you have to use the enter hosted image here tags

click quote on my post above with the pictures and look at how it was done. pretty simple. the images have to be hosted on the web somewhere. You can attach them and then use the image tags to display them in the post as well.

With the PN front tires, I true them flat, then groove them again. . . Gives them a lot more grip.

Those are Atomic 30's on the front, they come with deep grooves (and can last for a year!), so no re-grooving.

That's an old picture though. Currently I'm running Kyosho 30F and PN 6R. The Kyosho 30's wear out faster, but have excellent grip. Almost too good, I may have to go 40's.

Always liked the look of these but worried about clipping corners with one. Picked up two F1s on line for $89 recently. Found out I was worried about nothing. The one below is basically stock. Bearings, Atomic bumper, lugnuts, Kyosho 20s R and 30s F installed. Shimmed the rear wheels and polished the king pins. Car is fun. Kind of slow. The other F1 is a Ferrari. It really screams. I need to throw a little more money at it to complete it. Will post pics when its done.

Heres the other one. The body is rough, but to me its still sexy. More importantly its hella fun to drive. Its plenty fast and corners flat. Why did I wait so long to get one? I still pucker up when I tag a wall or clip a corner but so far so good. :)

It may not be the prettiest car, but it can move. The fast lap was 11.0s in stock 2wd MR02 (mine was 11.2s), I pulled an 11.4s lap with this bad boy. Both used the ATM Standard Race USA handout motor. I am going to try to see if I can find the laptimes for my ATM motormount F1 that had the steering lock up and force me to switch to my backup project car that I built last night. I had just received the car from Pinoyboy a couple days ago. There were low entries at the Atomic race for F1, and I wanted to build it up so someone else could race it for the 2nd day of the race. Its a good thing that I did, because I needed it. Running 4 classes, I didnt have time to rebuild the servo assembly, so I went to the backup car, and it was good from the moment it hit the track. No tweak, just too much Virtual Inertia for my driving style. The car also came with grooved front tires on, I normally use slicks, so it is a different driving style. I felt that my other car was more consistent for my driving style. I think this car is best suited for tight layouts, where my ATM mount car with slicks is best suited for flowing tracks. This setup is very planted, my ATM setup for me more is balanced overall. But this was just the test drive for this car.

Parts list:
PN motormount
Atomic DDS plate and standoff
Kawada DDS discs, post and springs
red alloy front suspension travel limiters (dont know what company makes them, found them in the parts bin)
ATM F1 ball diff 64p
ATM Race USA handout motor
2d kyosho knuckles
yellow front sprins
PN 15d front/Kyosho 20d rear tires
Kyosho CF side plate suspension
Bearings, of some sort (dont know, bought used)

Well after return from my 20th Canadian F1GP in last weekend which Hamilton won it for the second time,
I finally caved & picked up a SP Limited of Hamilton's 07 MP4-22 along with my rest of tracked Mini Z collection. Maj's was nice enough to installed my old MR-02's 2.4Ghz ASF board since I upgraded my MR-02 with O3 board. Also end up upgrading w/ Kyosho Ball Diff, Carbon Flexiable Plates & GPM 1 Deg. Knuckles with Stainless King Pins. I originally expected it to be horrible drive in comparing to my MR02 or 03's but I am kind of surprised that it drives and handle pretty good with speed from gearing up the stock Kyosho X-speed motor after the tires started to be broken in on track. So will see how far I will get with this before close to even think about entering an event.

rensuchan, i just take my time, i have gobs of pictures and i try and get as close as possible. the main thing is finding the right paint/decals, especially the pewter color, i ended up using SPAZ ! i painted the main body four times before i got it to look how i wanted. i had to sand it comletely down each time. the base color under chrome/pewter paint is very important, i ended up using a metalic black laquer. decals are from Patto's place in australia.
Mach i am caught up on pretty much everything, im not going to make up random copies, but i will create one for anyone who wants it!! i enjoy doing it. i have my virgin car that i will sell for 80.00 shipped and it comew with the rear carbon wing and front V2 bumper.

I will gather all your hop up parts for my virgin SP1 chassis so far since I met Matt from N. Thanks for the offer but not much fan of VIRGIN since they are 4 sec. behind the rest in real life! Marcus- the rims are just plastic Kyosho rims. Off hand, dont know the style....ill have to check.

Chad - Right now all the damper is.....the new Kyosho disc damp. minus the upper and lower narrow carbon plates, then added a PN damp. post, plates, springs. Its a work in progress. Runs good on my little track but not sure about a big track. If you still want pics, i can.;)

Looks nice but better get a real bumper, not the kyosho standard one.
Your Front wing will not last a lap around the track.
Love F1 to the max, hate driving this even with all the goodies parts
since very inconstant handling in comparing to other Mini Z chassis.

nice rides guys, any of you try the tri-shock yet? OP be prepared for the tweak, it will drive you crazy, if it does crazy left turns ,shim under the right side motor mount.

where did you get the Rossi stickers? i need some for my RCbike!

I haven't tried the mantis tri shock, but I must say, a tri shock is totally necessary on the F1. Since modding one onto my car, it is more consistent and handles a lot more power. I snapped some pics this afternoon and wanted to share. This is my F1 in high down force mode :)

I was really going to try and keep it under wraps until I could get a chance to run it at a big race. It could actually give me the advantage I need to get past a few of my close rivals :D It looks like I am missing out on most of the big races this year, so I may let it fly anyway. Check your PMs for one pic though :D

Update since my last post...

