View Full Version : Stock shocks sometimes stuck fully compressed...fix for it?

Hey guys,

I have noticed in some used, and even brand new Overlands, that the stock shocks sometimes get stuck when fully compressed? I'd like to remedy this without buying the more expensive oil shocks or tuned shock sets.

Is there a simple fix, like sanding down the pillow balls, or opening up the upper plastic shock hole so the metal shock shaft travels through it more easily?

Thanks.

You might want to try our some sort of limiter on the shaft to keep the shock from fully compressing. I dont have an OL, but I had to something similar on my crawler when I bent a shock shaft.

Well, you could try to sand down the shock arm (The screw that holds the two ends of the shock together) and try to use some car wax to make it more slick.

Otherwise, I would say to take a piece of heat shrink, or a coffe straw and put it between the two pieces of the shock to limit the suspension travel. This is exactly what hrdrvr said, and is like the opposite of the lowering modification.
