Looks like we've got a Newton event for the 26th and a Whistler event for the 9 th of August (weather permitting)

Everyone get stoked for Mini Z!

Yes, the word is out!

Things have changed and July 26th is now a Mini-Z day in Newton. :D

For those how haven't been out for a while - come out and get some practice in prior to the big track in Whistler!

Hope lots of people can run at both events.
I, regrettably, can't make the 9th as things sit now.

So let Derek know you're coming, get up there and have a blast!
It's ALWAYS a great time there -- not to mention the awesome drive on the Sea-to-Sky.

Great layout and fun racing today!

It was nice to see that we've all improved comparitivily speaking since Grant was only 1 to 2 laps ahead.

Thanks to Dave for hosting. A great day of practice and racing. Very impressed with the Eco motor. The back to back 5 minute races are always fun. The racing was clean and everyone is getting faster. Looking forward to whistler in 2 weeks, lets hope for cool weather.

Whistler has been cancelled due to impending rain. :(

Grant has still offered up his home track tomorrow for those interested.
Reply here for more info if your interested.

Next GTG to be announced as soon as I confer with Dave W. on dates.
The Next GTG may be @ Grants depending on Dave W.'s availability.

Thanks again dave and all for a fun day....tech track layout made for tough setup changes that made me work at the bench more than usual but I feel it was worth the effort to get most of my chassis running strong on tight circuits.

Looking forward to next time.:D

Thanks everyone who came out yesterday. Track was a bit challenging but fun none the less.

There will be less hairpins next time. :)

Didn't get a pic though! :(

Awaiting reservation confirmation for the clubhouse on Sept 20th.

Well, looks like the endless summer has ended.

Therefore, I'm announcing a GTG here in Newton for Sunday, Sept 20th.

Come on over, get out of the rain and throw down a few laps.

and all you losers that didn't come out missed an epic!

Sick layout that for some reason i was very attuned to and DaveW and I battled hard for every heat win. It amounted to one of the best events I've been to....

Thanks again dave for hosting and putting up with the occasional trash talk (after we calm down from the high stress of trying to drive fast and error free).

Thanks to everyone who came out.
We even had the seldom seen BokChoy drop in and shake some of the dust off his cars.

That was, without a doubt, one of the best days ever from my perspective.
I have never seen it so quiet during races. Each race was so intense.
Everyone was very consistent and lap counts were very close indeed.

Whatever you ate for breakfast cowboy, keep it up. Those battles were a ton of fun.

Sorry for the late post. I'm having some computer challenges that's eating up my spare time.

Here's this events layout.

So 2 events in a row and I can't be any happier with today's results. Not only did I post 4th fastest in practice I held my own against our faster members (one who insisted on driving an "illegal" power level during our stock heats.

I'm finally getting the hang of this whole mini z thing.

Another AWESOME day.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and to those helping with the setup/teardown.

We had a few more people than last time, it increases the levels of both challenge and fun when we have more cars on the track.

Thanks to Ryan for the track design, it worked out really well. It was pretty technical, without being over powering. Lap times for the most part in the 10's with some dips into the 9 second slot (and of course 1 person who ventured into the 8's ).

Ryan's agreed to design the track for our next GTG as well, I'm looking forward to see what he offers up. :D

Here's todays layout.

Sorry to those I played pin ball with. I was going close to 48 hours without sleep and was severely overcaffinated. Perhaps a tad hung over as well :o

Even so, I managed a 9.21 with my mod car and a 9.89 with a stock motor RM car. I'm pretty pleased with those lap times

Sunday was a blast. That was a great layout!

Our driving has certainly evolved as time goes on. It's getting much cleaner and much more competitive for the top spots. Catching a rail and other mistakes are much more costly than before - It's great! - I call it "good stress".

As discussed, words getting out earlier, so hopefully more can make it out and enjoy some "good stress". :D

Another fine day. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Layout certainly was fast around the outside "loop" and the chicane added a nice challenge as well.

A few more people made it out this time which also added to the excitement with more traffic on the course.

Our next GTG is in two weeks on Dec 6th.

Thanks all who made it out.

Had a few less people due to the weather etc. This made for lots of room on the track. The layout was fairly quick and as usual we had a lot of fun.

If one was to look careful, they would see that our overpass has expanded. Dave H, who has been super busy, took the time to build us a "1" wide section to add to the bridge. This gives us the option to use it "2 wide" as we have been or expand it so it's three tiles wide. That removes the bottle neck that has been a challenge at times especially when more cars hit the course. It was great to drive on today. Thanks Dave.

Our final GTG of the year will be Sunday the 20th. It's really close to Christmas but the 27th is spoken for. I'm expecting fewer people - which means more room to run so don't miss out!

Here's a pic with the new overpass expansion installed.

On another note: Every car I raced yesterday ended up broken at one point. It was rough out there!

cowboysir
2015.12.22, 09:29 AM
Sounds like I missed some rough racing. ...

I'm wondering if we should discuss splitting up the heats now that we have some new members. It might be best for everyone if the new guys had some track time without faster members hitting them when the eventual spin happens. It would also keep the fast members cars free (ish) from damage and allow for a race without dramatic interruptions.

There might also be an opportunity to focus the new guys towards "stock" class chassis...I recall the last time I was there Jake (or his brother?) was running a juicy motor in a wheelbase incredibly unsuited to the power that he'd flip/crash almost every lap. 90cm max width and over powered motors dont mix well with novice racers.

Something to think about for 2016.

Happy holidays all. Hope to see you in the new year.

I have created this one thread for the 2016 Season & *ARCHIVED* all the older ones together. (2015 will be archived by the end of January)

This thread will be for chat & the GTG Announcements. If people feel the GTG Announcements are getting buried in the thread, I will break them out like the previous years.

Be sure to subscribe to this thread & also provide RFick73 with your contact info to be sure that you receive an EMailed notification of the GTG's & also a TXT reminder. DaveW & I will try to keep up on those notifications & reminders a bit better this year!

We will be re-introducing class races this year. It's a last final push to see if we can get members to *conform*. :D We will also be setting aside an hour or so around lunch if there are any newer drivers out to have their own track time, we can perhaps add in another half hour here & there as well. We may actually setup GTG's this year specifically for those newer members, keep an eye out for that too.

I hope that some members will help with drawing up layouts this season as DaveW & I are starting to scrape the barrel on ideas. Having fresh ideas always helps! I'll be going through older layouts & possible creating a thread to post them up so people can even vote on what previous one they want to re-run again.

We hope you all have a great 2015 season, we wish you Happy Holidays, A Happy New Year & most of all, we hope to see y'all out at the track this season!

I think we might want to take a quick read at some of arch2b s thoughts and try something of the like for our club.

1. With our club size we likely would only plan for teams of 2.
2. We could stick to one car or program a "team" transponder to swap from car to car....possibly during the "pit stop" aspect of the race.

For this race proposal I am adamant that we should use a common motor type but allow for various chassis. Eco blue might be the easiest to plan for. ...

RFick73
2015.12.30, 09:14 AM
I would like to give that type of race a chance & try others again that we have done in the past.

I think we will all be doing a little more conversing during our GTG's, maybe around pizza time. See what people like, what they wanna see, what they are comfortable with etc.

Hope ta see y'all out on the 10th! Official announcement to come.

All of these ideas sound like good ones. I like the idea of two-member enduro teams!

In particular though, I think running novice and "pro" heats is a logical step to cut down on the chaos we see on the track sometimes. Hopefully fewer broken cars too

We will be re-introducing class races this year. It's a last final push to see if we can get members to *conform*. :D
This is a good idea. Seems like the only way to do this is to specify motors.
We will also be setting aside an hour or so around lunch if there are any newer drivers out to have their own track time, we can perhaps add in another half hour here & there as well.
This seems a bit excessvie to me. When I was a mini z newb, if I wanted more track time I made sure I was one of the first if not the first to arrive. If the newbs show up early, then give them the first 20-30 min on track and then, sure, another 20-30 min at lunch. But to say to those of us that show up to get as much track time as posssible "You have to sit on your a$$ and do nothing for an hour and a half while the newbs have the track." yeah, no, that's not cool.
We may actually setup GTG's this year specifically for those newer members, keep an eye out for that too.
This falls under the hour and a half thing. "We're having a race day but you can't come because you have too much experience." Again, not cool. How much experience is too much experience?

I have nothing against newbs coming out, but instead of excluding us or them why not just clearly explain to them some 'racer etiquette'.
Don't fight with someone passing you when you're in last place.
Look back on the track before you reverse from hitting the wall.

