Hi Bermbuster. The oval is concrete with BLACK mortar layed on top of it. Dave Graboski stopped by yesterday and drove one of the rental cars (ASF Rothmans Porcshe) that was completely BONE stock, even the tires that came with the car was stock.... he was able to click off laps under 4 seconds. The grip is very good to say the least even with stock tires and no suspension tweaking involved. The track measures 38' x 18". We will open the doors @ 10am on Saturday, please bring your own tables, chairs and extension chords. Below are some early pics, the store has WAY more stock and is currently OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!

Hey Drew,
The track is really a lot of fun. I was really surprised with how much traction the track produced. I havent had a chance to try my own Z's on it but did get to wheel a slider around there. Open wheel with more then 3 cars would be tough to race with but man was it FASSSSSSSTTT!!! The car almost wheelies on exit and the tires squeel going in....Maybe the WEDGE body on the slider would be better to race with. I am pushing for a Micro T wedge class as well. As far as the safer walls, the painted wood is neat because its slippery and easily rideable, they dont sucked you in thats for sure. See you on Saturday....
BTW: Lap counter and RCP has been ordered. :P

Will you always have to bring your own pit tables and electricity or will that eventually be provided by the shop?

THe oval is staying as is, the infield is what is going to be RCP. The oval will have a cutout so that you can duck into the infield.

I think the shop is open until 6 on SAT, but I have a feeling that we will not be turning people away from running if that is the case. So more then likely we will be there later. I will have the store owners come on and state a definitive answer.
I will be there for sure, from 12pm on....so feel free to bring me a body I will do it up for you. :)

We ordered the RCKENON system, the concrete track is actually not the racing surface the surface itself is actually black morter. The RCP should be here by 2morrow and will be laid on the infield shortly....

Hmm
RCP on the infield only... What about the oval? and the walls of the oval? At least the wall of the oval for some much needed protection according to what I see in the pictures. Also, I think most would prefer RCP all-around, to keep things consistent.
Davey G

Softer walls were put in place lastnite and definitly limited the amount of breakage. For now the oval is going to stay as is and the infield only will be covered in RCP. We are thinking about laying down VHT or some other traction addative to the oval to aid in traction. Grape soda is very popular on outdoor tracks but this is an indoor permanent track that CANT attract bugs, etc.
Lastnight once again was an awesome turnout, 5 heats total for just the oval, it was a verrry exciting night of racing!

Make sure to get there early 2morrow night before racing in order to get your transponder harness wired in. Its not big deal for the miniz'er. Just remove 2 screws, place harness eyelet over screw, and re-tighten screw back up. You will need to add a piece of velcro to the top of your chassis as well. No big deal at all. See you there!!!

Looks good Dave. I need to get out there sometime... How is the grip comparison from the infield to the baned oval? Looks like it might be tough to get a good setup going, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, as that is half the fun of racing; being inventive with the setup.
I look forward to racing with you again, its been too long :(

I was running it a bit while they were playing with the setup using my nascar MR-015
stock nascar tires really hookup in the infield but slide on the oval and the high grip tires hook on the oval but slide on the infeild.
so yeah... setup will be fun...

There is a ton of traction on the oval and the transition from the Oval to the RCP is not all that abrupt. Willy Wong stopped by tonight as well and LOVED IT.... Enjoy the video!!!

Both the oval and the roadcoarse classes are open at this point. Exceptions though are must use hard plastic bodies, rubber tires and tires but not exceed the width of the wheelwells. Thanks for the compliment, hope to see you soon!

Nice lap Davey G. I notice no RCP borders on the outside wall of the oval and could not tell if there is RCP borders on the inside wall of the oval. If that is true, it wont take much to destroy an autoscale body. Please RCP those borders... and while your at it RCP the rest of the oval :D
I like having a harder board on the oval. The cars will be much less likely to get sucked into the boards, spun and plowed into by other drivers. If anything, put a thin foam with lexan. So the cars will slide if grazed, but the harder impacts would not be as damaging as a concrete or wood border if hit at a more direct angle.
I dont like to run Autoscale bodies anyway. Too fragile. The white bodies, are much better on impacts, and you can custom paint them to make the car more original ;) If the body is available in both ASC and unpainted form, I allways go with the unpainted.

Softwalls on the inner perimeter of the oval for now only, the outter perimeter has a hard rubber mounted to the wood
RCP costs $$$$, slowly but surely we are getting there. The owners have stated that the entire track will be RCP soon enough!!! So when are you stopping by??

The soft walls are on the inside perimeter of the oval and yes...they suck you in... UGH!!:( The original painted wood I liked better due to being able to ride them and not get too messed up. But the soft walls are more friendly for beginners.

to let everyone now, i been to this track two times and had so much fun, The Oval track racing is even fun, but how dave hook up the infield for RCP , the transition to the Oval to infield is GREAT , you just need to get the right set-up for your driving. For me i am setting up a mr-02 for the infield and 015 for the Oval.

Hi Davey
Ive stopped by twice already and the second time I actually tried the oval. It was before you guys put the new material on the oval and added the RCP in the infield. My racing is limited to once every other week. I may throw in some practice here and there to increase that number :D. When are you usually there?

The oval surface is definitely stickier then when we first opened. Argueably the oval has more grip then the RCP infield. Hey Guys,
A few drivers stopped by on Tuesday for open practice on the oval, these guys have really stepped up there game. Hot Wheels Hobby will have there very own NASCAR tire very shortly. Testing has shown that this tire produces tons of rear bite without premature tire wear. We will have a few sets for people to try in practice tonight. More sets should be available next week.
For all of you ROADCOARSE guys, the RCP infield is officially complete. Check out the layout for tonight!

