I can't help but wonder how much quieter it must be when I'm not there, sheesh I'm loud.
I may have a new lap counting controller that needs some testing. Hoping you guys can help us out. More details coming soon.
yep...the banter between you and mario scares me into mistakes (I like that excuse the best)
Looking forward to the new controller!

We have potentially laid down the dates for our next three club GTG's.
We are looking to setup in Langley (211 & 88th) on April 22nd.
Then back in Newton on May 6th & again on the 27th.
We are currently waiting to hear back if the Newton location would be willing to host us in their RV parking lot area, therefor we can run outdoors and have a nice open layout.
Keep an eye out on the forums for more info to come soon!

Track setup is @ 9am, Racing by 10-11am & break down for around 4-5pm.
This weeks layout will be determined at the time of setup.
I have a base to go by but we are going to try & use my adapters so we can run both 30 & 50cm track.
Most people are showing up closer to 11 or 12, come out earlier if you can to help setup or at least start running!
A small request, please try to bring the correct amount of $$ with you.
This room is larger so our layout will also be larger.
Unfortunately with the larger room comes a bit higher entry fee.
This GTG will be $10

did you break the 9 sec barrier with foams?
Thanks again for the advice on setup for the next time around....

2012.04.23, 04:03 AM
I did a 9.97 with the AWD, it really should have been capable of more but it really didn't like the bumps in the track.
The MR03 on foams did a 9.50, 9.60 or 9.70, I don't recall which one.
I know it felt pretty decent but could have been tuned to the track a little more - messing with it though is a little tough considering how nicely it runs on my home track. My driving was also off today, just not at peak performance, I am sure I missed out on a 10th of a second.

I didn't know you didn't have spare mr03 fronts, I could have given you something to use. The AWD you should have just kept driving - it wasn't super easy to drive but everything needed to break in, especially the diffs

Cant wait to try out my new AWD. Does anyone have a 94mm gear set they could lend me? Mine only came in one short gear setting and I'd like to try out my skyline body (my gear set's in the mail)

now thats what I'm talking about:
Steve's help got my car into consistent 11xx sec, felt like I had 2 cars that were extremely well behaved (until one board went "phhttt") and very happy with my finishes in the race events. Now if only I could reach that next level without having to cheat (ie use foams):p
Looking forward to the next event where we'll hopefully all revert to box stock motors and rubber tires for some closer racing.
Again....awesome day.;)

Hey FocusOne,
I've addressed your Chat thread question...
I liked the two separate threads the we used on CRC as it helped make sure the dates didn't get buried in the chat so thanx for the reminder!
I've now made two sticky Threads.
The Closed one will be any and all announcements, the other is fer chatting about what ever. :)

Hey all.
It's still a work in progress, but at least it's something for now!
You can visit our website to view the practice & race results here:
www.BCMini-ZClub.com/Race_Results (http://www.BCMini-ZClub.com/Race_Results)
Once I get a layout I like put together I'll be sure to save out all our older races that we have on file & make the Results page a little easier to navigate.
Enjoy!
*EDIT - It has come to my attention that there are some issues with the way the time layouts are on the race output.
It seems the top section is bang on, but the bottom section is a bit messed up in some places.
The Author of the software is now aware of this issue & will look into it.
Anyone that knows HTML & has some time is more than happy to look into the issue as well.
Poke me if your interested.

It's being organized by DaveW at the Newton location on the 24th of June.
By now if you haven't already been to one I'd suggest you look back through the previous announcements to find the map, entry code and fees/pizza contribution if you are interested in joining us for the event.

Félicitations, Mr. RFick73!
I should be able to make this one, finally. I'm not sure if I will be early enough to help set up since I'll be out later on Saturday doing some 1:10 drift. I'll try to be on time!
Too many changes to my AWD since I was last on RCP - stock gear diffs, Kyosho tires (finally), rear toe-in, stock springs, super stock motor. I have no idea how it's going to handle, and being out of practice isn't going to help much either...
Also... does anybody want a Tamiya M-05? Just $60 for a roller, for you guys! Can be made Traxxas 2.4GHz RTR or Spektrum DSM1/2 BND for a bit more money if you don't have the necessary parts handy.

Anyways, I'm interested in the M-05, but how much for the extra 2.4GHz gear? does it come with a body?

Friday nights? I didn't know about that. RRR races in Richmond on Sundays. I've been meaning to join but haven't had a chance to go yet. Had my (other) M-05 all ready for weeks by now.

