View Full Version : Is this worth anything?

Hey guys,

First post here and not sure if this is the best section for this. I used to be into Mini-Zs a long while back but have been out of the scene for many years. I was just going through some of my stuff I had in storage and found my old Mini-Z.

I don't really remember much about it except I believe it is a first gen. version. IIRC, I pretty much upgraded everything (including the servo gears) except for the rims and the bearings because I was holding out until I found a set I liked but never did. I remember I was running some kind of electronic turbo on it and I do recall "internally wiring" the turbo wires for a cleaner look, hence the extra cutouts on either side of the top cover. One day the turbo overheated and blew ( I think when I was destroying a buddy in an uphill race) and I have not played with it since then.

I used to live in Hong Kong so I got all of my parts locally and most of the upgrades were from one company. I can't remember the name but I believe it began with a "G". I don't have the shell for it but I remember I was running an NSX shell.

Anyway, I was thinking about trying to get this thing running again but I also might just be interested in getting rid of it to someone who might have more use for it. My question is whether or not this is worth anything at all?

Looks like one or two wires are missing like the antenna wire. I'm thinking if the circuit board is replaced and a new less-outrageous motor is put it in then this thing will be up and running again.

dunno if anybody would pick up a really outdated mr01... with gpm hop-ups....
you just might want to post it in the "mini-z marketplace" wts section/thread... if i remember, there might be some guys looking for mr01 parts...

i figure that if you're looking to get back into mini-z's... take a look at the mr02 or mr03 2.4ghz asf variants... a whole lot better than the original...

hope this helps and welcome back...

If you plan to get back into Mini-z, you'll basically be starting again from scratch. Unless you just play it indoors by yourself I would try to put that car back together.

But the mr-02 & mr-03 with 2.4ghz board/transmitter is a night and day difference from what you have.

That car is a collection of memories for me. A fully hooked up MR01 with the GPM tri-dampener too?... I still use those shocks as top dampeners on some of my cars! I had one just like that all in silver but I sold it because it was just collecting dust anyways.

As far as race-worthiness... nowadays you need every advantage you can muster to stay competitive, but evem if you are only going to just mess around on a personal basis I would think that any 2.4 car will be a real leap beyond what you have there. An MR03 with minor hops is much more driveable than an old school MR01.

Nothing saying you couldn't convert it to a 2.4 though... a MiniZ in it's raw form is still 4AAA batts, and a 130 motor. I've seen MR01s keep up and even surpass MR02s in the past. Anything can be tuned if you're willing to keep trying.

i bought a brand new never used mr-01 chassis just for nostalgia sake. proudly displayed among vintage toys :p those were the days huh ed, lots of glue, tape and anything else you could use to keep them together.

they are essentially worthless unless sentimental or rare. the tech has advanced so far as to make these the 'flinstones' model. i always chuckle seeing them on ebay starting at $100+.

fyi, kyosho jpn did sell a 2.4 mr-01.

Officially or another one of those rare token items like that Nissan Leaf Mini-Z Lite car?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping it had some nostalgic value haha. I guess I'll post it up in the F/S section for $10 bucks shipped to see if anyone wants it. Really just all but gonna throw it away but would rather give it to someone who could may get some use out of some parts.