Can you provide some enlightenment about the Giro Z transponders?
How much is the pigtail?
How do you fasten the transponder?
Does it work on all bodies or most???
do you take it out after each race? (share)
or does each car get one for the night of racing?
thanks

How much is the pigtail? - About $4.00, no soldering required.
How do you fasten the transponder? - Velcro (track supplies this)
Does it work on all bodies or most???- All bodies that have smoked or clear windows
do you take it out after each race? (share)
or does each car get one for the night of racing? - So far we have let the drivers keep the transponders in there cars the whole night. We have 24 different transponders, so far we have not had to have people share or return them after there run.
See you soon BERM!!

Well, I tried the track, I was suprised by the amount of grip the oval has. Its a bit bumpy but the cars stayed planted and the transition is not that abrupt. The angle of transiton is a little sharp but thats ok. I am still partial to the RCP, but this traction substance(forgot the name of it) works well.

Hey Tommy
Yeah your right, you just have to drive it. I was just mentioning a few things that driver need to expect if they come and run on the track. I also forgot to mention if anyone uses a longer than stock antenna (like guitar or piano wire) It may hit the lap counter sensor. Putting the sensor 15 to 20 inches from the track would help, if that distance don't effect the signal between the sensor and transponder. Besides those two things, the track will be very fast on the oval and technical on the infield.

i am using the stock antenna for my 015 nascar and i can say i may have got hit 2 times ever, I think the Oval is the most fun, and for anyone coming in and racing at this track, I am the one to beat on the Oval track, But do not forget i use to race bigger cars,:D you know what i do like to see every Nascar mini-z drive every laps like Bristol Motor Speedway.it would be cool to see like 4 cars on the same lap.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal racers that have been coming to our new facility. Lastnight was an awesome turnout with a total of 18 racers for the NASCAR oval class. Tommy Lane once again set the pace in qualifying but broke in the main. Both the TQ and the winner of the A-main used Hot Wheels Hobby "M" compound 3 groove tires. 4 out of the 6 A main drivers used these tires.
Do you think we should race OVAL on one night and Roadcoarse on another night? The Thursday night crowd seems to be the oval crew. Do you Thursday nighters want to run roadcoarse on the same night as well? Please let us know.
When filling out the drivers registration form on the night of racing, please make sure to list your e-mail address. We want to start e-mailing specials, upcoming events, rules and race stats.
Thanks again for supporting Hot Wheels RC Hobby Center!!!

Since we have yet to have enough people for roadcoarse action we have decided to race the nascars on the roadcoarse tomorrow (thursday) night. The MR02/Roadcoarse specific cars will run in there own class so that there is not a HUGE advantage verse the nascar style cars. This should make for a real exciting night!!! See you 2morrow!

Thank you all once again for coming out lastnite, it was an AWESOME turnout once again for such a new facility. The spectators and turn marshalls really got into lastnites racing and the cheers and excitement was felt throughout the building.
It seemed as if we twisted many drivers arms by pushing the roadcoarse on them, but at the end of the night, all drivers said how much fun it was and they cant wait to come back during the week for practice to hone there roadcoarse skills.
HIGHLIGHTS from lastnite:
- Tommy Lane hitting a 3.2 second lap on the oval
- Bob Van Hoesen making the A main for the 1st time
- Lots of ladies were in the house... hubba hubba
- TONS OF SPECTATORS
- Jack wheeling his Nascar around the roadcoarse like a veteran (finished 2nd)
- Leo showing us his gymnastic skills
Thanks again for supporting our new facility!!!

That was great racing last night! The road course worked out well too. Now I just have to buy a second car so that Eric and I are competitive. Hopefully in the coming weeks Dave can post in here about how well we did.... in addition to my ability to leap a Mini-Z race wall in a single bound :D

Once again another awesome turnout for Thursday night racing. Willy Wong won the roadcoarse portion while Tommy Lane won the oval. Tommy won the Nascar mini z giveaway but is making a "Tommy Lane Edition" replica to give away on the June 19th Thursday night of racing. The complimentary food was a big hit too, thanks to Bob for his awesome "grille" work.

Thank you all for making lastnites race night run so smooth. We once again had 14 drivers for oval as well as a good turnout for roadcoarse and we were able to be finished well before 10pm. What did you think of Dave's soundbytes during race announcing? We are trying to make our facility more fun and family friendly, hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
Monday nights we are kicking off "kids night". Kids night will be for kids from 6-12 yrs of age. No need for any equipment, Hot Wheels Hobby will provide everything needed. Think of it as a birthday party setup minus the cake and pizza. :)

Thank you all for coming out once again for a great night of MINI Z racing. Lastnight we gave away a NASCAR Mini Z with all the major hopups already installed by Oval Ace Tommy Lane. The way it worked was, the top 4 qualifiers automatically made it to the Shoot out for the NASCAR mini Z. The winner of the C main bumped into the shootout as well as the winner of the B main. All 6 drivers were now ready to throw down for the BIG RACE. But as always, we threw a wrench into the situation. All racers who qualified for the shootout were allowed to use there own batteries but HAD to use our own store NASCAR Rental Cars for the MAIN. After the smoke had cleared JIM GRUZECKI (yesterday was JIM's 28th birthday as well) had won the shootout over Bob Martineau by 3 laps. Congratulations JIM and all who qualified. Not only did we give a car away but again had a barbecue out back and all for was provided free of charge. We had a record turnout again this week with 25 entries....

We decided to make a VERY minor change to the roadcoarse layout for this Thursday. Instead of having to slam the breaks coming off the oval into the infield we radiused the first turn and it way easier, the chicane is gone as well. Pics will be posted 2nite!