I should be able to make this next one.
I think my neighbour wants me to get his boy off the Xbox or something too, so I may bring him along. Will there be an extra transponder available that I can borrow? My cars can take either battery terminal spades or ICS connector.

I'm not an F1, as you know, but I'd go for some non-competitive laps with you.
Follow each other and see how it handles.

Thanks for hosting, Mark! Sorry I had to leave early to get Donovan home in time for a lesson. At least I did a little bit to vacuum at the start!
I'm happy that I'm finally starting to drive a bit more consistently with the AWD. Maybe after just a little more time I can begin working on my awareness of other nearby cars so I can start avoiding collisions instead of causing them :p I am getting pretty good at turning DaveW around 180, I don't know if the rest of you want me to keep doing that...

Thanks Mark! That was a blast!
What a difference playing outside. The sun/heat was certainly a factor, changing the track completely. I couldn't get the grip I'm used to. Changed tires (twice) and T plate and life became better. That was sweet.
Thanks again.

Thanks to Mark for hosting....definitely a challenging layout with classic "bumpy" sections to add realism.
Everybody better get stoked for a BTE in late August. One in Newton and then the high speeds will be back in Whistler.

Next newton race is on the 12th.
Next Whistler race is on the 26th.
I'm super pleased with the start ofmy F1 project so I hope I can convince others to get one so we can have a field of racing that focuses on super clean racing to avoid damage...maybe by racing extra clean it'll help create more forward and rearward awareness that we can start adding blue flag passing of backmarkers to our Gtg's.

I wanted to use the larger area of Dave's to see what we could do with our cars.
The layout will be rather fast with a smaller technical area in the bottom left.
It's basically 31' x 44'
I MAY be able to swap some of the right hand straightaway for 50cm tile which would allow us to make the rest a bit larger and or add a few more turns into it.
What do y'all think?

I think a good race track is defined by its turns. I'd rather see a nice technical track indoors then a wide open track outside. That said its also nice to have variety and if others like it then go with it.

2012.08.06, 03:20 PM
I will keep both of your opinions in mind, if I get a chance, I'll put something maybe somewhere in the middle together.
Some of the group is unable to make it out to Whistler to run the faster setups and the area outdoors @ Dave's is HUGE!
So, I'm at a bit of a bind, we just simply need more track!
I do have the 90-->100cm adapters.
Anyone want to bring some 50CM track to add to the mix?
I'll do my best to make everyone happy.

Everybody pay for my gas and I'll load the truck with my track. I could get there early enough to set a track if there's enough interest but I'm looking at $60 in gas at the very least.
Ask around...I'll do it if there's big interest.

There's also the possibility of throwing in as much as possible in the car and we can do a combo 100/90/60cm track with both of our tracks.
I can hang out until 5 just as long as:
1. We get interest for that size of track
2. My wife doesn't come with me.

Just catching up after a week with the trialer, the campfire and NO COMPUTERS. :)
I'm gonna vote for Derek's proposal to cram as much as he can in the car, use Ryan's adapters, and combine it with the track we have here.
I like the fast layout that Ryan put forward, but I also like to be challenged with the technical stuff.
I'm sure we (Ryan) can put a good layout together. ;)
Having said that. Don't tell Sarah that I voted for her to stay home, cause I don't what to miss out on the ribfest on the 26th. :D

We have the clubhouse so everythings the same, tables/chairs etc.
The big difference, of course, the track will be outside, as long as Ryan's "Mr Sun" co-operates.
It's supposed to be warm so we'll pit in the clubhouse as there is limited shade in the track area.
Talking about shade.
The sunshade I used at Marks gtg will be used for the timing area, so if anyone has a sunshade bring it along and I'd be appreciated.

I just bought a Quick Setup Ozark Trail 9x9 Sun Shade @ Wal-Mart for $54 bux.
I have two others, but I just don't think they will work well for our application as they are more sun/bug tents and have material in the corners that may obstruct ones view.
So, I'll be bringing my new Sunshade with. =)
I will most likely be setting up my pit area in the clubhouse.
Oh my, I just realized I hadn't sent out a single E-Mail or nothing yet!
I'll be sure to get that out ASAP!

