Thanks everyone who attended - had a great time.

As others have noted, that was the cleanest day of running I've seen.

Our next GTG is at Marty's place in Langley. March 30th.

This might really be our last time there as he has moved but his old place hasn't sold so we can still go.
Once he's able to sell his place ..... we're done.

Mark your calendars and lets get everyone out there.

It'll be a combination of his 50cm and our 30cm giving us a good sized layout.

PS. Yes, the track was "recycled" from the GTG 2 weeks ago.
With the snow there was only 3 of us, I liked the layout and wanted others to have a chance to run it. :)

so now that we're getting closer to the weekend its looking like a crapshoot yet again...they're reporting a 1300m freezing level so the precip we get might be snow to the valley.

Fingers crossed gents...getting pretty F-ing sick of weather on the weekends.

Hope things will work out for you, cowboysir. They certainly have for myself! I accidentally bought the wrong plane tickets, so I am already back in Vancouver, one day earlier than planned. I think I can rest up tomorrow and be ready to race on Sunday.

Sweet day. :D

I'd like to suggest we plan a chicane in the long straight if we go to Marty's again. That'll avoid the massive carnage in turn 2.

we should get a quad-copter and dress it up like those characters floating on clouds with a fishing pole as seen in Mario Kart. With those we could flip cars back over remotely w/o getting in ppl's way.

That was sweet.

Thanks to everyone for coming out. That was fun!
Also thanks to all those that helped setup/tear down.

That was a fast layout and the Porsche's have the "bruises" to show for it. :D

ugh! miss yet another overpass!

cowboysir
2014.04.14, 03:37 PM
Not only did you miss an overpass but you missed the expanding radius 270 degree right hand turn that made the lap...my favorite part of the track when I hit it with just right. The tires on my 03-Ferrari 458 showed signs of turn direction bias. :D

TheSteve
2014.04.14, 06:33 PM
We need a camera at the end of the overpass to capture the air as the cars fly over it. I know Tyler's VE was flying pretty good.

gctkaz
2014.04.14, 11:10 PM
Hope you enjoyed my absence as much as you enjoyed the track! Looks like a really good layout, with potential for a traction-roll shortcut coming off the overpass. I think any airtime off that overpass would have led to a hard smack into the barrier.

Can you get Ryan to post reminders (text and such)? If we don't advertise it'll be a light turnout. That might not be a bad thing since it'd improve my chances of the podium but it's more fun with the general salty langauge and banter....:D

BTW, I'm shooting for an earlier arrival so i can help out.

As you know setup's much more time consuming than breakdown.

I've reminded him to please fire off some announcements for Sunday, but he's been super busy. (I gotta get him to show me how he does that stuff).

for all you chumps that didnt show you missed a great layout with some fine battling. Even though Dave's straighaway speed caused first corner collision/driveoffs  it turned out to be great fun.

The next event will be a shortened event (end at 3:30ish)on Mothers Day so plan in advance to have your MD scenarios in the late afternoon.

Thanks again for today Dave.

I kinda thought the layout was going to be fast and yes, there were alota great battles.

I did negotiate (with my sweetie) running on Mothers Day for a shorted duration and have received confirmation for the clubhouse on the 11th.

I have to say today's layout made my decision to drive down very worthwhile...that's my favorite to date with its direction changes done just right making for a solid lap time.

Thanks again for the setup DaveW...oh wait xmodcanuck and I built the layout for you. :D

Discussion about the 22nd of June is going poorly...it's going to take serious effort for me to convince Sarah so you may want to book the room in Newton.

You guys are awesome track builders.

I had to leave to tend to some "strata stuff" but was able to start on things, getting the electronics done (timing, sound, projection) prior to leaving.
First to arrive before I had to leave, Xmodcanuck was tasked with building of the actual track itself. When I got back, Cowboysir had also arrived and helped finish it, cars were running, it was great!

Thanks guys - it couldn't have been done without you!

On another note:

I'm sorry to hear about the 22nd.

For me, and I'm sure for "everyone down here", trips up your way are the highlight of the year. Gets us outa looking at the 4 walls of this clubhouse and running outside, in a much bigger space, on the much larger layout!

