I am happy to announce that I will be opening a new store in the Myrtle Beach Mall. We will focus on Mini-Z and other small scale cars and racing. We will have multiple track layouts for different types of racing, and will be a full service shop, offering paint, build, and tune services. There will be a place for rental cars and off-road cars (LOSI and MB010), as well as a full time tuning/practice track for the serious Mini-Z racers. I hope to host many events! The first one will be November 5th, and we already have a thread for it in the event section of MZR (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37033).

Here are some pictures of the space we ill be filling :D

These are overview pictures from across the store of the "proposed" area designations :D

Guilty as charged :) 100% no joke, when I just got this reply notification, I was on GSR searching out the thread where I previously mentioned this.

We put a layout down today to see how it would fill the space. It looks freakin awesome!! I can't wait to get some folks in there racing!

Thanks guys! The idea is to have the coolest track around :) Keep in mind too, this is the first layout I've made for this location. As I get used to the space and flexibility, they will only get better :)

BTW, where are you twinkie?

Can I make a sugestion? Is there a way to make the level changes smoother? I'm thinking about the car going up in the two up sections in the left of the track, and wondering if they wont loose the grip, because the uphill sections finishes in a 180 curve. Smoothering the level changes can lead you to have more in and out curve speed.

We had problems like that... can you post a video of a Z doing the track?

Doug, Your track looks awesome! I really like the banked curve at the end of the straight. We used to run on carpet, and some days I really miss it. I am one to change layouts a lot, so I like the flexibility of RCP. I also like running on the most popular surface for most of the races I attend, so we made the switch and have never looked back. One thing I didn't like was the conformity of most of the RCP layouts we see at almost every club, and the fact you can't change the lane width (very easily). Because of the lane width thing, and the limited space in our old track room, I decided to make some elevations to make more space. I wanted to keep the chance to change the layout as often as possible, so I made modular elevation changes. I've run them in a lot of different configurations, and tested them to the fullest! The new ones I made are fully modular, but have a smoother transition, to keep the cars planted through all the corners. Even though some of them look kind of steep, they are curved at the top and bottom and the cars never leave the track surface. I will take some more detailed shots of the actual "transitions" if you are interested.

I also don't want to stray away from the new store, and layouts that are actually in it, so I will just post some links as well :D These are some of the layouts that I made in our old space with similar elevations to what I am using now.

Albert, I may do a double straight layout for the event. The one I have down now is pretty tight. The chicane at the end of the straight means you have to scrub a lot of the mod speed coming into it, and the other fast section ends up in the hairpin at the top of the first 'up' hill. I've gotten air there a couple of times when I let off too late :O I am going to use one of the different inclines, and have a little flat spot to slow down on before that hairpin, but this layout is just not mod friendly enough for an event with two mod classes :D Also, I want it to be fair for every one, so I won't put the event layout down until late that week.

Eric, the sweepers coming down the hill are awesome! It makes me want to make sure I have that on the event layout.
The little section coming down the hill on this layout was uber cool though!
http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv77/MBMZR/Track%20room/2011-08-31_12-34-41_500.jpg
I'm thinking to do something like this, but lead it onto a second level straight...something different from the other "second level straight" layouts we had in the past.

How about instead of you buying carpet, AND a couple of scalpels, you just get a Z or two and come race on the RCP? :D I know a store with a great staff who would love to hook you up with all the latest Z tuning technology ;) We are gonna have buggy racing too, as soon as I get my hands on a couple of MiniZ lazers!

It'll take a lot of interest for me to invest in the 1/12th scale/X-Ray/Scalpel scene. Although the place is great for a nice competition sized Mini-Z track, I think it would be a tad small for anything bigger. It has already crossed my mind that I may need a piece of carpet for under the RCP track, and if that happens maybe, just maybe the space can do double duty :D

I like the 3 level track in the first video. Wonder if you can do a 4 level and still see the top track and under the 2nd level on the bottom track. I guess it depends on the height of the drivers stand. Would love to set something up similar to this at an upcoming trade show. Great job!

man, watching those vids again makes me wanna wheel. who knows,i might get some z 's again. sense all our offroad stuff was stolen.

mike,i use to have 2 of the m-18. they r awesome. i use to race them probably about 7 years ago, they r fun. that was collins first car he raced. a proud time for me:D.

mleemor60
2011.09.30, 10:46 PM
I have enough for a main. with parts to support them. When I got back n it was the first car I bought. As usual I went overboard. They are so neat though that I didn't have the heart to get rid of any of them. They have so much dust on them that when I tried to run one it looked Like Indiana Jones running from the Indians in Raider's of the lost ark.

With the size of that store and the amount of RCP that can be gathered it would be possible to host a world class X-Ray event.

All your gear stolen? That isn't likely happen with a Z crowd.

I'll have to forward you a goody or two to make you feel better.

I had M18s Scalpels Micro RS4s and even BRP cars.....
personally I think in a Mall you want to run what is main stream and hot....
while you can still get the m18 its not like it was 4 or 5 years ago....the platforms are way too old....
The only way it will work is if you have separate groups of racers....
mini z crowd and an 1/18th crowd otherwise you will be racing a losing battle for customers.

If you have enough room I would run the mini traxxas stuff....

Wait till you see the the mini z buggies....very well made but they arent cheap.

Hopefully your mall traffic spends money on kids.....:D (both young and old)

You could do M18 in a 50x25 area no problem, any smaller and you get to know each others bumpers pretty well haha. But I would agree with berm that they arent mainstream anymore, a lot of the goodies we use for the M18 to make them right arent really available any more, if you have them its good, but not easy to find any more, id stick to the Z's (theyre more adjustable and easy to dial in anyway ;))

mleemor60- You can make the scalpel an awesome, dialed, solid car, once you change basically everything but the knuckles and diff

Hope I can make it out there sometime soon, the place looks awesome :D

Im going to stick with only Zs for a while. They are readily available, well supported, and can be raced inside most houses or garages. They are also decently priced for christmas and birthday gifts, which it's a target audience in the mall.

