View Full Version : ACTION RC MINI SPEEDWAY: 2nd ANNUAL MINI-Z CHAMPIONSHIPS!

ActionRC
2008.04.28, 07:04 PM
It's that time of year again - time to determine who the greatest Mini-Z drivers are in the Tri-State area! It's time for the 2nd Annual NYC Mini-Z Championships at Action RC Mini Speedway! This year promises to be another incredible event - just like last year. Here are some of the basics:

* DATE: June 21, 2008
* TIME: Doors open at 10:00am for practice. Racing will start at 1:00pm.
* PLACE: Action RC Mini Speedway, 101M Ellis Street, Suite G, S.I., NY 10307

CLASSES, FEES, etc
Classes will be run under normal Action RC rules, with the exception of the MR02 Stock class, which will use PN Speedy 07 BB handout motors! Here's what we'll be running:

MR02 Stock w/ PN Speedy 07 BB handout!
MR015 Spec
AWD/2WD MODIFIED - New class!

We'll have lots of prizes and giveaways, free bagels and coffee in the morning, raffles, and as always, we'll have a really great time.

Registration will be limited to only 33 racers, so register early!

PAYMENT: Prepayment will be necessary to reserve your spot as one of the 33 drivers. If you will not be paying in person, you may send a cashiers check or money order for your registration, stating the classes you wish to run, or call your registration in by phone using your credit card.

COST: Drivers running MR02 Stock: The first class is $30, which includes your handout motor. The second class is $10, and the third class is $5.
Drivers NOT running MR02 Stock: The first class is $25, and the second class is $10.

Random inspections of motors and cars will be performed by lottery. Make sure your cars fit within the rules - they are very simple. Cars that do not conform to the rules will not be permitted to run, and we will point at you, call you a cheater, make fun of you, and possibly throw things at you, some of which will be heavy and/or sharp. Don't cheat. No one likes a cheater.

CANCELLATIONS: If, for whatever reason, you register but will not be able to attend, you will receive a full credit up until May 21st. After May 21st, half of your registration fees will be returned, up until June 14th. After June 14th, a refund will not be offered, as it may be too late to fill the spot and motor that were held for you.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing all of you soon at Action RC Mini Speedway! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! I can check my email much more often than this forum, so if you have any specific questions, please contact me directly. Of course, the general discussions here are always super-informative as well. Let's go racing!!!

See you June 21st! (See rules on next post.)

Are you guys changing the layout before the race?
What's the track temp normally?
How old/new is the RCP track?
What tires do you guys usually use for stock class and mod?

Thank you!

Any other performance hop-ups are allowed. The only restrictions to this class as far as hop-ups go are the motor and the board must be box stock.

TJ,

Tires... depends entirely on setup and driving style.

My 94mm MM Lexus I use PN 6d radials with PN 8d slicks in the front. PN white springs, medium carbon t-plate, red PN damper springs, red top shock spring. The Kyosho 20d slicks work decent with the PN 15d front as a substitute, but I had to use the FRP t-plate with that setup. The PN 6d radials run better with the carbon t-plate, as there is more rear grip.

My 102mm MM Mazda, I use PN 6d slicks (ran out of radials), Atomic 30d Slick-R, PN white springs, FRP hard t-plate, red PN damper springs. I have a little too much front bite with that setup. It was my first run with it last week... Going to try different tires next week. Probably PN 20d or 15d... I need to dial out just a little bit of the steering. Although, I was using a gear diff with this setup. Which drove well, qualifying A2, finishing either 3rd or 4th (I forgot since I run too many classes).

For mod class, I use the 6d radials as well with Atomic Slick-R 30d. The handout front tires 40d AW have too much bite for the front, even with the PN 6d radials. I am trying to get some of the new Kyosho 20d radials to try for the rear...

Temps are vary a bit, but are usually kept around 70-75f I think. I dont know exactly. Track is about 4 years old I believe... and is WELL broken in. Grip is a little low compared to other tracks I have raced, it allways feels like there is more front bite than rear.

I have been told that it will be a completely new layout for the event. We will not have the Nascar layout to worry about... so it should be fun :P

Hi, everyone! If you have not preregistered yet, do it soon! Spots are filling up quickly! This is sure to be an AWESOME race!