In particular though, I think running novice and "pro" heats is a logical step to cut down on the chaos we see on the track sometimes. Hopefully fewer broken cars too

After having a quick chat I've revised my thoughts and thought I'd like to explain further:

When I first joined the club and had low intermediate skill at piloting a mini z I got very frustrated whenever I helped/caused a collision during a race. It made me feel like I wasn't improving because I didn't have the space to drive my car without being bossed around by the faster club members on track (bossed around=being crashed into/spun/hit without provocation).

My goal in suggesting separate heats was not only about minimizing impact damage but to allow the novice members am opportunity to get track time free of the interference of getting crashed by the faster members. My hope is that the more open track will help newer members speed their improvement.

1. We normally run tons of practice time so getting spun isn't an end to a position in an important heat.

2. (I hate the use of newb let's stop because being new to the mini z scene doesn't mean they haven't rac ed RC) I mistakenly used the term one and I apologized to the member who took offense.

3. We can run mixed (novice and other) heats but I feel that'd be very important to make it a stock class event so the disparity in speeds is minimal.

4. The occasional novice heat would allow for focus on racing and looking ahead instead of the sensory overload of watching out behind as backmarkers. I honestly wouldn't mind sitting out or acting as marshal

5. "Expert" (I use that term very loosely for some of you :p) heats can be any power level.

We all started somewhere and I just think it'd be helpful if we are all mindful of that. I realize that I made myself sound like a pompous ass (per usual really :D) in my last post of 2015 thread and needed an opportunity to clarify so we don't alienate members.

Happy new year all. ...let's hope you all suck more than me next year

Whether you came out only once, every single time or something in between - glad you could make it.

Veteran drivers and "newbees" as well - also glad you could make it.

I've had a great time this year and want to wish everyone a happy new year.

2016 is going to be so much fun!

See you at the track!

Happy 2016, gentlemen. I had some thoughts but they have already been covered by others. Fully support class races. There's fun in driving slowly, fun in driving fast. I'm happy driving 70T all day and I did during the last meet, but that did cause some trouble once the faster cars came out to play.

Anyway, Derek mentioned Eco blue - is almost everyone here running VE in some form or another? Just wondering if it's almost time for me to buy in...

I wish i could make it out to this one but will need to miss it. I got my eyes on a few of those autoscales Xmodcanuck. can you pit the nsx aside for now please.

I like the ideas being tossed around for the new year and thought I would add a few cents to the jar...

I like the idea of "class" racing and not "skill" racing. Setting up races that limit speed etc is more appealing to me and I am more likely to enjoy racing with evenish playing fields. (I realize I don't have the skill to race in the class my VE car falls under...so in the future, If anyone wants to have a Mod class race, I don't mind sitting out or marshaling.)

which brings me to my firsts question... since my go to car is the VE red motor and I don't have extra funds to buy the eco motor... can we agree on an EPA setting for thottle to make it fit the stock class.

With all the discusion about racing and classes, until I can fit in a suitable class, I will probably sit out of the main races and just drive during the practice heats as I have more fun trying to beat my lap times over trying to beat another racer.

A few Ideas I have had over the holidays...

Duel racing between 2 people so they can have 5 min or less to duke it out on the track with no interruptions. the race can go till the 5 min is up or until one person laps the other ending the race early. I think this would be just as fun to watch as it would be to race. And to make it fair only one duel per person per meet.

Another thought for a race would be to all take turns racing a stock club chassis to see who gets the fastest time with the same car and setup. ( Steve goes last☺)

I find it hard to see progression from meet to meet since the track changes every time. I may be asking some more experienced drivers to do some laps with my car to give me a time to beat. This will help me get to know my car more and where I can tune it better.

looking forward to more laps this year!

Sure no problem.

In short, no. We've tried this and it just doesn't work.

Let's say we both turn out radios down to 60. On my radio, I can turn down the end point from 100 to 60 and it makes no difference to the top end. Maybe your radio behaves differently. I don't know how your radio works so how would that even things up.

I think the biggest problem you have with your VE is your setup. Make it 98mm, so much easier to deal with the power.

Fun it was!

Thanks to all who made it out.

It was my first attempt to incorporate a "alternative route". This was to be a "short cut" but would also entail slower speeds to make it a bit more "equal".

Lets just say that after the bypass was decommissioned, de-constructed and the track reconfigured it became quite a bit faster which made for some quick times.

I'm putting the bypass at the back of the shelf for now, but I'm still gonna rummage around the closet and see what else I can find to try. :D

Here she is in all her glory. (Prior to demolition).

A bit late posting, but that was a lot of fun!

Thanks to those that we able to participate, and thanks to Derek created our first member submitted track!

That was a challenging layout that demanded a lot of concentration but we fought to slowly shave those 1/100's of a second off per lap.

I'm looking forward to more ideas from Derek and others - thanks.

Those stock races sure are getting close. I think it bugs me a little that a crash can cost someone a win but I guess that is just incentive to drive as clean as possible :D (Edit: I'm calling the kettle black here cause I've caused wrecks that have drastically altered the outcomes of races :p It was certainly a good experience for me to get taken out and then not be able to climb back up before the race was over)

Also, I enjoyed the lack of carnage this time! (Broken cars that is)

I was thinking about the first Whistler event for mid-July....if you're not free then i'll wait until August for a group event.

As far as July goes, as much as I LOVE coming up there, I can't commit.
My employer is going away for the month and I've got the helm, so I'm going to be a busy boy.

Hi guys, I'm definitely coming to the next gathering. Mini-z is a old passion of mine, my material is not up to date... and the nail kit might be very very rusty, but I guess it's like riding a bike... you never forget. I've been around for at least 15 years in this hobby, used to run a big club in Portugal alongside many friends and organized hundreds of races including the PN World Cup 2007 and traveled around the world competing in many others....good old young days :)
My professional life made me jump from Portugal to UK, then Singapore and now Vancouver, and one thing always comes along... the old dusty Mini-Z box, since I know there will be always a small group of enthusiasts nearby.
I'm delighted to know that you guys have a track and get together from time to time to enjoy this common sport. Count me in for sure! 1 month counting down....

oh quick question, what transponders do you use? Giro-Z, Kyosho?

cowboysir
2016.05.28, 07:53 AM
We use the trackmate transponders....we usually have spares around for new members to use and TheSteve works for them so if he's at an event you can usually buy one from him.

I know he can't make the next one so I'll be sure to remember a spare....

Are you still on AM or do you have a 2.4? I ask because most of the transponders are plug and play but if you're on AM I'll grab one that'll fit your terminal leads.

Hi guys,

I just went nostalgic and searched for the last event I organized, it was at my working place, to help raise funds for a LEGO poster of the Dark Knight Rises that was extremely expensive to buy all the pieces. This was done with the support of my 'local' club that provided the track and I took care of everything else, teaching 30 people how to drive a mini-z for the first time, qualifications during lunch time, finals during beer and pizza... 1000 people work in that place so you can imagine how crazy it was. Totally worth it.

Oh man, first time running on 30cm tracks, loved every second of it, layout was excellent. You guys have a really nice pace and you take good care of your cars. This is the right environment to properly get back to it. I haven't lost the hands, but cars wise I have a lot to catchup, I cant change a single setting on my cars that are a mix of old junk put together to run straight, you've seen it...

Ryan, that 90mm DS3... sooo much fun!!!!

We need to get a nice group running Formula 1, it's where you learn to not make mistakes, to risk and you pay the price for being over aggressive. F1 gets your hands sharp, I like to run a pack of F1 every 4 packs of GT since it's a magnifier of the problems you're having on track. I usually correct my trajectories with the F1 because you need to be very clean driving it. Believe me, there's nothing like being in a track with other 5 F1s respecting each other, the pinnacle of Mini-Z racing.

I think we can grow with each other instead of pointing fingers at each other. Definitely limiting the motors to stock is a nice step, I think the only way for a driver to learn how to drive fast is to squeeze the slowest motor he has first, before trying a new one. Car setup on point, trajectories on point, respect on track on point, then you try a new motor. Not so in favour of limiting the tires, but that's another discussion. I can see a lot of people worried with how fast you can pull a lap, but there's definitely way more important stuff to work on.

Someone asked me why I wait for people when I'm racing, well, that's how I used to train with my team, it breaks the rhythm a bit but there's nothing as important as chasing someone or being chased, so I wait for the battle to happen from time to time. During practice you fine tune the car, during race you test your nerves, better to loose and have a good battle than to win alone in the track. That's my style, we're not actually racing for a title, we're learning.