I will be selling other micros that fit that criteria, but will focus on building one race scene at a time. Since I already have a following for miniz, it only makes since to push them first.

I'm going to take a look at spacing for a larger track, but honestly, I think I'm taking all the available space for the RCP track right now.

RCP - It would be hard to see a four tiered track. You can see with the three level one, the lowest level can only be tucked in one tile. Also, at that location we had lighting under the main straight, to brighten up the shadows under it. The lowest straight wasn't lit, and was very dark if you got back on that rear tile. What, three levels isn't extreme enough for you? :) I guess with a different height drivers stand (and maybe moving it away) a for level track could be done, but you'd definitely need lighting between the levels. The three level one is enough for me, and works modular, so I'm not locked in to always having the extra straight.

By the looks of popular demand it looks like I should do the double straight on my next event layout :)

The MR-02 should be really competitive in the stock class. I'm debating on going big and stable or small and light. If I go with the 03, Ill have the option to run a 90mm RM with a narrow front end :D The old 86mm cars were a blast to run, and Id love to be able to make one of them competitive! The one I really like runs on classic wheels, which would limit me to LM tires :D That may not be too bad though ;)

Albert, The goal is to have have every one on the road early enough to get them home Saturday night. Maybe not in time for dinner, but before bed time :D I am thinking that with an 11am start, we will be done between 5 and 6. If we get a crowd big enough that I think this isn't possible, we will just start at 10. That' why it is important for me to get a good head count ahead of time. Maybe you can ask around HS for me on Thursday, and get a rough count. It would help out with scheduling very much. you and Mike have let me know y'all are coming, but that's it from your crowd. I know more will make it, but it would be cool to have a rough estimate about how many.

Dad, Thanks for the kind words. Serrano and Antonio have been working really hard up there for me! We got a LOT more done today as well. Serrano got the main pits powered up, and we got the bottom doors of the cabinets cut and installed. The power boxes are slick. You can't even see them since we painted them stealth black.

looks good man. wish i could make it but you know. i have been talking to KB and he might get sucked in to get a car:). i think he is down for box stock i would be also. i wanna run the o'll LM mazda again.

when you say box stock your talking gear diffs,48 pitch, stock front springs? only up grade is bearings? let me stir this up:), will 98mm have to run with 102mm? me personally,i wanna get another LM. what motor will everybody have to run? cya on the flip side:D.

hrdrvr
2011.10.05, 08:31 PM
Any autoscale body with the wheels that come with it. Only upgrades allowed are tires and bearings. Yes, 86-102 will all run together. You have to run the stock pod that is meant for the body you run. You have to run the gear diff, stock springs, and the stock t-plate. Oh and only the stock motor that comes with the standard kit is legal.

Check this post, and then the rules on the first page of the event thread Eric. That should clarify all of your questions about the "Kyosho Stock" class.

Oh, and also, I know what you are thinking with the different wheel bases running together, but keep in mind, the LM cars are the only ones that come with a disk damper. All the rest are limited to a stock top shock only! The 94mm (and smaller) cars will have to run an RM pod.

Thanks for stirring up the interest a bit Albert, and for getting me some info. I've received a few more calls since then, and have a clearer idea of how many will be attending. I will get on posting a schedule up for every one, as well as pricing (something I almost completely forgot about) in the event thread.

Also, I have decided that even if I have to make folks remove their top covers to see their possible FET mods, I want the stock class to be just that, STOCK. There will be a revision to the club rules, as well as the event rules and FET modifications will not be allowed. That way, it will truly be a class where you can purchase a car, install bearings and tires, and run it. And FWIW, Kyosho 20s and 30s have almost always been the preferred tire combo, so there shouldn't even be much investment in tire research.

Pedro, It'll be great to see you again. Make sure you bring that crazy jig of yours for checking out the GT1 cars :D Sorry about the wedding. Ill see what we can do about getting some cake for ya. ;)

What MR03 kits will you have in stock? I knew that I shouldnt have rebuilt my box stock into a full racer... I still dont have fets, so it could be a candidate, but its much more fun to buy new.

For the Box Stock class, can we use aftermarket wheels with an old ASC body? Or does it have to be a new body with Kyosho wheels? I dont think that I have any kyosho wheels... I personally would vote to have an open wheel and tire rule, so long as the offsets are not wider than what the body comes with. I would like to have the option to use less offset if I wanted... and option to use a narrow front end with wider offset if I wanted. The MR03 comes with both front ends...

chad508
2011.10.10, 08:07 PM
so does this mean you are going to make it down?

arch2b
2011.10.10, 08:28 PM
The Kyosho stock class addresses the wheel issue nicely. Still need Kyosho wheels but choice is up to driver with conditions. I think it's more than fair and the chassis track width on an 03 is up to a driver.

EMU
2011.10.10, 08:39 PM
I would just hate to have to buy Kyosho wheels when I have LOTS of aftermarket wheels already... although, if they have good stock in Kyosho wheels down there, I should be fine.

Chad... looking into it, odds are in my favor. I just got Sunday 11/6 off from work, and have Friday off already... just need to talk the driver into doing the long haul and book the hotels... As with every Carolina race that I have entered, I have raced all classes, so I must race all classes at this race as well...

