View Full Version : Renault Megane race

I thought this would be a cool race 2 have as a spec race.
The rules won't be wildly different from other races I've set up with the exception of the following.....

Of coarse the only body allowed would be the TRP renault megane body.
U have 2 use all pieces that come with the body including rims.
U can't trim any part of the body 4 example, no trimming of the windows, corners, parts, etc.

There will be a weight limit 4 this race but not sure what it will be at this moment.

Spec motor. I was thinking speedy 07 bushing motor 4 this race.

Other then that fets, 1/28 scale chassis, and board are up 2 U. And of coarse the rules are up 4 changing if nobody likes them.

Any idea when the date of this race will be.

We just started a class at Action RC with these bodies, and its a lot of fun to drive. Very competetive as well. I dropped it on my f430GT chassis, and it handled even better. I made no change to the setup. More steering in general, and surprising stability. It doesnt have as much roll as I would have thought.

Using the stock wheels should not be a requirement. That rules out the AWD chassis entirely. +1mm offset on the front does not work. There is no clearance. The tire rubs even when the knuckle is as low as it can be. TRP was contacted, and they responded stating that they use different wheels when they race. Why they did not really test the body before production for compatability and either include 0mm front wheels or modify the front wheel wells baffles me. Even with 0mm wheels, I have to use the tallest travel limiters and use thin tires with reduced steering lock. That is the only issue that I have found so far. Maybe the new PN front body mount is the answer, to raise the front end enough that the wheel will clear...

arch2b
2009.08.16, 09:58 AM
thank you for bring the wheel issue up. after posting yesterday, i tried running it and indeed the stock wheels simply do not work on an mr-02 as they indeed hit the wheel well right as the fender flair meets the hood.

i too put positioned the body clips to get the back as low as possible and i still have plenty of space it seems.

thanks for the tip about the limiter, i'll have to dig a pair of those out and fit some 0 dish wheels or something. no way atomic ts wheels are going to fit under here unless you get -1 maybe. might be able to use a classic wheel with normal tires? the smaller diameter would allow you to keep a higher offset.

i have -1 up front currently and it still hits with relatively new tires. i have +2 rears that fit snug.

here is the pinch point, even with -1 wheels

Me and matt tested out these bodies and like everyone else, tire clearance in the front is an issue. I will lift the rim, body parts, and trimming rule. But there will be a 175 gram weight limit. That of coarse includes batteries.

TheRinger

Nope, didn't cross my mind 2 try that. I ran my set up with the wheels that came with the body and after a little trimming and using the tallest limiters, it still rubs a little but doesn't seem 2 effect it much. I also tried with and without the wing and it seem 2 drive better without it.

Not likely, it is currently just a club race, though of course anyone is invited.

Edit: If this works out well, I wouldn't mind making a series of it.

I'm good with that, just name the date. I take it we will hold this race at Awesoms rc?

I just ordered one for mine although at the track Saturday I was able to trim a little with a dremel and solve the issue.

Until I talked to Ringer this weekend I thought it was going to be a series, I must have gotten it mixed up with the bimmer one we were talking about.

One other thing we takled about was having a weight limit instead of not allowing modification to the body since me and Ringer both took a demel to the car to make the wheels clear the fenders. Also, the cars drive much better without the huge wing on the roof.

We decided the weight limit should be 175g. It would be tuff to get below this unless you took drastic measures. My car weighted 178g and Ringers was around 177g. This was without the rear wing.

i just use 0 offset for the front wheels, doesn't look so nice but it does handle well...less steering but once i remove the rear wing..it drives just as i want it...

Rear kyosho 20 and front PN 25:)

we here in Malaysia thinking of the same race too...

Arch2b,

Ringer was thinking late Sept. but the hfay is on the 19th so that would put the races back to back. How about the first Saturday in October, its the 3rd.
If everyone is ok with have it at Awesome rc then thats where it will be held.I can bring a little more track and fill the room up. Sound good?

Philip,

Thanks for the pictures of the nose plate, I got mine instaled yesterday and it is great. With 2 shims it is the same height as stock and it is alot stronger that I though it would be. Another great product.

That sucks Ray. You have to be careful what types of paint you use together, acrylics and enamels dont interact with each other very well:(

You know, if you order one Thursday and put one day shipping on it you could have it by Friday if you are lucky. Depending on the cost.

i really enjoy the painting, thats the kicker and why i guess this one pissed me off so much. i'd ask davey to do it but it's not his style. i just bought the f'ing stickers too.

i think i'm going to have to sit this one out. i'll order another body and make the 2nd race. we are doing a couple aren't we? i was hoping we would.

i have another dell small form factor pc (same style as hobby works pc) that i have to donate to awsome rc as a permanent track pc if your interested bill? we would just need a donated monitor.

I'm telling you Ray, try Testors Pactra in whatever color you want. 1 coat gives you superb finish and helps enamels stick better onto it. Withstands gloss just fine as well. I'd just toss whatever orange you've tried using twice now.

Examples:

I'd like to do a mini series if everyone else is cool with it, maybe one a month. 3-4 races, we can come up with a simple points system for scoring.

I dont want to answer for Bill, but a dedicated pc would be great, I'm sure he gets a little tired of carrying his lap top around all the time. Last weekend core was dropping laps, the 30 second lap times seemed a little strange to us.:p

how about the weekend of the 14th? just after neko and before hfay.

how willing would asome rc be to making elevated track supports similar to myrtle beach? i think we could make some more interesting track layouts if we could use another row of long staight thats above a lane.

arch2b
2009.10.20, 08:26 PM
matt, did you get a good look at the raised track a couple weekends past? think we could do the same?

VAzRACER
2009.10.20, 09:06 PM
We could but it is'nt as simple as it seems. I looks a little tricky to get it smooth. They used dense foam panels for the ups and downs, and plywood for the straight. I was thinking of using 1/4" masonite, its cheap. I think they used steel supports off the back wall for the straight, that way there was no need for supports infront of the track below and the track dose'nt need to be built around any supports. I could do the supports at work with some left over angle iron.

Honesly, I would like to build this but if we did I think it should be permanent. It would give us alot more room there. We could hold club races at Awesome and HFAY at HW.

arch2b
2009.10.20, 09:13 PM
masonite would be easier to work with maybe and dense enough to support the track.

i'm willing to volunteer time to help :)

VAzRACER
2009.10.20, 09:26 PM
It's going to be something we have to test. I have all the tools to do it, I just need to barrow my Dads truck to get the stuff and take it down there. I'll see if I can make the supports next week if I have some free time, if not I will just go in on a Sunday. It should only take a few hours to build the elevations in the room. I think we should keep it about 12-14 inches up and put the straight at an angle to help decrease the angle changes. Its going to be trial and error. I will see if i can get a few pointers from Landon on how he did his.

VAzRACER
2009.10.20, 09:30 PM
I'll be back at Awesome in a week or so, I will size up the space and see what we need. The side door to the room might be a problem, it may make us do the down slope sooner.

We should also check with the other guys to see if they are ok with this. I know Bill likes to practice for hfay there and this would make it impossible to do those track layouts.

arch2b
2009.10.20, 09:33 PM
maybe not impossible. depends on how much floor space is left after the up and down ramps.

VAzRACER
2009.10.20, 09:40 PM
Exactly, we will have to test to see how much of a slope we can go up and down without jumping.