cowboysir
2012.08.15, 04:23 PM
Unfortunately I don't have a KT-18 that works with my mr02 (it has an mr03 board which requires a tx that can modify the steering percentages).
I have one of 2 options for you:
MR03 w/kt18
MR02 w module so you can get TheSteve to help you mod the controller so you can use asf as well as your other scales.
Interested?
FocusOne
2012.08.15, 04:29 PM
Cowboy, what do you mean by steering percentages?
Are you referring to the ability to increase/decrease the steering range on either left or right side of the car?
If so, the KT-18 can adjust that, I had that problem before.
cowboysir
2012.08.15, 08:03 PM
Yes and no...
The kt18 can adjust throw but because I've put an MR03 board (which is used to a servo ratio that has 4 gears to reduce down movement ) into an MR02 (which only has three gears to reduce the motor movement) you cannot get enough steering range with a KT18 in this board/chassis combo.
Hence the need for a programmable TX to fine tune the ratios.
FocusOne
2012.08.15, 08:23 PM
What's the difference between throw and steering range?
well, I know you can adjust the steering end-points from the KT18 so you can get full lock, I had that problem w/ my AWD when installing an unknown board in it. I thought it was a gearing/pot issue but I solved it after reading the KT-18 manual

Tried many magnet experiments back in my xmod days...found a benifit from neo magnets in a can but not much extra benifit from neo outside a can with neo already installed. It actually (on some faster motors) slowed the top part of the rpm range.

Well, seeing as I'm most likely unable to come out & race on Sundays for the next few months, I've decided to shake things up a bit with my cars.
I MAY end up regretting it, but hey, I can always fine tune or change back.
I've decided to change my Stock 98mm Diablo into a 90mm configuration.
Once XModCanuck is finished with painting the body I gave him I'll start running it.
I'm also planning on changing up my Mod car as well.
The FET's & Chili are just WAY too fast. Even for our wide open Whistler layouts.
I plan on sourcing out a motor that's just above stock (Anyone have suggestions and a motor?) & swapping it out to my 98mm Diablo Body.
I've got a new 90mm white Porsche GT1 body that I plan on getting painted up & putting on my AWD car as I've bought a few parts to hopefully make it run well.
The Club car will also be getting a body change.
I'm gunna ditch the Mercedes Flying Wedge and put on the 98mm Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV.
Currently my workbench is a mess as I've got my Stock, Mod & AWD all on it in different states of torn downness.
Wish me luck!

Can you tell I'm not too too worried about scale?
I just want a good wide body to use.
*IF* I end up liking the 90mm AWD & it works well, maybe we could talk about getting me a better body that actually suits the AWD style better.
I know NOTHING about cars, so to me, it doesn't really matter.

All I currently have as far as I am aware is a Stock & a Chili, so ANYTHING else that it just a bit better would be nice.
The board is FET'd so almost any motor would be fine to use.

Life had gotten the better of me this time & I didn't get around to posting it, I did however send out an E-Mail & TXT blast.
I'll be looking at booking off our next GTG so I can get out as I've made some serious changes to my whole Mini-Z fleet & I'm looking forward to seeing how the changes came out.
Dave W. mentioned he was thinking of booking the next proposed GTG date for Sunday, Nov. 11th. (Remembrance Day)
I'm unable to book that day off, and I'm wondering how many people would be able to make it out that day...
I should be able to book off Sunday, Nov. 18th.
What date is the general consensus? Let us know ASAP so we can make provisions.

Reposting this from the BC Mini-Z Club F******k Group page.
This is just a head's up for the group...
GTG pricing for the new year will most likely be rising from $5 to $10 for all day & a reduced late entry fee of $5 will be introduced. (Most likely for after 1 or 2pm)
Rising costs of living, hall/room rentals, new track & shared equipment for the club etc. have prompted this change.
I will do my best to make sure that all local GTG's are included in on this pricing including the few more expensive room rental sites that we occasionally visit.
Pizza, if everyone still wishes to pitch in the $5 will still continue to be available.
I like ordering in pizza as it allows mostly everyone to stay at the location & continue to race rather than run off & buy lunch elsewhere, and it's cheap!
The day is still less that $20 to run, heck, it leaves ya $5 change even! =)
Comments & Questions are always welcome.

I'm probably out until next year due to moving but had a great time yesterday - there were a ton of good battles on the track.
I can't help but wonder how much quieter it must be when I'm not there, sheesh I'm loud.
I may have a new lap counting controller that needs some testing. Hoping you guys can help us out. More details coming soon.

Sorry I couldn't make the last meet, busy with some medical stuff and will continue to be for a while.

