Ditto...
Can't wait Russ - was an awesome event last year, and can't wait to see if this year's tops it :)
Besides, I need to "defend" my bump-up to (and then promptly finish last place in) the "A" in Mini-Z Stock

October 11th sounds good.. Can't wait for this event to come around again.. Looking forward to another huge track layout and seeing a lot of familiar faces that I got to meet last year... Hopefully this year we can raise even more money to help fight ALS...

I'm sure the DOW crew will be down for this!
Are you going to run M18 again?... I might just have to hang on to mine for this event.

1/18th scale is returning. More importantly Mike Gee will be staying for the Main this time and give you some good competition.
See you there!!!

October sounds great. I had a blast at the last one.:D
I have one question though, how are you going to divide up classes with the new 2.4 asf mini-z? will they have a class of their own or be put in the mod class?

Cool... will you be posting rules or will they be the same? I would think that the M18s should still run the 180 motors, but the big question to me would be (as i just realized, Vaz is asking)... what will stock MiniZ classes be? Any board and limited to a Spec motor (because of the 2.4s) or will it be the 3010 boards only?

If I am correct in my thinking the 2.4s FETs will not have a speed advantage over the 3010 when running a stock motor. Therefore I am inclined to lump them all in to the STK category.
Any objections?

this is exactly what howfastareyou is doing starting with season 6. there will be no fet restriction however there is a specified motor which is 70t. so long as you select a stock class motor i think it will be fine:)

Based on the above info from Arch2b I will have to say that 2.4s will be running in the STK category.

Jeremy,
One of our club members is looking to get rid of his AWD MiniZ for $80. Extra parts, motors, tires etc. It was the car I raced last year in the AWD category at the ALS Race and had it not been for a battery failure I think I would have won. He takes good care of it and it is a solid car.
If intersted email me and I will put you in touch. rhester@bowlesfluidics.com

HELLO EVERYONE.
Just wanted to provide a polite reminder that we are now in August and pre-registration is by Sept. 27th. The race is earlier in October this year so dates have moved up.
I have recieved only one F1 entry (thanks arch2b) and a few MiniZ Stock so far, BUT if you need a larger t-shirt size I need your entry confirmed by the END OF THIS WEEK so I can order the 2XL and 3XL shirts. We have upgraded shirts this year to a 3 color back with the same "cool" NCRC logo on the front.
I'll draft the prize list soon.

Hello Everyone,
Entries and prizes continue to trickle in and I am seeing some new names.:)
This is great, but I am beginning to get a little concerned that we will not have enough space.
We have not called out a driver limit for the event but I can tell you that the facility will really only handle about 75 drivers. This is not only space but amperage of our breakers in the pit area.
With this in mind, if you are interested in particpating (great racing, prizes and food) please try to get in your registration before Sept 27 or as soon as possible.
More info to follow soon.

Yes. Same place. Pit area and track area will be the same as before. We will have a little more pit area to accomodte more drivers but the track size will be in the same sq.in space. We are limited in space but will be sure to fill every inch so the track will have lap times of ~ 12sec for MiniZ and ~ 10sec for 1/18th scale.
Actual track layout will be posted October 1st, and don't forget that there will be Friday night practice if you want to come by or stay the night locally.

I have a quesetion, in the race specs you posted for F1 it says the motor and pcb have to be as stock. Does this mean they have to be stock motors and stock boards.
If this is the case I was wondering if they could be changed to the same rules as mini-z stock, I say this because a few of us have switched our F1's over to 2.4asf boards. That means we dont use the stock boards any more.
Also if I am correct, last year the motor limits for stock F1 were the same as mini-z stock.
Also, the Atomic stock and Stock R are lower than 50t. I think they are around 45t and 43t. Last year these motors were only open for mod class.
Thanks

I need to clarify. When I say stock I refer to the same rules as our Stock category. All of you will be okay with the 2.4Ghz boards.
The Atomic Stock is legal, Stock R is not. Sorry for this mistake. I'll update the spec sheet and repost (see attached) and correct on website.

Hello Everyone,
It is with extreme sadness that I find myself reporting to you that our friend Rich passed away this morning. I have been told that he went very peacefully.
Our race along with ALS Walks this month (starting this Saturday in Baltimore) are even more important now. The race will be in honor and in memory of Rich.
For those of you who have already sent in your registration, thank you. If you have not yet done so, please consider particpating in our race or signing up for a walk to support an organization that helped Rich out so much over the last several years.
For those of you who are following, the Senate passed the ALS registry act a few short hours ago. It is expected to pass the house with no problems.
We also recieved our prizes from Kyosho.
Two small victories to hold on to today.

I sent my pre-registration in this morning, I didnt know the dead line was this Saturday. It should be there in a day or two. If it reaches you Saturday will you still accept it since that is the day pre-reg ends?