The BEST part is the GREAT food afterward.

If it doesn't work for June 22, Pick a date and I'm there. :D

Busted X 2

1) Sorry I didn't get a pic (forgot). I usually do and post it just after.

2) Yes it's a repeat. I bad.

Going into summer this year there's been so much going on I decided to go through the files and find one that stood out and run it again.

I did mention it in conversation during the day but called it Nov13 as that's the file date on my PC.

New layout for next time. With a little luck we can run in the RV lot.

I'm aiming for June 8th.

I'll post it as soon as it's confirmed. (Which should be tomorrow).

We have confirmation for the clubhouse here on June 8th.

As mentioned, if the weather co-operates, I'd like to setup outside.

Like before, we'd still use the clubhouse for pitting etc.

The Whistler meet could be a possibility, though I'm not sure if I ought to stay for the entire day.

My replacement chassis arrived, I just have to find some time to transfer all the parts over.
I got some Buggy parts too - alloy tie rod + under guard, apparently this remedies the issue of the tie rod popping out on impact, so I think I can finally give this thing a bit of track time, after years of ownership. I got the Kyosho foam tires for Buggy too, the amount of grip is just unreal

LAST GTG AT SPENSER GREEN - SUNDAY JUNE 22ND!

I think this must be "last gtg at Marty's" version 3 but regardless.....

Marty's sold his place - pending subject removal - but in the mean time he's graciously offered to host another GTG at Spenser Green.

I think, more than likely, this will actually be our last run here.

Spread the word and let's get everyone out! :)

I'm working on a nice, quick layout utilizing Marty's 50cm combined with our own, recently purchased, 50cm tiles. With less "tile seams" this should offer a smoother overall track for easier and (hopefully) faster laps. (note: if we have a full length straightaway as before, it'll be 3 wide this time.)

Pricing with be the same as before at this venue - $10.
(Sadly, due to the cost of the room, the setup/teardown discounts offered in Newton don't apply).

Bring an extra $5 for those who want pizza.

June 22 - mark your calendars! :D

Excellent day of racing!

I really enjoyed the battles I had with xmodcanuck because of our insistence on running stock-ish and 70turn motors.

Remind me to go through the lists of transponders and modify everyone's names/chassis with either GT1 or GT2. I feel that since we can't get people onto a similar power band we should be able to distinguish different cars on the finish list. Since my 70 turn will never be as fast as the 4 cars running GT1 spec I'd like to see a "5th overall/1st GT2" beside my name.

Any thoughts on this idea?

gctkaz
2014.07.28, 12:11 AM
It doesn't matter to Steve, he'll always be on top no matter what he runs (or the rest of us, for that matter) :)

I have 2WD 50T, 60T, 70T setups and a 70T AWD, got those tweaked back when Ryan wanted to do the spec classes...

Really, really hoping to show my face at one of these, maybe late August. While putting off some work I got my 50T setup into a new chassis so the motor leads don't loosen, and a little bit of body repair to patch up some damage. My cars should all be in good running order now, just need to find some time to run them!

TeeSquared
2014.07.28, 12:39 AM
Good times today! Really enjoyed some of the battles. There was some good close racing out there.

You know, good racing between all the hacking :D

I am all for running the stock and mod cars separately. Why don't we do that already? We can still all practice together but it would be fun to race the stock and mod cars separately.

DaveW
2014.07.28, 01:47 AM
Thanks to all who came out, as always, it was a great day.

Many, many battles for 2nd, 3rd and even 4th spot as so often they were so close!! (we all know who held 1st - we didn't a chance there).

I'm pleased to announce that a member has offered to donate a portable A/C unit so we can "cool things down a bit" as it was a bit toasty in the clubhouse today. I'll pick it up later this week so it'll be available for our next GTG.

I regret to admit that I didn't get a pic of todays layout - if someone did please post it !!!

Next GTG info - to be announced soon. :D

I have no issue with some races being stock only. Hopefully we can include the Kyosho eco brushless in there, unless we find it is just too fast. I haven't yet seen its performance in a 2wd car.