I really wanted to go to the PNWC finals, but it looks like it would cost at least $2000-2500, which I dont have. The flights for the Nationals dont agree with my schedule, and I cannot take off 2 extra days to do the long layovers that they have on both ends of the trip... So it looks like this race is my fall travelling race :) I missed you guys at the PN regional, so its even more reason to go down there...

i know i speak for everyone in saying we would love to have you make it.

as far as wheels, its up to landon. im fine with what ever as i plan to run an lm with lm wheels and tires. the down side to allowing no stock wheels is you are getting away from "box stock". But then again bearings are allowed so i can see the point in all directions. i know landon is more making this class to show new guys what can be done with out of the box cars the day you buy them with out having to fork over a lot in option parts. i like the idea maj is doing with the vits class. you can only use what comes in the box, im assuming tires being the only thing that can be changed. the only other negative is people running an 03 have the ability to run wide and narrow on the same box stock chassis. i am running a 02 and dont have that option. but i feel the 02 with no slope in front end will do me better.

Not in the stock class, the options are the stock ex or whatever its called. Plain stock allows for any matching style Kyosho wheels and bearings. These are the rules we've adopted for our stock class.

Keeping this short from my phone.
What body would you want to run EMU?
With the exception of some of the R246 bodies, I don't know of any from the last 5 years or so that didn't come with wheels.
If you purchase an asc, or a kit with a body, it'll come with the wheels you'd need to run.
Allowing the option to run different wheels would offer up a significant advantage to some one like me who has collected them for 5 years, and allowing after market wheels would mean some could feel the need to invest outside the initial purchase to be competitive.
I think the closer we keep it to "box stock", the more appealing it'll be to new comers, and the closer the racing will be.

In the spirit of box stock you even have to run plastic wheel nuts....
I just bought a new mr03 for the box stock class....It runs awesome
the only thing I had happen to me was I was rear ended and my motor pod came loose and I lost the mesh....:D

The easiest thing to remember is if it didnt come in the box....you cant use it....
what Kyosho did is they made the Cup Class which allows any Kyosho hop up on the car (Rt 261 included) except for motor.....I basically used all my MR 02 cup car parts on my MR 03 and added the motor pod and disc dampner...

OK, so can I run my custom painted Sauber with stock wheels?

I understand and agree there's no need to see a bunch of White bodies.

i believe we have to run asc bodies only. no custom painted white bodies. i think you can add paint and stickers to an asc though to change it up a little.

Landon, I just read the EVENT thread... and saw that the wheels must be original from kit. Most of my ASC bodies do not have the wheels anymore. Most are cracked or lost... If we dont have the original wheels, can we replace them with a Kyosho wheel set? If so, what sets are legal? Most older wheel sets are no longer available. I am just trying to figure out what would be allowed in the event of a wheel failure at the event if no direct replacement can be found.

As far as body, I am not sure yet. I was VERY pleased with my box stock Porsche GT3R... Although, it is now tricked out in 90mm MM with a TDS... I dont really want to run the common bodies... but dont know what I can find, especially with wheels. Also, what can be done if we cannot locate the front body clip or if the clip is broken and not available?

Eugene you have great valid points for a seasoned racer. I believe in the spirit of this class it is designed for a total newbe to just buy a box stock car and be competitive. Unfortunately it looks like it is going to cost you money to run this class. The cheapest way out is to buy a new autoscale body. You get the wheels and the noseclip.... You need to find all those parts you tossed aside as well....motormount, t plate, friction spring, etc....
I saved all my parts and I gave them out at the Kyosho race....:D

Yes, plastic wheel nuts! :D I like your wording that I highlighted in bold. Only difference is, I'd like the class to have some longevity, and the plastic bushing don't last very long. I'd like to say we run the stock tires, but there aren't that many bodies available in kit form, and the tires that come with ASCs are crap.

While I'd like to be able to offer up a Kyosho/R246 upgrade only class, I don't see it happening in the near future. Kyosho has the prerogative to sell their own stuff. I am going to be a full line store, and in my other classes, I need to be able to promote Reflex, PN, ATM, Mantis, and every other brand. When I get to the point where I have 20-30 guys regularly racing, and we can afford to run 5-6 different classes, there will likely be a Kyosho Cup class. Until then, I'll stick with the Carolina Cup rules, as they are equal to all manufacturers in almost every class.

Wade, While your bodies are on par with Kyosho ASCs, most of the white bodies that you see done are not (admittedly, my white bodies are far from the quality of what I'd like to see on track in this class). I would rather see 6 slightly modified versions of the silver Sauber, then to see 6 basically white cars without any of the parts (fuel caps, exhaust pipes, etc) added on, and no trim painted. I would like to say that I can offer up some sort of judgement process to say which hand painted bodies can and can't be run, but it is much simpler to say ASC only. It'll be easier for me to not hurt peoples feelings too. :D

PM sent.

The r246 bodies are sold in kits with wheels so they count as autoscales in the kyosho rules. It's one of those odd cases.

Wasn't there a line of R246 skylines (R32s if memory serves me correctly) that came as body only? I may be mistaken, but that's what I was thinking of when I made the post I believe you are referring to.

I will allow the R246 bodies that come as complete kits. The R390 for example, I know comes with a set of wheels.

Landon, I just read the EVENT thread... and saw that the wheels must be original from kit. Most of my ASC bodies do not have the wheels anymore. Most are cracked or lost... You bring up a lot of good points, and some that I have not thought of. With this being geared at beginners, and hopefully ASC sales, I really wasn't taking into consideration people who have lost wheels and body clips. To be honest, I am going to be buying myself either a new ARR kit, or a chassis set and ASC to run the class.

Right now, I know I will have a couple of chassis kits, as well as a couple of kits with ASCs (LM and MM, MR-02/03), but it really depends on how much Kyosho has available, and how much I can sell between now and the event. The idea is to be fully stocked, but I am just starting out, and don't have endless capital to get going :D It looks like the Porsche and the F430 challenge cars are readily available, so there is a high likely-hood of there being a few of those.

