View Full Version : New Autoscales for 2012

Well, I guess racing only once a month nowadays is paying off because it allows my bodies to last longer! ;)

Would love to get an Audi or even another 599 but there's no way to justify buying a new body. The magic is getting lost in my book... I remember when new AutoScales were on sale for $15-$20 here and there, and it was amazing to see the amount of detail that could be in my hands for such a low price.

Not too sure where this is all going lately, but with rumours of high cost Brushless Zs, and then to see the KIY controllers with those big numbers, and KT18s that breakdown but still cost $60 used... seems like they are trying to price many people out of the game.

(could just be paranoia though  )

time to start this year off right. :)

as seen on kyoshosan (http://kyoshosan.blogspot.com/) and rc p sanda (http://rajitensanda.blog73.fc2.com/), were getting some interesting things;
yellow mr-03 chassis set
porsche 906 autoscale
keihin honda hsv autoscale
alice motors evolution 2011 autoscale (not sure this is new)
ma-015 chassis set with kt-18 (readyset minus the autoscale)

New way to sell autoscales?
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk193/Greg_Zielinski/Newautscalepackaging.jpg

If it's a discounted way to get a prepped body and usable tires (20 rear, 30 front) and we can get them for $35 stateside, I'm psyched.

Then just sell a display chassis and case as a seperate part.

with white bodies pushing $30 although the nissan 390 is $32. i doubt we will ever see a $35 auto scale. i bet they will go up from the $55 price they are now.

makes sense that they get rid of the added plastics of the display case that also add weight. i don't mind the new packaging at all.
any talk of lower prices is wasted space. it's simply not going to happen. further cost issues can be discussed in the economics thread i linked to previously.

Actually no, This is how kyosho sells some autoscale bodies on hobby shows in Japan. Takes less space to sell bodies like this than in traditional boxes ;-p

You can get new autoscales for 35-40 dollars from Japan. This is the way to go if you want to order multiple bodies to save on shipping.

so, what are the thoughts on the new porsche 906? i have to say i've been waiting for the stock style steel wheels for ages, even went as far as designing a set which never went to prototyping. these appear to be classic or maybe lm?

herman

from the pics of the actual car, and of the actual autoscale... i'm thinking that they might just be 90mm with little or no offset rims.... just guessing and i could be wrong though... :D

rims look kinda cool... i might want an extra set for a project... :D

According to the Kyosho website the release would have been in December 2011. Have there any being advertised and actually sold yet ?

Kyosho noted this would be a simultaneous release of autos ale and white body. I look forward to the white body. I keep a chassis just for short wheelbase cars. If they are out in japan, should be here shortly. There is typically a lag of up to a month.

I don't think these front winglets have a chance!

they don't stand a chance against any barrier, not exclusive to RCP. not the first autoscale with front splitters, or whatever the term is for them, that are as likely to stay on as mirrors. lets just hope the front end has enough integrity to remain durable when they are gone. your more likely to loose them in a collision with another car in my opinion.

i'd hope to buy them as well but the current price point ensure i will not, unless they go on sale or i get a BIG discount.

Wow! 98mm? I though from the pic of the bottom of the chassis it would be 94.

I'm also rather impressed by the offset of the wheels. 4.5 and 2mm. That's the most wide offset kyosho has made on the AWD wheels if I'm correct.

arch2b

Hi guys...
Audi R8 isn't wider than Mosler...
but more incredible is this body comes with +4,5 front offset and +2.2 rear offset!!! yes... that's true!!!!

here a picture of mine:

Under the body there's my MR03 with setup i'm currently using with my Mosler... in this picture i'm using offset +3/+3... no problems!!!!
my earlier test said very good stability and better in handling than Mosler... really....
I need to do more test on it... but guys, i really really love it!!!!!

i'm currently using a very soft tplate... anyway nothing is rubbing under the body... there's enough clearance for complete movement!
Rear wing seems to be strong enough... my car overtuned two times when i pushed it to the limit, but rear wing is still there! :)

this night i'll make other tests also comparing it to my Mosler... i'll try also to make a video to share with you!

Guys... only two words: absolutely amazing!!!!