If Ryan can bring his Tamiya Mini4WD tach it might be a good place to start, using some common gearing to compare against a 70T. I'm curious about it as well since the Xspeed VE still seems a bit too hot? If I ever go for a brushless upgrade, I will be looking for something 5000kV or below.

At the very least, we can establish some acceptable endpoint settings on the programmable radios.

It's doesn't really work to "turn down" your endpoints...just ask Tee Squared how that worked out for him in yesterday's attempts. If you don't get it just right the motors characteristics still shine through.

As an example, xmodcanuck and I ran 80t and 70t respectively...Dave couldn't break into the 9-ish no matter what he did and the best I could manage was 9.5-ish when I drove as clean as possible. Meanwhile 4 other cars posted low 9 to 8.5-ish. It's a bit depressing to essentially be lapped once each 10 laps driving with no errors.

I think it's either tag cars with their own category on the transponder or have specific power level races. Since I'm mostly a 70t guy I wouldn't mind sitting out on a mod heat (at least until my 48T chassis gets sorted). We could even stop hacking on Bak Choi for his choice of foam tires...we could make "mod" completely open!

gctkaz

I agree that motor class is the best way to do it - as once everybody is on similar motors, then that still leaves each driver the choice of tuning the gearing to a specific track or driving style.

Endpoint tuning certainly is a suboptimal solution - what I noticed is that tuning down the endpoints of a hot motor makes acceleration exceptionally sluggish, even if the top speed is the same as a slower motor on maxed endpoints.

If members are willing to do it, could it be a lot of extra bookkeeping to ask the club to do a per-member layaway and then do a massive group order of various motors to distribute? The basic 50T and 70T motors are only $10 each, bringing an extra $5 per meet would get you into two classes in 4 months. Personally I'd love to get my hands on an 80T.

The more troublesome thing is switching motors, for people who don't have multiple chassis. I'm thinking spade connectors on the chassis, with non-polar Deans micro between the spade and motor.

TheSteve

There just aren't enough people out to run multiple classes. Possibly two at the most, or the entire group together with stock and mod classes at once.

I'm not that into racing so it doesn't really matter but there is no way I'm downgrading to brushed motors, they wear out far to often and run too hot.

There was a discussion on here somewhere about which brushless was closest to a Kyosho stock/PN 70t and I think it was the ecobrushless, so I think you're good there. We all know you could have a car with a 100t 1000rpm motor and somehow you'd beat us.

This will never work and I'll tell you why. Let's race our real cars. You in your BMW Z3 and me in my....oh let's say my BMW Z4 GT3. They're nearly the same car, aren't they? What? That's not a fair race? Ok, I'll limit my top speed to 100mph and you do the same. Is it a fair race now? Nope, because I can hit top speed in 5-6sec and it'll take you about 3 times that, that's why. A hot motor is a hot motor is a hot motor.

Given all that, even if we all had the exact same cars, and I mean absolutely everything exactly the same, we all know who is most likely to be the winner. But the winner is much less likely to be multiple laps ahead of the rest of the pack.

Of the people who showed up last gtg everyone had at least 2 chassis so choosing to use a class specific chassis.

Since we only had 7 people at peak last event I kind of agree with not having enough people for multiple classes...my hope is to limit lapping conflict. I recall a great event where Grant used his stock motor narrow chassis and he only made one extra lap on the field and the rest of us were on the same lap together.

Good to see we've got some discussion going.

Do we think the transponder tagging "GT1" or "GT2" a concept worth exploring?

Marty says he'd like to come but I'm getting a bit tired of his "accident magnet" status. :D

I'll be texting around to some other club members to ask their availability. If I'm going to spend close to 2 hours building a track I'm going to want to see more interest.

Stay tuned

First of all, I want to say thanks all who came out Sunday.
I had a ton of fun. :)

Second, I want to thank TeeSquared for his contribution of a portable AC unit.
That really helped out in the pit area, as it gets so hot in there when we have these heat waves.

Third, if you've never been to CowboySir's at Whistler - GO - you won't be disappointed.

Super scenic drive on the sea-to-sky (both ways). :D

Always an awesome layout.

