Hey i was considering purchasing a little tank called the desktop rover. Does anyone have one or heard anything about them? Does anyone have any of the blimps that fly around? Here is a site with the rover and blimps

http://www.plantraco.com/product_dtr.html

Thanks for any input

mini-z, do you own tinyrc.com, or is it just a partner?

TinyRC.com, Mini-ZRacer.com, and YourMicro.com are all part of Tiny RC, Inc.

If the 50$ price INCLUDED the camera, and the software... I would get one ;) but its only the rover alone... :)

The mini R/C forum isn't too active is it?

I heard the batteries in the ONLINE DEMO land rover last about 8 hours, this is with minute pulses of forward left right etc... so prolby 1-2 hrs non stop throttle ;)

lol so i can expect about 3 hours out of them then, and those little bastages are expensive. They are 3volts i think and it takes 2 of them so could i afro engineer a adapter to put different NiHM batts on it? Couldn't I put 5 AAA's?

chevrolet721, you might want to check with someone who actually owns one rather than listening to Drac's wild speculations (no offense Drac!). I never run mine for hours on end, but the batteries last months and months for me. Btw, the cool thing that is included is an IR cannon built into the tank, so you can play laser tag with another tank! It's a total blast. Even more so with the camera mounted, then it's like a VR game, except the V really is R.

no one answered me if i could hook up 4 aa's to it for more fun instead of the lithiums

Probably, I mean you'd need to find a new place to store them, but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work.

one person asked me if the weight would be too much, do you think so mini-z?

mini-z

No, I don't think the weight would be an issue, these things are real haulers!

i got one of those kyosho tanks it pulls itself up the windshield of my dads real '86 civic si that is hard my mini z just spins a burnout or doughnut depends which way i hit it that is a 45 to 50 degree angle it went up strong tank and only on 3aaa's does anyone know why the back of that tank swivels

mini-z

I would say the Desktop Rover can probably out-climb the Kyosho.

4x4
2002.07.25, 12:15 AM
well it will climb the steepest inclines i have available so i am just fine has anyone stuffed some x-speeds in the kyosho tank i think it needs to be faster and stronger than it is i have acsess to sodering pencils to attach the motor leads if the motors wont kill the reciever also the kyosho tank is amphibious the reciever is in the turret at the top so it can run quite deep for its size can the desktop rover do that

I'm not an "afro engineer", but I still do not appreciate what you might think is a clever reference.

Not nice Mack. I would even suggest deleting that post .

chevrolet721,
You should be sorry. A racist comment is something that should not be offensive to just one person anymore.
You're not a smart ass. You're just an ass.

Cool! Yes, the camera is great - if you get two tanks and two cams, then you can play laser tag without actually looking at the tanks, by monitoring the battle on TVs. It's a blast, and it's so fun to try to figure out where you are by looking at the tanks-eye-view of objects that you see every day.

hey 4x4 i havent got a type 90 yet because of all the things ive heard about them, dont know whether to get one or not. how would the tag work mini-z? wouldnt they both send to channel 16 and only one show up or is the changable?

mini-z
2002.07.31, 08:25 PM
chevrolet721, there are two channels available, 16 and 30.

Thanks mini-z now it all makes sense. Hey 4x4 i was talking about the video camera that you can use with the desktop rover sends the signal to 16 on your tv. i was just wondering how you could battle with 2 tanks with the cameras if they both sent to channel 16 but like mini-z explained it they have 16 and 30.

I've been chatting with the admin from the rover site. They just upgraded their rover to a rover with a built in webcam, and a tether for video + power.

It's much cooler, now, and you'll probably have fun trying to push things around and read stuff that he puts on the walls.

Anyways... thought you might want to drop in w/ them and see it. It's hella fun to drive!
