What is the difference between a "regional" race and a "national" race?

It's a gigantic regional, haha... basically it's for the US residents here who want to go to a big race but don't want to fly to Germany for the actual Worlds', as far as Philip has explained to me. :)

Looks like Binh has the track set up for nationals. Unfortunately he wouldn't let us race on it yet.

First off I would like to thank all the racers that came from out of town. We at ILR and the Mini-Z community appreciate you guys coming and supporting these type of events.

I would like to thank Philip of PN Racing for giving us the opportunity to host this event and for all the generous raffle prizes. I hope that we did you justice with our race program.

Many people had their hands on this event to make this possible. Chris and I greatly appreciate all the help this weekend, without you guys I would definitely not get a change to eat or attempt to race.

I have been doing this for just over five years now and I have seen the level of competition evolve dramatically over the years. The 2011 PN Nationals was certainly an evolution of driving. I am not sure if we got the video footage of the youth class, but I am sure if anyone gets to see the video, you could not tell that the all these kids are under the age of ten. These kids were laughing and having fun while racing, that is what it’s all about. Good job kids.

In the stock class we had a 30 car field. Just making it to the A-main in this class was certainly going to be tough. After four rounds of qualifying, the dust settled and Ray Cilloni took home TQ honors and was the only driver to make 33 laps. A1 started out very well with a clean hole shot with the top five guys on the lead lap for over half the race. Clint was within striking distance near the end of the race however lost a pinion and had to retire, which let Cilloni take home A1. In A2, Cilloni would lead start to finish and capture the Stock title in convincing fashion. In A3, Clint lead from start to finish to seal up second with the regional champion Luke taking home third.

In the modified class we had a 25 car field. With PN World Champions, multiple Tekin National Champions, and multiple KO GP champions in this field, it would be no easy feat to make it to the big show of only eight cars. TQ went down to the last lap of the last qualifier with Stephen Bui edging out Chad Nelson by two tenths. Stephen, Chad and Romel Tuason were the only drivers able to put down 36 laps. In A1 Bui had a rough start but was able to take home the win by edging out Nelson by 1.4 seconds with Matsushima taking home third. In A2, Bui had a chance to wrap up the title and did not was any time. He lead from the tone to secure the modified title. In A3, it would be a battle between Nelson and Matsushima for second. Nelson now with the pole for A3 used it to get out and run with Matsushima giving chase with the rest of the field. Matsushima would not let Nelson run away with it, taking this race down to the final lap. However in the end Nelson was just slightly faster. The fastest time set in modified was Bui in A2 with 7.98s.

In the pan modified class it went down to a sudden death A3 with anyone of three drivers having a chance at the title. Matsushima was the only pan driver to qualify with 36 laps, giving him the luxury of starting on the pole. In A1 Matsushima lead from start to finish. In A2 Matsushima had a chance to wrap things up, however could not recover from an early crash. Tuason took the lead early and was looking to put distance between him and the rest of the field. One bobble at the end of the race cost him the win however a second still keep him in contention for the overall title. In A3, Matsushima enjoyed an early lead with Nelson and Tuason battling it out for second and third. Nelson got passed Tuason late in the race and was looking to reel in first place and the title. Nelson was able to close the gap in the finals laps and as they crossed the line, Matsushima captures the overall title by the narrowest of margins, just 0.098s. That was a photo finish for the books. The fastest lap time was set by Philip with a 7.886s followed closely by Matsushima’s 7.889s.

Overall it was a great weekend of racing in all the mains. Big thanks to all the parents that helped out this weekend. For some reason the youth class had the most light bulbs going off. Not sure who was more nervous during the youth race, the kids or the parents.

I will have results and pictures up soon.

Thank you again for all who attended our race and everyone that dropped by to check out the competition. Your support is much appreciated. We hope everyone had a good time. And like always, we hope to leave you with just one question, “Hey Binh, when is the next one?”

This was an awesome race. I got to talk with Grant a bit more than usual so that was cool. I also got to see ALL the regulars and more! Also cool that Ryan Crabb showed up, getting to sit next to him :p

I didn't do as well as I planned but it was cool to see Ray and Clint get podium. They drove great and deserved the trophies.

Thanks to Binh for the great race. Also thanks for letting me use your Eurus. I still need to send my 3pk in :( lol

Also thanks to Ezra for adjusting the ICS settings during the quals. I needed VI off and totally screwed my board setting up with the 02 ics programmer. He totally saved me and I can't thank him enough for that :)

Final thank you to Philip. Thanks for the tires and making great products.

again..... AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!:D
as always when i go to ILR bihn and chris put on the greatest show!
thanks to the ILR crew and PN RACING for putting on this event!
the level of drivers @ ILR is off the charts!
as for the racing i feel lucky to be able to race @ the level of the drivers in the A Mains! with the new layout set on friday night it made for a level playing field as not one driver had the home advantage as far as the layout!
however ILR drivers, stephen and romel were fast out of the gate! i struggled to find the perfect set up in practice and settled on just needing to drive my cars even tho they were not perfect!:)
in GTMOD i qualified 4th and got the TQ in PANCAR MOD!
The racing was intense, 4-5 car trains in every main.:D
awesome event ! in the end I was able to secure 3rd place in GTMOD (congrats to ILR driver STEPHEN BUI for taking the win!)and WIN the 2011 PNWC PANCAR MOD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
special thanks goes out to the PN RACING TEAM! and R1 BATTERYS!
next stop, GREMANY!:D