As far as breakages go, I have thought about that. Until I got my mantis wheels, I never ran anything but Kyosho wheels. I still prefer them to every aftermarket wheel except the new ATM S6 line, and the mantis offerings, which are pricey. At mod speeds I can see front clip and wheel breakages being some what of an issue. With box stock motors and gearing, the breakage should be quite a bit less. I will try my best to have replacement wheels and clips for the ASCs that I carry, but in all honesty, getting them could be tricky. I still don't think it'll be a problem, but I will take it case by case as it does. I've got a lot of clips and wheels in my box, and they will available to any one who needs them to keep running the class by the rules, but if no other option is available, I will have to think about it on the spot. I want this class to be fun and competitive, while be easy to get in to for beginners and veterans alike.

To go back and answer your questions more directly, I want to stick with stock stuff. If you have a wheel missing, or a breakage, do what you can to find the exact match. If I have to allow something that doesn't come with the ASC kit, it'll at least have to be from the same model of car (like you could run the with wheels that come with an '05 Calsonic Z, on a, '05 Xanavi Z), and same year, so offsets and design remain constant, but color could vary. I don't even want to loosen to this, unless it means some one who had a breakage on track, couldn't continue to compete.

It does lessen your selection of bodies, but the available bodies that can be found and purchased right now, are all that any one getting into the hobby has offered to them. You have those, plus whatever you can scrounge up from your boxes and friends in the next 3 weeks :D

Ill be sure and make hat recommendation to any one not wanting to invest in bearings :D I wish you were going to make it down Ed. If not the opening event, maybe time/money will permit at a later date. This is just kind of a special one, and you rank up there with the top "cool friends I've made while Mini-Z traveling", and it'll be a shame for you not to be here for this.

BTW, Eugene, I meant to say, I'm very excited that it's looking like it'll be in the cards for you! I met you along with Ed at the mushroom bowl, at what was my first major event that I traveled to, and Ill never forget your little 350Z rocking around the track! You also gave me some insight to disk damper tuning that I used every where I went until I upgraded to Tri-Shocks. It's been a pleasure to get to race with you so much the last few years, and it will truly be an honor if you make it down to run with us on this momentous occasion :D

I am bursting at the seems with excitement over opening this store, and kicking it off with a great event! I can't wait til November!!!

Just for clarification sake, the rules for the Kyosho stock class are somewhat based off of their summer shoot out rules. I want to have a class where some one can buy a kit, and race competetively. Below is a quote from the R241 thread, that I have modified to more reflect exactly what I want to see in the class. I tried my best to change these rulings to a format that more follows suit with the Carolina Cup rules, as most of the attendees at this race are familiar with those rules, and that format.

KYOSHO STOCK (Featured Class)
Open to Kyosho MR-015, MR-02, & MR-03 Mini-Z Chassis with original kit motor. Chassis can be any configuration including LM. Motor mount, Body, and wheels must match those that came on original kit. (i.e. No mix and match wheels and offsets, No LM pods in 98mm.)

• No chassis or body modification allowed (exception hole may be drilled in rear deck lid of Ferrari F355 to allow for damper)

The only Kyosho option parts allowed are the following:
• Any Rubber tire
• Ball Bearings

Now to further clarify, you can adjust the suspension, and tinkering with the stock parts is allowed. You can move/remove shims, You can sand your LM disks and damper plates. You can add damping oils and greases wherever you see fit, the diff included. You can sand/wax/polish your king pins, but you must use the ones from the kit you are running. You must run it the way it was meant to be run (ie. You cannot run three stock top shocks in a tri-shock configuration).

Stock (and equivilent) replacements are allowed if you are to break something. The clear and colored chassis parts are allowed.

You may NOT change springs, or T/H-plates. You may NOT run anything other than the gearing that comes within the kit. You may NOT run anything other then the Kyosho Stock motor. You may NOT run hop-up parts from the "Cup" or other special edition kits.

saw the rules above and have a couple of questions/clarifications...

-from the above i guess that chassis lightening is out of the question... :D

-for the purpose of easy identification (if two drivers are using the same model of car) will stickers, decals (i.e. waterslide decals) be allowed?
or in general, will stickers, decals be allowed?

-it states that you can move/remove shims... can you add shims (kyosho or non kyosho shims)? to achieve the effect of lowering the
body?

-it states that you may not change springs, but you can adjust suspension... would you be allowed to do the following:
stretch / compress the stock spring
or be allowed to cut the stock springs
or mix stock springs mr01 mr02 mr03?

-don't know if stock is fast enough, but will you be allowing drivers to have tire tape?

thanks again... and more power... :D

I cannot speak for Landon but i will speak about what i have seen so far running in this class out in California. The idea is to have a car that a newbe would drive.....Doing the absolute minimum to make it race worthy.....

(i like your arrive and drive kinda philosophy)... and hopefully this will bring in more participants into the hobby...

as you know there will always be guys who are in the "once a racer, always a racer and/or once a tinkerer always a tinderer" category... and well they will look for anything that would squeeze out or enhance performance in their car...

they may or may not be intentionally against or in violation of the rules... or bending them a bit into a gray area... but, if the rules are pretty clear and laid down so that everybody understands them... it'll be really fun for everybody without questioning if one racer had an unfair advantage over another... and that's what i want to see more of... just plain ole fun racing... without busting the bank by investing into lots of option parts... (yeah call me a cheapskate... but i prefer frugal... ) :D

good luck to all and i'm looking forward to pics and vids of this class... :D

Thanks Herman. It is a big endeavor for my family and I. We appreciate all the good hopes :D The idea is to use the track as the main draw in the store. I have been trying to push the limits of track design since I started racing RC (started with X-Mods) 6 years ago. I will not stop pushing for new innovations, and things to make the track cooler, and more realistic at the same time. These types of things really enhance the driver experience, and I hope to use that to an advantage now that this will be a business for me.