Yesterday night we had last race of our Stock Championship... Before and after race i did several test on this great body.
In first 4 laps i had track lap record!!!!
Mosler is like tank if compared to R8 agility in corner...
Handling is much better and also stability is great. It gives really feelings that car makes what i want, again more than mosler!
I think Kyosho really made a great body and weight is well distributed; the longer front makes easy to go fast into corners, and overall behaviour is great!

I started to make some test with PN70 comparing times with all the others and as i said my car was the fastest on the track, where previous lap record was mine!

Then i putted on PN50 'cause i wanted to push it up a little more and feelings were also better!!!!

As promised, here there's a video for you... i shot the video and my friend was running with PN70...

Nice! good to see the r8 countered with a shorter wheelbase supercar. assuming this is 94mm which i'm guess it is as an mr-03n body. 90mm would make it just as interesting though as it enters most shortwheelbase classes.

Wonder if the Kyosho driver did a test impression replacing the plastic wings on those bodies with Lexan wings -- such a big plastic wing only makes cornering slower, and the 458's is bigger stock.

true... I would probably file down the fender flares a little then so they don't stick out so far... they don't need to be THAT wide... almost ruins a beautiful body... it's like a beautiful girl who would be perfect except for saddlebag hips....

Those are different cars!
The Kyosho ASB is a GT2 version, the #62 looks like a mix between the Challenge and the GT3 versions....
The aerodynamics of the cars are slightly different due to different regulations.

About a year or two ago they jumped from $50 to $55. Then the Audi's jumped to $60 and now all future releases are planned to be at $70.

I'm not interested so much in discussions about MFG licensing, value of the US Dollar, or what not. Not sure we can change any of that. But I'd like to see the community offer feedback to Kyosho for different packaging.

Take the display with chassis and make it it's own part #. Then sell the car much like you get it in an MR-03. In a blister pack with body, clip, and wheels (keep the tires). I'd like to see it retail for $40 but could possible stomach $50. At $70, I just don't see folks buying them. I already saw a stall in autoscale purchases within the club at $60, even with as cool of a body as the Audi.

arch2b
2012.10.19, 11:55 AM
they already package and sell autoscales in much more efficient packaging in jpn so it's already being done, just not utilized globally. check out any of the kyosho blog sites for pictures of autoscales in packaging at hobby shows, hobby shops, etc. $70 will kill the autoscale market  it's already on life support as it is. i only purchase white bodies anymore.

Perhaps Kyosho needs to do what they did with the new Brushless Inferno and offer there own body. I believe it's called the Specter or something along those lines. Would save on some fees but there is little they could do in the way of manufacturing costs.

argh… 70$ a body… what a killer… all I can say is boo… kinda sad news to hear really… i know the present global situation kinda plays a role in it... i just can't seem to get the logic though, if they want to promote mini-z they should price it more affordable... when they increased prices from 30 to 50 for the bodies, i actually wouldn't mind if they were still gloss coated bodies... but they actually were "hand polished" like yeah right… paying more but actually getting less (in my opinion) for a hand polished body…

well… i guess we'll have to see when they actually do come out

TheRinger

Quote from my friend at Kyosho JP:
"Autoscale body will raise all over the world. In Japan, the price is 3800YEN.
But it will be 4800YEN from next month. The reason is labor cost up in China.
In China , the cost raise 13% per year. I know many use can not buy such kind of high price AutoScale collection. We are starting up another factory.
We might release low cost AutoScale collection next year."

Hope they change "might" to "will". Once autoscale went over $30 I slowed down my buying them and started buying white bodies. Once they hit $45 I stopped racing the autoscales now I only race the white bodies.

to be honest, i'm also concerned about what 'low cost' means. we already got the improved and more expensive 'hand polished' slight.

well, looks like this thread may not be so active for the rest of the year and beyond. i'm sure they will continue to show new autoscales but lets be realistic, who's going to buy them? i'll be equally upset if white body costs go up by the same margin as they are all i can afford anymore.

HaCo
2012.10.22, 11:39 AM
I wonder how they set a price for a body.

They can make a full dslot43 car for 30eur, but an autoscale costs 42,9eur (and how much it will be next after next price change)?

On the other hand a scaleauto 1/24 finished body costs around 46eur, but that includes a full interior and etched body parts.

Hope they find a good solution in lower cost factory and I want wheels and a dummy chassis with my car!