Lost a lot of aero bits while racing it here in Toronto at MC3, and I've made a lot of changes to get it to run better. It's still a handful to control, but that's what makes the F1 so much fun to drive and race :). It also somehow always ends up managing faster lap times than my MR03 despite being 30-40 grams heavier and using only an X-speed.

One main change was installing stainless front king pins and metal knuckles. The stock front suspension was just too sticky, even after polishing the king pins. Now it's super smooth.

The other big thing was softening up the rear end to get some much needed rear grip. In stock form, it's really stiff in roll yet soft in bump. I tried to remedy that as much as possible by using CF side plates (with no springs) but added a top shock to keep the car from sagging. An important thing to note is that I only used one set of screws for the plates on the chassis side, to make it even softer.

Oh, and I picked up a front Mantis bumper to help with the RCP rails. Sorry Marcus, but this bumper design is a piece of crap... I just had to use it for lack of a better choice. The makeshift front wing CF pieces that come with it are useless (not to mention ugly) and would obviously break off from a single collision. And the whole thing is only held on by a single long screw (which isn't even included) which replaces the screw for the tie rod clip/holder. You can't even crank this screw all the way down either because the screw hole is sunk for the head of the stock screw to sit inside.

I would have really preferred a piece that simply mounts like the stock bumper but is wider & higher at the same time (like the Mantis one) to help with the RCP rails. Right now I've managed to get the front wing to sit on top of the Mantis bumper with a bit of shaving, but now the wing is only held onto the chassis by one screw and no longer screwed into the bumper. The front of the wing sticks out as well, so there's not much protection in frontal collisions.

well there is an easy fix to that....take the entire bumper off! piece of crap is harsh and this has been the same design for two years. why dont you put your time in effort into making your own product instead of bashing someone elses. And the last time i checked the stock bumper is also held on by one screw, why supply one when the stock one works? look at the history of what I have done for mini z F1, if i didnt make that piece of crap what would you do? i can answer that, you would be buying clear plastic bumper guards and getting stuck on the rails. maybe if you read a little bit you would notice that the V1 bumper is designed more for racing and the V2 was designed more for looks............

Wow that was a fast reply. No need to get all riled up :p

I'm just not a fan of this bumper design, plain and simple. I wish there were more alternatives, but I understand that the Mini Z F1 isn't that big of a market. And no I'm not going to design my own.

Btw, you must have been hasty in your reply because I'm sure you know better than anyone that the stock bumper is not held on by a single screw.

While the Mantis front bumper is held on by one screw, it is 100x more durable than the stock bumper, and it does not stick in the rails nearly as bad as the stock one either. I only use the V1, as it is designed more for racing than its looks. The V2 works better than stock, but not as well as the V1 for me. In my time using the Mantis bumpers (which is a lot), I have only broken one, and it is still usable.

You can easily drill 2 holes into the bumper, and use washers if needed to mount the front wing to the bumper.

The stock bumper is held on by 2 screws, but would be better off held on by double sided tape since they break so easily. I used to go through at least one if not two stock bumpers at every event that I raced F1 at. At stock speeds, or with an X-Speed, it works fine, but at modified speeds, it gets obliterated very easily. The Mantis bumper has been proven durable, even with its one screw design. It is not designed to be used with the stock wing, but replace it. Which is why the V2 was created to increase front downforce comparable to what the stock wing does as well as look more similar to the current style wings.

To call it crap is insulting to Mantis, and everyone that helped develop the product. It may not be exactly what you want, but in reality, it is the best bumper on the market for the F1. You can easily add two more mounting points by drilling holes in the bumper and screwing into the two holes that the stock bumper mounts. I was a little wary when I first got the bumper as well, but in my testing it proved to be MUCH stronger than I had first anticipated. While I did crack a clear chassis, it was after many hits, and the the car was used a lot for testing and racing. The black chassis is much stronger, and does not show any signs of stress near the mounting point.

Most manufacturers have pulled out of F1. I think the only one left developing parts is 3Racing, which R246 has copied and re-badged like most of their other products.

You're right EMU, the Mantis bumper is the best I've used to date. It's not fair for me to rag on it without mentioning the shortcomings of others (which are much worse ;)).

The stock bumper mounts with two screws to the chassis and another two to the front wing for good rigidity. The black plastic version is actually stronger than it looks, but offers no protection from getting stuck under RCP rails. It extends past the front of the wing for frontal protection, but offers no protection for the sides and isn't wide enough to prevent the front wheels from snagging.

The clear Atomic bumper is a little bit better, and mounts identically to stock. It does protect the side of the the wing and is raised all around to help with RCP rails. However, it still isn't wide enough, isn't very pretty and the plastic gets stress cracked after a while.

The Mantis V2 bumper is wide enough and offers the best RCP protection compared to the other two. However, I wish it was made to work with the stock front wing and mounted more similarly to stock. Most guys I know end up putting the stock front wing on top of the bumper anyways, since the CF aero pieces are useless since they break off so easily (it's also nice to run unadulterated autoscales :)).

To me, it seems like a lot of work and thought was put into shaping the CF aero pieces for the Mantis bumper, instead of then mounting design (which to me is much more important). Maybe some of these considerations can be taken into account for the next iteration of the bumper for the picky ones like me :p. It shouldn't be too hard to change the shape of the bumper plate a little to add a few extra holes and to ditch the CF aero bits, right (could even be cheaper to make)? Mantis V3 bumper? :D

Sorry for drifting off topic in a picture thread.