I should have videos after our first race November 5th. You can also see a more detailed set of rules in the event section in our thread for the event.

You will not be able to lighten the chassis or body. You can SLIGHTLY modify the body for track and suspension clearance, but you MAY NOT REMOVE ANY PARTS. Splitters and canards can be slightly rounded, and the insides of wheel wells can be slimmed down.

I will allow and promote details to be added to the car. This will still allow folks to make the ASC body their own, as well as making it easier for all participants and spectators to distinguish between two cars. It should also allow some of the darker cars to be used. One of our guys used to run the black kenwood Porsche 962, which I think is one of the best looking bodies out there, but also one of the hardest ones to see (as a driver, and has some one driving against it). He highlighted the body with some flouro green vinyl, and it retained its beauty, while being easier to see for every one.

ONLY SHIMS FROM THE KIT CAN BE USED. You can configure these to add pre-load, or lower the car. Its your choice. This covers suspension modding as well, as these are the only things you can do to adjust the suspension.

Berm has the right idea, but Ill further explain my thought priocess. A lot of new people in the hobby don't have the skill or know how to properly build and tune most of the complex systems we have in MiniZ today. This will allow them to get into the hobby without the intimidation of having to learn how to drive, tire tune, build/set/adjust a tri-shock, distinguish greases and oils and apply them, build/tune a ball diff, figure out camber castor and front end damping and apply this knowledge, and all the other things it takes to compete in the standard stock classes. Not to mention them having to spend all the money to get these things. IT is rather intimidating, and I am trying to eliminate that.

Berm touched on another subject that I took into consideration too. We used to have a large group of 1/8th scale racers that participated with us. As our group progressed and go better, the MiniZ racers started excelling much faster than the 1/8 scale racers who had much more race/tuning experience. They just didn't have the time to dedicate to MiniZ, and as they got moved down into the B-Main, they started complaining about not being able to keep up with the dedicated Z racers because we were spending a lot more money and time on MiniZ parts, where their investments were their 1/8 buggies. I will have a better chance at attracting some of them back, and they will have a better chance at competing in a class like this. If they take the time to clean their car every now and then, and take the time to come drive it, they should have a legitimate shot at winning races in this class.

The last thing, which is a big influence, is the fact that in my experience, the most limited classes have been the ones that bring the closest racing. Our group used to run an LM class where you had to run an LM body, and pretty much everything else was box stock. Just bearings and tires. Since you had to use LM wheels, even the tire selection was very slim. In the class there were 8 guys who could win in any given race. As the class progressed Motor mounts, then diffs, then DDS systems, the people with the ability to win was narrowed to the 3-4 guys who invested money and time into tuning for full advantage. This has been brought to my attentions lately, as the guys from High Speed Hobbies (pretty much an extension of our club, as we regularly heavily support each others events) have been running an LM class. The body and tire selection is limited, and at the races where the motor was controlled, we have seen some of the closest racing ever. In Formula 1 where the upgrades and body selection is limited we recently had a controlled motor race at HSH. I qualified 3rd in the B (9th overall) and was less than a lap off of 2nd qualifier. I ended up winning an awesome four way battle for the bump up (barely over Reflex Matt Ward) in the closing moments of the race. I went from last on the grid to first in ma matter of moments in the A, and ran in second for a long time. I got passed for making one mistake on the next to last lap by EMU, and finished 3rd, only a second behind EMU, with two other people only seconds behind me. There were 9 of us that qualified within a lap and a half of each other on an 8 second lap. I throw that up to the limited upgrades and controlled motor ("Cup" motor from the Carolina Cup). This is an extreme version of that, which I am sure will bring some intense close racing!

The extents and outer limits of this class will be a car that is clean and lubed, has the right tires for proper balance, and is driven precisely by the driver. Body and chassis configuration will come into play. The LM cars are typically heavier and have less tires to chose from, but are the only ones with a disc damper. It'll be interesting to see what types of cars fare well, but I am betting the LM cars will be the most popular. At my first event, I will have this stock class, along with two mod classes, and a beginner class. The layout will be aimed towards beginners and the mod cars, so it will be flowy and quick which will lend itself to the larger more stable cars. Once we start doing some club racing with these rules on tighter more technical layouts, I would imagine the smaller RM cars that can slam the power down more easily and get up to speed quicker (from the weight advantage) will do well.

Hopefully we have people who are racing for the spirit of racing in this class. They have other classes where they can tinker and tune til their hearts are content!

Still one of my best race memories, the LM class at one of your regionals past... A pack of 4-5 cars changing lead between all of them at almost every turn for about 3 or 4 laps. :D

One detail... are you going to allow removal of the spur gear guard?

Yes, I am splitting hairs here... but it usually came up when we tried this years ago for a small club race.

That was an awesome race day, The Spring Fling at 843. One with much emotion for me. It still stands as one of my most successful events ever. I think we ran like 7 classes and had around 40 people there. All packed into one day!

I remember the LM class you are talking about fondly. We had a C main in the pro and sportsman versions of that class. I remember I TQ'ed by like 4 seconds which was huge, because 2nd through 2nd in the B were only separated by like 10 seconds (or something ridiculous). I walked up on the drivers stand talking smack to Hank and Matt, and then my car flamed out pulling onto the grid :( I finished 5th out of 8 running the car that finished second in the sportsman A, which just came off the track minutes before...and with 0 practice laps!

Yeah, you are splitting hairs. :D I haven't even thought of that, but since I am not allowing the removal of any body parts, I will want these installed as well.