Don't know if we've decided if its the 11th or 18th.
The 11th is Remembrance Day and Ryan is unlikely to get that day booked off work.
On another note, I was wondering a little more about a BTE in Langley. Marty mentioned his track (2 L's) and I thought if there was enough interest I could fill the car again...
There wasn't many at the last Langley gtg so I was wondering if we didn't advertise it enough or was everyone thinking that Surrey/newton is as far as they want to drive...

Thanks to all who came out Sunday. It was awesome.
Nice to have a larger turnout, more cars on the track means more fun. :)
Just a quick update with what info I can add.
Talked to Marty at the last GTG and he isn't going to be able to host an event until next year. Something about a cruise ship and checking out the weather in the Carribean for an extended period of time (insert jealousy here).
We had talked about either the 11th or the 18th and decided on the 11th so we didn't have to wait a whole month between GTG's. It has since been brought to my attention that Ryan has secured the 18th off so that's now the official date. I'm sure Ryan will provide the postings. (might even put one here. hee hee) ;)
The person in charge of taking reservations for the clubhouse just got back from a week away and now we're playing phone tag. She did state in a voice mail that there are no reservations for November so I can say with 99% certainty we are good for the 18th. Aiming to confirm tomorrow.
Sorry I didn't post earlier. I was away for a few days due to an unforeseen incident.
Therefore some of this might be old news but I'm playing catchup on a partially scrambled thread, so there ya go!

Honestly, not sure I agree with this philosophy. Room rental is the same and I don't feel the club really needs to purchase more track as it seems we seem to have more than enough track for 9/10 events. So where is the need for doubling the entry fee?

Totally agree with Dave.
Well, I'd like to possibly start renting the larger room in Langley or Guildford again more often.
I though if we do that, rather than the fee bouncing around, that if it was at the same rate all year, it may make it easier for everyone, and with the times that we rent the cheaper room, the $ collected can go into the purchases the club has made.
We have already purchased the new track pieces that people have requested. IE: More Expansion Pieces & more quick inside corners. With that, the purchase of the projector, transponders etc, & the fact that attendance was down over the summer (I left most days with $5-15 in my pocket to go towards the club account) & I honestly don't have the money to carry the purchases myself & having to constantly ask Dave W. to co-purchase the items is a tough request, I thought it might be time that we start collecting a smaller amount to put back into those purchases.
Perhaps with Winter here, attendance will be back up, I hear the last GTG was quite large.
I realize the cost I proposed is double, & that sounds like a big jump, but going from $5 to $10 isn't that much in the end.
I thought also allowing for a discount to those that come out late that we currently don't have was also a nice idea.
My suggestion isn't set in stone, it's just an option, we'll chat with the group over the next few GTG's and see what we can all come up with.
Do you have your own suggestions xmodcanuck or Teamcsimon?
cowboysir
2012.11.04, 07:18 PM
heres how i see things(interspersed with a few questions):
1.In the wintertime when other scale action is at a minimum, we get a good collection of people at the GTG's. The last event was a standard fall/winter event with 12 guys.
2. The room we use in Newton seems to be at maximum capacity for track size and allow some standing area for the racers.
3. We rarely have our GTG's in Langley (why IDK its a huge area and would make for a bigger track layout)
4. We seem to have enough extra cars, transmitters and transponders to loan out.
questions:
a. How much is the room rental and if we stay at the $5 rate until the summer will cost be covered with at least 8 guys (average out of thin air)showing up?
b. Are you and Dave out of pocket as it stands for extra track purchases?
c. What exactly is the club saving fees for once the room is paid? Is it a fund to cover shortfalls on slow GTG's and to purchase extra track pieces and other possible essentials?
I personally don't care about whether it's $5 or $10 since I'm already blowing $30 ish in gas another $5 doesn't really factor. I would suggest that:
-If the room rental for Newton is increasing we apportion a fair value to everyone's entry based on that increase.
-We keep Ryan's idea of $5 half day rate
-we should impose a rental rate for transponders and/or cars for drop-in use with the fees going to the club.
-If a gathering for Langley is planned (and since the room rate is higher) we assess a fair value per person for entry.
-If there is a plan for additional pieces (or items like sunshades for summer, etc) then we discuss a special levy/assessed payment to the club and ask for donations. I've got no problem throwing in for items like that to aid the club and i feel that most others would tend to agree.
any other thoughts?

