SCSI and I were the first ones here and more and more locals are comming aboard. Just started talking story with The Thunderer, from Hilo, the other day. Hes pretty cool.
Know what's funny, most of the LHS's are not really hot about the Mini. I go in most shops and ask for mini z stuff and they look at me like im crazy and tell me that it's a FAD. Yeah Right!

hey hey!
a couple of my buddies at work just got me into the mini-z. ive had mine for about a week now. actually, one of my co-workers is debating if he should get one and if it should be a car or F1. He just posted a question in the "beginner questions" forum. go and tell him to get one! hehe.
we are in Honolulu (McCully to be exact) looking for a track!

Hey
I'm from Hawaii...on the island of Oahu (Leeward side). What you've heard about The Hobby Company is true! The RC shop owner said it will be done sometime during the summer. I've seen an add too in the Pearlridge magazine that they have in the mall. They call it the Mini-Z slam racing.
See you guys at the tracks!

Real_dvs: THAT IS AWESOME!!! When I fly over (which I do often), I'll bring my Z's! Tooo KEWL!
ViperKid: Maybe they can make a true bridge to the mainland (or for you - to Hawaii) and then add a small lane for our Z's to give us something to do for the 2000+ mile trip!!! LOL.

I just went to Hobby company today just to see what new parts (if any) they have. Still the same stuff. The track hasn't been built yet. But it seems like they're getting ready. They're cleaning/moving their items to make room for the track. I'll keep you guys posted.

just went to hobby co. today. they had the track there, on its side, resting on the back wall. the guy there said they ran it once last week and should have another race soon. its about 12' x 12', i think. couldnt really see the track surface, since it was up against the wall.
Did anyone attend/ participate in that race?

Apparently, I'm missing the Codec... I can't see the video.... Can anyone help?
slo-mo-dena
2002.06.12, 05:16 AM
i couldnt really see the actually layout of the track, since it was up against the wall. the overall size of it is about 12' x 12'. its constructed on a 2x4 wood frame.
from what the worker there told us, it has only been used once. he advised us to talk to the manager to find out when the next race would be. i guess they clear out the shelves in the back to make room for the track.
regarding the codec, i think its in divx format and you can get the codec at divx.com .

Thanks! It worked like a CHARM! Kewl Track. When I did my indoor one, I forgot the most important thing... SIMPLICITY. Doing that, I made it pretty intricate and therefore impossible to navigate. That, in turn, made it so NOT FUN!
Thanks for the reminder!!!! BTW, what is the lane width of the track?
slo-mo-dena
2002.06.12, 03:00 PM
you mean the lane width of that track in the video?
the overall size is about 10.5' x 27'. i think the lanes are about 24" or more wide. we are still designing the thing; the video is just a "study model". damn architects like to design and re-design: )

What parts does Sandy Flemmings sell? Anything other than kyosho? Anything worth buying?
slo-mo-dena
2002.06.13, 04:29 AM
Sandy Flemmings parts selection was very minimal and all Kyosho (I think). They had quite a few ready-sets, including F-1's, which were priced relatively cheap. Flemming's parts selection is worse than Hobby Co's.
Hey, I forgot to mention Hobbitat in Kaimuki. Never check out their stuff, but heard they had some mini-z stuff.

slo-mo-dena
2002.06.13, 05:21 AM
I hope no one from Hobby Co. is reading this! hehe.
well, Hobby Co. had the ready sets for $219.
the same sets were either $149 or $159 at Flemmings. not sure why there's 2 prices. I think the F-1's at Flemmings were $189.
I didnt want to stomp on Hobby Co's business, but the people must know!

When i talked to one of the workers at Hobby Co. he said that their ready sets were on sale for a while at $169 or something like that.... dunno if the sale is still on or not. They do have a wide selection of ready sets though. buy i think it is cheaper to order online (ebay) here where ever, even with the shipping. unless you're one of those people who have to have it now.

according to the guy i talked to at hobby co. he said that the msrp is $219. he said that most lhs sell it at this price if they stock their items from the north american distributer. he said that the distributer strongly suggest (more like forcefully tells them) to sell it at this price line. but i forget what the company's name is, they run the www.kyosho.com webpage (english version). but he said that the places that sell for $100 or lower import from china/hong kong. He said that there really isn't anything different between the two. he told me to buy it online. anyways, thats what i heard.

2002.06.17, 12:51 PM
Yeah, I drove the track. One of the workers there let me use his mini-z. It's a hard track...not built for really fast cars because of all the turns...and I mean a lot of turns. Also, the width of the track also makes driving hard. If you place two mini-zs side by side, that's the width of the lane!!!!! I'd say 90% of the track is that way. The other 10% I'd say 3-4 mini-zs side by side. No wonder they call it mini-z slam racing in the pearlridge magazine. I'd use a busted up car and not one of the "show cars" if I were you.
I can't take any pics 'cause I don't have a digital camera.

