For those of you that remember me, it has been a long time since i've done a custom Mini-Z body. My s14 has been consuming my time/money, but I couldn't fight the Mini-Z bug any longer haha.

I recently purchased an AWD chassis, some silver TE37's, 4.5deg camber knuckles, and an FC3S body. I plan to make a Sexy Style kit, or a BN kit for it. Haraguchi spec...lots of camber and really low :)

I will post pictures when the parts arrive later this week.

I'm excited to start a new project!

Here are some pictures of past bodies I have completed so I didn't just completely waste your time.

All the parts arrived finally. I had no idea that the FCs came with body kits now. That was a nice surprise, however it doesn't look realistic. I don't like how it sits over the existing body so it sticks out. I still plan on making my own kit.

So far I have the stance exactly where I want it.

I did the following:
-Shaved down the plastic around the fender wells on all four corners.
-Shaved the drift tires so they don't rub the fenders.
-Added 4.5deg camber knuckles up front, and left the stock 0deg knuckles out back.
-I also made a spacer out of styrene to space the front clip up, so the front end sits a lot lower.
-I removed the springs all together from the rear, since all I will be doing is hardwood floor drifting. The stock front springs are still in.

After making all these changes, it drifts EXACTLY how I want it. So much fun to drive.

Here are the pictures (I ordered some TE's for the rear too, I just wanted to make sure what offset I needed first).

The FC is one of my all time favorite cars and to do it sexy style is an added bonus! Keep up the great work.

I decided I really like the rear bumper that comes with the kit, so I wanted to make it fit a little nicer. I will still be modifying the bumper to sit a little lower to the ground.

I cut the stock rear off the car
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/DSC03185.jpg

Since the add-on bumper fits over the stock bumper, it is a little bit longer than it needs to be once placed against the cut rear end.

Even on this side:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/DSC03186.jpg

Sticks out on this side:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/DSC03187.jpg

So I cut the bumper in half to shorten it to fit:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/DSC03189.jpg

The other pair of TEs came in the mail today so I put them on. I love how flush they fit.

I've also been working on a roof wing and trunk spoiler.

I will continue the wing to the line on the roof with putty, but you get a rough idea.

I'm trying to somewhat copy the foresight wing for the rear.

Here's a picture of the real wing for reference:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/fcwing.jpg

I found an old R32 GTR wing that resembles it. I might extend the sides a little, and i'm still working on the posts.

Small update on the rear end. I trimmed the bumper, glued it on, and added some styrene to make it sit lower. I also added some reinforcement to the back side since i'm sure i'll be smacking into walls (not pictured). I'm leaning more towards a BN sports kit instead of the sexy style one. I'll get some putty on it soon and smooth everything out.

smoothed out the rear a little, still needs work. I need to somehow recreate the moulding strip that went around the top of the rear bumper. Then again this will be basher body, so I probably won't worry about it haha

Started working on the side skirts. My local hobby shop that carried tamiya putty closed down a while back, so I'm trying to make everything out of styrene and glue. I have bondo to smooth everything out, but I hate it. I'll have to order some epoxy putty for the front.

Looks good bro. Gotta get those tires out further though, they don't even look like they're close to rubbing! ;)

Also LMK if you want a new set of trued drift tires for your FC, I'm gonna have an extra set after I'm done with the F40 and I can cut them to however you like (got a tire truer and an aluminum wheel to mount on).

thanks!

I took apart the chassis and cleaned the pot, stopping the terrible servo glitch. So i've been driving the crap out of it, but I did manage to get a little sanding done today. Still have a lot more work to do on the front end to get everything even.

I might try to come up with a way to put springs back on the rear without raising the car up. I noticed that when I go over an uneven spot on the hardwood floor, the car three wheels and loses speed/grip.

wall tap marks :)

Personally I think it'd be a better replica if you shave off the bottom 1mm of plastic from your kit, looking back at the yellow FC your lips are a little too aggressive all the way around. On the other hand, the big lip does make the car look lower without tucking or truing down the tires.

Hope the headlight detail comes out good! Without primer, the corners of your bumper cutout look like they might be cut deeper than the edges. Looking forward to your next update -- motivating me to get off my butt and post the F40 build.

If I shave it off the car will sit way higher, and I'll have to modify the body clips to sit higher to compensate (which I plan on doing on my next s15 project). I made the kit a little bigger, because if I lower the front anymore the car wouldn't be able to turn. I want it to be low and functional. You can only lower a mini-z so much before you lose the ability to turn. That's why I wish they made smaller diameter wheels. If that was the case, I could build a more proportional kit.

Here are some clearance pictures. Photobucket is terrible and wouldn't save the rotated images, sorry. People forget this is like taking a magnifying glass to the car. The tires are less than a mm from the fender all around haha
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/xoxide/DSC03346_zps00db1abd.jpg

full-lock (just enough tire shaved for the suspension to still work)

I'm just painting the headlight buckets. I don't know if i'll make a projector/headlight to go in there. All the pictures of Haraguchi's FC don't have headlights, however the majority of BN kitted FCs do. At this point I just want the car to be done, because I never planned on doing anything this extensive in the first place haha

I hear you on the tire clearance, but since the 1:1 boys already do credit-card fit (gap about 1-1.5mm) our work as 1:28 boys involves doing a 28th of that lol. With the MR03 you can camber the steering axis pretty far, which will pull the wheel down away from the fender as you steer (this is pretty nice -- I had just 0.3mm clearance in the front of my F430). But our MA010s will not do that since the steering axis is vertical, and that's where you can gain some clearance by dumping the stock geometry. If you can afford it, the PN double-A-arm or the Atomic front swing arm kit will allow you to camber in the steering axis and get even lower. :)

Oh yeah, sorry for lagging on posting my project pics, I found out that the F40 doesn't go hellaflush at +3.5N/+3W (would need a LOT of shims) so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I've got an FD that would complement your FC, what say you?

Plus the fact that when a tire rubs the fender on a real car, it has a lot less of an affect. On a mini-z the whole car just stops/spins (for hardwood floor drifting anyway).

I looked into the PN and Atomic Suspension kits. The PN kit is way too expensive haha. As for the atomic one, I read the through the manual and couldn't get any info on camber adjustment. They don't have any different degree knuckles available either. Maybe someone with more brains can explain to me how it works.

Even with the 4.5deg knuckles, the wheel is cambered in so much that the rim was rubbing the shock tower. I had to trim some of the plastic off it. I was thinking about making a custom front deck/knuckles for my next project. I don't know how much you can shave stock knuckles down to get enough for around 7deg of camber without the bearing not being able to seat in the knuckle. We'll see when the time comes haha.

I think i'm going to paint the car today. I was using some crappy testors enamel primer through the body work phase, and didn't realize it was enamel. I tried to sand as much of it off, so I can spray down some Tamiya yellow without problems. I'm just going to do light mist coats. I'm really rusty on painting, and i'm using all my left over stuff. I wish my hobby shop was still open. Wish me luck!

Oh, and yes, an FD would be awesome.

Faze,

I have the i.a.s system for AWD made by atomic and there's not much camber adjustment in the stock kit. I believe you can buy different knuckles...

I don't think they'd suit a hella flush setup.