What a pleasure, hope to see you soon.

ps: please get me one of this tiny transponders.

+1 on the layout for this meet (Thx Dave). It was really challenging and that hammerhead that was only two tiles just before the main straight was a SOB to get right. I don't think I mastered it any only really stuck that corner a handful of times the entire day.

Bah, and I just sold my F1 a few months ago :( But I like your thinking Carlos!

RFick73
2016.07.18, 01:15 PM
Nothing yet. We are in need of someone to find us a place to host our GTG's at for the next month or two as Dave W. is working on Sundays for a while.

If anyone knows where we can run for ~$50/day, let me know!

I am looking at other alternatives but they are in the ~$100 range so we would need a good turn out. We need to get the guys that haven't been coming out back out to run with us again.

I'd also like to put together a big layout again sometime soon. If anyone has any leads, please PM me!

You should try Marty to see if he can connect with his friends at his old place. That venue was a good size....

I'd like to organize a big layout but my summer is turning out to be a major shi show. Working 5.5 to 6 days and i may have lost another staff member to a family death.

It really sucks because I have a schwack of track that's been sitting for a long while now.

RFick73

I spoke to Marty, he is unable to reserve that room anymore. I do recall he had someone in that complex that was interested in Mini-Z. I messeged him asking if he could reserve it & I'm awaiting back. I've asked Colin if he'd like to host again & waiting back on him. We had a newer guy show up a few times that was totally gung ho, he said he had others & then he just never came back out again. =/

The Newton Library may actually be a spot we can look at, they have a room & it's close to Dave's so it should be easy to get the track there & back. They want about $20/hr so it's a $150/day. It's only slightly bigger @ 30'x27' with a small 7'x16' section on the side.

Hi guys,

Any predictions on a new meet?

I'm currently building my cheap track, can't afford RCP but the cheap foam tiles apparently are working really well and they perform as good as the smooth side of the RCP, so I'm getting more and I'll book a meeting when this is all set.

Maximum I can do is a 5x5 meter track in the media room of my building, having the other room to set up some tables and chairs to tune the cars.

Track width is 60cm which makes it very interesting and challenging, maximum of 3 cars at a time.

I believe another month until I'm able to organize this.

Hi guys, I have some exciting news, going to move to a new building that has an amazing common space for rental, some nice 12x15 meters of clear space, tables, chairs, kitchen and outside bbq. Rental is 100$ from 10am-10pm so if you guys are in to chip with a tener we're good to go for some regular races in downtown. I definitely want to organise one race as soon as I settle in.

Sounds like a very nice opportunity!

You might want to discuss with Ryan. I had a recent text with Dave W who let me know he's locked into work (therefore cannot host) for the next 6 weeks. If we can get something going in the meantime.....:D

cowboysir

I spent the evening pondering this new opportunity and had some ideas to put forward:

Does your new place have any storage space, Carlos?

I ask because I thought that instead of having Dave W (who obviously doesn't have the time) trying to cart all his gear back and forth I could donate some of my track and etc to the cause over the wintery months.

The other obvious questions are about parking, lunches power requirements and etc but available storage might be the first obstacle to clear.

DaveW

Carlos, it sounds like a great opportunity to get some time in a bigger space.
As mentioned work has demanded more of my time, possibly up to the next six weeks.

Ryan and I were discussing this very item last night. Perhaps if you have the space, we can also make available some 50cm to use over the winter.

Don't know when your moving in and if you able to fill the void till things return to normal as far as my schedule goes, but it'll be great to have another venue we can use as an alternate in the future.

I also have some good news for the club. I just received permission to use the clubhouse where i live in Langley. The room size is 36' x 32' mostly carpeted with a small tile area. I was given a special rate by the site manager. The rental fee is normally $75.00 but as i am well liked, for the club it will be $35.00. plus a deposit of the same amount. The schedule is wide open, we can have any Sunday we want. I have quite a bit of 30cm Rcp, i bought new from Ryan. However i do not have as much as the club. I have my own overhead loop built, Flipside software, laptop and speakers if needed. But probably best to use the clubs computer to save time. I have plenty of storage area at the house, as extra track will be needed. There are lots of tables, chairs and a large kitchen. We can move anything we want. The parking is good on site. As for having pizza for lunch nothing opens before 4pm in the area. I am located just of 24th ave and 200th street. There is a pub on the corner and a strip mall at 41 ave. There is a Mcdonald's and a subway there. I am going to get in touch with Ryan. I would like to get a meet going for Sunday, October 2nd.

Hi guys! Back to life, just moved in and still sorting stuff out. Looks like we have 2 new places! That's awesome news! I'm in for the 2nd October for sure.

The idea of having some rcp over for the winter is nice but I have to check if there's any storage area since in my apartment is difficult to do.... or my wife would kill me for filling up the den with a mini-z track :) I just had a sneak peak at the calendar bookings and people here move pretty quick in terms of bookings, we'll have to book in advance...a month in advance, or we'll have to stick with the few days other people didnt book. I'll try to take a picture of the bookings so we can start thinking about dates.

Meanwhile...let's meet next weekend at The G's!

Next Club GTG:

Sunday, Oct. 2nd

Layout still in the works. We will be using Grant's 30cm & some of the clubs 50cm. There may be lots of open floor space the first time, but filling this room is gunna be tricky! If this is going to become an ongoing thing, we will try to get more of our 50cm over to Grant's to make the layout even more awesome. (If he doesn't mind storing it that is)

This one will be held @ Grant's Place in Langley

The Club House is at the back to the right of the pond.

Make use of any parking spot that's not a driveway. There are 3 spots near the clubhouse & another 6 near the entrance.

Cowboy, there's parking indeed at my place, I have 1 spot for my unit and I can ask the building for some guest spots in advance, around my spot I never saw a car so we can even use it and put a paper saying we're on the common room in a special event if suddenly someone comes in. Another good news, I just saw a storage space in another closed room that is called the Arts&Crafts room, where currently there's only a ping pong table, some old chairs and plenty of space to keep some RCP. I will need to contact the manager to ask if this will be possible, if this is well introduced, they might even like the idea since I'm gonna make our event something big for the building so we can get some new members. Let's see.

Would you guys be interested in October or November?

Looking forward for this weekends meet!

If you can sort the storage and feel confident no one will steal it (acess to room for all unit owners? ) then I'd say let's get a meet at your venue for end of October before I get my snow blowers in my truck for the winter. I obviously won't bring it all but if the stars align I could bring enough to fill a good amount of floor space.

A big thanks to everyone to make this possible. It was nice to have all the early arrivals to help with setup. A lot of messaging to both Ryan and Dave W. Thanks for use of the clubs 50cm Rcp and computer for the first meet at my clubhouse. Ryan a big thanks for a great track layout in a room you had never seen. Also getting my laptop setup for the next gtg, i just have to fix the headphone jack. The track measured out at 27'x26.5' Ryan to max out the room next time. A good overall turnout, nice to see Steve it has been a while. I have to build a proper cart to make moving that 1000lb pool table easier. The site manager was very impressed with the pictures and video i showed her. For future events all extra chairs and tables can be put outside under the buildings back covered area. This will free up the room a bit for us. We can book the room for multiple day events. If we rent the room for a Sunday gtg we have permission to setup the day before at 1pm. Derek sorry to see you go early. The transition between carpet and tile floor improved as the rcp warmed a little and shaped to the floor. Anyways if need next time i will have some cardboard to fill the area. Thanks to all who helped and i will be in touch with Ryan planning the next one.

Thanks for hosting us this time Grant, it is an excellent new venue! :D I loved the huge layout too. I definitely need more practice on bigger tracks because I found the technicality of the layout very challenging. "Snooker turn" was vexing. I'm not a huge fan of sharp 180s at the end of a straightaway!

It's not very often I'm not the one doing a majority of the traction rolling :D

I had a chance to take a look at Carlos' venue at his place down town and man, let me tell you guys it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The building is very modern, well lit, not too hot or cold, and the room for the track has two large outdoor patios we could pit in during the summer. There is a BBQ and a full sized and fully equipped kitchen, which means I'd be inclined to do some cooking for the meets (I cook a lot and am rather good at it, for those who don't know about my other hobbies :) ). Did I mention the swimming pool and hot tub to relax in after the day is over?

