Hello all,

It is time again to start getting ready for the races at RCX. This coming March event, is surely to be one of the best races we have hosted thus far. PN Racing will again be running the races and as most of you know, Philip really nows how to keep things running smooth. Sunday will be a PN World Cup Regional. Saturday will be a RCP West Coast Challenge event.

Well over $1000 in raffle prizes available for drivers who sign up to drive. Enough prizes that most will bring something cool home with them.

We are changing things up a little from previous races at RCX. We will no longer be in the Hall. There is too much noise and nitro burning exhaust in the hall and we decided to move things outdoors, in the fresh air and more quiet atmosphere. We will set up overhead tents for the pit area and try and set up the track in a shaded area near the entrance to the hall and other outdoor activities.

There will be a small drivers fee. The drivers fee will include free entrance
passes for the drivers to the two day RCX show. We may be able to provide entrance passes to family members of the drivers. We are still negotiating the family passes and will notify you with more details shortly.

SPONSORSHIP

If you are an RC company, person or store that makes or sells RC products and would like to help out with the event, there are sponsorship opportunities available. In exchange for donating product for give-a-ways at the track or cash donations to help out with trophies, we will provide you with banner space at the track and facilitate the handing out of promotional fliers or documents you provide us prior to the show. There are approximately 15,000 - 18,000 people who attend the show, so it is a good opportunity to promote your business or products to those who may not have the chance to see them online.

If you would like to participate in sponsorship, contact me at tracksales@sbcglobal.net.

Awesome. Chatted with Philip about this last week. Glad you could make it happen. I think we'll get a lot more traffic between the buildings.

This will be an awesome event, we're caravaning down there with a about a dozen or so people. The more the merrier, we're leaving out of San Jose, CA you can contact me if you would like to meet up at the same time.

We are also staying at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel next to the convention center.

We're having a RCX kick off race at the shop the following Thursday before we leave on Friday.

Who else is going?

LOL! I know, I know. Tough call. I've actually been wanting to go to RCX for a few years though and now that I'm into Mini-Z I have an even bigger reason to go.

Stupid wedding.

Working on the track layout this weekend. I have some ideas that may include small elevation changes, bank turns and possibly a small bridge. Will let you know what I came up with. I want the track to be fun and different than previous events, without affecting the performance of the cars in a negative way.

Any input or ideas are welcome.

Bridge! Not only will a single crossover equalize left-right tire wear, it'll look very cool. :)

Best part for me though is that you picked dates I can actually come out to play! Looking forward to racing with everyone, for sure!

Any more news on this?

2 total class. Really?Do you mean that you would like more classes? That's a fair opinion, but keep in mind that this is a race and an exhibition with other chassis (Losi 1/24). To be honest, one of my pet peeves has been the proliferation of classes in Mini-Z racing. You end up with 6 oddball classes with 5 guys in each and no one races with each other... :) We've seen a trend lately to simplify the class structure to promote better racing. Keep in mind, I LOVE the oddball classes (F1, and "Skinny Mini"). Honestly, I think 2 Mini-Z classes will keep the the fields deep and the racing good in my opinion.

That being said, my travel schedule has FINALLY calmed down, and I will be going to RCX! woohoo! I'll be calling most of the races, so if you get nervous on the drivers' stand, bring earplugs! :D

Yes more would be preferred by my son and I. Originally it was posted Stock and Losi class.

But a mod and pan class would be great.

This would be our first RCX race. So we dont know what it will be like since its during the expo.

im sure there will be more than 2 classes... and i hope that this will be an RCX CHAMPIONSHIP!....2 days... 2 separate races... maybe even 2 championships! if not combined!
looking forward to it!

That sounds very interesting and it would be awesome.

But the question to you Grant is that are you willing to share the championship since you took down Mod GT and Pan Mod without breaking a sweat at Tekin Nat held at ILR? :D

Hahah jk Grant. We can't wait for RCX now!!!

having someone to call the races makes the whole event so much more enjoyable. cristian was calling the capitol challenge for some of the mains and it was great. race stats is one thing but narration takes it to another level.

Woohoo! By some miracle I was asked to help our President with an event in LA on the Thu before RCX so I have the perfect excuse to ditch the wedding in Maui and make it out to RCX!

Sometimes I just love my job. :)

Regarding classes, I plan to run stock and mod GT. I don't really care about the other classes. Pan stock would be fun, and it was the 2nd most popular class at the Tekin race.