The track will be very unique to all because, as EMU mentioned, I will not have the oval as part of the roadcoarse to deal with, so I can really go crazy with it! Not to pat myself on the back too hard, but I make some pretty cool layouts even with the confines of the oval. Without it, this track will be SICK! When the doors open Saturday, that will be the first time anyone runs it.

Too bad TJ can't make it after all, but we have lots of talent already signed up, and still have room for more. Don't wait too long!

If anyone has any specific questions, and would like to contact me directly, please feel free to contact me by email. I can check that much more often than I could the forum during the day.

So... for MR02 Stock... you're allowing the 2.4ghz and the AD Bands? Am I reading that right? (cool!)

EMU
2008.05.26, 01:55 AM
We have been running 2.4 and AD in the stock class for some time. Most still run the AM cars. I ran my 2.4 for a couple races, then went back to the slightly glitchy AM. I feel much more comfortable with the transmitter, even when using the 2PL (which has less glitch than the Helios).

The only person to win with a 2.4 was Magic. Who, unfortunately is no longer racing, again. I finished less than a tenth of a second behind him that race with the stock car from the Atomic race.

AD dont run well, if at all... Most will not finish a heat before shutting down, even with all the little tricks to reduce it. I run fine during practice few drivers, but during the races, its not good. Although I glitch the least out of any of the AD cars I have seen. Some run wild, others just stop and cant move at all until you come closer with the TX.

Is there going to be a best paint competition like last year?? I did not see it listed on the roster...

ActionRC
2008.06.05, 03:36 PM
Hi, everyone!

Sorry, Dave. No paint contest planned so far for this year, but I'll do it if there is enough interest. Are you racing on June 21st?

THIS SATURDAY is the final night of our current Point Series Championship! The latest standings are on the website, and if your name is still on the Points page, you are still eligible to make a run for a trophy. Even if you do not have enough weeks, come on down and race anyway!

IT'S THURSDAY, and that means GIFT CARD RACING! Come and get your piece of the prize payout! Everyone has been winning something, so everyone has a chance of not going home empty-handed. If you have never tried Gift Card Racing, try it tonight. It's a slower-paced, more casual version of Saturday's race program, with plenty of time for practice, set-up, AND racing!

BIG NEWS! This Monday, June 9th, is the 4th Anniversary of Action RC Mini Speedway! I thank all of you for making this possible. Those of you that have been involved in any form of organized RC racing for a while know that it is a tremendous accomplishment for any RC program to last that long. Many clubs get together and quickly fizzle out or lose their permission to race at certain facilities. Many hobby shops that try to run racing AND pay the rent quickly realize how difficult it is to do this, and shut down the track, if not the entire business. Although I am not open on this exact night, I would like to celebrate this accomplishment this Saturday and have some special raffles and offers, and surprise sales as well. Don't miss it! Not only will we have a lot of fun, but you'll get to take advantage of some special discounts as well.

DON'T FORGET - June 21st is the 2nd Annual NYC Mini-Z Championships! If you have not formally registered, please contact me immediately! I have heard of people telling other people that they are attending, but those people have not told ME that they are attending. This is going to be an amazing day of racing with an amazing track layout, so register now if you haven't already! If you need the information that was emailed about the race, email me and I'll send it to you, or check the website. If you plan on registering, please do not do it on this forum - please call or email me.

AND FINALLY... Action RC needs your attendance as much as possible during the coming summer months. As I have mentioned before, people go on vacations, barbecue, go to the beach, hang out in the pool, etc., and the track takes a pretty big hit. Please make your best effort to help support the track during the next two and a half months. It is absolutely necessary to keep it going for five years and more.

We've been having so much fun, and the racing has been great. This week's layout is also a good one. I made some changes to last week's layout that I think you will all enjoy, and I hope I get to race with all of you tonight and Saturday.

The layout will only be available on Saturday. I wouldn't want to give anyone an unfair advantage. I'll even block the window so no one can look through the window and drive it in their minds! Without the oval to work around, this is going to be a great layout! If you have any special requests for the layout, let me know now! The one I am most curios about is the back straight - full length (40') or interupted?

I am not going to be able to make it. I have been trying to weasle my way out of work to go to the race. It just isnt going to happen. It just happens that these 2 weeks (this one and next) are basically the only Saturdays that I work during the year. I have to set up for the summer job.