It's fantastic guys, we really can't pass up the opportunity! There is ample underground secured parking so I seriously doubt it will be a problem. It would make sense for people to car pool all the same though. I live about 20 minutes from Carlos' place and I am happy to drive someone down with their gear if they want to park at my place. I am near highway #1 in Burnaby.

I heard a few people at the meet saying that it's "too far away" and "too expensive" which i find confusing given the coin some of you drop on your cars or how out of the way 200th and 24th ave is but I guess to each their own :) I implore you guys to reconsider. It's a top notch venue and we would be racing in luxury, not to mention the opportunity to bring in new members and grow the club :)

TeeSquared

If we get at least 5 people to commit, its $20 each. It gets cheaper the more people commit. It won't be as cheap as our other venues, we can't avoid that...

$20 will barely buy you a set of tires shipped from Banzai, for perspective.

Track storage is an unaddressed issue though.

Gladi8or

Hey guys!

First of all, let me congratulate Grant and everybody involved in putting this track together in this venue, absolutely adorable day of racing, I had tons of fun and it was totally worth the drive there with my mate Thomas, thanks again for sharing the ride. We had some great battles, I finally have a bit more time to learn this new cars and I've been working hard to find an acceptable setup, still have to retire that good old mr02 27am that I ran in stock class, but slowly we'll get there.

I'm thrilled for the next race guys, wherever it is! That leads to the second point, my venue. Don't want this to be an issue for sure, it's another option that is on the table if Grant can't host. Like Thomas said, place is ridiculously nice and for sure I want to host at least a one off race one of this days, I want to do something different, want to get some advertising on the building to bring some new people to the club and definitely end the day relaxing by the pool.
I propose something, if we can get 6 to 7 people, if you commit with 10 bucks, I'll put the rest and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed or you'll get your money back and I'll give up organizing races for good :)

Secure storage I'm working on it, very soon I'll have an answer, we have a secondary room in the building that only has a ping pong table and some old chairs. It is accessible by the residents but needs registration and can only be opened by the amenities reception guy and there's cameras, so it's pretty much monitored. My only issue is not safety, is actually to convince the manager of the building to use a common space as storage, that's why I need to propose something interesting for the building so I can claim that bit of storage is for common interest ;) All part of the master plan...

You guys just let me know if there's enough people interested and when.

Meanwhile I'm gonna build up a fake cheap track that I'm gonna use for training and I already have penciled an event at the company that I work, hopefully I'll get a couple of new members soon.

Gladi8or
2016.10.07, 04:08 AM
ps: Steve... I'm still not convinced you're 'retired', we need good people racing buddy, it's frustrating to see the fastest driver pulling off each time we race, c'mon let's do this, you still have fire in there, I can see it. Put this in perspective, if I can do it, and I did this for 10 consecutive years, then stopped for 5 and now I came back from the dead... for sure you can! It would definitely help me get back into race shape trying to follow you and your crazy bullet cars.
I don't know about you guys, but next year I'm racing the World Cup again since they will probably come back to the US after 2 years in Europe, we can aim for a BC crew to be part of it, maybe one day we can host one here.

hah - I've been doing RC for 31 year. When the mood strikes I'll race, the rest of the time I am happy to just do laps and challenge myself to see how fast of a lap I can do.
Last Sunday in the last hour or so Grant and I had some awesome battles, he had his mod car going and I was racing him with my stock car. I was working extremely hard on track with less power. Him pushing me to try harder did get me into the 13's with my stock car though.

In talk's with Ryan about continuing to use my clubhouse on November 6th. . We need to let people know about future meets well in advance. I didn't enjoy the setup of the track with just The Steve and myself. The room is too large and I won't do it again. The tear down was much quicker thanks to Thomas and Carlos for the help. I got a lot more driving in at least, but my driving and mental focus is still way off. The upgraded parts and tuning change's I made helped quite a bit. I think I'll be back on form in two weeks. Gonna talk to Dave W about getting as much 50cm track to speed things up. Thanks again, also nice to see Derek get a solid day of running in.

Sorry to hear Grant :( I do like the new venue a lot and I'd be sad to see it go. I think you are on the right track (pun intended) to get as much 50 cm track available to use as possible since the space is more than big enough for it. Maybe it's worthwhile considering less technical, higher speed tracks so they are even easier to set up and tear down.

Another thing to consider would be running later in the day. You'd probably get more people out to help set up that way. I don't think too many people are all that keen about being AT the track for 8:30 on a Sunday. Too early! I know lots of you work early during the week though so its not a problem for those individuals.

btw, in terms of setting up the track it was a pretty massive build for just Grant and myself. Three or more people would be much more ideal/manageable. Also the 50cm stuff does go together at double the speed of 30cm so the more 50cm the better.

I'd vote for the 13th as well:

1. I'm away until the 10th of Nov
2. It's still likely that there won't be any snow to the valley yet.

I'd be keen on either venue.

Thomas, joking aside no one said my venue is going anywhere. With better notification and some larger turnouts things will improve. Having a sit down with Dave W and Ryan will be a huge help. The 50cm track is the only way to go for a larger venue. To be as efficient as possible, with as few people that have been showing up. I have some idea's that will make set up much faster next time.

Hi guys, that was another lovely day of mini-z, thanks everybody for showing up and thanks Grant for hosting, super exciting layout, fast and not forgiving, a lot of work needed to get those sharp corners straight, super fun!

Regarding the setup and tear down, this time we could only stay for the second, it is indeed a bit difficult to make it by 8.30, meaning to wake up around 6.30, leaving home 7.30 on a Sunday is a bit of a push. This could work much better if we meet on Saturdays and stay late.

Other thing I would suggest is to separate the practice days and the race day, it's too different events, we should do a race day every other 2 practice days. By racing day I mean we pay a bigger sign in fee that includes a prize to be offered in a draw between everybody and a trophy for the winner of each class, organize rankings and a championship!
We should do podium and photos and start advertising this online and so some public events. How do you expect the club to grow and the motivation to ramp? I'm pretty much flat line, the only thing right now is the individual battles with Thomas and try to beat Steve's best lap.... I need more, it get's boring to be honest... I don't know about you, but I still have a lot to learn and my age no longer let's me do what I was capable 10 years ago... believe me... it takes a toll.

If you guys want a nicely structured race, I volunteer to do this once, I won't race, just organize and make it super appealing for everybody, Grant's place is fine, there's only one rule, schedule is set... you turn up, race the hell out of it and enjoy yourselves, leave the rest with me. If this sounds all bonkers and you're fine doing just practice.... fair enough... I rest my case :)

Awww...nobody can get up in time to drive across town to help out. :p

If I can get down from 2hr away in time to sort of help out I think you guys could show a little initiative once in a while (we hold an event every three weeks at best?)

As for structured events, I don't know if our group is big enough to warrant the classic practice, qualify heats, various mains. It might be interesting to set up an event as such but it might lose people's interest over time....that and some members wouldn't bother setting cars to qualify for categories.

It looks like the consensus is the 13th? If so I won't be able to make that date as I'll be flying home from Vegas just around the same time you guys are done racing. :(

That's okay, there's always another GTG! :D

We just need to get a few more people out to the track to help setup & teardown.
If people want to start a bit later or run later later at Grants & he's willing to do that then that can work, but some of us have families and like to have dinner with them. Yes, I know it's only one day so I am sure I'll be able to work something out for staying later.

I will be working with Grant to host a weekend long GTG, I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a night race or an extended Le Mans style race at all during that time.

Cheers!

Well, I just spoke to Grant & it looks like we are going for Sunday, Oct. 6th.

I will wait a day or so to post this just to make sure we don't get a 25%+ can't make that date response.
I am aware that Derek won't be able to make that date & Steve will be a bit later. Any others unable to make the 6th?

Also, we briefly spoke about a weekend GTG. We will be potentially booking Grant's clubhouse for Nov. 26 & 27th. Can y'all make it either or both of those days? I'm waiting to hear back on an overnight running. More info to come!

I'm in for the 6th, depending on Thomas for the time to get in if he gives me a ride, will confirm as soon as possible.

Regarding the 27th, just need to understand what's the plan, I find the endurance idea very interesting but again... if there's no structure, no teams, no marshalls, I won't see myself driving alone for 3h straight just for fun.

On the other hand... if we're talking about some good 6h, teams of 2, day and night race, handout motor, mandatory marshalling, proper podium, trophies and freaking champagne by the end, then we're talking about some serious fun :) Count with me for 6h....12h....24h.....3 days if you want.