HI Kevin,
There is NOT one true hot setup, as far as the hopups its the usual stuff, stainless kingpins, aluminum nascar pod, ball diff, dampner system, and oil shock. The most important thing about our track is 3 soft tires, then 1 hard tire on the right front. Some people RIP with 4 softs as well. Hope to see you soon!

Jack: All of the MR02mm/rm hopups work on the LM car, but not all work if you are going to be using the stock 102mm body (mazda/porsche CanAm type bods) If you plan on using a 98mm or 94mm body then yes all the hopups out there work according to whatever body you choose. The stock MR02 comes with 27am electronics where the new LM comes with the 2.4ghz stuff. Does this answer your question? See you later on!!!

Hi Jack,
One more thing to keep in mind is that the LeMans(LM) has a longer track (distance between the rear wheels) than the standard 02 and therefore you can not use a LM diff with a standard 02 motor mount and vise versa. If your sole purpose is to lower the 02 motor check out the new LCG motor mount from pnracing: part number MR2288. This may interest you, however, it only allows a wheelbase of 98 or 102mm. I think you'll find that you're going to have to replace the stock rear damper as well if you want to run anything other than 102mm.?.?. I can double check that tonight though..

Hi Guys, Great racing last night!
Dave,
Any plans to break racing into stock/mod classes in the future? Point Series?
Any specialty racing i.e. time trial contest, one on one tournament racing (bracket style single/double elimination), endurance race (this could mean many different things),etc. A little $$ on the line always makes things fun too. These kind of things would be a once in a while type event. Maybe on a night other than Thursday. Hell if you have some extra rcp we could have a drag strip on the floor for one night :D
Just a mini brain dump of some ideas....

i want to thank everyone for a great time last night,i wouldn't have been able to race last night if it wasn't for John letting me use the rental car, sorry Brett we didn't know you wanted to run both classes, but thank you for letting me use the shop rental.these guys are a class act and run a great facility.
Dave G. thank you for all the help and keeping things fun last night, you got us up quick and we raced quick, not like some offroad tracks we've been to.Linda! Dave is doing a great job of running the races and also keeping the comedy at a level of laughter.all night laughter
Tommy,Al,Chris and Jim thanks for the support and help you guys have made coming back to racing really fun and easy
Al great runs runs last night in a couple of weeks you are going to be up front and winning, just a few more lessons,i know i'm learning from ya
Tommy i loved that Pan car body i think we should all run them or at least into back of someone, your car is dialed i hope mine works like yours and Daves,if it does aww yeah Baby
Chris your getting better each week i see you run, each class you run requires driving skill which i see you have and you have been fine tuning that skill, its not all about how fast you are just how fast you get to the end which you do very well.
Jim is getting faster each week too
Again everyone at Hot Wheels thank you

Hi Guys, Great racing last night!
Dave,
Any plans to break racing into stock/mod classes in the future? Point Series?
Any specialty racing i.e. time trial contest, one on one tournament racing (bracket style single/double elimination), endurance race (this could mean many different things),etc. A little $$ on the line always makes things fun too. These kind of things would be a once in a while type event. Maybe on a night other than Thursday. Hell if you have some extra rcp we could have a drag strip on the floor for one night :D
Just a mini brain dump of some ideas....

The race pickin's looked slim at 6:30 PM with about 5 racers in the room. Who knew it would quadruple that and more in less than half an hour!!
The best part of the night was seeing how many people uttered the statement "well, I'm out" only to have Dave or John or someone in the pits make that statement untrue. EVERYONE got to race. Including me! Thanks to Dave for figuring out I had a "hung" brush.
I'm sure the weeks ahead will only get better!
Major MAJOR thanks Frank, Tom and Dave for the props. Without you guys I couldn't be the "Cole Trickle" of HotWheels. As much fun as tinkering is, I'd rather just be driving!
And who knows... maybe next week I'll actually get to race against Eric.
Have a great week guys and we'll see you at the track.

Leo: Many many ideas have been thrown around just a matter of sealing the deal. YES we want to break up the Nascar oval to a stock and mod class. I would like to make the stock class be the stock KYOSHO motor, with either 1 layer of 3010 or 3004 fets, whatever hopups you want to do to your car as long as they are NASCAR parts would be up to you. Mod would be open motor and open electronics but again all chassis parts must be Nascar related.
Enduro, yes we are thinking this one too.....Maybe 10 car segments for 100 laps per segment. (roughly 8 minute race) then the final main would be a 500 lap shootout!
As far as specialty racing, we did the Nascar giveaway, then kicked it up a notch by having TOMMY building a pimped out Nascar then gave that away, we also did HOTBUCKS gift certificates.
The ideas are endless just a matter of putting it in place. I think the one thing that NEEDS to be changed is to slow down the Nascars, (stock class) they are just too intimidating for a newbie onlooker to get involved.
As always thanks for the ideas and support you and your family bring every week Leo!!

dave is right maybe we should split the oval into at least 2 classes one stock class, one how fast do you want to spend? class. I hate to see good cars getting wrecked by fast traffic (awesome as our crashes can be...) noone has a spotter saying the car closing in is three laps up, let him by. so everyone races for position all the time it's great racing but again, hard on the cars PNracing makes cool parts but they tend to make a heavier car (not to mention faster) as for giveaways- i just want the track& shop to do well.racing in the driveway was cool but the track and lap counting make it kinda real .I personally can deal with the chance for occasional prizes and a regular place to race. The owners of hot wheels have done something alot of us have dreamed of-opening a shop & having a racing progam.Im sure it's not easy

i like what dave has to say to , there is alot of good ideas for racing and classes. it would be nice to have a stock and mod class for oval.also for the infield racing to , but it also comes down to (TIME). Meaning :when we start the races at 7pm , and when we finish the last race of the night. i think we need two nights of racing, a thurday night and a saturday. we have a good group of guys now, i also like to see tech, and have some rules for the right classes. I am cool with anything we do , longs there a great place to race at, and i like to thank john and brett for have a great place to race at. and dave for running the show to , :D