I don't really care if the price is $5 or $10, there are worse ways to spend $10 for a full day's entertainment, surely :)
Do what you gotta do, gentlemen! You have my support.
Teamcsimon
2012.11.04, 09:14 PM
I'm not really concerned about the fees from $5 or $10 instead just what Dave said whether the club really needs to keep purchasing more track as it seems we have more than enough track for 9/10 events.
TheSteve
2012.11.04, 09:43 PM
If the expenses are there then you should raise rates, if they aren't then keep them as they are. The guys running the event should never be out of pocket, that should really be rule number one.
Are there that many guys borrowing transponders? There should always be a cost to borrow them as they really are cheap enough if you show up more then twice buying one is pretty reasonable. If the club did want to resell a few to people I can see what I can do pricing wise so the club can make something reselling them to members - every little bit helps.
RFick73
2012.11.10, 10:48 AM
There are really no major re-occurring expenses.
I would like to see us rent a large hall or similar location once a year or so, they run anywhere from $150-300+. (Anyone know a cheap hall or location we can rent that has a LOT of uninterrupted floor space?)
I'll be honest, I haven't kept track of things as well as I would like to have in regards to purchases for the club.
There have been things I bought without a request from the masses, such as the projector, additional track pieces & transponders, but that I thought would add to the experience.
Perhaps for all future purchases I could bring them to the club here on the forums or at our GTG's and get feedback first.
Dave W & I did just buy another expansion set, but it was because we knew we could use a few extra straights & expansion pieces. Mainly to replace the pieces that are thinner than the rest & we would like to fabricate a few new pieces for the track to throw into the mix.
We also purchased two of the quick inside sets as people seem to like having those to shave off some time in the corners etc.
Both of those purchases were totally out of pocket.
I honestly don't mind it as I enjoy racing with you all, and anything that can add to that is something I don't mind doing as I know mostly, it will get paid back eventually over time etc, but with the addition of my daughter to my family & my wife on mat leave, the extra expenses are a bit tougher.
Attendance was down over the summer, which is to be expected as people have families to spend time with & are able to run their outdoor cars etc.
The winter should bring in a few of the faces that haven't been out as often.
That should mean our GTG's bring a bit of a profit above & beyond expenses to help pay off the additional out of pocket expenses.
I'd like to get out to Langley or Guildford (Forrest Manor not the mall) more often as those rooms are a bit bigger. Maybe once every other month or like every 3rd or 4th GTG?
With the changes at work, now that I may be working Sundays for a while, hopefully that will change after the quarter is over @ the end of December, it's tougher for me to make it out.
I love still being able to setup the GTG's for all of you to go out & enjoy.
I've booked off the upcoming Sunday so I can join in, hopefully my schedule will change and allow me to come back full time. I miss you all! :o
The room @ Dave's is almost getting filled to capacity now, which is nice.
In order to run in Langley or Surrey more often we will need to get the track to & from Dave W's.
His truck isn't working very well right now so we will need to work on something else. And honestly, he shouldn't have to brunt the full responsibility each time.
I was even thinking of renting a U-Haul Van for the day for those GTG's, it's not a huge expense, but between that & the additional room rental, the cost does go up a bit.
I was hoping rather than making one GTG be $5 here, the next being $10 or so, make all the GTG's the same @$10.
But also introduce the, if you come out early or stay late to help setup or just show up later discount, this might entice more people to come help or at least bring in a bit more $ to go towards the additional costs of running somewhere other than in Newton.
That was the main reason I was thinking of making changes to the GTG fee's.
Feel free to reply here, or come on out to our GTG next weekend & voice your opinion.

#1

or #4

I'd choose the second layout (labelled #4).
gctkaz
2012.11.13, 02:32 AM
Agreed, in the first layout I would expect massive carnage off the line leading right into skinny twisties. Although I suppose that could encourage more cautious driving, and I'm sure I'm the one most responsible for any carnage anyway ;)
Otherwise, both seem quite technical which should be a good experience for something different.
Forecast for next Sunday at the moment calls for rain which may affect my transportation and whether I feel like coming out...

Seeing as we have a choice, I'd also prefer #4. Seems it would be better layout if we have a good sized turnout again.
Glad to see you incorporated the new 45' (and only used 2 as that's all I've made so far!) :D
As far as the fees go, it's not just about "buying more track". (Even though we just "bought more track") :)
If we have a little "money in the bank", then extras, like the shade cover etc, wouldn't be noticed when they come up (and rfick wouldn't have to finance it). They'd just be there for all to enjoy.
Post it up or lets talk about it Sunday.