Here's a rough idea of what I have in store for you! It's more of a guideline really...
The bottom part should be JUST above the seam in the (dance?) floor section so it should be smooth sailing!

http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac132/RFick73/RC_Stuffs/RCP%20Track%20Layouts/2016-11-06_zpsail46tsm.png

I'll get around to re-drawing those adapters now that I made them bigger. They were 100cm-->60cm initially. Now they are 100cm-->90cm, a lot less noticeable...

I hope to also draw up the wide 50cm Wide Radius Turn that we have too. I took a stab at it but without better pictures I think I'm rather off a bit. I'll be sure to assemble it at this GTG & take a picture so I can include the pieces into the RCP Track Editor. I'd like to use it in the left hand chicane section as I think it would be interesting.

Hope ta see y'all out at the track next weekend!

The lane on the left is as wide as the freeway! Do we need a 1.5 meter wide portion of track?
The 30cm portion looks awesome.

Also, do people like "wide" inside turns made out of outside turns? I like proper wide inside turns but find the reversed outside turns just lead to uglier impacts when someone gets it wrong.

As I mentioned, it's all really more of a guide. I was trying to make the chicane as flowing as possible but still have to make you swerve to get through it.

I don't recall anyone having issues with them. I used to incorporate them all the time & kind of missed them at the last meet.

Everyone else's thoughts?

cowboysir
2016.11.01, 08:58 PM
Since I cant participate my opinion doesn't really factor in but my 2 cents worth is:

1. while you do create a bit more room for the corner you create 2 impact zones mid corner instead of just the one

2. It creates a weird angle of approach, attack and exit for the corner instead of a typical 90

3. I understand Grant has some friends showing for the event who may not have Z experience and creating a double apex corner may not suit a new driving experience.

On a sidenote (and in keeping with Carlos thoughts on achieving higher visitor numbers) you may want to consider tightening up the overall spread of the track so you allow for more room for driver pit area. The attached metal room is only big enough for 3 tables (6 people) so if you want convince more people to come out and make good use of the massive space you should consider sacrificing a little track geography for the pit table usage.

The following will be the Clubs new Fee structure as of January 1st 2017

The club will be changing it's fee structure in the new year due to rising costs in common room rental & equipment to run our GTG's.
Attendance is also down & the club needs to recoup for that. Please spread the word to your friends about us!!!
Please be sure to let any and all of your friends know about the club & if you have any ideas on how we can grow our membership, please let us know!

Grant's Common room is more expensive than the common room in Newton. With that & the fact that we want to continue to run at Grant's and make it as easy as possible for setup & teardown, both the club & Grant will be purchasing some more 50cm track. We also would like to start trying to get some prizes together here and there so the extra income will also help with that. If you know of somewhere that is selling used 50cm, please let us know!

The new entry fee is as follows & is still less than $20 for the day if you get Pizza & Help out!
$15 for the day
$10 for 4 hours or less
-$5 if you help Setup or Teardown. (Max. $5 back)

Again, please try to bring correct change with you.

That is all for now. Hope to see y'all out at the track again soon!

It was nice to have all the help with setup and tear down. I built a large portion of the 50cm track Saturday night. Dave H was here at 8:30am and quickly got started building the 30cm layout. We had Dave W, Ryan, Carlos and friend arrive at 9am. Dave brought all the clubs remaining 50 cm rcp. A discussion on track changes. It was a little after 10am and we were up and driving. I had a great time it has been a very stressful last two weeks. A pizza lunch, running my new batteries. The best performance aaa's i have ever used. They have the same characteristics to lipo's i use in my 10 scales. A fun and challenging track layout. I even got talked into a race at the end of the day. Tear down was a breeze. Again very happy with how things worked out. I know Derek had a concern over pit space, if there's a large club turnout. By moving the furniture from the metal room. I used a cart belonging to the clubhouse. I setup six 8' tables and chairs with room for a seventh table if needed. If attendance increases we have the unused area for tables by the pool table and the back storage room. The track area doesn't need to be reduced in size. Looking forward to planning the two day event with Ryan and Dave W. Ryan i do have a box of unused trophies in various sizes. I will double check condition and count, as they have been moved around several times since the 90's. They are from the families old indoor track and hobby store.

Hey guys, another great day of mini-z, me and my buddy Eddie had a blast. Really sorry for the crashes he caused, but for someone that never had touched a competition rc car... he did pretty well, to the point of coming back in January and start practicing with us. Thanks for the patience guys, we need more members and you all did amazing in getting the rookie some space to adapt, appreciated.

Thanks Grant for hosting again, I love the fact that we're starting to do this more often. I absolutely agree if you want to raise the prices of the daily fee, I'm the first one to support the idea of having a prize draw and some trophies, but again.... this only makes sense if we're racing..... (oh here he goes again...blablabla...) yeah dudes, let me be more explicit without being excluded from the forum :) MAN THE F UP! We're having so much fun doing this, we're doing some individual battles, did a few with Grant and a few with Dave H, proper 'racing' during training.....why dont we do this on the clock! It puts extra pressure on your heads, it makes it even more fun... adrenaline. I honestly don't care if you raced for 100 years and you're the best in the world, I only care about what we do in our little club for now, that's where I spend my time. I don't mind if you use a better car, if it has 5 wheels and 10 cells, but please....please don't sit out in a 5 minute race. I cannot believe that you don't have fun anymore doing some nice and tight racing, if the problem is rules....please dictate the rules, if the problem is winning.... I can sign a paper losing them all in advance I don't really care, but I need you guys to RACE! I'm dead serious! Let's draw some turns TOGETHER!

I spent 100 bucks to come to this meeting.... I did a single (maybe a couple) 5 minute race with Ryan, Dave H and Dave W, best 5 minutes of the day.

For the future... so simple...... free practice for 2h, 3 qualification rounds with 1h open track in the middle, final B with 4 drivers, best 2 bump up, final A with 4 drivers.... call it 5 minutes...call it 10.......call it 15.....call it an hour...or 12.

Do a podium, draw a prize.....pair of tires! Give some trophies...paper is fine! Take photos, smile... publish! Make a championship.... do this 4 times, counts the best 3. Award the BC Mini-Z Club Champion a bottle of wine, champagne.....Cola Cola! Let's have a yearly Xmas Dinner in a proper restaurant where you celebrate the fact that mini-z scene still alive and we honour all the effort we do to be part of it :)

I'm I dreaming too big? Just tell me to shut up if this is absolute nonsense, won't be ofended and I'll rest my case, and I'll show up once in a while to take the rust from the cars.

Keep preaching man :)

Sorry I missed this meet guys. Have had some family stuff come up that's making my life hell right now. Little brother left for rehab early last week and my folks took him up there so I've been left to look after the house, cat & dogs. To top it all off, my $*@! car died over the weekend so my transportation situation is back to "the bus."

UNG.

Anyways.

Carlos wants to see the club grow guys, and he wants to see us grow too! We take our "racing" pretty seriously for something that isn't even structured. To the point of someone needing to know if a gyro is cheating????? Go ahead and solicit input from the community but that only makes sense if we race in structured classes with written rules, and we're not????! I get the impression this is more about some people being bitter about more quick drivers on the track these days. Does it that not motivate you to improve though? Come on guys... lets act like grown-ups about this. Carlos has some amazing experience he is willing to share and has even offered to host a proper race and you guys are resisting that!? Yet getting upset about "unfair advantages?" It just does not add up unless you factor in the motives un-spoken. It doesn't speak well for the competitive individuals who talk smack about cheating and then back out of an offer to a fair fight.

I'm planning on being at the next meet. See ya'll there!

I actually tried the gyro this meeting, Ryan was kind enough to let me try his bullet car and I did it with and without gyro, definitely helps on putting up the power on the ground, helps on extremely hard braking, doesn't help in turning, we had to cut this steering effect to half of what it was in order to be able to turn the very tight turns. Overall I felt it definitely helps driving, so as Thomas said, we should make a rule for it as we should do a rule for everything else if we're planing to do something interesting.
I leave those rules to be written by you guys, the older members of the club, I'll respect whatever you decide.

In the past when I tried to get everyone in the club interested in racing the consensus was "we have c real racing in other scales we only show up when there isn't a 10th scale meet to fool around."

I gave up a while ago bothering to structure meets (or get Ryan to do so) because even if we could get a race together there are such loose interpretations of classes that no one wanted to change their cars to get some parity in the field. Even when someone calls their car "stock" because they have a kyosho motor yet has swapped fets that no longer is equal to other cars trying to race in Stock events.