I was not going to attend the november 5th race because of the all the rule jargin. :( (just let you know i am an old 1/8 scale on road racer) But then I was thinking (and some encoragement from my fellow racers @ HSH) They reminded me the reason I do this is for the ENJOYMENT of racing and the FELLOWSHIP of all RCers. Thanks in advance for setting up a place we all can enjoy the hobby. Look forward to coming to your new shop.:D

All the rule jargin is pretty normal for us whenever a new class is born :D It's worth it though, as in the end, we usually come up with something that makes almost very one happy, and every one always has fun. All this talk is pretty crazy over this one. It's pretty simple to use what comes in the box+bearings+your choice of tires. Simple as that.

I do this for the enjoyment as well, and hopefully I can make a career of it :D I look forward to meeting you, and hope we can all have a good time together. You get to race at High Speed with some of the best friends I have, and I'm sure it'll be a blast when we all get together again!

On a Store update note, I got my peg hooks in the mail today! Perfect timing, as yesterday we finished up the product displays! Should have the first delivery of product by the end of the week. Waiting on some paperwork from the government so I can get some orders in from some other vendors.

Here is a pic of the product display area.

I don't think I'll be by there today, but if we do go, I will call you Eric. I've got to go to the other side of Conway to pick up my sign, so I can hang it up Monday.

We are just waiting on our installer to put in the telephone and internet, then we can start up the registers and open up for business! I am looking at the middle of next week, but surely going to be open for practice and racing next weekend! I am expecting the rental cars by the end of next week too, but that may be a bit on the "overly positive" side. :D

If you look at this map (it's hard to read) we are in number 70.
http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv77/MBMZR/LETs%20Go%20Racing/mallMap.gif

It's in the green section, in the middle of the middle section. If you come in by the theater (Carmike 12), you turn right, and we are on the right. If you come in the entrance just south (left on the mall map), you come in and turn left, and we are on the left. As early as most of us are going to be showing up, the prime parking spots will be available. The entrance next to the theater is closer for those parking in handicap spots, otherwise, they are equal. The bottom of this map faces the main highway (17), so you need to come around the back of the mall to get to those doors. I usually come in around the Bass Pro end, as it will be bring you right to the doors I recommend coming into.

wonder if those are box stock? yeah the optima is to old skool. the other one looks like a real race buggy. dude,i will help you build a cool track with jumps. i know you can make something cool. it would be cool to run on the rcp and then go off of that into a section on the hard floor where ya drift a little:).

i would buy some carpet if ya wanna put it down. let me know.

I wonder if they are box stock too. the fastest motor Kyosho makes in the X Speed, so I bet they don't have anything faster than that. Maybe they were running Life Cells though. I dunno, they didn't look too fast. They flew though!!!

Ive got ideas brewing. I want to have one in my hand before I get to crazy with ideas. I want to see how they handle the tile, and how they handle the RCP. I doubt Ill be putting any carpet in the store in the near future :D

yeah ,i absolutely have to have one:D. the jump they have is cool but the landing is to short. ya need something with a longer landing ramp. the take off is cool,it throws ya up hi. when i said carpet i ment for the little offroad cars. i gave up on the 1/12 scale:D. i bet those things have so much traction on rcp.

i think it is 4wd? we can bring a few wheel barrels of dirt in the shop:)

Eric, they use a similar drivetrain to the Mini-z AWD... although the batteries are flat, bottom loaded, and the motor is above the driveshaft. Similar to the Gen 1 Xmod. It looks like it will use the Mini-Z diffs, which I think is good news, since there are already a bunch of ball diffs on the market.

Eric, It was good to have you out again. The slow cars will help you fall back into the neck and neck racing quickly. It was pretty awesome the three of us running so evenly matched. I think I was definitely the slow one in the bunch, but I removed the yellow cap off of my motor, and went .4 seconds quicker on the same pack we had just run a 10 minute timed run on. I think Ill have something for you next time :D

Guinness, You race with the MC3 group right? I've always wanted to make it up there to run with you guys. Bring your F1 if you ever come down! All miniZers are welcome here, but I have a special welcome for F1 fans :D

Sorry Landon, but looks like Kyler and I won't be making this one :(. Work has kept me from doing anything Mini-Z related lately, but I had hoped I could pull a rabbit out of the hat at the last minute :p. I'm sure that this will be one of the best events of the year (well ran, very professional, and lots of fun as usual). Fortunately, there's a great group of guys coming down to represent HSH while trading some paint with the MBMZR crew . Best of luck with the event and hopefully I'll make the next one :).

It looks like HS will be represented well, but it'll be different without MWG in the house :( This will be the firs in a long time where neither of you made it. I totally understand the real world getting in the way of MiniZ racing. I missed a lot of races I wanted to attend over the last few years because of family and work stuff. They are both far more important in the grand scheme of things, and I will never hate on any one for taking care of business :D

Either way, there will definitely be more, and hopefully soon, Ill be in a position to get up to NC and race with you there too. See you next time!

We are shooting to start between 1 and 2. That way people can be home for dinner, or have time to go out. It wont take long to get Griff's car hooked up. The hardest part is just taking the top deck off of the chassis. Its about 7 screws :D We can hook a transponder up with some velcro on top of it, and hang it from the inside of his body. The LOSI's are slow on the RCP compared to the Zs though. They are tough on the walls too!

Eugene, I was surprised at how much better I did than the rest of the 90RMs. I know I was running a wide front end (0 offsets though!), but Steve and I were the only non-LMs in the A! His 98mm big mac was looking good. I guess Chad could say he was only one flip away from making the bump up :D The cork screw down hill was a tough place for marshalling. We have been marshalling it from the center spot, which is where I thought people would access it from. I try not to make such tough spots to get too, but sometimes it's hard to resist the cool effect it adds to the layout. That was one of the most unique turns I've been able to put into a layout. It was just murder on the 90s!