I'm going to try my best to make the Dec.9th meet, but Dec.30 is out for sure.
Might bring in a buddy if he manages to keep the day off, will there be a club car/radio/transponder available? I will have my MR-015 and KT-18 anyway but AFAIK the club radios are EX-10 and the cars are hopped up MR-03?
BTW I recall hearing talk of some of you guys shrinking down to 90mm, and others going to narrow bodies. What good bodies have you found?
For the last few meets I've been using the '93 Celica GT-Four on my MA-010 and MR-015, cowboysir started me on it with an ASC on one of his big sales a way back and I picked up two more unpainted ones to use as my main racing bodies. It's a 90mm, 2.5N/0W which seems to work pretty well for my AWD. Still kind of flippity on my 015 but in both cases much more stable than my beloved S15. I might go back to S15 on my AWD for the next meet though, it has been too long since it saw any action.
Also, any interest in running the HPI RS32-01 on a tighter track? It looks pretty slow and people on this board don't seem to like it much compared to the Z, but it's pretty cheap and might be another option for competitive 'clean' driving on an even handicap.

Thanks to all who came out to make this possible.

I couldn't make it today. Was working on the new place - I have now have a permanent indoor track. Its currently 50cm tiles, suppose I could try 30cm to have a tighter/more complex track.

I'll be closing the 2012 Chat thread within the next few weeks so be sure to migrate the chat over to this thread.
The reason I break it out each year is to make sure the thread doesn't get out of control size wise & makes it easier to search.
Here's to an awesome 2013 Season!

Oh, also, those longer races may have killed my batteries but were fun for sure!
I also think the Relay race we ran worked out quite well!
I hope to see more races like that to spice up our GTG's.
Have you got an idea for a new race style?
Feel free to contact me to talk about it! :)

Wondering what to expect in the 2013 Season!?!
Well, 1st off...
The club is adopting a new GTG Fee schedule.
There will now be an updated $10 GTG Entry Fee as of Jan 1st.
Don't fret! This will only really effect those that show up late & leave early.
There will be a $5 rebate for those that come out between 9-10am to help setup the track & or those that stick around till the end of the day to help break down the track. (*Sorry, the rebate is not cumulative)
Thanx to Dave finding a newer Pizza Joint that I think everyone loved, the Pizza pitch-in will be staying @ $5.
So, show up early or stay late to help out & your day's total will still only be $10 for a tonne of fun racing all day & some pizza in your belly!
I am hoping the club will be able to start collecting enough from the GTG's to help pay off any previous or newer out of pocket items the Club may need to purchase & also start saving for a few larger venues throughout the year.
(Donations to the club are ALWAYS welcome! :D)
I'd like to see two larger race days per year happen if possible.
Something that only allows for a small amount of practice, has classes etc & is geared more towards cleaner racing & tries to group people on the same level together to get some good clean fun racing in.
I'm always looking for feedback on this sort of stuff, so if you think you can help me organize something that would be fun for everyone, please contact me!
The updated amount can also help pay for a U-Haul rental if needed to get the track to & from Langley or the other venues.
(Think you can help transport the track & have lots of space in your vehicle? Contact me!)
So, in review for the 2013 Season
1) Updated $10 GTG Fee Schedule
2) The distinct possibility of running in a larger venue more often
3) Having a few dedicated actual race days! (maybe even a few prizes?)
I hope to see you all out & the track!

We should start to schedule times for catagory races:
1.Now that 5 or 6 of us have F1's we should make time for specific running of them.
2. I still want a specific race event (1 or 2 during the day) where we fit in a "stock" class with motor limits and rubber tire only. It makes me a little perturbed when super fast cars with extra grip lap the shizen out of the field. Race results would be somewhat closer for everyone (and it would cut down on breakages from rear ending others)

Fun layout and pretty good racing yesterday! Happy to report I avoided getting smoked off the start in my final heat and actually fought for second all the way through 7 minutes.
Missed 2nd by 3/10th.
Looking forward to the Feb 10th track at Marty's...if the weather works out I'm going to bring down some track so we can get a big 100cm width section.

Man, it sucks that I keep missing these! My 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the months are now busy till 3 (plus 40 drive to Newton).
Last month I've successfully mounted the Xmods Subaru and R8 (repainted copper) body on my AWD and have been dying to try them out on the track (as well as test out some offset rims from Dave)
I'll see, maybe I'll drive down for a few laps someday...