I can honestly say that the last one was incredible, and it's really tough to explain to people who didn't go to last year's event just how amazing it really was! They really know how to turn out the sponsors for these events, they run the event very smoothly, the trophies were awesome (Ferrari shifters!), door and raffle prizes were in great multitude... and for cryin out loud... THEY FEED YOU FOR FREE!!! :D
So... all within driving distance... get your butts here on raceday!
Last year I just watched and it was incredible. I'm lucky to be able to race with all you guys this time.

Ed,
DOW has a special place in our hearts here at NCRC. I appreciate your compliments. We want to keep raising the bar year after year and even in this economy sponsors have been more than generous. Proving to me that the RC industry has a great people.
You can't ask for a better day.
From what I recall you walked away with a few of those gear shifts last year.
More prizes arrive every day now!!!! Anyone want a 1/18th scale Losi rock crawler RTR?
See you soon,
Russ

Thanks Russ! I just hope I can get my cars together before then... been having some strange tuning issues as of late. I know Larry is dialed in heavily right now and I'm pretty sure some will be ready for another intense battle in F1 (you know who you are out there! ;)... re-match!)
I'm still hoping to run M18, but if I can't swing the cells... I just might run all of the others! Very psyched for this one, I really didn't get a good shot at my own regional so I am going to enjoy just kicking back and racing!
I just realized something... it's not an open fet race for F1? I just fetted my F1 a little while ago... just a single layer of 4562s. I'm guessing it's now illegal, right?

I wonder who you want a rematch with in F1? It couldnt be me since I'm so slow.:D
As far as you fets go, if Russ will allow it I dont mind racing against a 1x1 of 4562. One guy in our club runs a single layer of 4562's on his F1 and it gives him very similar performance to a 2.4 board. He is coming to this event too so his F1 also wouldnt be allowed.
If we check with the other racers and its ok with them maybe Russ can change the rules some. Allowing you guys in would also fill up the feild since not alot of people run F1.

Well, after running the single layer car with an old style "stock" type motor... it's really fast, a real handful on my track anyways. It is very similar in performance to my 2.4 but just seems a bit punchier. I think if there was a spec 70 turn the any fet rule would work fine... but with these Xspeeds, Speedys & Atomics, the power development is much too varied. My backup F1 is in pieces right now awaiting it's 2.4 transplant so it's no biggie if he doesn't allow it, I'll conform to what's there.
And yes... you and your buddy are my new friendly F1 nemesis's (nemesee?... nemesi?...) I owe you guys. ;) I got Jon back in HFAY this month... it seemed to be more based around handling issues for him though, but I'll take it! :D
Planning to dust off the Mod cars tomorrow... see if I can get them up to speed for this event. Still wondering what to do about the 18th scale but either way, just happy to know I'll be able to almost all of the classes this event.
Cya soon!

Guys,
I will have to trust you on this. I have made the 2.4 legal for STOCK and subsequently F1. I didn't think the 2.4 board would have a big impact but with only one week out I will have to say that...
2.4 boards and a 1x1 of 4562's will both be legal for STOCK and F1 cats..
Becuase of this we will likely need to look at FETs after the mains if someone really runs off with it or if someone complains. After all this is a charity event, but I know the gearshifts are "legendary"
Sorry if this chaps anyone but I can tell you now that I will be running a 3010 PCB in stock (at least that's my excuse).:D
Drive safely (the 1:1 scale that is),

I ran my F1 with the 2.4 in it yesterday, as opposed to the single layer 4562 ESC I had put in it earlier in the week and I will say that it is very close to what it was with the single layer... but the lack of the glitch is priceless. I should have done this a while ago! The 2.4 is truly at home in the F1, no wild swing steer glitching and an even tempered throttle is perfect for this chassis.
I plan to try both my 3010 ESC and a single layer in Stock before the racing to see what's fair. I have a feeling that the single layer should be very even with the 2.4s. I plan to chase Larry around for a bit to see what happens, he's all 2.4 now, plus I've been racing with him for a while so i'll be able to gauge any advantage a little easier.

Can't make it down then, but you can bet on us scratching at the doors early Saturday morning for sure.
I ran the single layer in the Stock 2WD last night... not as smooth as my 3010 car, a little quicker but fast doesn't win races. I'll run this one with Larry to see if there's an advantage over the 2.4s. I don't think there will be, but who knows!