Here are some updated pics of everything! We've got a new layout down, and we put some more paint on the walls in the pit area. The place has really come together! Now we just need more racers!

I think I was to blame for Chad not making that bump up. My motor cut out on the middle straight, and as soon as I realized and started to say something, he hit me and both of our cars tumbled off the track. Marshalls got to me quick, since I flew closer to them, but I dont think they saw Chads car. I tried to call it out in the race, for the marshalls to go to his car not mine, but it cost him the win, and bump. I feel really bad about taking that away from him. Even though it was out of my control.

That corkscrew was the best turn on the layout. Im glad you used it.

dont worry about it. honestly i dont even remember hitting you. all i remember is flipping at the bottom of the hill and no one saw me for a whole lap even though everyone was screaming to get my car. it just flipped and landed in a dead spot. it would have been nice to make the a main but thats the chance i took running the narrow 90 rm. it was still a blast to run and i feel helped me in the other classes.

hrdrvr
2011.11.19, 12:57 PM
It was fun Chad! Maybe this layout will be better for the 90s. No corkscrew, but sweepers all the way down the hill :D At least if we are flipping, it'll be right in the middle/front of the track. I guess we will see how it goes with Eric and Collin on the track before you will commit to going back :D

I didn't know y'all got together either. I knew you went off the track in that same corner, but I had seen Chad flip his car in that spot like a hundred times over the course of the two days. I just assumed that's what happened. I think both of the marshalls on that end went for EMU's cars cause it made more noise going off the track. A bunch of traffic was right in that corner, so it was just an unfortunate racing incident.

Justin you can bring the 12th scale, but the track is tighter than it looks ;)

Hopefully Ill get some video of today's mains!

It was fun running with you and Collin both. You guys haven't lost much touch. We will have to get Collin an actual box stock for next time though. His motor was geared slower, but that car is butter smooth, and holds mad corner speed.

It was very crazy how close we were. I had a near perfect run to get the TQ spot, and that's what it took! All three of us had some good runs, and the main was set up to be awesome. I don't know how much y'all raced (I'll have to see the video after our discussion :D), but you and I really never got together the whole day. Chad and I had a good battle. He punted me once, but let me by. He got by clean after that, and I thought he was going to run off. He would make a mistake, but then run away form me quickly. He made a couple close together and let me get real close, where I ended up making a good pass on him. He passed me back with a super smooth move coming down the hill, but pegged it on the first apex of the hair pins and gave it right back. He would run me down, then make a mistake, which happened repeatedly until time ran out. I think I did 53, alone. Chad was next then Collin. Micheal finished a lap behind you, after you bailed. Ill post the results tomorrow, and the videos either tomorrow or monday.

Shane and Jones are having some good battles. Their rivalry is shaping up to be a good one. Jones needs a little more practice, and Shane needs to get his equipment together. If that happens, both of them are going to be A-Main contenders. John has come a long way too. Once him and Jones get a little more car control, and can drive in tight quarters with other cars, their times will improve immensely. They both got tangled way more than necessary, but neither of them even owned a miniZ two weeks ago.

Eric, I'm not sure how to answer your question just yet :D How close was a marshall sitting to your crash? How blatant was the attack? It was down towards the end of the short straight....were you swerving, or holding your line? This can not be decided without some questions being answered. I'm working on video now. chad, just watch your back. do not get nervous when i'm behind you. you know that little train that drives around the mall? you know when he blows that whistle, thats what your gonna hear when i get behind ya:p:D:D. hey, bring your pan and let me wheel that thing:).

LT,did the vids work?

DR, me and you can battle in the back of the pack:D.

Justin, Good job on an A-Main finish :D

E, I'm glad you are gunning for the top! We were all so close in qualifying that I wish we would have had a better three way battle for the lead. Maybe we will get the choo choo runnin' tomorrow!

I didn't get the DVD out of the PC. Some how the DVD drive is messed up. It took the DVD in, but it wont eject it, and it's not reading it. I saw Josh tugging on it the other day. I guess he won that fight. If I can get it out, Ill load it onto my laptop and get it up.

Eric, thanks for the confidence that I would be battling you for anything.:)
But I will be battling someone, but I don't think it will be you, LT or CM.;)
I am looking forward to a little door to door, see you guys tonight.:D

man, can't a brother get props for TQing by what 7 to 8 seconds:p:D. o yeah and the hotlap of the night:D.

it still is cool how close everybody is with stock out the box. O,DID I MENTION I'M RUNNING AN 02 CHASSIE WITH YOU BIG DOGS:D.

mad props to LT for the win. he held tight the whole race. i gave it up on the 40th lap. i got impatient and should have waited to get around traffic but i stuffed it. then the 02 reverse got me. i know i'm the one who chose to run it but budget racing calls for budget cars.

i did learn a lesson,i cannot talk and drive at the same time. soon as i opened my mouth to say something it broke my concentration. i was teasing with DR.

I see where i stand with ya DR:p:D. i thought we were tight:).

had a blast once again. now i can see 29 laps in the future. the layout is good,it keeps everybody tight. i've gotta little taste of the top spot but landon took that away:). and chad was sticking daggers in me trying to get by:D. it's any bodies spot. like arnold said,I'LL BE BACK:D.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL.

2011.11.24, 01:41 PM

landon should just video me and you guys will have a laugh. man i started shaking when you got behind me then landon got close. thats when i got to shakin. i'm just gonna maintain silence on the stand and i'm gonna ignore you:D.

you need to let me wheel that pan car;):D

Is that what you race for Eric, props? :D I TQ'ed last week, had two rounds that were TQ runs, won the main by a lap, and there isn't one mention of any props for me :(

LOL j/k

You did good. Im kind of glad you beat Chad. Maybe he will step his game back up a little. He got to where he was making really clean runs, and beating me week after week. Lately he is pushing too hard and is back to the old 3-5 mistakes a race.