This year I can run:
- 2wd stock
- Gt mod

don't have one but it will be cool to see an LM class for those who do...those cars look so enticing in general.

I'll try having an F1 car ready for next year so will be voting for F1 class then:D

I've been to a couple of these races at RCX, they have always been a great time. they are a top notch mini-z event and both Philip and John put together an excellent Race.

For those of you that are close and get to participate, count yourself lucky and get out there to participate. If I was within a 6 hour drive I'd be there for sure.

Im glad you like it ! i cant wait to get it layed out! i was told by john that we will be using the same track that we used @ last years rcx! but due to the layout being so big and the amount of new tiles we will need to use to complete this size of a layout it will be as if it was all new track!

I sent 30 passes to Philips shop. If you are going to Philips tonight you can pick up your pass there.

Just got back from setting up. The track is HUGE and the biggest we've ever set up at an RCX event. Bridge overpass looks great and should add to some exciting racing. Thanks Grant, Mike and Philip for helping out today.

WOW!! What a weekend. A BIG Thanks go out to John (RCP), Phillip, Grant and guys from PN Racing for hosting this race. That track layout had things I've never experienced before. Also thanks again to Joe Chen for annoucing the race. The raffles prizes were great! My son and I had a great time (even having to deal with the lost of bind issue).
On a different note, while coming home on I-5, we encountered a major rain downpour heading up toward the Grape Vine. That down-pour quickly turned into a snow storm near the summit. We were fortunate to have just squeeze pass the road closure. However, some of our friends from FPR an hour and a half behind us weren't so lucky. They got stuck in the road closure and were directed off the highway without access back on in either direction. They have been forced to spend a night in their mini-van under a bridge to avoid being completely covered with snow. Last I heard, they were OK. Hopefully they'll make it home on Monday.

Great event. Our first time at RCX.

My son and I had a great time there!!! Layout was awesome. People were awesome. Everything was just awesome!!!

Thanks again to John (RCP), Philip, Grant, PN Crew and FPR crew. Joe great MC job and some great driving from you.

We left just in time to catch the snow on the grapevine. Was very sketch driving that terrain. But luckily we were one of the ones that made it threw also. Hope the others from FPR also made it back okay.

Thanks again!!!

Ah, that's the "Mike D" I was announcing! What body were you driving? That'll help me put a name to it! :)

Great racing by all! Track was awesome, huge layout with a flyover bridge. The bridge was a smooth as it could be, and for those that have never driven with contours, it was a challenge. The traction however, was excellent by RCX standards and no one was struggling for grip. Big thanks to Grant and his crew for setting up the track.

Philip and John organized another smooth event, and there were tons of giveaways in the raffle! I think everyone left pretty happy, though unsure of how to pack their bounty. The NorCal dudes showed up in force! Sagisi, Peter, and Castro were all running really well, and Brian brought it with his 911 GT1. Thanks to Jessie, Thai, Ray, Jacob, Brandon, JP, Tyler, Yih-Woei, and anyone else I may have left out for bringing great competition and attitudes this weekend. Hope you guys all made it home ok. Also great to see some Kenon guys on a hall pass (Alex, Opi, Drew). Also big thanks to Brian for the donor 80T, so I could get at least a FEW rounds of racing in on that awesome layout!

The binding issues were fewer this year, and I think the issues we had were due to the drift track next to us. Can't wait for next year and the weather to cooperate with us!

Any chance you want to run some races at RCX? They are coming to Chicago August 6 and they have asked us to host the same races we ran last weekend in Pomona. RCX will also be going to Florida and Long Beach California in 2012.

What a great mini-Z racing weekend. we @ SoCal are pretty lucky to have this held here annually so thanks to all organizers, sponsors and participants for making this happen.

Glanced over the results and hadn't realized that top 4 cars from Sunday's stock B-main finished on same lap within 7 seconds of each other!! That was a fun one and how about Joe C. switching from announcing to throwing down serious number of laps without any practice!
Big ups to top 4 stock A-mainers from Sunday with crazy number of laps completed and Sagisi with that blazing 34 laper only toped in mod by Grant's 36, wow on both counts! & Brian's loan Porsche body choice in 2nd place A-main, a headline by itself...

Looking forward to the videos

My son and I's first RCX and what an awesome weekend it was! Thank you PN crew, John from RCP, Joe from Reflex, FPR, and everyone else that made this a memorable experience. The layout, announcing, and scheduling was in par of just how much fun it was being there and racing! The raffle was definitely the icing and cherry on top.

