i have been into mini z's for about 6 months now and i am wanting to upgrade to 2.4 Ghz and im on a tight budget. i was wondering if i should get the KT-18 for $80 or the old mars for around $20 plus the $80 module. my main question here is if the KT 18 is any good because i cant afford a helio

If I were you I would just save up and get a used helios and the module. But if I had to choose between the two, I would get the old mars and the module for now so you can have some sort of adjustability.

i got a helios ex10 new for 280 or so. I'm usually not one to spend that much but what you may want to know is....i just hated the kt18 that much. now the kt18 just gets tossed around in my car next to tools and junk.

no brainer! get the mars!

you made it sound like you could get one for $20. idk how cheap they are but couple guys i race with have them.

do you race? in what way do you use your Z's? If you ever get competitive you will probly just end up buying a ex1/ex10 or mars. If your competitors aren't that competitive and you dont care much about fine adjustment, get a kt18. Also if you dont tape the kt18 so it cant quite reach its limits, it will cut out on you when you use rechargeables cause the voltage dumps quick. kt18 has soft spring

ah another 2.4ghz convert... :D have you tried out the whole 2.4ghz package? chassis and tx? it is a great upgrade... now on to your question...

guess it depends on what you're doing, and what you plan to do...
in the past six months, have you been just bashing around or have you done any serious racing?

for me the kt-18 is pretty much ok... because i haven't been doing any racing lately...

however, if you do plan on some racing, and decide on picking up an old ko propo ex-1 (mars) make sure that the asf module works with the ex-1 (mars)...

i just checked their site... ko propo page (http://www.kopropo.com/america/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=121)

"RF-901SM 2.4GHz SS Module for Mini-Z - 2.4GHz module for the Kyosho Mini-Z. This module will work for the following radio systems; EX-1 Mars (R), EX-10 Helios, Esprit 3 Universe and EX-1 UR."

to my knowledge there are two versions of the mars... the ex-1 (mars) and the ex-1 (mars r)... i figure the asf should be backwards capable... but i guess it wouldn't hurt to ask ko propo if the asf module would work in their ex-1 (mars) as well...

hope this helps... :D

i do race but i am a beginner looking to convert so i can adjust more and so i dont have to keep buying ready sets which cost more than the 2.4 chassis sets.

i cant figure out where to get a mars though the owner of the shop i race at said that i could find a used Mars for around $20-$30 with an $80 module. i dont really have a ton of money b/c i am 14 with no real income so i am trying to find a good way to convert to 2.4

Zach: It's $20-$30 for the old mars and another $80 for the module. So you're looking at $110. You can use my helios at the shop anytime you're there. Just let me know.

If the choice is KT-18 or Mars/module, I would go with the Mars.

There's no way an old, but still sophisticated TX like Mars is 30$. UR is 150+, so that should put Mars around 80$ at the very least, no?

Zach: Don't buy the kt-18. It's a waste of money! Talk to me over the weekend and I'll take care of you. EX-1 UR BABEE!!!!

so if the Mars is 80 that means 160 total for the remote and another 90 for the board which is 250 yow well better start makin some money.

old mars is $20-30 not $80. $80 for the module +$30 for the radio= $110.