As a prime example, my race meet held in Whistler I only asked 2 things of participant . I asked to get a stock motor car and mount 40s all round. During each break all I heard was moaning about no grip and sliding/spinning/etc. For a chance to win a $100 car body there was nothing but crying. It sure was fun before and after but I felt that my efforts to create some parity was met with some disfavor.

My main issue about asking the mini z community about gyros was mainly to decide to myself whether or not to continue to care about the sh...stuff you put on your mod cars. I honestly am so F-ING tired of the trash talk among members because some understand that it is friendly fun poking but others get all but hurt and don't take as lightly as is meant. I felt that an outside opinion was needed and since the answer I hot was "they mostly suck " I feel I can confidently ignore gyros going forward and avoid caring enough to banter about it. My goal in the future is to keep the but hurt to a min by keeping my mouth shut.

If it does get serious and we start structure racing then I want to see a set of rules to conform cars to or I won't bother attending. I may have tons invested but the fun I enjoy is bettering myself without getting spun-hit out of the way by cars too powerful to be considered equal.

As a first suggestion to improve parity is to allow me to buy 12 "enjoy battle" motors as a handout.

Let's start the discussion.....if we can get equal cars without dialling endpoints (because we all know that doesn't work) I'd be in. If not....I have no problem having a seat during heats.

Gladi8or
2016.11.11, 02:59 AM
Derek Sir, now you got my attention! I've proposed that a million times, let's do that! I've raced all my life in those terms, that's why I have 50 pn speedy05 motors at home from the dozens of locals, regionals and worlds... always the same motor, I'm with you, get the motors, test the motors, seal the motors and.... randomly people will pick one, no tricks, no cheat.
Fet's are no longer a deal since the new cars bring way powerful fets that dont even need to be changed to get a mod motor, so let them have fets, let them have whatever on the car, a gyro certainly with a slower motor will slow down the car, let people use whatever they have, it doesnt make any difference if you choose the right slow fun motor.
If you want to make it even more fair.... pick motor & batteries, whatever the car is ! That would make it extremely fun. I don't mind droping some bucks for a motor and some cheap packs.
My question is.... will the club members be interested in this? Many doubts... but I have hope.

The race you organized was by far the best I've participated in Vancouver, yeah the tires were ridiculous, no one was comfortable with that, yes I moaned but I was the first one to get my awd on the track to get that tiny grip on... and I tried hard to get a solution for that curved ball, I had to tear apart my cars to get a solution, that was a nice puzzle to be honest, nice challenge. Well done on the race direction and keeping the few public interested, I had a lovely time.

Let's do it!!!

Thanks Grant for hosting!
Awesome layout, credit to both Grant and Steve for the Saturday night setup. Track was open to run upon arrival.
Bummer I could only stay till noon - I'm sure I must have missed some great battles.

Great to see some who haven't been out for a while - keep on coming out!

Here's the track from another angle.

Agreed! That was one of the better layouts we've had in ages. Kudos to Grand and Steve for having a track ready for us on Sunday, that was a nice treat! Fast but technical and challenging. I loved the sweeper. Lets use that more often :)

Fortunately, you didn't. I don't recall doing an actual race all day actually?

Again, the topic of structuring races came up multiple times, but there is feirce resistance from a few select members. It seems we can't even have a conversation without some individuals shooting it down in flames as soon as it's mentioned. Grant, I know you kept citing the failures of other tracks in the area as reason why we shouldn't organize, but c'mon, really???? Lets give up before we even try???? Lets stop living in the past guys. It's failed before but that does not mean we cannot succeed, but we need to invest the effort to succeed, and people need to be willing to put the effort in even without the guarantee of a reward.

Also, and I really don't feel I should have to be saying this, but SOME OF YOU NEED TO LEARN TO LISTEN!!!!! Many of you are twice my age and still have ZERO concept of listening to someone while they're talking. Do you act like that on the job?!? Do you talk to your friends and family like that?!? You're so keep to open your own big yap that what is often said to you goes in one ear and right out the other. It's embarrassing guys. Good grief. If the only way you feel you can get your point across is using increased volume and repeating your point over and over again, give your head a shake. Learn to listen!!! Dialog is a two way street and frankly, some of you really suck at it.

My future of attending these meets is in question. Several people said that the club is the worst it's ever been and nobody is putting in the effort to improve it. We just "do laps" and after couple of meets we have a race and then someone gets their feelings hurt and the bickering and pissing matches start again and nothing changes. Again. Every single time. I'm not having fun anymore and I get the sense that the only people who are enjoying themselves care the least and are least likely to help the club improve. Turn-out is going to dwindle even more if we don't improve things. Before you know it, it's going to seem like too much effort to even set up the track.

I hope to see some improvement soon. 2017 is a new year. Lets put a bigger effort into being the best club we can be.

TeeSquared - I'm confused by several of your statements. Grant offered to run a race, mainly for yourself and Carlos. He went around and asked everyone if they were interested - I believe everyone said yes. Until he asked Carlos, who said not to bother because Grant wasn't going to be in the race. Now who has the bad attitude?

I have never put forth resistance towards any racing, organized or not. Over the years there are times I participate and times I don't. That is my choice and it is rather rude of anyone else to tell me there is something wrong with me if I don't want to race. This is exactly what yourself and Carlos have done repeatedly. So before passing judgement on anyone else please take a look in the mirror at your own behavior.

Further - I have gone so far as to organize a race and even secure a nice prize for the winner. We all know you won the race and the free transponder, yet afterwards felt the need to insult not only myself but the quality/accuracy of the lap counter. In the span of under a minute you ruined the entire event for myself and the owner of the company who donated the prize. So no more free stuff from us, 100% because of your behavior.

OK, with that said lets talk about racing a little more. In the past there have been several attempts at more organized racing, for whatever reason they all failed. However there was still racing, often with a "loose" stock class and mod class.
For there to be racing someone has to take ownership of it - Ryan often took that on and has put great effort into it. With his current job though he has missed many meets. Almost at the same time Dave W was also busy on Sunday's with his job. For quite some time we didn't even have a place run cars at all. Grant stepped up and offered the use of his clubhouse. This gave us all a place to play. Whoever provides the venue puts out a huge amount of time and energy(Dave W has gone so far above and beyond it is incredible).

So what I am saying is that for there to be racing someone has to organize it. If the turn out is bad or people don't want to build a car to match the classes or have no interest in racing etc you have to just suck it up and keep trying. There is no secret movement to prevent racing now and there never has been in the past.

Guys, let's work on moving forward, we all know each others opinions and different ideals of having fun, more competitive or less competitive, let's agree to disagree and think about the future. I want to carry on practicing this hobby wherever you guys are, I like Grant's place, I like Dave's as well, and certainly this is not a personal issue between members. Yeah we all talk too much, have good and bad days, we all done this sport for too long so we've seen this film already. Let's get over it, I can find a common ground somewhere for having less racing, let's make those single laps more competitive then, let's structure it like F1 qualifying or MotoGP qualifying, let's spice it up with some individual time trial moments also, on the clock, so the pressure kicks in. Certainly insist on getting those categories sorted, and even getting GT1 and GT2 so you can get faster drivers and slower drivers battling within the same kind of pace and still aim for a win. Derek can work on the motors, sure steve could choose the batteries, we can drop few bucks for the club to buy this control parts. Let's put them in a box, have a draw each meet and randomize the chance of getting the better motor. let's put some weight on the faster drivers based on the fastest laps of previous event like WTCC. Let's make it fun...

Carlos 'The Dreamer' :)

I feel this posting was way out of line. After this post i asked myself why am i even bothering hosting. It made me pretty mad. I continued to feel this way until last weekend. I would've canceled Sundays gtg but i had already paid for the room. I was ready to send you home upon your arrival. Yeah i felt this strongly about your post. I decided to talk to you about it and decided to let you stay. I also had a talk with Thomas about various things r/c related topics. I even went around and asked everyone if they would like to race including yourself. Everyone was on board that wished to do so. All you had to do was organize an equal class to run. You asked me if i was going to race and i said no. It is my choice to make, your reply was then i don't want to race then. I have been repeatedly told by you in our conversations. If i am not racing, i am not having any fun. This i can not believe. I am always having a great time. I came back to the house packed away the track and had dinner. I gave my friend Micky at Racing Devil a call. I asked him if they have been running any mini z on Saturdays. He told me no there's been nothing going on for almost two years. After this i went online and ordered some handout AAA batteries. I have a class of racing that myself and others would agree to race in. Then Monday i read a few nice postings. Thanks for hosting etc. Later on i read the Thomas post wow, how he's changed in the last few years. More politics more racing talk and so forth. Then it's getting ugly between Thomas, Steve and you Carlos. It just keeps going to the point where i have had enough of it. I first talked to Ryan. I had to make a tough decision, if i want to host again in Langley or not. The clubhouse is like my home when we are using it. I am responsible for everything that happens within it. The club is welcome to use my clubhouse anytime. For as long as they need a place to run. To Carlos and Thomas you are no longer welcome at my place. At this time, i need my personal space from both of you. Sorry.