Great meal before the trek home. :)

So with just a little more than a wek to go I was wondering if we could have a discussion about a "stock" class of racing and heats set aside for this:

I know I'm not the only one who enjoyed the fact that the Whistler GTG had specific 70T/stock motor running heats. I'd like to ask that we plan for the same approach to our Newton GTG's...

Good idea?

(in a perfect world I'd love to see specific chassis and shell related classes (ie: 90mm narrow all round stock class) but that'd be a discussion for the future):D

I'm ready for it! I put together my 70T police car as a casual car for messing around the track, and it easily became my favourite car to drive. Not sure I would give that up to do a 90mm all-narrow, although that is what I started out with!

Can AWD run with 2WD in a 70T class? I could get a 90mm all-narrow setup there with minimal configuration changes.

I'm in for a 70t/stock/eco class. I think it worked great in Whistler. It really seemed to work well to alternate stock and open races.

I'd say 2wd or 4wd is all good in the "stock" class.

I also enjoyed how it worked out - Great job cowboysir!

As such I've been pondering it since - Here's what I'm contemplating moving forward.

Pretty much what was done in Whistler.

Two classes - Stock and open.

Try for two races per hour.
7 or 10 min. each.
One around the top of the hour. Other on the 1/2 - practice in between.

Also, for the F1 drivers, around lunch time, a 1/2 hour or so to practice and race with no other cars on the track. So bring out those F1's. :D

Thought's or feedback ???

cowboysir
2014.09.07, 11:00 AM
I like the added structure...not too much to call it real race event but enough to give you a focus on driving specific chassis for upcoming heats.

As an aside on the subject of F1 I would like all to know I have a spare that I will willingly loan out to interested drivers (until such time as I finish its new livery then hands off!):D

I'm in for the plan!

What's the word on the big track idea for the 5th? Response to Ryan not gaining any traction?

If we do plan this (and you know my view about making sure we have enough racers) I think we should force a bit more structure to the event. Having 12 to 15 racers trying to navigate 90cm sections together would be super frustrating when the eventual collision spins a racer.

If we maintain "stock-rubber only" and "mod" heats guys can pick a catagory (or race both) but be certain there will be less over speed "bump pass" scenarios.

The way we ran it in Whistler was super simple:

From a point in practice session I called a time to next race heat and catagory. When we got close (5min countdown) I called out heat and catagory for cell changes if needed.

Stock-rubber only is simply a stock motor or PN 70t or VE-Eco (tested to find its very similar in top speed with a bit more torque). We are our own policemen so anyone caught using foams or has overspeed compared to the group as a whole will be de-classified (and berated endlessly) during and after event.

Open is open...do what you want including foams.

I suggest that if we run an Enduro we should be allowed to pick a car but have the transponder labeled on screen as either "gt2-stock" or "gt1-mod". That way we have an overall place as well as a catagory place like they do in WEC

cowboysir
2014.09.20, 09:47 PM
Think we can put some time in schedule for F1? I can think of 6 people who might be there with F1s (and somebody could borrow my second) so practice and a heat would be nice.

I really hope we have a solid discussion about catagories.

xmodcanuck
2014.09.21, 12:52 AM
I think there should be classes for race and practice session. I don't want to be out on track practicing with my slow 90mm stock car and be creamed because soandso or whatshisface is out on track with their 29t foam tired monster and they don't know how to use their steering wheel. A track this size is going to attract the "go fast in a straight line" crowd just like it did last time. I'd rather not head home with a busted car.

I just remembered another question:

How is this room suited for our power requirements? The lower room only had two outlets for everyone and that made for a juggle....

That's not going to be a problem again is it?

RFick73
2014.09.24, 06:16 PM
It's an old building, power is at a premium. Heck, most of the outlets don't have a ground plig or the larger paddle side either.

There are about 4-6 outlets spread around the room from what I recall.

We will be bringing extra extension cords & making as many runs to the setup area as possible to make sure we have enough power for everyone.

Luckily our stuff doesn't draw much.

What he said.

There are more outlets than the basement but I didn't actually count them and determine how many had been upgraded to 3 prong or polarized.

