let me first say your mold and casting of the body is genius! the end product looks awsome.
i would love to learn much more about that process from start to finish.

i really do look forward to following this build :)

i imagine it's easier to work with resin to resin thus the mold?

what are the costs involved with making each mold?

Roca46
2009.12.06, 12:05 PM
Hi arch2b

The cost of the silicone (I buy it in Spain because I'm from there) is 125 euros arpox, the quantity of 5 kg. Then the resin is 25 euros.

But for this type of mold you will use aprox 600-700g and a small quantity of resin...

You can check out this website for silicone and resin casting which is from USA http://www.alumilite.com/
And where I buy http://www.feroca.com/productos.asp (that's in spanish)

Hope it helps.

Oh wow wow wow wow.

Will you be making casts of the finished resin bodykit too? You could sell a number of these to recuperate your costs for starting this cool project. ;)

Hi folks,

Here are more pictures,

Sides of the front bumper done, still I have to sand it and to check the front bumper lines etc.
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s18.jpg

Tried to make a new pannel lines for the sides, because they were sanded when I sand the body.

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s22.jpg

As for the headlights, I will have to do them from scratch because I will leave them a little bit opened like I saw on the real version.
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s23.jpg

I bought the light system from kyosho, the ones with the exhaust pipes, so if I put that body on sale it will have the installation for those lights.

Cheers.

Hi all!
Itís been a long time since my last upload but Iíve been working every day!
I have a lot of things to explain so I will start for the body.
Both sideskirts and rear bumper were made again this time I tried to simulate those sideskirts used for drift, ( plain sideskirts with some angle)

Also this isnít the final colour, Iíve been doing tests of how will look all together and to see if there was any mistake with the putty,. Those pictures are from the past week so now everything is fixed and polished.

I aslo have finished (but not seen in those pictures) for the inside of the body where the mount of the chassis must be placed. On the exterior there is an intercooler.

Here are pictures of the frame of the window that I’ve made, and also the mirrors that it will have.

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s53.jpg

A little test to see how it looks with the tail lights.

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s54.jpg

Also I was able to make those pieces in resin
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/fotosblog/otros/RX7FC3S/fc3s55.jpg

And now here it comes the lights!!! I’ve been thinking and working with those lights for a couple of days and now after a lot of tests with various transparent resins I know how I will make them.

Here are the parts that conforms the headlights..
The two thick parts are the ones that will be transparent with a small hole inside to put here the LED, both pieces will be casted in transparent resin, then the lids over them.

Hi guys,

Finally here it is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mcpeTY_TMw

It's just a test... and I have to say that it has a very very good handling for drifting...

Now I have to use some other techniques to improve the final result.

I will keep the post updated, it doesn't end here.

Excellent project either way!

That colour was only to give it the first coat.. then I have to paint the windshields then clear coats decals and more clear coats.

Good news.

I've finished the body decoration with home made decals, but still don't have pictures until I put on it the lights and the mirrors.