Simon doesn't like the overpass, and I was not at the previous meet so I didn't know it was used recently.
That was a fun day, I got to run my new MR-03 for the first time. I had no idea the flat battery layout vs stacked in MR-015 plus MM layout would make such an huge difference in stability and handling. Too bad my wheel axle came off the knuckle early in my good heat. I was in the lead too!
Going to try it on a narrow body for the next meet.

Simon doesn't like the overpass, and I was not at the previous meet so I didn't know it was used recently.
The overpass has it's own set of pro's and cons.
It provides another challenge as you do disappear for a second, but I also think it's fun when you can get "air time" going over it.
We try to design layouts so that there are no corners just prior to or right after when going under, so that a straight run through should be successful.
Now if you do get sideways when you're underneath/out of sight it does get "interesting".
I think most of us have "been there/done that".
We're going to add some lighting underneath and see if that helps out. The bridge doesn't have alot of clearance and it's somewhat dark under there. You'll still have to achieve "line-of-sight" if you loose track of your car but the light underneath should help.

Now that I've pretty much settled on my car setups I will be bringing down all my excess gear to re distribute among the club. All sorts of stuff like knuckles, tower bars, motor mounts and various alloy bits for RWD and AWD platforms.

Hoping for more of that last race result for me (since I podiumed)!
I hope everyone is keen on trying to split cars into catagories soon...we've started a plan so we can get cars of similar caliber racing at once so we avoid rear end collisions from speed differentials.:D
gctkaz
2013.02.05, 12:43 PM
If it's a matter of turning down the throttle endpoints, sure! I also wouldn't mind using a cheaper drilled aftermarket motor in the $10-$15 range if everyone can decide on a standard motor. The nicer thing about using a common motor is that a speed differential can still be created by changing gear ratios, but that's a tradeoff that we can decide individually while keeping the raw power more or less the same.
Personally I have the Atomic WC Spec 60T installed in all my 2WD cars, but it looks like the PN PNWC 70T stock motor might be another good choice. I would be willing to purchase a few of these motors for personal use or donate an extra bit of money so the club can purchase handout motors. Any other suggestion? And what to use for AWD?
TheSteve
2013.02.05, 01:19 PM
I still vote Kyosho stock motors and plastic motor pods - the bonus is that all cars include them right out of the box, nothing to buy.
RFick73
2013.02.05, 01:26 PM
Ewww!
But yes, I'd like to see the "Stock" class as close to as possible.
Which would leave most guys cars in the Semi-Stock catagory.
I'm still hashing out the class details, but believe me, there will be enough of them that some people may have to do a buncha swapping parts to be part of them all, or just dial their cars into a select few of them.
I'll be working on this during the week & it will be something we can all talk about on Sunday!
And if you haven't told your friends about us yet, bring um on out! We typically have loaners!
gctkaz
2013.02.05, 02:50 PM
The main issue I have with the stock plastic pod is that you lose a lot of rear suspension/damping options. Too many parts to swap out and not only changes the speed but the handling also. I have a car just for casual driving that I could use a stock plastic pod with, but for the sake of convenience I think using a standard higher turn drilled motor will minimize the amount of parts to be swapped for event races.
DaveW
2013.02.05, 11:57 PM
I'm all for "class racing" as long as there's time for open running as well.
I'm of the opinion that if you want a "stock class" then require everyone to use the kyosho stock motor/pcb so everyone's somewhat on the same playing field power wise. Suspension mods, motor mount, dps, have at 'er.
It could also be that we choose a motor for "stock class" and have that be the standard, but, as Steve mentioned, every rwd comes with a motor so supply won't be an issue. Punch a couple of holes in the can and any motor mount can be used. (I don't like the plastic mount much myself). If you wanted to, it's easy to swap motors to run in semi-stock or ???? with a drilled motor.
cowboysir
2013.02.08, 09:50 AM
I'm planning on bringing down a box of armatures that most came from kyosho stock motors...if anyone wants to swap them into other cans I'd be more than happy to help them out.
I find the PN 70t is a great "stock" motor.
Spread the word to those that have them...F1 class starts this weekend! I want to start developing everyone's interest in this class for the summer series...F1 on a 150cm wide track will be super fun racing.

This may be doable as my new job has loads of potential with different materials and I'm going to be learning to draw in AutoCad. That alone has limitless possibilities. Would you like the next overpass to have a logo etched on the side? Like I said, limitless possibilities.