We'll get the power where it needs to go but there will probably be some cords to navigate around.

http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/Dwwiebe01/20140917_1909151_zpsca76420e.jpg (http://s1002.photobucket.com/user/Dwwiebe01/media/20140917_1909151_zpsca76420e.jpg.html)

This is looking toward the "drivers stand" which is atop the 3 stairs. This would be the view from the "pit area". at the opposite end of the room.

All the furniture in the "lower floor area" is on wheels and will be relocated.
The pews on either side, one step up, will remain. (They didn't want us to move them so I'm guessing they would frown on us standing on them as well).

http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/Dwwiebe01/20140917_1916451_zps56f58ff8.jpg (http://s1002.photobucket.com/user/Dwwiebe01/media/20140917_1916451_zps56f58ff8.jpg.html)

This is looking from the drivers stand toward the pit area.
We'll setup a row of tables across the back for people to setup their pit area.
Additional tables can be setup in an adjacent room if necessary.

I have secured the use of Marty's track (half of which I have already picked up) as well as our own. So we'll have more 50cm and less 30cm.

I'm envisioning "class racing" similar to what we did in Whistler. It was simple, easy to manage, and it worked out great.

I want to schedule some "F1" time for at least a practice session and a race.

Possibly throw in some kind of enduro and/or back to back races with battery changes "on the fly".

Even though I have had 90mm narrow as my first Mini-Z ever since I first started, I don't think I could have raced in such a class at the time. I would have needed a race marshal on every corner!

For this 90mm class, are the dimensions restricted to 0* N all around, or are bodies with offsets allowed that still use the narrow front end?
e.g. Toyota Celica, 90mm narrow track, with 2.5*N front and 0*W back. Still not that great of a racer in my experience though, particularly on AWD. I still love my Nissan S15.

Hey guys!

I have a wee bit of exciting news! :D
Well, it is for me anyhow! :D

I've accepted a new full time contract at a local ISP & I'll be working from home.

My new schedule for the rest of this year will most likely be Fri & Sat off, & hopefully around Feb I'll be swapping to Sun & Mon off.
I'll be working from home, & once I get into the role more, I have the opportunity to work from abroad.
This basically means, so long as I have some coin to buy a laptop, I'll be able to come out racing on Sundays!
It will work more like an on-call shift those days. If I get a call or if something in their network goes down, I gotta work the issue.

But, there *IS* a light at the end of the tunnel!

Here's to hoping I can make it out again sometime soon!
The 9th will be my first day, so it won't be this GTG or possibly the next few, but, I'll play it by ear and keep ya all in the know.

I hope to see y'all out at the track soon!

I'd kinda need a Brushless ESC for that. =/

This is for my MR-03, not the VE :(

Yes, I do have one, but it's my MR-03 that I run as stock.

I honestly run my VE as my mod, I honestly feel it has more than the stock & just wouldn't run it in the class.

Unless we had Stock VE & Stoke Brushed classes, but were not quite there.

But maybe I'll look into swapping in an Eco.
Although I think my 50th Aniversary VE has a bit better of a motor than the typical stock VE.

cowboysir
2014.10.23, 09:01 PM
We have concluded that VE board and Eco motor are close enough in top end (has a bit more torque) to be considered "stock-GT2".

I think almost everyone that runs a VE at this point is using the Eco motor to great effect...even Gonzo mentioned at the last GTG how much he loved his.:D

Yeah, I tried a little harder after that...

Still, looks like we're almost starting to give you a little pressure!

When is the next GTG? I might strategically cancel my Monday class :o

Sunday November 2nd - here in Newton.

Hmmm.

Perhaps I can hear from a some other members as to whether they can make it on the 2nd.

We can run on the 9th if that works better. (I'm pretty sure that the Clubhouse is available).

Everyone let me know what works best. Post it here, PM or call/text.

I'd like to make a decision, based on your feedback, by Sunday night.

Thanks in advance.

I appreciate the efforts to re-schedule...since you guys know how rabid I am about racing these stupid little annoying beasts (s.l.a.b for short from now on) i'm sure that i make the racing entertaining (not from skill but for the eventual meltdown I'll have):D

The feedback was great. Thanks for all the input!!!