I wish everyone the best, and would really like to be there to at least battle to retain my 015 title. See you guys in a couple weeks.

That stinks, Eugene. Naturally, we would have loved to have you there. You will be missed!

If we start correcting each other's gramatical errors, we'll all be in big trouble!

I will definitely have the long straight because I intend to have other tight sections throughout the track. I will also move the radius turns that are normally for the oval to other sections. The whole track is coming up tonight, and it will be completely different tomorrow.

Can't wait!!! Coffee will be hot, juice will be cold, and bagels will be warm at 10am! See you all then!

Hi, everyone! The 2nd Annual NYC Mini-Z Championship at Action RC Mini Speedway was a huge success! Everyone had a great time, we had incredible racing as always, and lots of cool prizes were handed out to everyone. Here's a quick rundown of some of the racing highlights:

MR02 - C Main: Stugotz is back! Boarding school has focused his driving ability as he dominated the C-Main! He lead the entire race with his black Mercedes. Comments like "Wow - look at Stu go", and "Stugotz is running pretty good" could be heard throughout the packed bleachers. He finished five laps over a frustrated Tom M, who finished second in his yellow Mustang. George B tried to chase down Tom M for a second place finish, but hung back in third ahead of his son, Frank.

MR02 - B Main: OK, so I made the B-Main, not the A, but boy did I have to earn my win. John G chased me the entire time after getting hung up in an early crash. He ended up finishing barely 1 lap down to me, and fought off The Ji-Man, Jason, and Tom Sr., who were all right behind him. This was a tough race! Team Leo ran well, qualifying for the B but finishing sixth in one their first "Team" races. (Leo's nephew drove Leo's car the entire day. Leo was "Crew Chief.")

MR02 - A Main: Simply put, Dave G is unbeatable! He dominated the A-Main by 2 laps on his nearest competitor, Johnathan. Cropduster and Cody battled for third place for the entire 7 minute race, with Crop edging out Cody by just a few seconds. Crop came out of nowhere in the third qualifier and out-qualified some very good drivers. He finally got his groove back! Ed C lurked quietly in 5th for the entire race, down 1 lap to Crop and Cody. Larry F finished sixth.

MR015 - B Main: John G took the lead from me halfway through and never looked back. Well, maybe he did because I was on his bumper the whole race, but couldn't get by his Porsche with my S2000. He has gotten so good with that 015! Ji ran well right behind me, and made a few valiant efforts for 2nd, but couldn't do it. The Ji-Man held off Tom M and Stugotz who finished 4th and 5th.

MR015 - A Main: Johnathan and Sai battled head to head the entire race, swapping the lead several times, but Johnathan edged Sai out by just five seconds on the last lap to take the win. Both finished with 37 laps in their matching 300M's. Tom Sr and son Crop battled for third the entire race, but Sr took third from Crop right at the end of the race with just 3 laps remaining!

AWD/2WD MOD: Ed C lead this race early on, but Dave made the pass for the lead on lap 6 and held it for the rest of the race. Ed ran really well, holding off Tommy's Mazda by just 5 seconds . Larry F tried to run Tommy for 3rd, but couldn't close the gap. Stugotz and George battled for 5th, finishing just 6 seconds apart, but it was Stu who finished 5th in his gold NSX.

Special thanks go out to Kyosho for generously donating some of the prizes that were handed out, and special thanks as well to TJ Macabuhay from California for donating to the prize fund so that everyone could win something cool. TJ was unable to join us, but he wanted to contribute to the incredible sport and hobby that is Kyosho Mini-Z Racing, and ARCMS thanks him tremendously for that. The prize package that was sent from Kyosho was help up in Long Island by UPS for three days(!!!) and did not arrive in time, but ARCMS covered for the temporary lack of prizes. All in all, between ARCMS, Kyosho, and TJ, lots of Orion batteries, Autoscale bodies, decal sheets, model car kits, and a Mini-Z Monster were won by all - some big prizes and some small. Trophies were handed out for winners of all mains, bagels, coffee, and juice were on the house, and all in all, we had a great day. If you did not make it this year, don't miss it next year!

The Championship layout is still down tonight and Thursday for those who did not get to run it. I'll have a new layout down by Saturday for the next points race. I'll see everyone this week for more exciting racing at ACTION RC MINI SPEEDWAY, Staten Island's home for indoor radio-control car racing!