What I think would be neat (for buggies) is to have an overpass, but with the centre section cut out. So like a ramp, basically. I guess only one side needs to be raised up, the other side can be at a normal level but there is a wall to clear. If you can't clear it, you have to go around the track again for a super long lap! That's if you are still rubber side down...
Hot wheels loop  I don't think my buggy can go fast enough for that, and the regular Mini-Z might have nose/tail clearance issues if the loop is too tight...

Gonna say, you were quick. There was one point during some laps you were following me and I remember thinking "Derek must be practicing in his garage or something, He's stuck to me like glue". Don't remember what happened after that, I probably did something stupid like taking a rail or something. That'll teach me to watch where I'm goin' :D

I am just going over the points structure & rules now for our points series.
I believe we should have enough put together to give it a go this coming Sunday during the GTG.
I don't see too many issues with it taking up a large chunk of time.
I know most of use don't own enough vehicles or parts to run in each category so it looks like we may just be easily merging some of the categories together. IE: RWD & AWD Stock/Mod.
I think so long as we have 4-5 entrants for a category they should be run separately.
The only exception being F1, I know there are only 3-4 of those out there within our group for now.
I think though, that for points to be awarded, we will need the min 4-5 racers just to keep things fair.
Right now I'm struggling the most with the placing points, the proposed ones currently have quite a large gap in between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc...
I'd like to see the #'s a little closer, like 5points difference max or something.
I have gathered info on points systems across the board & I will either decide what to go with or maybe post up for debate here.
Seeing the cats out of the proverbial bag on the points series, feel free to go look at my ongoing live notes >>HERE (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17269287/Class%20Info%20%26%20Etc.txt)<<
I am constantly updating that document as I work out ideas etc so feel free to check it out often.
It's kinda messy right now but as I narrow it down it'll start to get easier to read & I will start a new thread here on the forum with the official posting for points rules & regs etc.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
Have fun out @ the track this Sunday!

It turns out I have some family stuff tomorrow, so I will miss this GTG.

Hope to run with you all at the next meet.

Yay! It looks likely I should be at this one as well.
Derek, I still desperately need an 015 tie rod for my GT3 machine, so if you could bring a plastic stocker, that would be great!
Thanks DaveW for getting this sorted, and thank you Ryan and DaveW for your dedication in keeping club operations running all this time. Lately I've come to appreciate the individual leadership needed to collect and manage club resources so that we have a place to play.
...that's enough of me being all touchy-feely for now. Hope to see you guys on Sunday.

Derek & Steve, never mind about the tie rod now. I just got one from Benny. It does have a bit more toe-in than I would like though, so if you really want to bring a stock plastic MR-015 tie rod, I wouldn't mind trying it out. Thanks guys, see you Sunday!

It was fun trying not to fall too far behind your Abarth, Steve.
I'm pleased that after 15 months I finally put together a well-working setup for my S15, and the F40 setup is stable and obedient now too. The Celica is a disaster with the PN 50T, I'll have to figure something out for the next meet.

I was very happy with yesterday:
Fun drive from Whistler
Almost a podium all day long (got to get more practice to get more consistent)
My F1 was a big hit with TheSteve
Awesome drive home when I got to Sea to Sky...probably averaged 115kph!
Looking forward to showing up for the next one!

Had a great time yesterday.
There was a ton of close battles - awesome to watch!
Abarth is so cool!
Thanks for any and all feedback - all appreciated. :)
Next GTG on the 21st. - Might be an overpass kinda day - Just thinkin'

I don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier - Steve's Abarth with Kyosho stock motor and my S15 with PN 70T, I had the higher straight line speed most likely just because I was running an 8T pinion vs Steve's 6T. So I hope the 70T is still comparable to Kyosho stock for the purpose of running in GT3. Not like the extra speed on the straightaway could help me take down Steve though :o
I've swapped some motors around - the PN 50T has gone into my F40 for GT2, I've ditched Celica in favour of S15 for my narrow 90mm RM and swapped in the PN 70T for GT3, and the Atomic 60T is now in my casual/GT1 S15 setup.
Curiously I put one of my extra Atomic 60T into my AWD, and the throttle problem I had seems to have gone away, so my AWD might finally see some action at last.
Basically, http://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gifhttp://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gifhttp://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gifS15http://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gifhttp://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gifhttp://www.vwvortex.com/Anthony/Smilies/heart.gif for everything except GT2!
