I'm in, that weekend is good for me. I have the trailer built I just need to add a hitch and wheels. The important parts.:p

Anyone goin to awesome this weekend just for the hell of it? If so, anyone up for saturday vs usual sunday since its a longer day?

arch2b
2009.05.26, 04:20 PM
everyone getting thier trailers ready? i've got to finish adding ballast but i'm good to go.

i suggest you make the trailer hitch fairly robust to avoid loosing your trailer. you don't want to have to chase your car around constantly reattaching your trailer.

I'm working on mine right now, did your wire trailer hitch work? I'm planning on doing the same thing. Thanks.

arch2b
2009.05.26, 04:55 PM
yep, i just didn't pinch the loop tight enough so any rear end collision would send the trailer hitch loop back thru the attaching loop on my motor mount.

the same thing can be made for those with a stock motor mount, just wind the screw loops to the h plate.

for the awd, use the rear bumper screw points.

Tempted to just use the dummy chassis itself without the rear end lol. Maybe a white body box w/ wheels. Do we have ANY weight restrictions for these things or not really?

Igor, I don't think that there was any weight restrictions for the trailer race. I should be able to make this race but I haven't even started to make a trailer yet :(..

As Igor and TheRinger already know my trailer is constructed, and it tested pretty darn well last weekend. In fact, I'm really surprised how well it worked considering the small amount of time I put into building it. Just needs a paint job to be ready.

I think it might be useful (and fun) to require everyone to attach their core tags to the trailer. :D

arch2b
2009.05.27, 12:52 PM
only requirement is that it be roughly 3"x6" or approximate size of a mini-z.

i like the idea for the core tag. makes it necessary to keep your trailer to have your laps count.

i will give everyone a generic transponder to use for this as they are almost disposable. we can use flipside and run with creative names to call out as well :)

Don't forget about the NSX and maybe the Maha, still have em.

I'll build my trailer today/morrow and will probably use my blue motor wires to connect. If not, maybe those red wire/paper ties you get @ grocery stores for produce.

I'm still interested in the Maha charger Igor, the NSX body I might get off you sometime later.

Unfortunately, I just found out that I won't be able to make this event, hope you guys have fun without me, maybe someone will take pics of all the trailers, I'd love to see them...

It sucks that U won't be able 2 make it man. I just picked up all the stuff 2 make my trailer last night but don't think I will have it together in time. Its been a little busy lately. But I should still be there regardless, hopefully in my new ride.:D

I went ahead with a newer Az Tea water bottle- rigid and ribbed. Just gonna paint the thing and attach it to my 02, maybe MA.

thank you to those that came to race today! it was really a race to have fun more than how many laps we got and to that effect, i think it was very successful. we certainly had fun driving them around, with a good measure of frustration at times.:p

oh, i ordered another 25 of the rectangular generic rfid tags tonight. given small size and cheap cost, we should try to use these for club events. at less than .80 each, we can afford to loose them.

We should try it out, it would be nice to use the small ones for F1. It looks like they will fit under the front wing.

Thanks for posting the video Arch. Good job to Ian for towing past all of us to the victory.:p

You guys are a trip! That was awesome! Who was rocking the huge trailer with the VDS? That was the funniest thing to see. The couple tuber style trailers looked the fastest. Was that Skv's trueno out there ripping up laps? It looked like his was the fastest from the vids, but one of the vidoes was a little biased towards following him ;)

Which one was Ian?

arch2b

it was genuinely fun.

mine: gt-r with white rounded camper trailer
ian: reknown lmn with black bbq can trailer with smoke stack
igor: ae86 with painted can trailer
bill: white vds with container trailer
matt: red mcalren with blue car transport trailer

It started its life as a budweiser trailer but I had 2 cut it down 2 half the original size due 2 being 2 top heavy and generally 2 heavy. I was going 2 buy a 1/32 kenworth truck model and rig it up 2 go on a mr02 but didn't have the time since I built that trailer the morning of the race so I ended up drilling a hole in the back of the VDS awd chassis and using that instead:).

I probably would've rivaled the first place if it wasn't for 2 dead battery sets that I had to replace during the race. My trailer's attachment was probably the most messy one, but it was firm and allowed the trailer to stay on. 40 tires helped too by letting it slip and grip just enough not to flip.

anyone up for another trailer race? :p SLMZ has a template (http://www.mini-az.com/Downloads/GCR_Trailer_Template.pdf)... or can set min. size and weight similar to last time and let everyone get creative.

perhaps we run it on a stock day and make it a mod class event? i would lead more toward the min. size/weight just to see what everyone comes up with :p

i would recommend making a thin cardboard box or frame to apply the skin over so as to be durable enough to survive the race. ;)

arch2b
2016.04.18, 07:15 PM
i'll have some wire on hand to make any trailer hitches needed or remake any as needed.

KWT
2016.04.20, 08:44 PM
Any setup hints? Wide or Narrow tires and what degree of softness?
Does the trailer need some weight in it?

arch2b
2016.04.21, 07:20 AM
not to much to do. too lite and it just wags around, too heavy and it slows your car down. just keep it heavy enough to keep planted and have a good time :p
i wouldn't worry about tires for the trailer so much, other than to say, 40deg would be to hard making the trailer slide around behind you which will throw off your line. i'm sure we will see a variety of wheel combinations used ranging from F1, LM to classic tires/wheels.
we will have to ensure the track change for this race suits the character of the race. can't put too many twisty turns in or it's make it look like a demolition derby.

most important tip for the day, enjoy the race :D
