Hey,

Just getting into racing, I picked up a LM Sauber Mercedes Ready Set.

I was picking some PN Racing parts at Kenon Hobbies but I am not sure if this ball diff will work on the wider LM

I found some threads with lots of information but I am still not 100%

Ball Diff (http://www.rckenon.com/public_html/shop2/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=4858)

Motor Mount (http://www.rckenon.com/public_html/shop2/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3832)

Thanks

both will work but using that diff will not allow you to run the wheels that came with the body. the standard diff is 4mm shorter than the lm diff, so the ready set wheels will be to narrow. you could use after market wheels our get a lm diff. but if you use a lm diff you will have to add 4mm of spacers between diff and pod. hope this helps

The LM specific dif and pod are different from the ones you list. However. The ones listed are the staple for most LM set up's. All you have to do is use different rear wheels(+3 offset) for the rear. The rear track width will then be approximately equal to that of the LM specific pieces. You will run into an interference concern between the spur gear and the Sauber body. The body can either be ground for clearance or use your lighter and heat the body in the effected area and use the back of a small spoon to reshape the area. It will ugly up the money side of the body but it won't make a hole.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Would the body still have to be modified if I were to install the LM specific Diff and pod?

Yes. But not as drastically. It is worth the effort as the Sauber is a very stable and light body.

I went with the LM Diff and Pod from 3Racing

Thanks for the help

Herman - I purchased the ready set and to be honest I never noticed the rear was to high, I will check it when I get home.

Be extra careful when mounting the motor into the pod. Occaisonally you will find that the motor doesn't seat completely into the supports making it extremely difficult to install the retaining screw on the brush end of the motor. To aleviate this take a small round file and grind away the anodizing from the inside surface of the pinion end of the mount. File until the mount fits flush with the face of the motor. Once you have this completed you can test fit the motor to see if the rear mounting screw lines up properly. If not then file away the portion of the mount that covers the mounting hole. A little extra time here will insure that everything operates freely. I have three of these pods and am very pleased with them. However two of them required a little touching up to provide proper operation. The amount of work needed depends quite a bit on which brand of motor is being used.

I went with the 70turn PN motor, I will check the clearance when I get the parts in.

The PN70T can be quite troublesome to install but is well worth the effort.
