* High strength front body mount. Combination of aluminum base with carbon fiber adapter plate give high
strength while maintaining light weight.

* Base mount screws onto chassis. Base mount along with shims set height for adapter plate to fit onto body.

* Body height is adjustable up or down from stock position to fine tune performance using shims. Comes with
5pcs 0.3mm plastic shims included.

* Only the adapter plate is changed when changing body while retaining the same base. Difference adapter
plates are available for wide range of bodies making body changes economical. Adapter plate parts number
is same as Kyosho Auto Scale base part number with CP prefix. ie: CP201 for Ferrari ENZO.

I've often wondered why Kyosho doesn't just use one universal body mount and mold each body to fit rather than having a separate one for each.

Seems like a good idea, but it needs to be economical. I've seen spare plastic Kyosho body mount clips at Kenon for around $3 ea, so this might be a tough sell.

Would it be feasible to change the holes at front to slots to allow fore-aft motion, hence eliminating the need for body-specific adapter plates?

Easy body height adjustment and no chassis hole stripping would be nice plusses though...

But the Kyosho big problem, all the time out of stock, not all body mount in stock, and some body mount never back in stock.

I tried to design something like this a long time ago...

This will not work with ALL bodies, at least not with out altering it some what for some bodies.

It is not just the location of the nose mount hole. There are too many variations in the opening size on the bodies... at least there use to be... maybe all the newer bodies are closer to being a similar size.

There are many bodies that use very similar front clips, with the main difference being the height and width of the clip. Slight modifications can be done to use a different bodies clip. Example, the PN Pan car clip can be used on the Audi TT, and I think the S2000. When I get a chance, I will check which clips are similar, and would work for different bodies.

You could also release a custom clip, that could be fiberglass or even plastic (to make it easier to work on), that the user can shave to fit a specific body. This way you dont have to mass produce clips for the rare bodes... Possibly 2 or 3 different lengths, so that there can be a cutout in the middle to reduce weight, but also have enough structural rigidity for durability. There are a few bodies that you cannot find the front clips for anymore... and the bodies have been out of production for a while...

I have a few of these clips already, and I really like them. The only thing that I would like to recommend, is that the shims be slotted instead of having holes for the screws. So that you can add/remove shims without having to completely disassemble the clip. I really like having the ability to adjust the height of the clip. It makes it much easier to get a body to handle well. There are some bodies that just dont have enough clearance on top of the wheels.

One other thing to think about, is some way of making the clip really lock onto the front, so that in the event of a collision it will not lift up... Maybe drilling a little hole on the body close to the clip, that a spring lock from the front clip can be inserted to the hole and keep it held on.

I really like this body mount, very solid, adjustable and looks far more better than the plastic version, but the first is the most important argument!

EMU
2009.09.28, 12:12 PM
I agree. I had a collision last race, where the car in front of me hit the wall on the straight, and I slammed into the car. There were no problems with the clip at all. I had broken the plastic clip with less of an impact... (430GT)

Just checked them. The 2005/2007 NSX does not work with the new CLK's.
It is about 4-6mm longer. 2003 NSX clip is close but sit too low and maybe
1-2mm too long also.

I used some plastic wheel bushings. The 360gtc I have is ok only because I trimmed off some of the front end to sit the front down more. Before I trimmed it mine also held the wheels off the ground.

The 07 NSX I had to use three lexan spacers that came with it and one set of wheel bushings to get it high enough to get off the ground. All the other bodies I have the carbon clip for work fine.

I didn't like the stack of shims on my McLaren long tail so I ground down a piece of scrap 1mm CF instead of using the shims. You could probably cut down an old "T" bar and do the same thing.

I had to use 5 or 6 shims to get my 07 NSX body at the right hight. The problem I still have though is the clip is too small for the opening (too narrow and too short), so the body has too much play on the chassis :(

Same here, more on the 360gtc body than anything but I havent used the longtail mclaren. I used thin strips of plastic and glued them inside the front nose on the body in the area the clip slides into. This made it possible to raise the body a little and use less shims. Now the body sits on there tight and has enough height to clear the track.