That was a real nail biter but the preferred date appears to be the 9th - albeit by a slim margin. ;)

Clubhouse has been rebooked accordingly.

Thanks again - we'll see you then. :D

Wow! Another assist on a decision that I had on my plate.

This week I drew up a very easy, well flowing (hopefully) almost all 3 wide track.
I didn't like the look of it - a bit to symmetrical, perhaps too easy etc.

So I drew up a another, still mostly 3 wide, but many more twists and turns to keep those 90mm narrow cars from getting bored!
I didn't like that one either - thought perhaps a bit to technical (It always looks tight on paper).

Enter the F1's.

With the list of possible F1 participants we have, possibly including a couple of drivers that aren't able to come out that often, I'm going to go with the first described "easier" layout, as I believe it'll be more "F1 friendly".

It should prove to be pretty fast track for our other car's as well.

See you Sunday.

Thanks everyone. That was a great time.

The layout was fast - as expected - and serious collisions were few. :D

The next GTG will feature the "more technical" one I drew up last week.

I'm gearing up for Nov 30th - just awaiting confirmation for the clubhouse - then we can make it official.

Who has two thumbs and had one of his best days yet?! (this guy:D)

Thanks for the hard work putting together that "point and shoot" masterpiece, Dave and Ryan....had a seriously good time.

Geoff, stock class lap times hit in the 9.5sec range. If you could keep your corner speed like Steve then you lapped very low 9 into the 8.xx range...I'm happy to report that my super stock car (it's not really mod since it matches daveW's 70T chassis) hit a 9.08sec:D

1. Abarth broke a knuckle from incidental contact
2. all my fronts understeered (cold track I guess)
3. my various issues trying to get the MR-SSC going
4. my general lack of focus being able to drive the race line...once things start going wrong I can't concentrate and charge with the group
5. having first lap collisions really ruins my flow and pretty much puts me a lap down right away...blows my motivation out the window.

Whatever...next round I'll put the boots to you all.:D

Had great racing today. Trying out Colin's FPV system was especially fun, shame they aren't a little cheaper.

Now I want to address a more delicate subject. I'd like to purpose there no longer be any kids at the meet. Or at a bare minimum if there are they are going to have to learn to behave. I don't recall a weekend were they aren't pillows on the track, objects flying in the air, the track ending up much dirtier then it needs to be etc. There was also an event that occurred today that was beyond acceptable that I won't go into online. All I can say is that I have had it and I know others have mentioned it as well. It is only a matter of time before a more serious incident occurs. Like said, perhaps a sensitive subject, but it is something that needs to be addressed moving forward.

cowboysir
2014.12.15, 09:25 AM
While I agree something needs to be done I think banning the boys means we lose DaveH from the group.... since he gets weekends with them he had to somehow manage having them and getting some racing in.

What can be done is up to Dave in my view...

First of all, I'd like to thank all who came out for Sunday's event.

I had a great time and, as always, appreciate the help with setup and teardown.

Colin's FPV was super awesome - I'd try that again in a heartbeat.
Boy did that cool down my heels without having a total "birds-eye view" of the track though.

I've always wanted to see it from that perspective. Thanks Colin.

Here was our setup - overpass and all!!

About that delicate subject regarding the kids.

I also agree that something has to change.
The boys have been disruptive - no doubt - kids will be kids.

I also agree that the ball`s in DaveH`s court at this time.

I'm curious Steve, if your cat s*it on your couch would you banish it outside and never let it in because it did one thing wrong????