Yes certainly a different track will definitely impact on the tires performance, it does not matter if it is an RCP track; wear, storage conditions, temperature, they all contribute to this.
A few weeks a go I was talking to an old R/C friend, about the same subject (Tires Issues) I have noticed that any time I replace a set of tires for a new set (using same match compound hardness degree and brand) my car handling varies. The first question he made to me was; if I was verifying the tires compound hardness degree with my tire durometer? No never, was my immediate answer. I never thought of it, in this size scale. So as soon we ended our conversation I indeed presided measuring a lot of new tires of different compound hardness and brands. Incredible for me, yes, about 70 % of the tested tires didn’t match with the compound degree marked on the label; for example, a marked label with 20 degree, when practically measured with the durometer, it was 22 degree or 18 degree, some tires had a difference up to 3 degree, plenty to make you go nuts trying to figure out the reason way your chassis does handle deferent than before the tires where replaced. So from that very moment on, I do this exercise before I run-in my tires, and double-check as soon they have been run-in. Now I can match the tires as close as I want them. This has indeed been a very positive solution in helping my chassis enhance its performance and predictability.
Cheers

That is a good question. Will Saturday racing be for points? Is that what will differentiate Saturday racing from Thursday? AND if that is the case, what's the big prize for the points?
Once again I have to thank Dave "Butter" Graboski!! Never thought I'd see a running motor get submerged in water. Very cool stuff.

How about connecting the pos and neg terminal together on a full drained battery (dead shorting), lighting rubber tires on fire, soaking motor brushes, lengthening chassis's using baking soda and CA glue.... and the list goes on.

I'm really looking forward to this coming Thursday. To see you (Lugnutz), Chris, Dave and the rest of the onroad field go at it. The icing on this cake would be to have Willy show up and Sai. Don't think I've seen Roland out on a Thursday, but that would be the complete picture. Butter (Dave G) you better make those calls and try to make that happen! Then we'll have the most stacked A and B main to date. Good luck with that! I'm sure that if Willy hears you're racing, he'll show up.
And again, maybe Eric and I will get to race against each other. Update the software! Maybe Tuesday night we'll swing by and help you do that.

I think having two classes is a good idea. Just one caveat with the stock class: the motor. How about allowing only the Kyosho X Speed motor? It is a Kyosho (almost stock) part that everyone usually gets immediately upon buying the car (is anyone using the stock motor, BTW?). Plus, I think they're built with more consistency that the stock motor (ie: there's too much speed discrepancy amongst stock motors) and it would make for more exciting racing. I'm not saying allow any kind of motor (Atomic, Chili etc.), only the X Speed. Just an idea. Your thoughts?
Either way, looking forward to Thurs. night as always!

I have seen in the past where the racing venue would provide (for sale of course) "stock" motors of their choice. The motors were dyno tested ensuring that they are as equal as possible. The motors are then sealed so during inspection, it can be determined if there was any tampering of the motor. The "bone” stock motors that come with the ready sets are not able to accept any other type of motor pod, except for the stock plastic unit, unless one changes the stock motor "can" with a unit that has threaded holes to accept an aftermarket motor pod. Then the motor will no longer be “stock”. Will this be ok?
Will there be any kind of chassis rules? 015 only on the oval, right?
How will the new rules affect the overall length of Thursday night’s races?
Will there be prizes for any other position\main winners? B main 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc…, C main 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc….?
Would it help if more racers had a transponder? If so, maybe there can be a group offer rate?

lugnutz the PN 70t stock motor is a great motor for stock class. Of the different classes we run at MHS Hobby Shop at Saddle Brook NJ, we use the PN 70t stock motor for our MR-015 road course. The motor is well made and is very consistent which makes for very equal racing. No one blows the other on the straights. We normally use the speedy 05 on the nascars but we may consider switching to the PN 70t motor. Will probably vote on it.
Hmm... mixing shock oils? Have you tried 30wt oil (its close to your desired wt of 32). If mixing works for you great. However, if you can, try to keep your tunning as simple has you can.

Hey Guys,
Once again thank you all for making this past Thursday night another record attendance. We had 2 heats of STOCK oval, 2 heats of MOD Oval, and 2 heats of Roadcoarse.
Tommy Lane was, as always fast on the oval, He tqed and won the Mod oval class, he also Tqed stock oval. Peter K finished 2nd in Mod oval with super fast laps, and Chris Deblass finished 3rd with smooth consistent driving. Bob Martineau took down the win in stock oval with Track Owner, Brett Jamieson finishing in 2nd place.
In the Roadcoarse class it was all Frank Paulin, Frank Tqd and won convincingly. Frank has been racing for a long time, but took a 7yr hiatus, showing that he's still got it. Chris Deblass ended up 2nd and Al Romero in 3rd
This past weeks Saturday night turnout was not quite as good as Thursday but still good considering it was a holiday weekend.
Tommy Lane Tqd and won stock oval, but 9yr old Cole White (Dave Graboski's stepson) gave him a run for his money. Tommy's fast lap was a 3.6, Coles was a 3.8. Little more time, and this kid will be the one to beat. Cole Finished in 2nd place beating out the OTHER adults...
Dave Graboski Tqd and won the roadcoarse portion of Saturday night racing. Chris Deblass finished in 2nd and Frank Paulin in 3rd. Daves fast lap of an 8.1 was by far the fastest lap ever recorded on the roadcoarse. He also did a 28 lap run (almost 29) in the 3rd round of qualifying, 3 laps faster then 2nd place.
There were not enough drivers for Mod Oval, but Tommy Lane asked for us to turn the computer on so that he can test out his mod car for a few laps, he was consistently clicking off 2.8 and 2.9 second laps. The speed on the straight was INSANE to say the least. Make sure to stop by his pits to see what he is running.
Below is a video that our buddy Dave edited for us of Saturday night roadcoarse racing. There was not enough "GOOD" oval footage to sqeeze in, but we will make sure to take more video this upcoming Thursday. What do you think????
See you during the week!!!