See you in the AM. We'll be opening the doors at 8am but likely will be there at 7:30am organizing our team.
I'm racing stock as well so if you need me to block Larry when you two lap me just let me know. I take cash or check:D

The time has arrived...
Just a reminder that tomorrow is practice from 5pm-9pm.
Doors open Saturday at 8am with the first race starting at 10am.
For those who have not been to Bowles Fluidics it is on Dobbin Road in Columbia Maryland. This area has very little signage (thanks to city covenants) so you might just drive right past our building. We will be putting out signs to make it easier to find but if you are really lost please feel free to call my cell phone (410-562-8346).
Also when you enter our drive take a left to go to the front of the building. Then the entrance for the track is immediatly on your right. I will leave the door open to make it obvious where you need to come in.
See you soon,
Russ

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners!
Russ, once again you've put on a wonderful event. thank you very much!
to those who missed it this year, you really did miss out. to the new drivers, glad to have met you and i look forward to seeing you next year!
despite loosing out 3rd place in the f1 main (not to say i would have finished in 3rd..) due to breaking another side plate i really enjoyed myself and that far outweighs any disappointment in getting knocked out of a race. it happens and it just wasn't my day for f1 having been nocked out of two races due to breaking a side plate. i'e never broken one of those before and yesterday i broke two... sometimes you just have that kind of luck. the upside of this is fellow drivers helped out with spare parts to keep me going. having never broken one before, so i never had extra's. that to me says a lot about the type of people and event it was. f1 racing is soo much fun!
i saw far less carnage this year than the pervious year although there was a dreaded fet board fire taking out a car. you really hate to see that happen to anyone.
next year, i plan on running at least 3 classes. i'll proably add 2wd mod. i have not driven my awd enough this year to be comfortable with it at all.
food was great as usual! weather was awsome! people were great! one of the best events you can attend in my opinion.

Once again the NCRC crew just outdid themselves again!
To all you people who missed the event, I'm going to pick on you all now...
The prizes were insane! I think everyone walked away with something, and not just trinkets either! Here's a quick list of what I remember:
Wide L RCP track
2.4 RTR MiniZ
RTR Rock crawler (Losi?)
RTR Kyosho 10th scaler
RTR Nitro car (not sure of the make)
18th scale Scalpel
Tony Stewart autographed helmet
Danica Patrick autographed mini helmet
Cal Ripken autographed baseball
3 or 4? NIB Autoscales
Team Scream matched cell set
GRP foam tire sets for everyone!
Tons of very cool extras... I can't even come close to remembering everything, but to watch guys walk out the door with armloads of all kinds of free gear was insane! Technically, their gas money and entry fees were more than covered with what they won! All of us DOW guys walked out of there with some very cool stuff and they fed us for the day and clothed us once again for the cold winter ahead!
Thanks to Russ and all of the NCRC crew, a great cause undertaken for a dear friend, I couldn't think of a greater crew to carry his light!

EVERYONE,
You made it a great event. We would simply have an empty room with prizes without you guys and you gave the spectators their money's worth (well admission was free, but you get my point).
The fellowship among the MiniZ/Micro racers is unmatched and your generosity made this event a TOTAL success.
Our goal was to raise $2500, and given these economic times we were delighted to keep counting all the way to $2298!!!
Ed, just to help add to your list:
Spektrum Radio System
Spektrum Micro Reciever
Team Scream 15T motors
Dynamite Driver sets (3x)
Losi Rock Crawler RTR
The Nitro Kit was a Kyosho Mini Inferno (with engine)
Autographed T-shirts
AutoArt Clocks (F1 Steering wheel style & Brake Disc style)
Helios Castroneves autographed mini helmet - its easier to remember the Danica one.:D
Insane prizes were all thanks to our sponsors who all pulled through in an obviously difficult year:
Kyosho
AutoArt
Spektrum
MiniZRacer/TinyRC
GRP Gandini Tyres
Ripken Baseball
CoreSpeedway
RCP Tracks
RC Car Action
HobbyTown USA - Glen Burnie
Team Scream
Bowles Fluidics Corp (facility and t-shirts)
and
Chicken Out Restaurants - Columbia
It is a promise that next year will be just as good and maybe this time we will have that live band during Friday night's practice.
Things ran fairly smooth with only one hiccup to think of. I can't speak for others car problems but lets just say I borrowed a car for the MiniZ Stock A Main.
More info will be posted on our website and official pictures will be exclusively here at MiniZRacer.com. ARCH - Please setup gallery and I will add pics.
Once again, thank YOU for coming. We had everyone return from last year except 4 people. I hope those guys can make it next time around. DoW and NoVa racers were well represented and walked away with alot of metal. Good driving guys.
In the meantime, enjoy racing and we hope to host the DC Endurance Race again in 2009.
With Sincere Thanks,
Russ
p.s. We are running out of ideas for prizes so please put some thought to that and let me know. The sky is the limit (excl. a real car).

Well I have to say I had a great time at the race! Everything was top notch. Russ and the staff did an excellent job of facilitating the event.
The coolest thing for me was putting a face to some of the names here on the forum. It was great meeting all you guys.
Oh yeah, did I mention all of the cool prizes and great food. My buddy and I walked away with at least $400.00 worth of prizes!
The only thing that would have made things any better is if I could have gotten one of the cool trophies for crappiest driver or something.
Any way, I hope things are well with all in Mini-z land. Hope to see some of you soon at Necokon!
