I know this has been asked a million times but, when you are breaking in your brushes I have read that it takes 1.5 hours. Are you running the motor for that long or are you taking breaks in between?

There are many schools of thought on seating brushes and the time needed is determine by, among other things wet dip vs dry break-in and composition of brush compound and for that mater commutator composition.

I never let a motor go on without checking it often but 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs at very low voltage is fine, generally. I could recommend a techtip/tutorial on reflexracing.net that explains a technique very well and they are multiple world champs there so they are worth listening to. I have a somewhat different approach but it takes an additional 4 hours or so. But I love playing with the motor battery thing so it indulges me and I am retired so I have a little time on my hands.
