Hi
i get from my PN-dealer that the pn pancar body is no more that is there is none to buy!?

I am enterering the PNWC in Stockholm and I only have one body... A spare backup whould be great for my nervs... what happens if I brake my last pn-pancar??

can i use Atomic pancar?? i know the rules state pn body, but if it can not be bought what do I do?

I would reinforce it and protect it! :D I was in the same boat at our recent regional. I found a broken one in my box, repaired it, then reinforced it as well just in case.

There is a hint around the forum here that the new version is close to hitting the market. I dont know how quickly you guys will get them over there, but thats a possibility too, depending on when the regional is.

tudor_47

slim chance as the regionals is now the 25/26 of September... so reinforcing sounds lika a good idea, lucky me it is still brand new.. :)

I broke 3 different PN Pan bodies during the regional... only one was mine  Its better to reinforce them before they are raced, especially so you can try to balance them a bit if you remove the material. The front end is where most of the damage occurs, so just make sure thats a little beefed up, and you should be good.

How thick is the lexan being used for the pan car body???
.030" ?

tudor_47
2010.09.17, 01:35 PM
lexan!! Now it is getting exiting!

I hope it is 1mm thickness as it will not stand up to the abuse of beeing a 1:27 race car if not.....

My avatar is a 1mm lexan body, a Audi by LimmetED.... Long out of stock and sadly missed.

There are a ton of different ways to mount a lexan body to a mini z. The stock way to mount it is with a piece of velcro on the front of the body, a piece of velcro on the provided delrin bumper and 2 threaded rear body mounts. Bill Crotty has 4 body mounts on his car. I hacked up an old PN pan car body and used the front clip portion of the body and double side taped it to the front of this body and used the stock PN front clip. I have 1 body mount in the rear for now.

Any chance to get pics of this mounting system? I know there are tons of ways to mount lexan to mini-Zs, but there hasn't been a good enough way that people have started running lexan. I was hoping PN was coming with something better than ordinary for this. I hate to be skeptical before getting to see it for myself, but it seems fishy that aluminum body posts weren't strong enough but velcro is....

When you take those outdoor pics, could you get a shot of the back. It would also be cool to see some pics of it mounted (and maybe some of how you mounted yours. Sounds simple enough but a pic is worth...).

I know we are asking a lot of you Dave, but I'd like to run one of these at the finals, and I know I'm going to be running against some. It's less than a month away, and this is the first taste we've even had.

Here is the supplied PN body mount system. The black delrin bumper has a piece of Velcro applied to it that attaches to the other end of the Velcro that is placed on the body. The Aluminum standoffs screw into the extra holes (nubs) on top of an 02/03 that are never used located right in front of the DPS nubs. Two 2mm screws secure the body to these aluminum standoffs.

^ Thanks a lot Dave! This brings up a few more questions though :D

Are you running a bumper up front? I see the delrin one looks like it bolts into the body clip slot, and you have that taken up.

Did you cut the rear out, or is this how it comes?

I am NOT running a front bumper. The body is made out of .030 thick lexan which is the same stuff 10th scale bodies are made out of. This is such a small body that its actually extremely solid up front if thats your worry.

You have to cut out the entire body yourself. Wheel wells, rear, sides, everything. Just like a 10th scale or 12th scale body.

Hi Philip, When will this body go on sale?

philip said earlier that he was unhappy with the alum mounts and was opting to redo them out of stainless steel. he also said they would be up online this past monday, but its now wednesday and....... i think if the bodies are ready he should offer to sell them with no mounting system so those of us running in the worlds can have a fair chance, but that is what i feel is the problem.

on a side note the body looks nice. size wise is it the same as the plastic pan body are closer to the atomic vds as it looks an awful lot like that body.

I am just assuming that the additional delay is because of the change in mounting hardware. That is perfectly understandable. Yet it seems that the official PN team members already have the body and have competed with it. Was everyone using the original hardware? Did anyone have a failure with it? If not then why delay in getting the product in the field? Could there be other reasons? Nobody that I know enjoys going into a major development flog this close to a big event. You have stated that the set up was same as plastic. For you that is. It might not be the same for the rest of us.

i love that pn continues to push the scale with product development:cool: but i'm just not a lexan body fan.:o maybe for mod class but i don't participate in mod classes. purely personal preference on my part, not to be construed as disparaging the product.

wcrotty

First i would like to say i tested the body on my mosler GTmod car. (i never ran pan mod because i didn't like the feel) All i had to do was take off the front clip and install the bumper. Then add the body mounts. I didn't change a thing on the car and I love the way the new body handles. I tested the body for two days and i broke 3 of the 4 prototype mounts that i was sent. This was a necessary change and worth the delay. I want to run pan class again now with the new body.

After i broke the mounts i took off the bumper and put my mosler clip back on and the car was great still.

Thanks for the feedback Bill, it is reassuring that PNracing does not want to release the product if there is a durability issue.

I really want to run this class, but dont know if I would even have time to get the body painted and back before the race... as its not even released yet.

At the NJ regional, my pan car was just a Mosler setup with a Pan body on it. I think that in general, those setups are pretty similar, and should be a good starting point.

the reality is the body and how it mounts is totally new. Will it be perfect or what we are used to? Less than 25 days to get one and set it up. If it is that good it will prove itself right away. If racers have issues PN pan car will suffer.... The sad thing is there are no pan car bodies available today.
PN may have to allow Atomic bodies..... Pan car this year became a big class as well.....Will the world champion be using a Lexan body or a polystyrene one......only time will tell.....

EMU
2010.10.05, 11:22 PM
I managed to scavenge another plastic Pan body... But I really cant see how the lexan body wouldnt be better than the plastic one even with the same setup underneath. Finding the optimum setup may take a little time to work out... but I think that in general, this is a good step forward for the scale... Now we have true pan car bodies, which are super light weight and transition at a much faster rate than the older pan bodies.

I would like to see an open body rule for pan, but being a PN series, I dont think that will happen any time soon  Years ago I used slot car bodies... and had good results, but the wheels and wheelbase were quite rediculous... although with slight modification, it could easily be setup for a 94 - 98mm setup.

http://mini-zracer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=30670&stc=1&d=1286334750

In general, I think that the lexan body gives a bigger advantage for stock classes than mod... but any reduction in weight and CG is welcomed in a class that has no weight restrictions.

Here's how I mounted my pan body. I used two body mount posts in the original area and instead of using the supplied bumper, I used a pn reconfigurable body mount with two body mounts posts. I now can adjust front ride height by using shims under the posts.

Nice!

although you should consider using a bumper in the front to protect the body from impacts.