jackg
2008.07.08, 09:54 AM
Eric thanks for the motor offer but Dave is right, there are many ways to fix this.Sometimes the existing holes can be used even if stripped .One option is to use a(slightly bigger, maybe tough to find) 2.5 or 3mm screw . This is good if changing the motor rotation (tapping new holes) is not possible due to space/set up constrictions, but your still left with the same thin, weak holes. A more surgical approach would be to remove the motor armature, cut out a small plate from sheet copper(the stuff kitchen sink drain pipes are made of works and yes I have some) make basically a backing plate that will be inside the motor and the original screws thread into it.Use the motor as a template to mark the holes in the plate, drill the holes then set the plate in place.Thread the screws in to hold the plate against the inside of the motor can place a small drop of CA on each side to hold the plate in place during installation(tiny drop) the plate is secured by the mounting screws when the motor is in ,the glue just holds it in place untill it's in.Once the CA is dry remove the screws and install the motor, being careful when threading the screws(duh). Remember, the plate will be shaped more like an oval washer with a large center hole that does not change the armature spacing but enough width to support the screw holes. This is pretty involved but if you have a motor that you like, works well in your set up & don't want to change it this could be an option. I'm sure you've heard this already but it doesn't take much torque to hold those tiny screws in place-go easy killer! I hope this helps. -j

hey tommy-
would pn fets make a car faster given the same pn stock motor?
faster is racing- mod class is pure racing I think the speed of these cars is what makes them interesting. 8 years ago I raced 10th scale gas with a serpent 1/8th scale class (seperate heats) the serpents were & are amazing to watch .I think the same about the mods - it's not for everyone but is great racing -j

could we maybe make one change to the stock class rules? allow fet changes/upgrades? if the fet upgrade makes the throttle smoother but not any faster why not? myself and maybe others could run in stock with only the change of a motor .With the existing rules i have to build another car- a motor change would be alot easier speaking of fets I too have some changes & my car is pretty blowed as well !goracing! -j
Jack, The fet upgrades give more torque and also will not blow up on heavy loads. With this being said, with more torque you can afford to gear higher, when you gear higher your amps go up as well. The 3004 board will blow up if geared too high, but the 3010 more then likely will not blow. The advantages in FETS is quite an increase. We are trying to keep the cost down for a newbie. I can guarantee that someone like yourself JACK can take one of our rental cars and run with the top dog in stock. This is why we want to keep the stock class the way it is.

the Fets have to say 3010 on them. if you talk to Chris at the shop. he and do a Fets job on your car, from anytrack i have raced at ,in mini-z's, a 3010 board is a stock class. that what Kyosho came out with as a stock board, anything higher then 3010 is a mod. come talk to me thursday at the track. i help you on this
jackg

i get it . the head room of amps the fets allow is an advantage.the math makes sense 3010's it is. thanks Dave & Tommy -j

what's the difference run stock and have fun,the cars are so small as it is, i couldn't change the fets if i wanted to  all i want to do is race something stock no mod road coarse and yes it's coarse because it hurt's :D
if i put a gear on it like at 15 pinion will it blowed up my board? or will it go very fast and then get blowed up, i know i'm new to these small cars but man i dropped a screw 6 times tonight trying to change the motor.can i use duck tape to hold the motor in or will it come off.
jackg try to keep the stock class simple,we all want to be the fastest but what Tommy and Dave say is true,we as a whole group should keep stock speeds down so we keep the intrest of younger, newer and sometimes older people involved in this wonderful sport of ours also the more new peolpe we get the better things will be for all of us in the long run.this has been the most fun that i have had racing in a long time,if it was this much fun 7 or so years ago i wouldn't have stopped but now i think its great and everyone at the shop is really making an effert to keep it that way FUN!
and if you need help with your car i will be glad to help
Your stock class should run anima II geared 9 52. I'm from Jersey but currently live in SoCal, Just wanted to drop by and say whats up to fellow Jersians.

Just wondering what the rules are on the motor for the "stock" oval class?
The "2" motors that are allowed are the Kyosho ready set stock motor (dull silver can that comes with your car) or the new PN 70 turn (gunmetal color) stock motor. These are the only 2 motors that are allowed in the Nascar stock class.

What kind of difference is there between the two?
Will the PN motor be for sale at the store?

Another great night of racing. 25 entries, not bad, not bad at all. Here are some of the highlights.
Tommy Lane wins stock oval.
Jack Glassman wins mod oval
Frank Paulin wins roadcoarse
- New track record in stock oval with 65 laps in 4 min
- New fast lap record of a 3.30 Tommy Lane, followed by Peter K with a 3.38 in stock oval
- Frank Paulin wins 2 weeks in a row on the roadcoarse
- Leo as always showing his gymnastic ability
- John Scarinzy showed off his custom painted Dukes of Hazzard Nascar, Dave downloaded the horn (DUKES) sound as well as the "just a good ole boy" theme song. Tons of fun...
- Eric brought a few of his nephews to race and it was great to have them.
- Chris Deblass (airplane guy) showing he can hang with the best of em in roadcoarse
- Jim Gruzecki showed off his 88 Earnheardt Jr car lastnite and made the stock A with it.
- The fastest laps in the stock main were a 3.3 to a 3.5 showing how consistent the new PN motors are.
- Jack clicked off a few 3.0 laps in mod, when are we going to see sub 3 second laps???
What do you think about a time trial event within the next 2-3 weeks? This would be a 1 minute run with 1 person on the track at a time... the person to click off the fastest individual lap on the oval will recieve a $50 gift certificate from "Hot Wheels Hobby" More info to be announced during the week.
Who all is racing with us 2morrow night?? Cant wait to see you all again and as always. Thank you for your continued support!!!

