View Full Version : Home made Mini-Z AWD SETUP BOARD...

Ok , I was looking for a setup board for my AWD , but looking in the net all I find was expensive plates for such a simple design....
I thought it was very easy to fabricate a simple board with improved design....
So I decided to draw several CAD patterns and completed with useful information like gear ratios , travels , rim ETs...
(Those things that make you stop driving to look for the user manual and check this ratio , axle width...)
I have printed a standard DIN A4 format with a preliminary design , you can let me know what you think , what you miss or what would you modify to improve it...
I can upload a PDF version so you can print directly in the exact scale.
(A MR-02 version is also possible....)

Sorry for the pics quality but were made with my phone...

This a is simple paper sheet but can be plastified to last longer.. or put it under a thin cristal/clear plastic.
This is a reduced version I made to put under my parts box cover....
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3499/dsc02374bt8.jpg

The idea is to glue a "L" shaped guide over the box cover to align the chassis...
In this way the chassis can be mounted and aligned easily.

Charge 50 cents per file! LOL! Pretty cool idea. What would be cooler if that could be lazer etched on an aluminum slab like the Atomic or PN set up boards.

Ok boys...
If you like this version and dont want any modification , I will upload the final version here.

Only thing I see not clear is the width increments... , I have done 2mm increments (one mm each side), 65 , 67,69,71,73,75,77,79...
And when I fit a 1,5mm ET rims --> 68mm witdth , there is no marks for this width...
But 0,5mm of separation betwen lines is dificult to see the marks....

Give me some time to do the MR-02 version.

And donīt worry this is for free... I do it beacuse I love these RC cars...! not to do business.

Hi Danieluki

What size paper did you print this on to keep the scale measurements correct? Also, thanks for sharing.

I'd still laser etch it on a slab of aluminum with that L-shaped bar you mentioned machined ontop of it. I'd also raise it a tad so that the wheels are off the ground so you can run/test the car. That will last a lot longer and be more durable than a peice of paper. Granted, it'll cost more, but I think it'll be worth some money!
What is the dimension of that platform your printout is on?
What about for MR15 as well?

VERY cool. Even just to hang on a wall as display/art. Maybe even enlarge it...hmmm? :)

Excited for a .pdf

Danieluki,

this is an excellent idea!
Hard to give advices to improve it because the paper is nicely filled.
Adding more would destroy the professional look.

Of course the exploded view would be nice. But there's not much space for it and it would look very crowded.
Also the set_up pdf's from Kyosho for grip & drift setup could be an option.
But where?

I gues you should leave it like it is and everyone can decide individually what to add or not.

Thanks for sharing ;)

danieluki,

That is a great idea, and looks like it is nicely executed!

If I were to suggest anything, is to have another 'crowded' version and a gear ratio chart including 3rd market gears(such as PN 16, 18, 20, 3racing, atomic; I remembered someone in the AWD subforum made a more comprehensive chart), and most definitely the exploded view on the steering gears/sevro saver part.

And if we could put wheel offset numbers, next to the tires width, even better.

Thank you for the hard work, and definitely look forward to your finished product!

bravo!!! nicely done :D maybe a spring color chart by famous brands such as Kyosho, Atomic and PN's? micro printing of those should be more than enough

very nice!! Great work! Would love to receive a beta version...

Some suggestions:
- there is a set up sheet available from reflex racing. You could use items from this one to complete yours.

-besides the widths, is there a reference to off-sets as well, cant see it on the pics. This would make a quick determination of offset of installed rims easy.

Keep up the good work!!
Best,

Not a problem, there is free software available to convert dwg to e.g. jpg which can be printed by almost everybody.

If you sent it I could also try to convert it for you.

Best,

I'm repeating my selfe, but I'd still love to see an aluminum version made with the graph laser etched on it. Sure it'll be more expensive, but I bet you can sell a ton of theme, and they will last alot longer than just a peice of paper! Maybe have the slab of aluminum in shiny silver with the graphics colored and perhaps offer different colors? Or am I just dreaming here? Anyway, think about it some more................Would be alot more usefull than the blank set up boards we've already got.

id like a mr-02 setup up sheet(board)

i have an account at filesavr.com if you need a place to upload it to where everyone can just download from. probably do it as a zip folder would be best, than make it as a pdf file, which always seems to be best to print at the original size.

@danieluki
Post it as a DWG. We (the forum) could work together on it, open source rulez ;)

2009.07.15, 07:30 AM
Ok , sorry but I īve been out of the hobby looong time.....:(

Here is the last version I made....
Let me know what you think of it and what would you change.
Just download the PDF and print in real scale....
http://www.scribd.com/doc/17371439/Setup-Boardtrial-Ver
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9151/52920496.jpg

I have added a "toe in" scale for front and rear axles , and a slot mark to align correctly the chassis on the board , you only have to stick a "T" or "L" shaped piece (19x1,5mm) over the mark.
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/3494/dibujocqj.jpg
I am refering to this slot:
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5181/slotv.jpg

I dont have any MR02 to test so I didnt any board for them... but wait I'll try one pre-version ;) .

I cant get it to print out to scale. From the link you posted, I can only get it to print 1/4 of the page, and its huge!!! If I save it from the pic you posted, its blurry, and about 2% off :(

OMG!!! Love the home made setup board you made. I Wish i can get one of that setup board.:D Won't it be cool if you can make one for MR-02 also. So, that when you flip it on the back side it will be MR02 and AWD on the front at the same pit board.