Despite the distractions, this by far was an experience like no other. Being on and off the drivers' box had the same joy as the A-main drivers were inspirational on their executions, especially that bridge. They drove it like it wasn't there.

Special thanks to Grant for the gifts at the end of it all. Made every kid a winner then. Im sure you realize this is a father/son venue but when u handed it him with ur words, he felt like he won his own.

Thanks to everyone who made the event possible! So many people to thank that ill just say a big thanks to everyone so I donít leave anyone out. Every time I have been to RCX the track has been so smooth with no seams between tiles. All the tiles were out of the same batch and Grant even put all the grain of the tiles facing the same direction ;). The track layout was great and flowed well in both directions. This year they put us all the way in the back and the Nitro smell was very light compared to previous years. The layout of the pits was very welcoming to spectators this year. Hopefully the mini z scene will grow even bigger after this event. I know myself and others talked about mini z to tons of people who been into RC for years and never heard of mini-z.

I would like to congratulate all the participants and the podium finishers in there respective mains. The driving skill of mini-z drivers are getting better and better. One of the highlights of my weekend was Jacob L. racing in the C main with a dead set of batteries, does a pit stop for a new set, then gets back on the track and works his way back up to 2nd. Also would like to congratulate Peter Dinh on his first big win! I think he actually brought home the most hardware this weekend. For a guy that doesnít practice that much, he sure was on his A game. Brian Ma also brought his A game and was setting fast laps all weekend. Brian has tons of knowledge about mini z and backed it up this past weekend with his body selection and tuning to get his car dialed.

I myself had a great weekend taking a 1st and 2nd in stock and 1st in GT Mod. The only problem I was having was binding issues. I missed 3 qualifiers total due to my car not being able to bind and one DQ for being 10 GRAMS under weight!!! Haha. I blame all you 4pk and Euros owners for over powering my signal. :P I guess im going to have to switch over to the Euros soon. If anyone is interested in my setups I will post them.

-Lots of aero work! Front diffuser, hood vent ducting, roof scoop block-off plate, rear spoiler mounted on PN disk damper posts as standoffs. Produces more downforce than pretty much anyone else in 2WD Stock.
-The 911 GT1 isn't strictly the best body for long mains IMO, it sets very fast laps only if you never touch the rails. The tail is loose unless you produce a lot of downforce to plant the rear down, unlike the SC430 where the tail is long enough to plant down and you don't need downforce per se (see Ryan's setup). Without fresh rear tires every run, using the 911 is a little risky -- as the results and the video indicate, I got away with it in qualifying but the main was another story. :o

Love the setup info! Thanks.

Can you guys share the details of your PN/Kyosho/Qteq diffs? I'm interested in building the ultimate diff. Also interested in finding one of those CF diff shafts that the FPR guys were running.

color01
2011.03.25, 02:22 AM
I think most of us are running the same thing, which is:

Qteq diff hubs (diff left, diff right, rear left wheel)
Kyosho pressure plates
PN 7075 aluminum diff shaft
Spur gear of your choice, diff balls of your choice

My spur gear is the new PN 126p 106t spur, with a Reflex high-grade center bearing, TOP Racing ceramic balls (cheap! :D) and Kyosho diff lube to hold it all together. I had an ATM ceramic bearing in there as a thrust bearing but it broke on me during one of the qualifiers, so now it's a Reflex bearing until I get another ceramic bearing to fill in that gap.

I still stand by putting ceramic bearings in the diff and rear right wheel though, because every time you take a hit, those bearings are heavily loaded in ways that they really weren't designed to be. So you want strong, quality bearings in those locations if you want the diff to last a long time.

Larry just sent me a PM regarding suspension geometries up front -- I'll put up a writeup later on my front and rear suspension geometries, and why I have so many bloody shims in my front end lol...

SAGISI

The best diff rings in my opinion for ultra smooth diff performance would be the Route 246 hardened diff plates. Its a little expensive but it's well worth the price and your diff will last longer and not have to be maintained as often.

Just reaching out again. I sent the PM but was wondering if there are any updates. I am speaking with Al's Hobby shop in Elmhurs. They may be able to provide a 6 panel (maybe even 9 panel) dnano track as well.

Looks like an awesome event, glad you guys had fun. Wish we could have come. Maybe next year.

Are there any picture galleries of the event?

I remeber seeing a pick with a prize table for RCX. A Kyosho go-kart, jet, and a few other items were on the table. Anyone know where I may have seen this picture?
