested him for his second position.

If any of you guys feel like making the run down to SC for the saturday after thanksgiving we are hosting a little race. Its starting to look like we are going to have a pretty good crowd.