Saturday night was a good night of points racing. We had an excellent turnout for both oval and road-coarse classes.
Dave G won both stock oval and the roadcoarse classes convincingly but forfitted his points being that he works here.
Frank Paulin was fast on both the oval and roadcoarse but had trouble getting through traffic.
Jim Gruzecki finished 2nd in oval
Eric Fitzgerald drove a consistent race and finished 1 position ahead of Frank Paulin in the roadcoarse class.

Sorta, do not wire your transponder directly to the battery terminals on your 7.4 lipo car. Wire it to the BEC plug (if it has one) of your reciever. This puts out 5vts instead of 7.4

Speaking of LIPO: I decided to wrench on my micro t lastnite while hanging out with my son for kids night. I have never ever run this vehicle, but decided..hey why not.
Its a micro t with the longer desert truck chassis, 3 racing shocks, bearings, and a lipo. I put the BUDS RACING oval wedge body on as well. Other then that I just gave it a lot of TLC without spending any more $$$. I drove it lastnite for the 1st time and WOW! Boy did it draw a crowd. It was easily doing modified mini z nascar lap times and looked bad azz going around. What do you think of having a class of these for either Thurs or Sat night racing? For those of you who are interested (BOB MARTINEAU) feel free to bring your micro trucks on Thurs, and maybe we can convince Brett and John to have an exhibition race. Video of my little oval rat will be posted by 2morrow. I will be showing it off tonight as well for those of you who are interested.
Talk to you soon!

just a few words about cars- size doesn't matter when it comes to racing.every little detail counts & a good car builder never forgets that.if you do, the track will remind you of what you left out-usually in the middle of a heat.we have some very good car builders among us who also are talented drivers.they are also real good people. tommy & frank know what they're doing-thats why they are fast- no other reason.get to the track, practice and you see results.try and learn from them. i have. -j

It looks as if someone up there is getting tired of getting his cakes kicked by Ol Greeneyes. I had the opportunity to race with him on a regular basis while he was in NC. He was very patient with me and helped me sort through some issues I was having at the track. I miss him very much and wish he was back with us. He has an incredible eye for detail and that is half the battle. More importantly he has a rock solid understanding of the most important adjustment on the car. The nut that holds the steering wheel. If you aren't familiar with it, then learn it. It will take you far.

Hi Guys,
Another awesome night of racing. Track Records were broken, chatter of cheating was amongst the pits (nothing out of the norm) and the best oval race to date. Here are some of the highlights.
-Frank Paulin set tq in stock oval and a new lap record, 70 laps in 4 minutes.
-Tommy Lane continues to be unbeatable in the oval mains, with yet another win.
-Frank Paulin Tqd and won open roadcoarse, but Chris Deblass definitly gave him a run for his money. Both clicked off fast sub 9 second lap times.
-Tommy Lane broke the stock individual lap record with a 3.2 second lap
-Jack Glassman SHATTERED the mod individual lap record with a 2.9 second lap.
-Dan S had a very strong qualifying attempt and made the A main.
-Leo did a LOT (too many) of fet installs in his nephews mini-z's.
I cannot lie, every single week there is chatter amongst the pits, a few of the front runners cheating. Once again, a few people approached both myself and Dave throughout the night, with the thought that the 2 fastest guys were cheating. Right before the very last race of the night, Dave announced that both Tommy Lane and Frank Paulin's cars would be torn down after racing. Promptly after the last race a crowd gathered around both gentlemens pit area. Dave tore down Tommy's car, while Frank tore down his own car while many onlookers anxiously awaited the results. There were NO markings on Franks ready set kyosho motor, which would show any sort of tampering was had, and his circuit board was 1 single layer of 3010 fets. LEGAL!!! Tommy's 70 turn PN Racing motor also showed no signs of tampering (especially since he just purchased the motor from us on the same night) and his circuit board also had 1 single layer of 3010 fets. LEGAL!!!BOTH CARS WERE PERFECTLY LEGAL. Dave has over 20 yrs of racing experience and has world championship results to back it up, many of the onlookers have electronics backgrounds and also examined both cars and agreed that both cars were legal. This is not something that we wanted to do, but we did this to prove a point. The critics that think that you need to cheat to go fast are completely wrong. Feel free to e-mail myself, Brett or Dave with any questions regarding the above statements. For those people that did not stick around for the teardown, and for those who were absent....Here are the pics to prove legality of both racers.

Tommy it was more then one person that confronted me on Thursday. More then 1 person throughout the week speaks to John about the possibility of people cheating as well.
My thoughts on people accusing people of cheating is this. If people are going to cheat dont you think you would see someone completely blowing the field away? This is not the case, Tommy is winning the mains convincingly because he drives safe but fast. Frank Paulin has been racing since the 80's so needless to say he has a TON of tracktime and car setup experience, therefore he is fast. Anyone who is fast has both chassis setup knowledge and driving ability. Come down, practice, learn and of course check out the www.mini-zracer.com forum...there is a ton of good stuff on here!!!
One more piece of advise for the drivers that are being called cheaters. If you are accused of being a cheater, take it in stride and feel flattered that people are accusing you of cheating, it just makes you look even better when the non believers are proved WRONG!!!