Hi Grant, that is sad to hear, after all this effort to give some great ideas and helping the club to grow. First time I say that I want to seat out, after hearing a lot of teasing the whole day, the day I really don't want to be bothered and definitely not in the mood to organize something for the sake of pity, you take it personally. You seat out every single time and I've been always respectful, I ask, I try to bring you in, but never made fun of you and disrespected you like you did last time when I lost a tire and suddenly that's the reason for the races not to make sense. I don't understand, but I respect. It's your house, your rules.
I have no bad blood with you and Steve, I think you are nice chaps, it's always good fun to hear you guys, I only been with you guys a couple of times so I have nothing against you, I do feel though that the way you guys have fun, I don't.
All the previous events where we had some heats going on, I did have fun, had a blast, curiously, everybody tends to agree with that, some structure would be nice, we practice for a reason, to measure our skills against each other, for the fun of it, not to prove A or B is the best. Pure competitive fun, that's why amateur motorsport racing exists. But again, I might be preaching on the wrong church, definitely don't want to contribute for the mini-z scene to disappear. If I'm the problem at your place, if banning me will make you feel more comfortable, I will kindly and respectfully accept.
You guys should do whatever you feel like doing, I'll be joining again whenever you welcome me, at your place or any other place.
At some point I'll try to book an event at my house and do something different, to help the scene to grow and get some more members in downtown Vancouver for your club. Until then... it's a heartfelt goodbye but the feeling that at least the message was passed, you'll be moving forward. The fact you bought the batteries is a nice start and proves my point and at least I feel it was worth it. I know it's gonna change, just won't be around to see it.
Please read my post again, and take it with a pinch of salt, it's called sarcasm. True that you're not my friends for me to say Man the F up, but I've seen so many roasts happening during this meets, to the point of feeling uncomfortable that I felt the intimacy to play in the same league, for sure I failed, and for that I apologize. If out of my posts you can only extract hate, if you don't see anything positive and if you don't do your 'mea culpa' in this discussion, then I rest my case, as I said, I respectfully accept this ban Grant, sad but true.
Good luck guys, see you somewhere!

My turn. All I have to say is that I accept being banned too and I accept my responsibility for why I've been banned. I'm an outspoken unfiltered passionate individual and I know darn well I piss some of you off. I probably deserve this at least on some level.

I think the root of this problem though is that my conduct is perceived as unacceptable by a group of individuals who also have unacceptable conduct, except those three won't ever admit it. I retract that statement. Steve and Grant yes, but Derek will admit his faults when he's cooled down.

But I think that is what sets me apart...I do actually have the capacity to check myself and realize I'm partly at fault. Steve, Grant, I can't say I've ever expected the same from you. You two are so quick to jump down other peoples throats but unwilling to even consider if you might be part of the problem too. Derek at least has a handle on the fact that he pisses people off. You've given us permission to tell you to shut up but I've yet to take that liberty.

Steve, I've got a broken McLaren F1 body that you are at least 50% responsible for. I've never gotten an apology and I do believe your exact words after the incident was that I was "an idiot" for even suggesting you are partly to blame. You wouldn't even meet me halfway. Funny how when you get a body stepped on you stomp your feel and scream until you get it replaced, but when you smash my body during a practice session you decide that you get to be judge and jury and call me an idiot. It's too bad Ryan bought you a new body because you obviously didn't deserve it. If you're going to call me out for a bad attitude, you too need to be having a look in a mirror. That was most un-sportsman like conduct and had we been doing any kind of real racing at any kind of officially organized event, your behavior would also been unacceptable. I could have had a meltdown and gone home like you did but I'm a bigger person so I let it go and continued racing, even though you'd already ruined MY day by insulting me for an accident that was half your fault. It could have been defused by accepting half the blame. I was pulled off to the side and I was off the racing line, and I'd alerted others to my presence. I'm not sure what else I could have done but no, obviously I'm the idiot and you are 100% correct. If you get to say that "everything I have posted is 100% truthful, factual and is exactly what happened" than so do I, and factually you smashed into my stationary car off racing line and then blamed me for it. You also have a bad attitude.

It's insane that I've been called out for cheating when there are no rules to cheat. Derek says he's sick of trash talking but then asks if he should continue berating gyro users? (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=462077&postcount=14) Berating people is trash talking. (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/berate) I've had a target on the back of my head ever since I joined this club and I am pretty sure I'm going to get picked on and then blamed for complaining no matter what I do.
How can you guys dish out so much BS but then get so angry when you're called on it?

I've even had my looks made fun of by at least two different members. How low do you have to go? That's so far beyond acceptable but I've been the bigger person and let it slide. And you guys can't let a gyro go? You feel the need to bring up your body being stepped on every time you see Ryan? Sheesh! Let it go guys.

I think this parting of ways is probably best for all involved. This clubs culture is utterly toxic and I need a break. I implore Grant, Steve and Derek to carefully consider their own conduct before being so vocal about other peoples. I admit I'm half the problem, but will you guys?

Thomas,

I don't want these forum posts to go on forever but do respect your right to reply and give your opinion.

When Ryan stepped on my car I was pretty upset - brand new car, first set of batteries through it. Yep I was pretty angry. Pretty sure everyone knew I was upset too. There was no cursing though, I packed up my stuff and left. The chassis sustained a lot of damage. Most of it was parts I had planned to replace anyway(diffs, chassis, axles). Ryan offered to replace anything broken, in the end he replaced the body which I was 100% happy with.
You mentioned in your post that we were still going on about it. There is no secret that Ryan takes his fair share of abuse for that incident but there is absolutely no resentment or bitterness on my part. More then anything I look back and laugh about it. On the plus side Derek needed some McLaren parts when painting a body so the damaged one was donated to him.

I have no problem apologizing for calling you an idiot(although you called me words that we'd get banned for writing on this forum, but whatever).
I never want to hit or damage another car - and I certainly never want to damage my own. I still can't understand how it would even be 1% my fault for hitting your car. I don't know why your car was stopped on the outside of the straightaway, but that was the line I was using. If I know that someone is stopped on track I will always slow down or avoid them. Again I hate damaging my own car(especially my green bodies). If I am stopped on track and someone hits me I generally apologize for being stopped on track, and if I get hit for being stopped it is my own fault.

So there you have it, that is hopefully all I have to say.

I don't see how I get included in this discussion since I haven't seen anyone in 6 weeks but since I have been added to the list of offenders I have picked out some of the key parts of my wrongdoing to see if I can clear up the misunderstanding.

This is my last post from a thread on gyros. At this point from the end of October I had decided that it wasn't worth the effort to discuss the use of them because a non biased/impartial group of peers said they aren't worth using. From my standpoint this subject was closed.

Carlos,

This thread is an attempt to find out if I should continue berating gyro users or just let it be.

I'm honestly super tired of trash talking. I'd love to get everyone to build cars to a spec so we can really compete at a similar level but since we do not I wanted to find outside opinions about traction control.

I did not intend this to turn into a sort "shaming" but if users are taking it that way it kind of makes you wonder why gyro users feel that way if users think they are ok to use.

Outside opinion has pretty much said that they are a bit hokey and for certain tracks completely useless. To that end I've decided :

1. I will no longer berate users of gyros.
2. I will sit out mod class races until I have a usable mod class car. Getting bumped out of the way driving a lower powered car gets on my nerves....:)

Below was my position in this very thread from a month ago....again please note "My goal in the future is to keep the but hurt to a min by keeping my mouth shut"

[QUOTE]

I understand why you may feel greatly offended by my discussion Thomas but I also understand you aren't reading the entire picture and cherry picking the aspects of it that offend you.

If you read over that thread again ( and I suggest you do) I don't believe at any point I said you were cheating. I had hoped that my phrasing asking if gyros was a form of cheating to an impartial membership of fellow racers would be sufficient for you to realize I didn't know if I should be concerned about the situation or not....since the membership's opinion was I shouldn't bother I felt that was enough for me to let it go. Up until this rehash and explosion of venom I hadn't given another thought.