Wassup Brah. Not to jump on in to your conversation, but the headline says "Who's from Hawaii?", well I'm orginally from Pearl City. Just wanted to say high and that I wish I was back home, especially since no one up here is into the Mini-z's, plus the food fricken sucks-no Zippy's, no L-n-L's, no poke...nothing. Oh well, price to pay for moving to Utah. Nice to see some local guys from back home on here.

Not a problem, I got a brand new Porsche(yellow) with a couple of decals on it just waiting to get all scruft up. I really need to practice up a little, because there isn't anyone around here to trip with. Except my boy(also from back home), but he gotta get his own Mini-Z if he wants to play, because if anybody is gonna screw up my toys it's gonna be me. Granted if I race someone else they'll most likely jack my stuff up when they slam into me and I'm cool with that, but to get it all beat to hell by my other R/C car aint gonna happen. Oh well, I bought the Porsche with the intent that I was gonna bang it around and save my other bodies for partial display and some fun runs. To bad they don't make more Hondas, especially THE ALMIGHTY CRIX, my personal favorite(I'm sure not everyones). I'm not sure when I'll be able to go back home, you know work and all, but hopefully soon. Again, glad to see as much Hawaii boys on here as it is.

Wow my original post was meant to see who else was out there.
Seems like there are lots of you. Let's keep this post going and maybe Mini Z will give us our own section. Hawaii No Ka Oi!
Hobby Company Track Info! I was talking to someone there the other day and he said that they set up the track on the weekends from Friday afternoon thru Sunday and maybe even Monday if there are no deliveries.
The Track is at the very rear of the store and is usually leaning on the back wall. They guy I spoke to was a older Japanese guy with glasses. He was pretty cool and I had a good discussion with him. Didn't get his name though.
Anyways he said that since the track isn't busy anyone can race as long as they like but if it gets to the point that there are others waiting to run they might set up a time limit system.
He said even someone from Sandy Flemming comes to run on their track.
I'm trying to get my friends into this too. We're all 1:1 scale racers doing SCCA Solo 2 so we like to compete.
I forgot about Hypersports I know the Decal(Advance Graphics) guy runs the RC stuff.
Does anyone know where I can get a skeleton chassis in clear and blue anywhere on this island?

I'm trying to get Cliffie to get into the Mini Z's. He has a friend who lives in Mauka that has a nice new garage to race in.

cut the firewall. dynamat. all good.
yep, a few of my friends are helping me with it. already ordered a ton of battle version stuff from alex who is supposed to choose my motor for me. diff is coming from japan. haha. ryan's s14. it is too sad.
yeah, i am waiting for my s2000 body to come in because i don't want to have my MB emblem geting ripped off. we actually race 5-7 micro rs4's at my friends house or my workplace about 3-4 times a week ( two 60' hoses make awesome tracks). my mini-z is fun though for being stock. it makes a skipping noise when racing. oh well. another person has a mizi z and was into it for a long time too. his car is crazy fast. it pulls on my (stock motor)micro at the top. i kinda like the mini because it is durable.

who's alex??
Know anyone selling a coilover suspension for Hachi?
Looking to setup the car for Grip
What does your look like? Got it cheap? SR5 or GTS? Coupe or Hatch? Tercel motor or 4AG? I wouldn't mind another 4AG to build up.
Man, you are spending BIG BUCKS on it already.
Just for the drift? Isn't 5-0 picking on you guys. Ryan was worried about all the publicity.
Mini Z drift session????
I modded my stock Mini Z diff but now it seems to plow but cannot spin the wheels. Time to get a Mod motor.
I wanted to get a Micro but decided to invest more into my Mini.
Send me a pic of your car

i wanna try, but i also saw 2 videos of micros drifting. here are the links
www.team-orion.co.jp/hpi/yodo.mov
www.team-orion.co.jp/hpi/yoshioka.mov
you gotta see these.
if anyone has drift mini-z vids i wanna see them. i am not sure how to hold speed with the 2wd. the 4wd can pull the back around as seen in the vids above.
anyways, alex makes the battle version parts sold at club4ag.
yep, drift session at my workplace with the smooth concrete. i just got in some stuff for my mini-z about an hour ago. i got my gpm ball diff (titanium shaft is damn light!!!), turbo v2, blue chassis, gpm h plates and a x-speed (new version). these will be my first mods. i gotta get tires asap.
the 5-0. yeah, they are harassing everyone. not to worry, my car will be kinda low key. just some plain looking watanabe 14's or something. i got brand new 16" gabs, but they are too big and wide.
yeah, i'll post pics of my mini-z and micro at my site sometime, and my real play car will be in the main section of the endless site. b