Jim G 1st place mod oval nice run! Cole in stock oval looking solid -age is just a number. Tommy & Frank showing the definition of smooth also in stock oval but Dave stole the show in roadcourse .If you put a pencil on the front of his car it would trace the same line lap after lap -really amazing to watch. The matched cells and comm. drop make a huge difference.

One more piece of advise for the drivers that are being called cheaters. If you are accused of being a cheater, take it in stride and feel flattered that people are accusing you of cheating, it just makes you look even better when the non believers are proved WRONG!!!
Very well said Dave...I have been around awhile and I raced all over and you get the same reactions everywhere....If you take a close look at the so called cheaters...they are always practicing, tweaking and helping others....
Developing and honing there skills....
Skill is a tremendous edge and not to many racers master it....
Im still working on mine....

i want to thank everyone again for a fun nite at Hot Wheels,
also the food was a plus,i can't remember the last time a shop would by food for all to eat a BIG thanks to John
Davey g is spot on it is flattering when someone wants to tear down my stuff and i do not dislike anyone that accused me of cheating, but next time please just come over and ask me what i'm doing and i will tell you and show you i have nothing to hide,as Dave said i've been racing since the 80's along side some of the best in the world.
Dave you are showing my age here
JIm G i'm sorry for hitting you last nite just didn't see ya,you still can have some of my code blue ;)
Jack thanks again for allowing me to run in mod with you ,you are really fast and we have loads of fun racing side by side and even nose to tail, drafting who would of thunk it,
Tommy i'm still laughing :D :D
Al and Eric are getting faster in roadcoarse and their cars don't handle bad either, thanks for letting me try your very fast cars.
thanks Willy and Bennett for coming out hope you guys can make next week,it was fun racing with you guys,Bennett has your wheel bearings stop spinning yet?
Sai you are right comm drops and a well kept set of batteries do make you look as if you are cheating, but so does driving smooth
THANKS everyone for having FUN!

I'm really surprised it took so many posts before someone mentioned batteries. LOL. I noticed right away that when I picked up a "matched" pack, my car took off like a bullet!
I even mentioned to Davey G last week, that the reason I couldn't drive my car in the races was because I was practicing with regular cells and racing with "matched" cells. TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR!!! With no practice on the "matched" cells I couldn't control my car during the qualifiers or the main.
I know Dave was getting bummed thinking I was totally freezing up, but now we now it was the batteries all along!
They cost more, but they are significantly stronger than just a regular set of cells.

A few more little twirks on my Losi Micro oval car today, and it was clicking off 2.7-2.9's for about 3 minutes straight.
Still the stock servo, motor, circuit board, and even the transmitter...I am purposely not going nuts with this thing, trying to keep it simple to prove a point that you can go fast without spending $$$$
Will we have enough for a LOSI class by Thursday?? I sure hope so!!!

Dave thats awesome. The car looked & felt fast sat. -thanks for the test drive. That brings up a question. Can I convert my short micro to the longer model by just getting the 7 or 8 dollar chassis set? Which is longest the desert or baja? Thanks again -j
Davey G
2008.07.20, 05:49 PM
HI Jack,
For the longer length wheelbase all you need to do is get the longer Losi DT (Desert Truck) chassis. I also purchased the DT front shock tower as well to fit the Buds Racing Wedge body a little bit better. The Micro T ft shock tower body mount is too short for the wedge in my opinion. The Baja and the Micro t are the same length, the Desert truck is the longest one. Are you coming to the track on Tuesday? I will be there from 4pm to close....
See ya!

i'm working on mine right now ,like Dave i'm going to keep it a cheap as possible,i don't want to put alot of money into it.just like my stock oval car no money into just setup i hope.mine's going to even start off with stock batteries and motor.

Thanks Dave thats good news. Yes I will be testing the roadcourse car on tues -so with an 02 car 2 degree or 3 degree front knuckles? -j

2008.07.20, 06:30 PM
-2 degree camber knuckles, great to have you join us jack
Davey G
2008.07.20, 07:32 PM
Either one will be good but when you go to 3 degree camber, your cars toe goes out, therefore you would have to purchase a 1-2 degree toe in bar as well. I am currently running kyosho 2 degree, but have run 3 degrees quite often as welll.

Hi Guys,
As most of you know, we like to change things up on Thursdays and make it lots of fun for you racers and spectators. This Thursday we would like to do a 200 lap race for the A MAIN stock guys. Top 7 guys will qualify!! There will be a MANDATORY battery change (pitstop) during this event so be prepared to have another set of batteries charged. The winner of this race will recieve $20 hot bucks, 2nd will recieve $15 hot bucks and 3rd will receive $10 hotnucks. This will be the last race of the night. On a regular night of stock racing, the top guys usually run around 120 laps in 8 minutes, so whats another 80??
This past Saturday night points racing was very exciting as well. Tommy Lane and Frank Paulin once again were the top guys in stock oval, but young gun (9yr old) Cole poked his nose in there everyone once in a while, as well as Jim Gruzecki having consistent strong runs. In roadcoarse we had special guests, WILLY WONG and BENNETT LO (Atomic sponsored drivers) Frank Paulin held tq until Davey G decided to throw his Enzo down for the 3rd round and tqd by 3 laps. Davey G convincingly won the a, followed by Frank, and Willy. These guys put on a show for sure!!!
As always thanks for the support week in and week out!!!

i think a MANDATORY battery change (pitstop) will make this race cool, i am so ready for this, :D all i ask is people to learn to drive your lines on the track. try NOT to take people out, Drive smart and have clean racing (Please)
remeber if you can drive side by side with out hitting the next driver, Now that is good racing,

If everyone could race like that your car wouldn't be getting torn down at the end of the race:D You are better off trying to avoid the slower cars:eek:

Hi Al,
There is only so much time to do these special events on a Thursday night. Maybe next week we will have something special for the roadcoarse. Davey G's last Thursday night with HOT WHEELS HOBBY is next week, so maybe we will do something special being that he is the roadcoarse master and all. :p
See you in a little bit!!!