To that end, I finally hope you understand that I meant no ill will towards you at all. I don't dwell on these things and I had hoped you didn't either.

Now that I see that it did affect you negatively and you did dwell on it constantly for over a month I feel that I have to apologize to you. I did not think my intention was to single you out in any way.

That being said and with the knowledge that "I have given people liberty to tell me to shut up" and the fact you have my contact info you could have avoided feeling wronged by taking the opportunity to text or phone me to chat about your feelings. By letting it build to the point of spitting venom via forum is unhealthy. Being a bit older and having been where you are (next time remind me to tell you how I got the nickname "cowboy") I have learnt that holding on to the daily sh...stuff that pisses you off can be detrimental to your relationships. I've developed a "spit it out and let it go" mentality that as you've noticed pisses people off but they understand and accept it from me.

I can't comment on what happened at the latest meets but I will say every one in this club does snip and barb at each other and no one is holier than thou. The point of it all is to have good natured jibs at the club to "spit it out and let it go". I don't know if anyone else lets it go but I know I do. I would hope that things said to each other are meant in good natured ribbing and if anyone feels otherwise maybe they should take an opportunity to assess what kind of person they are....I've said this before (even in the quoted thread above " some understand that it is friendly fun poking but others get all but hurt and don't take as lightly as is meant" and I hope people had understood that I've never meant any harsh words ever. If they had felt I meant it then I apologize to those offended.

I do hope to see you at Dave's meets in the future but knowing his schedule and responsibilities it may not be for a long while we have another meet in Newton. I hope that the time off will give you the opportunity to figure out a method similar to my approach of letting things go for dwelling on stupid stuff needlessly is a sure fire way to lose relationships in the long term.

That was all actually....pretty reasonable. On both Derek and Steve's part. Bravo.

Okay fair enough, you are right about me spitting venom. Even Carlos has said to me it's obvious I've got a lot of pent up frustration about Mini-Z meets and I guess I needed to vent it. I've been pondering how to do so for two weeks and I've written and erased dozens of far more venomous posts that in retrospect I'm glad I had the foresight to delete before posting. I'll ask you about your nickname the next time I see you.

You've got to be so careful with "trash talking." It never works out well when the person saying things also takes it upon themselves to decide if someones response is reasonable or not. Again, the judge and jury thing. If it's obvious that someone is upset by your ribbing, even if you are sure your intent isn't to antagonize, it might be a good idea to stop anyways.

I think here is a good place to leave it be, for now. Maybe we can reconcile in the future and enjoy some good laps another day.

Good luck to your club,
-Thomas

Quick vote:

Mini-Z GTG on the 11th in Newton or the 18th in Langley.

I'm stuck working on the 11th, but work is typically slow enough to be able to still attend a GTG. I think I can make the 11th work as Dave W. may be putting on a family dinner on the 18th. You're all like family, right!? ;)

Whom else is able to attend either day so we can try to get it finalized & booked...

Once again I have created a new thread for the 2017 Season & *ARCHIVED* (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37986) all the older ones together.

As per normal, this thread will be for both General Chit Chat & our GTG Announcements.

Be sure to subscribe to this thread so you get a notification when there is an update!
Click on "Thread Tools" above, and choose "Subscribe to this Thread".

We will be taking one last concerted stab at re-introducing class races this year. This will be a push to see if we can get like minded individuals & cars together on the track for structured racing GTG's. Currently these more "Structured Races" will only be happening every 3rd or 4th GTG. We will not be running them strictly. We will mostly keep to our "Run What Ya Brung" open lap runs with some fun races thrown in here & there like we have typically done. We will be sure to send out specific GTG notifications about these runs in advance that way, those that do not wish to participate in the more structured races, can skip them. Rules/Regulations/Specs will all be worked out over the first few "Structured Race" GTG's. Currently, we will be running the "Structured Race" GTG's at our Newton location. Most other GTG's will be at our bigger track layout in Langley.

http://www.doggidy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Warning.png

The following will be the Clubs new Fee structure as of January 1st 2017

Due to Inflation/Rising Costs in Common Room Rental & Equipment to run our GTG's, the club has updated it's fee structure.
Attendance is also down & the club needs to recoup for that. Please spread the word to your friends about us!!!
Please be sure to let any and all of your friends know about the club & if you have any ideas on how we can grow our membership, please let us know!

A TREMENDOUS thanks goes out to Grant "The G" for providing us with such an awesomely huge space to run & for his time in Setting Up/Tearing Down/Storing & Generally Organizing our Langley GTG's!

Grant's Common room is more expensive than the Common Room in Newton. With that & the fact that we want to continue to run at Grant's and make it as easy as possible for setup & tear down, both the club & Grant will be purchasing some more 50cm track. We also would like to start trying to get some random prizes together here and there so the extra income will also help with that. If you know of somewhere that is selling used 50cm, please let us know!

The new fee structure is as follows & is still less than $20 for the day if you get Pizza & Help out!
$15 for the day
$10 for 4 hours or less
$5 for Pizza
-$5 if you help Setup or Teardown. (Max. $5 back)

Again, please try to bring correct change with you.

We hope to see y'all out at the track SOON!

It was a good turn out & a great day of running! I don't think I've put that amount of driving time or mileage into my cars in a LONG time! Thank you everyone for coming out. Hurray for a Pizza Hut opening closer then Fresh Slice & being very comparable on pricing!

I big shout out goes to Derek (cowboysir) for bringing down some of his 50cm quick inside turns, they sure helped add some flow to the mix! The layout was somewhat similar to last time but with even more RCP down on the ground. I was having so much fun I totally neglected to take a pic of the track, did anyone else?

I won't be out to the GTG in 2 weeks, but I will be at the one in Newton in 4 weeks from now! It's right after I get back from Las Vegas where my wife, some friends & I will be celebrating ten long hard years of marriage! =)

See ya all soon out at the track, cheers!

I do recall an F1 circling the track rather slowly though, it needs some improvement.

Had a blast racing and discussing rules yesterday gents, its good to be back! Two of my three cars were working very well. My VE car was inconsistent but shows great promise. My "Pro Stock" US-Spec car was averaging around 9.2x, with a best of 9.02, and the VE car was averaging more like 10.5, but I had a few laps in the 8.8x range and one blistering 8.81 lap. More development is needed though, clearly. Looking forward to the next meet!

Let's shoot for a race event next gtg!

I would like to know everyone else's thoughts on when the next Racing League GTG should be. I had thought of spacing them out & only holding them like every 3 or so events.

I'm also going to be busier over the next few months as it's OCR race season for me. I'll try to set the Racing League GTG's around that.

Epic indeed, you set the bar pretty high, never before has someone so slow hacked so much... :)

It was a great day though, the track looked so simple yet was tough to get just right. Mod cars didn't have a huge advantage.

The G

It was a great day thanks to everyone that came out. My budget built cart for the 50cm track made transporting and storing much easier in my shed. The new more technical track layout, Ryan and i came up with made for some great on track battles. I never drove a Mod car all day. I had the most fun running my Abarth 90mm Kyosho brushed high motor chassis car all day. Other than a carbon T plate, oil shock, Kyosho stock ball diff and bearings it is the cheapest and most stock car i own. Derek if you want, i would be up for starting a 90mm racing class in Langley. I have purchased Five sets of Turnigy handout batteries to keep this a budget oriented class. Let me know if there's any interest. Personally i am not interested in any other racing classes. I can book my clubhouse for Sunday, April 23rd if we want it. I forgot to mention it was nice to be graced, by the legend Trackmate Dan.

Are we enforcing the HM standard for this class? Or can 90mm be any mounting type? I bought like 2 of the 90mm MM motorpods is why I ask.

Currently my Stock chassis is my 90mm MM & I like it that way it is. So if we are looking to enforce HM, I may just have to get myself a new stock chassis. =)

I asked this at the last Langley session but didn't get a firm answer. I plan on building one to conform as I think the idea is to have parity.

90mm narrow f/r
hm mount
stock fets
stock motor
handout batteries (from grant)

I am almost certain that was the extent of Grants wishes for racing this class...I think it'll be a challenge (beyond my ability atm) to be competitive but I relish the opportunity to have equal cars on track.

I think Derek mostly nailed it with his rules - I would add that the stock motor should be a Kyosho stock - no PN stuff that is way faster. The only other question is it any "high body" or Abarth only?

if i recall, there are only 5 HM bodies to choose from, VW, Vitz, Fit, Cooper and 500.
