Let's talk about setups and overall drifting, I would like to learn more about the art of r/c drifting.

This is what I am going to start with:

Chassis
MA01 ASF
Stock springs and diffs
Kyosho 8mm drift tires

Motor:
X-speed V / Custom S02

Body:
Lancia Delta Rally

I am going to rearch a little more on the subject, hope to contribute soon.
in the meantime feel free to speak

i would go with a torquey motor like the Atomic stock r or the PN speedy. you can try the stock diffs but i would go with ball diffs or play with different viscosity greases in the gear diffs, following as i said in the other thread to have the front end with less diff action to keep drifts controlled but loose enough to have entry steering and be able to transition. good luck.

i'm also in the process of building a drift only ma-010 and will be following this intently.

besides performace upgrades, what light kits offers the best experience? i've seen plenty of fancy blinking sets on drift videos.

what bodies are light kit friendly? it seesm like many of the latest styles are not suitable for light kits.

@arch
I know the DTM audis are light friendly, and so are the lancias (I own both so i looked) anything else I think you can just carefully drill.

I just ordered an atomic light kit, I will post a review in comparison to the Kyosho brand name one.

Yo mikey how does it drift with the xspeed??? or do you recomend another motor??

supafastsupra2
2008.12.01, 08:00 PM
go with a stock-r or similar. the x speeds use ferrite magnets instead of neo's like on most mod motors, so they are less torquey

lnc0321
2008.12.01, 09:05 PM
Thanks Danny:) Im going to try to pass by tomorrow for a bit...

mikey
2008.12.01, 11:29 PM

Had to do some emergency Xmas decorations at my girls house:D

wooooosh wooooshh ! my wifey comes to "watch" me mini-z
last night, she was online helping one of her friend do a weeding registry haha.

Well I drove the AWD, it needs a little work specially since I change chassis and some suspension components. But overall Im happy and laptimes improved. As far as drifting as soon as my tires come in im gonna to start. I am actually considering Mikes idea to use electrical tape on some old tires to "fake" it.

Well today was my first time at the track and all I have to say is that I cant wait to go again:D Great track, hobby shop and atmosphere. Everyone is super nice and the track layout is awesome. Also there is a lot of space to setup and the bathroom is super close to the track:D Love the way my AWD was drifting but I still need some practice and my 2wd handle good as well. Just need to get a better motor in there. My stock motor is way to slow:eek: I should go again Saturday to relief some stress. I forgot how much fun Mini z were.

P.S.

Profox thanks for the tires;)

ProfoxCG

;) ur welcome, well I have to say the FETS I installed are great, very smooth and lots of punch / power. Battery run time is a little less than usual but its not a bad trade off.

ProfoxCG

yes they do

ProfoxCG
2008.12.09, 11:04 PM
Well although my chassis is NOT going to be the "dedicated" drift chassis, I managed drift nicely. I made one subble change to the rear end geometry I have not touched the diffs since they work for my all race set up (that I was working on for the F430). Anyway, I have been practicing sunday night and bit last night on my tile floor (which is not very good) and tonight I am getting the hang of initiating a drift and hold it in.

I need tons of practice still and ofcourse the right setup for me to be able to "guide" into where I want to go, but its a start. I have to say it is very very very relaxing, more than grip driving. I have to say I enjoy it very much.

Later in the session, I changed tires. I am not sure what degree they are - but they are either 20 or 30 deg. anyhow, changed from the drift tires to the rubbers and did a few laps. The car had too much steering but I contolled it pretty well, and I ran the lancia with great success. My goal was to make it around the track "in-traffic" at a fast pace without traction rolling.

We should have a race with narrow bodies. (they look the most to scale)

mikey
2008.12.10, 12:56 AM
im getting better at drifting the mini z

its pretty relaxing actually.

lnc0321
2008.12.11, 08:57 PM
Yo mikey ur car drives awesome. I need to start working on mines:D

Profox, I am having problems with my awd steering, it wont center. I think is the servo saver, like most of the ma010. Do you have an extra servo saver that you can sell me before I order one?

ProfoxCG
2008.12.11, 11:07 PM
hey mike, yes your car is stable and almost ready for thursday.
Leo i have to work on mine too haha, ever since i took it apart to make it into a drifter, now that it is back to "race spec" its not the same.. I am having some serious issues.

I have a servo saver, ill be there saturday and ill bring it for you.

lnc0321
2008.12.12, 05:34 AM
Thanks Profox, Is it a new one?? Mikey was telling me that you also had problems with your ma010 steering not centering. So did the new servo saver solve the problem?? Thanks ;)

ProfoxCG
2008.12.12, 12:05 PM
Thanks Profox, Is it a new one?? Mikey was telling me that you also had problems with your ma010 steering not centering. So did the new servo saver solve the problem?? Thanks ;)

yes it solved it, I will look at your car on sat if you want. I have the SS its new but its not in the box anymore. IF you need me too ill sell it to you.

lnc0321
2008.12.12, 12:32 PM
Cool, Ill pass by for a bit on Saturday... Is that the SS that you took out of your ma010? Or you got some spare ones?

ProfoxCG
2008.12.12, 01:43 PM
I threw away the one i had (defective one) this is from a new package of spare parts, but i used the spare parts. ill let you try it out if you want. If it works just order a spare parts package and "pay me back a servo saver"

Also, make sure your suspension arms are not twisted from impact, I have that problem recently and that make my steering bind and not center back properly. BTW guys im selling some alum. cambered knuckles unused.

lnc0321
2008.12.12, 01:55 PM
Thank you sir. Ill bring you the money tomorrow:D By the way at what time are you going 2morrow??
