I just built a motor break-in stand (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/album.php?u=11533). Sine it does not have to be used too ofen, I wanted it to be as tiny as possible. The vertical plate was cut from a large plate of some sort of plastic, sandwiched between two thin aluminum plates (I did not glue them, just cut it with a mill). The horizontal base is sandwiched wood. The felt legs make the system run queitly.

Hope you like it.

simple, clean. i like it. do you use rubber bands between them?

Yes. I found them more appropriate for the tasks than gears for a couple of reasons.
First, they make the whole thing run queitly.
Second, they allow the motors to be positioned facing the same direction, which contributes to the small size. Using gears would require the motors to face each other, or the use of large gears (larger than the cans), which I did not care to start looking for.
So all in all rubber bands are up to it, and wear is not an issue, since you just use a new band for each break-in.