Yes, absolutely that one thing that my child did was completely unacceptable behaviour and he was appropriately punished. Aside from that one incident, my children behave like.....well, like children. They are after all, children. Yes, sometimes while they are on their imaginary mission they forget about their real life surroundings and knock a pillow off the couch. They are children. And sometimes the falling pillow is a result of them fighting with each other, remember the part about them being children. Sometimes I do need to be very loud to get their attention when they forget where they are, do not mistake me being loud with me being angry with them. I'm not angry, I just know my children won't hear me if I ask them in a normal voice to fetch the pillow they knocked down, so I get loud. Regarding the one time the track got dirty...they've raced their hotwheels on the track several times before without issue. I dress my children in clean clothes and they play on the clubhouse floor and then the track gets dirty. So where do you think the dirt came from?
My childrens mother tells me all the time that she remembers doing this or that exact thing when she was a kid, I don't really remember being a kid like she does. I see other kids doing exactly the same thing my kids do so I know they are just normal kids. I know that many of you don't have kids so you don't know this, but my children behave like normal children.

A couple of you said the following

What can be done is up to Dave in my view...

I also agree that the ball`s in DaveH`s court at this time.

I disagree. Aside from the one incident of unacceptable behaviour, I am perfectly ok with my children behaving like children. I encourage them to use their imagination and make up stories and go on adventures. But it seems some of you aren't ok with my children behaving like children, so it's not up to me.
Chat amongst yourselves, hell, put it to a vote if you want. If you all decide my children aren't welcome then I won't bring them. Unfortunately Derek is right, if they aren't welcome I won't be able to come out nearly as often.

I don't have the option of putting out a plate of tuna and a bowl of milk and leaving them at home to fend for themselves.

Dave

Well I don't bring my cat to the meets so we can probably leave him out of this.

I think what appears to be anger from you is a little bit misplaced. Other then the one incident for the most part your kids are just being kids. I don't think anyone questioned that, said or implied otherwise.

If anyone walked all over the track it would get dirty, makes no difference who it is. That is why the rest of us don't walk on it.

It isn't up to me what happens at the meets, I was just making a suggestion based on current events. I show up, so I get to have an opinion, doesn't mean it carries any weight. There are actually quite a few people who feel similar to how I do but this isn't a majority rules situation. It is Ryan's club and Dave's venue.

And for Simon - this has nothing to do with taking driving or racing too serious.

Anyway, hope everyone has a Happy New Year and can make it to the meet on the 4th, I know I'll be there.

Had a great time. Thanks to everyone came and threw down some laps, the track was quite fast. Sorry for those who were unable to attend cause you missed a good one.

We setup the ISRL Feb layout just to play around on it and get some trial times established. Then, around noon, we switched to a full sized, (almost) full 3 wide layout like we're used to. Glad we did as that when we doubled the number of drivers (plus 5 guests checking us out).

Our next GTG is set for Feb 15th.

After a years hiatus at allowing Dave to design our layouts, I've taken back the reigns for this upcoming GTG & I've brought back the overpass!

Official announcment for the upcoming GTG (& it's layout) can be found >>HERE (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=455967&postcount=2)<<

I hope to see ya out @ the track!

Nice looking layout. I'm looking forward to a track with the overpass!

I picked up one of the pn spectrum boards from Derek for my Mr02... Its wired for the mr03 currently. I'm a bit scared to start re-wiring the steering servo stuff for the swap and was wondering if somebody in the club could give me a hand. I would love to be able to do the swap at the track so my brother and I could both do some laps at the same time.

If I make it I'll bring my soldering kit....unfortunately you didn't mention it was going into an 02 otherwise i couldve swapped the pot wires around before handing it over.

Long range forecast is looking hopeful but with my luck (and the Weatheroffice's need to give long term weather lies) it'll Kack out and I'll be working hard.

That looks like a totally wicked fun layout!

Unfortunately I am still under severe stress with work stuff which will reach its most intense point that following week so I won't be able to make it again.

I really, really hope to be able to show up to the next one! I should even get my home track set up before then to polish up my rusty skills...

I'm glad we changed Ryans layout. .. made the overpass super fun and flowing.

Had a great time gents even if there were too many avoidable incidents with Ryan. Cost me a possible win (very unlikely but since Steve was driving his meek awd it was feasible) and almost then cost me 2nd in that very same race.

Fingers crossed the weather is good for the next one. :D

Thanks to everyone who came out.
Definitely had a great time as well.