HotWheels Hobby Rules!
Great racing in stock oval Nice job Tommy Frank Luke Duke & Brett/Chris
I am hooked on roadcourse. The 100 lap race tonite was awesome maybe it could be the blueprint for the roadcourse main each week? 100 laps with one mandatory pit for batt. change-perfect formula. Sorry to everyone I hit during the nite especially in mod oval-running 2 classes means you will probably overlook something & tonite that something was radio batteries in oval.:eek:Hey Eric thankyou for all the parts & help-if the aliens you stole that new radio from come looking for it you can hide it at my house!
Big congrats to Dan for winning the mod oval A main-can't wait till next thurs & I will try to be ready. -j

Hey Guys Luke Duke Here Just Wondering If Anybody Would Be Up To Racing Cars Straight Out Of The Box No Modifications At All Just Comm Drops And Batteries. So We Could Have A Stock Class, A Limited Class Wich Is Stock Now And Mod Class I Know Jim Would Be Up For This. So Guys Speak Up On The Forum Or Next Thursday. Ive Talked To John And Brett About This And They Seem Willing To Do This If We Are Up For It.hey Frank Nice Racing With Ya Good Times . Thanks Once Again Luke Duke.

luke duke its always a plesure to race with you,you are getting stronger each week.as for another class i think we are thinning the classes out to far,to many classes can make it hard for you to get enough guys in one.besides with a completely stock car Dave and myself have already done 3.4 and 3.3 just by changing the gearing.i think if anyone wants to learn on how to go faster just stop by my pit and i will show you and the rest will be up to them to practice,i have no problem giving anyone my gear ratio and setup.
onto something a little different,i first want to say that it is fun to race with everyone at Hot Wheels i wouldn't have restarted if it wasn't true.
second since i have been back racing i noticed one thing and that is that everyone wants to go fast but doesn't understand how to go fast,as a driver on the stand when a faster guy comes up on you don't move out of the way, hold your line and tell the faster guy which way you want him to go,an example would be if we are racing oval and tommy comes behind me and i'm already to take the low line i would say tommy go high and as a faster driver he should go high with no problem,if you keep moving over for faster guys and messing yourself up you will not enjoy yourself, communication is a big thing in racing,i was told this when i first started racing many years ago by some of the best at that time,so lets continue to have fun and go racing
i also want to thank everyone who ran roadcooarse this week like Jack,Bob,and Tommy the class is getting bigger
this goes out to everyone at Hot Wheels if you need help setting up your car just ask,Mike Massimo did and i think he likes what he has now

Hey Luke Duke Again. Lugnutz I Understand What Your Saying.but Im Thinking If We Have A Totally Stock Class No Modifications At All It Will Be Inviting To Newcomers First Of All Less Money To Spend Getting In To The Sport And Easier To Learn How To Drive The Car Im Talking For Someone Who Has No Experience Just Coming Of The Street A Virgin To The Sport. And Also It Would Be All The Driver No Edge With The Car At All.i Was New To This Hobby When I Started And I Feel Im Getting Bettar No One Wants To Really Kill Me But Tommy Lol. I Never Drove A Mod Car Till Last Thursday Besides Taking It Out Into The Race Track For The First Time Wow They Are Fast And Hard To Handle For Luke That Is. But Tommy Dont Worry Ill Pratice With That Bad Boy Before I Attempt That Again. And Thanks Brett For Letting Me Break Your Car.thats The Way I Roll.what Im Getting At Is The Way The Mod Car Was To Me A Totally Different Handling Car Then My Stock Car . It Would Be Easier For The New Comers To Run A Totally Stock No Modification Car Compared To Our Stock Rules. I Love The Stock Class We Have Now I Consider It A Limited Class If We Had A Stock Class Id Run Both. But Thats Luke Duke Speaking. Over And Out.

it will be a good class but we as a group would have to decide who can run in that class and i for one would not run in it because i'm not new:D

2008.07.26, 10:53 AM
i had to put my two say about a stock class out of the box, ,i think its cool to do that BUT. 3004 board in the ready set nascar. THEY DO NOT MAKE THAT BOARD ANYMORE, the stock board that Kyosho now sale is a 3010.you will not see a 3004 board for sale anywere. so what do you do when your FETS blow up. I think that why Kyosho went to 3004 to the new 3010's FETS. the nascar kit been out for an long time, when was the last time you seen the 29 GM Goodwrench car. 2006. i think there was a reason why Kyosho went to a 3010 board. when you change your gears higher with a 3004 board, the FETS may or may not blow up. So i think the stock class is good as it is now.
I agree with frank on this = ( i noticed one thing and that is that everyone wants to go fast but doesn't understand how to go fast,as a driver on the stand when a faster guy comes up on you don't move out of the way, hold your line and tell the faster guy which way you want him to go,an example would be if we are racing oval and tommy comes behind me and i'm already to take the low line i would say tommy go high and as a faster driver he should go high with no problem,if you keep moving over for faster guys and messing yourself up you will not enjoy yourself, communication is a big thing in racing )

In regards to holding lines...
What if you're in turn four when a faster guy comes up behind you?
No one ever goes high on turn four!!! lol
Just a little levity :D people.... just my way.
Had fun last night! Thanks everyone who made it possible. From the boys in the shop to Frank. Frank especially for wrenching not only on his car but my car and Eric's car as well! Triple load on a race night. If that isn't helping out what is?