Chad you've got the car to back off a little, and still be faster than me! Heck, you, Eric, Jones, and Shane all have much faster cars than I do. I've just been patient enough to not have to try and make up for mistakes!

Eric, I was shaking chasing you too! My for arms were sore after the race :D I wish you would have been able to reverse your car, so you could have given chase til the end. You were faster than me from that point on. I just wonder if I would have been able to hold you off like you held me off. It's easy running clean when no one is pressuring you :D

By the way, Ive got all videos up on my laptop. Ive just got to get some trimming software figured out. I DLed one last night, but when I trimmed the video, I lost all sound. I'm going to play with it some more tonight. Maybe Ill have some vids up. I did get to watch last Saturdays A-Main. Chad probably isn't going to like the look of it when he sees it :o

Happy Thanksgiving Albert!! Thanks for thinking of us out here! I hope you can make it down soon. I see you've been challenging the big dogs the last few weeks at HS. All your practice is paying off. You really have come a long way this year!

Happy Thangsgiving to every one else too! I hope y'all are enjoying good family time!

It might be a small crowd. Chad it's put of town. Eric and collin have an off-road race, and shane usually has to work on saturdays. Daddy Rabbit was sick today. I hope he feels better so he can make it. If not it might just be you and me.

Either way, you need to come early so we can get your car sorted out.

We need to run wednesday night. I don't know what's going down for Saturday, but with it being the last off-road race of the year, maybe we will see some new faces around LGR :D

John, If I can't help you get your car straight, you need to get Chad to look at it. He and I have totally different perspectives when looking at set up, and he sees a lot of things I over look.

Eric, we had a great run this past week, so Ill definitely leave the layout up until the 10th. After that we may be running a flat HFAY layout, then for January It'll be back to an elevated layout. I like this style of flow, something with one slow spot and mostly open track to keep every one close.

chad508
2011.11.27, 09:55 PM
what a flat track!!!!! im sure your talking about a 3 wide L layout right? i'll be there wednesday for sure. if john needs help we will come up with something im sure. between the 2 of us we will get solved. first thing i would do is put on some pn rear 6 x patterns and pn front 15 or 20 x's i feel the tires is the problem as that is what he changed from last week.

hrdrvr
2011.11.28, 09:50 AM
Yes, I am talking about a 3 wide L flat track for the December BTE. Ill probably only have it down for a couple of weeks....long enough to get some grip on the line, and then let us get a race day with a good tun-out, so every one can be included.

John, I think the tire set up Chad is talking about would be a good place to start. Im pretty sure a 6/20 combo is what we ended up with on Jonesy's car, and it was looking good at the end of the day Saturday.

The Kyosho 40d radial are good, but they need to be paired with a new set of Kyosho 20d rear radials when new. They have a lot of bite at first, but get better and better as they wear in. The PN X-Patterns seem to be better out of the pack.

2011.11.28, 04:30 PM
i already tried that. thats when i lost the most traction. idk if im gonna race much for a while. money is tight and cant do nothing with what i have. i will come and watch at least. i have definetly got the bug.

john,do you remember who tq'ed and had the fastest lap:p:D but i didn't win:D:D. the boys will get ya straight.

i do have one suggestion, not sure what pinion you are using but maybe put a 6 tooth on. maybe just try slowing down a little till ya get a handle on things. if you talk to andy, he has his throttle turned down and can wheel it well. just a thought:).

LT,i agree the layouts flow is awesome. a flat layout, o yeah your gonna make it to easy for me:p:):D. i am pumped to come back on the 10th. collin will have his stock car by then. now i need something for G man. it's just money right:rolleyes:. cya soon

hrdrvr
2011.11.28, 08:16 PM
It is only money. You are gonna drop more than a Z worth in one weekend racing off-road :D

You did have an insane lap for the hot one  Good run for the TQ too. I think I would have been closer to that if I wouldn't have doubled up my cells. That gave me the right plan for the main though, and it paid off on the ten minute run :D I'm sure Chad and you are close to winning some day. Some body has to knock me down. Ive actually been talking trash for like 2 weeks, and it hasn't caught up to me yet :D

kromie101
2011.11.28, 08:52 PM
dude, whats crazy is i ran the same batts in the third round and in the main. what really stinks is your probably not gonna let me use them any more:D.do you think you might get some atomics by the 10th or even some more trp 750's. i guess i need some for me and the boys. i thought it was gonna come down to the end but i stuffed it. you put the pressure on:D. you stayed smooth. that would be cool if all three stay that way a whole race:D

hrdrvr
2011.11.28, 08:59 PM
Ill have some TRP747s by the end of this week, but it may be a little while on the Atomic batteries. I am working on getting the account set up.

you stayed smooth. that would be cool if all three stay that way a whole race:D

If you and Chad stay as smooth as me, I wont have a chance :D I did have some car for you late in that race, but once I got by, you had better pace than me. I guess that's what happens if you are in the position where you have to push, or where you don't have to. No one knows what would have happened if you would have gotten into reverse and pressured me back :D I only had one lap in the 12s the whole ten minutes!

Should I get a Lazer in for you? Ive got one in my cart, but don't want to drop the cash on one without a remote unless some one wants it :D

i had been running the 8t. and the first week i did good with it. wasnt great but good. last saturday i couldnt keep it straight. so before the last 2 races i went back to stock and 6t everything. no different. i dont know where i went wrong. only thing i can think is the from tires i was using was the pn 40 radial. i was used to running stock fronts. so im gonna try that again. cant hurt. good luck this weekend. bring that trophy back with you.