Thanks to Ryan for creating this events track and I hope he'll draw up some more! :)

Having the overpass is always a blast. It's just great to watch the reactions from drivers (myself included) when they expect to briefly loose sight of their car, but, for whatever reason, it doesn't come out the other side.
Ah yes, no panic there!

As mentioned Ryan's original design was changed after the original build. This is a pic of the original version. The changes only affected the area to the "left of the bridge". Removing the two hairpin corners, thus making it flow much better - great job Ryan.

It certainly was a great day indeed, I had an awesome time.

It made for a super fun layout!

I still have to work on my starts. .. the few races I didn't get booted on the opening lap were the one I was either third or fourth. With this group bring so tightly similar in speed now starting clean is the only way to get results.

Thanks again guys. See you in a couple weeks.

Two thoughts I had last night and this morning:

In a bit of retrospect on yesterday's event i felt I may have gone a bit overboard being snippy and poking fun at various club members. If anyone ever gets offended feel free to tell me to "stfu cowboy you're being too loud/obnoxious".

I also noticed we kind of threw the new visitors into the fray so to speak. ... we might want to consider giving them givinga bit of track time free from our pace so they can get used to the track without feeling like they are in the way.

Crap... I forgot I will have some family things on Sunday, and I will be out of town for part of April, so I may miss the next two meets again!

I've been pretty stressed out lately and I guess sought some retail therapy, so I will have several new fleet additions to test out! Nothing fancy though, I'm still all brushed motor...

Looking most forward to running my fully compliant 90mm narrow, Kyosho stock motor, hatchback, FWD  It has been pretty fun so far on my little home track.

The racing was close - especially when TheSteve ran "slower" cars.

Im pretty sure Steve's radio is not "module" equipped so much as the 4PK has a Z module hardwired....I doubt its the same pinout mod so even if he does show (very unlikely) you'll want to hand over your whole radio.

Due to the current heat wave the Whistler venue has been cancelled.
It would be just way to hot there.

Plan "B" was here in Newton but I'm lookin' for some feedback.

It is going to be smokin' hot in the clubhouse with the expected high temps.
I know our portable a/c unit helps a bit, but I think it's going to be pretty warm there.

I'm inclined to postpone to next week when the temps are expected to be a bit lower but I'd like to get some feedback.

I'd like to call this Friday night so let me know what you think!

For some reason I thought the meets stopped during the summer...had no idea you guys were still doing the odd GTGs as I've stopped checking back here regularly.

If next Sunday is a go and not a million degrees, I'd love to come throw down some laps. Dave, you still have my old AC unit right? Won't do the whole clubhouse but it should certainly help. Maybe set it up early in the morning and let it get a head start...

We do run all year long - though this summer seems to be a bit fewer times.
With all the smoke and the heat I'm sure glad we didn't try to go yesterday, I'm sure we would've had to quit early.

We've used the A/C unit quite often and it does help but yesterday was just stupid hot.

That behavior may be quite tough to tame. It is the same thing we see in AWD cars. As the front wheels grip the surface differently due to bumps etc the wheel with grip pulls the car heavily. In the case of an AWD car the best solution I have found is to use a gear diff instead of a ball diff up front. There is much less pulling action because the unloaded(less grip) wheel spins very freely with a gear diff. I'd say you'll want to experiment with toe in/out to see if there is a setting which will help self stabilize the car under power.

gctkaz
2015.07.14, 01:44 AM
Thanks for the advice, Steve.

I was running it with a ball diff which was set more on the loose side, I was suggested to tighten it up, which I did.... but now for my life I can't remember actually testing it again after the change. I might still have a hard buggy diff kicking around, I'll drop it in and try it again at home.

Front is toe-out 1 degree, rear toe-in 1 degree. I'd like to keep the rear toe in, but maybe I can go back to a 0-degree front. I just thought I'd try it with the toe out front and toe in rear since that's what the Tamiya M-05 Pro kit suggests...

As always, thanks to those that came out and ran yesterday,

Clubhouse was back to reasonable temperatures. (just got a bit warm when the pressure of a race was on)!

Super close racing - many tight battles were fought - it was a blast.

The layout was a modified version of one we ran late last year with the familiar 270' roundabout. It'll be different next time the bridge is out!