i also got a tamiya speed checker. i want to make it usable for both my mini and micro. just gotta make it length selectable, just like changing the length of the mini-z chassis. i got some extra sheetmetal.
i'll post results. b

mni-z (gpm diff, bearings and stock motor w/ 6T pinion. 17 km/hr
mini-z (same as above, but w/ x speed and 9T pinion. 25-26 km/hr
pretty good gain just from putting in a new motor.
as always, i always gotta open stuff, so i opened the speec checker and found that it measures the rear wheels only. only the mid/rear roller is hooked up. yay, that means i can hang my micro off the edge and still check the speed. the fastest i could spin the rollers was 7 km/hr with my fingers!!
now i have to throw my v2 turbo on and see how that goes. i can tell that my stock motor mount is going to have a meltdown. b

Those vids are kewl!
Gab's? I though you are on the low down? Aren't they red? What size are they? Maybe you want to run flares. N2, Jubiride, they all look good.
Please put some pics of your mini on here or on your site. Wanna see all of the trick stuff you have on your car. Man you are starting to give me mod fever.
Need some coilovers for my Hachi so must refrain for now.
Need a raise in pay so I can buy more Toys.

yeah, i'll post mini-z pics when i get a chance. the mods aren't spectacular or anything. just basic stuff. BUT I love the clear blue chassis i got. get a clear chassis. the green must be nice too. my rear diff was supposed to be blue, but ended up being purple. it actually goes with the car though. maybe a purple alum peice on the front somewhere would make it perfect. hmmm. arm or bulkhead.
damn. this x speed motor makes everything hot with the 9T pinion. i predict a meltdown of the motor case tonight.
hey, we are racing tonight at about 8pm in town. give me a ring if you wanna go. there will be my friend with the fast mini there.

I made one a while ago, it's on my site. Click the link in my signature, then on my site go to videos...you should see it listed on that page somewhere. Sorry for the slow download time, my DSL has no upload bandwidth at all!!

How's your 7AGE project going???
My coworker just got a 95 AE101 with the 4AFE engine. He already bought Tein Coilovers for the car. I got him hooked on Autocross and now he is spending big bucks on his car.
About the same as when we last talked :) Hard to find that cylinder head at a good price. I could just go to the local toyota dealer & pay $700 for just the head
My corolla is the only one I've seen with a manual transmission. All the other ones, my body style & newer, are all automatics...I guess I got lucky, kinda, sorta, in a way...

Can't log on to your server anymore to see the pics but is your car a DX or LE
My co worker had to get a base model to get a stick.
I just saw a 4AGE head on ebay for cheap. Do a search on AE86. The location was NY. Not to sure how far from where you live(didn't pay much attention during Geography class) but at least it's not in Hawaii
The pics are still there.

It's neither, it's the basemodel with the 7AFE engine. No power locks, no power windows, the radio it came with was just that, a radio & 2 front speakers. It does have AC though!!! LOL

How did you get that setup???? I thought all bases came with the 4AFE
I don't have a clue, but you're right...the base models do come with the 4AFE. My dad must have had them do it when he bought the car new because I know it's never had an engine swap.

after the address. it was not supposed to be there. dammit, i just ordered a silver ae86 body because it has black wats. BTW, i think i am getting a set of reverse mesh ssrs and WATS!!!!
last night was fun. there was a giant roack, so we got some packing tape and added it to its back, so it looked like apeice of tape running around. pretty fun obstacle when 7 cars are going. b
ps i hooked up my turbo v2, so i'll let you know how it is later. b
ps. i hope it is wired right. it seems that the original wires from the esc to the motor must be removed. i gotta check on this.

BTW how big are the Gabs???? Your talking about the red ones right? Do they make more than one type of rim?
bdreeft
2002.06.29, 08:31 AM
the gabs were 16x8's. my friend picked them up already and is going to have them painted.
yeah, on the mini-z they all seem to have black wats. the picture of the silver one looked like it was a flat black vs a shiny one. anyways,i don't expect it to look nice for long. b

i tried out my turbo v2 today with my xspeed on the speedchecker. 27 km/hr. withou , it was 25.5 km/hr. i think i can use a bigger pinion as it easily turns the motor right now. the car didn't get hot and nothing fried!! it was undriveable though in many parts and i would only recommend it if you have a huge good grip parking lot or space. otherwise it is a waste. it has MAD torque though. b

hey bdreeft where did you get your turbo and how much?
bdreeft

i got it because the v2 seemed to be a turbo that no one complained about. mine works fine. just the wires are mixed up from the factory. b
