I and my son are new to the mini-z cars. I was given a used car but no controller. my son loves this car and after getting a controller and running it for a while we have some parts we need to score. Also since we are new to this, we do not know what version we have...so here goes....

1. car we have is the yellow Corvette, what version chassis is that? can other bodies fit it? i will try to find some identifying marks on the chassis somewhere to pinpoint this, i know its old though, 2006 or 2008
2. where can we get decent deals on parts? the black 6 tooth pinion gear on the motor(which is original) is not meshing well with the large white gear. we would be interested in replacing both gears. Also the car fell of his desk the other day and the plastic rear suspension plate snapped, so that needs replacing as well.
3. I have a second car and controller, its a red audi coupe, there isnt a motor in it, do all the cars use the same motor size?

Thanks, sorry for the annoying questions, we have to start somewhere.

Are the batteries in a lay flat configuration or are they stacked on top of each other on both sides?

The MR02 is the lay flat, in the MR01 they are stacked on the sides.

The Corvette body is a 94mm wheelbase so almost any 94mm body will fit on with the appropriate wheels and nose-clip (which come with new Autoscales anyways) The Corvettes were sold in MR01 and MR02 configurations, excellent racing body too!

Depending on the type of motor mount you have, it either comes with different thicknesses of shims or plates that install on both ends of the motor that set the gear shim. I'm betting you have an RM (rear mount type) that has a clip to secure it into the motor mount. I used to use sheets of plastic or rectangles of scrap paper to shim the motor into a stock plastic mount. Set it so there is just a hairs width of free play between the diff gear and the pinion gear. (I also recommend going up to a 9 tooth pinion! :D)

The rear suspension plate is usually the first thing to go, I recommend a carbon plate or a fiberglass one. make sure you know which chassis you have first though. Screw type motor mounts with interchangeable lengths, alloy front knuckles, ball diffs, more aftermarket than you can imagine for the Zs... prepare to lose your mind shopping for these cars!

They are all 130 style mabuchi motors, I recommend a Kyosho Xspeed for starters or a PN Racing 70turn.

Not annoying questions... we've all been there!

so the corvette we have is a MR01. its the C-5 from 2002 i guess. the batteries are stacked 2 on each side of the chassis.

i believe there is a clip holding the motor in as you described.

if I go to a 9tooth pin gear, would I need to replace the large white axle gear that it meshes with? or will the 9tooth mesh just fine? or should i get both just because of wear? old white axle gear with new pinion gear = bad mesh just like new bicycle chain with old cogs

whats the best method of pulling the pinion gear if one does not have a puller?

thanks

To shim out to a 9 tooth setting. you would have to add the plastic shim into the motor mount before you clip the motor in. You may have them on hand, maybe not. they are little plastic rectangles that came with the RTR kit. You may also have to remove the shim on the clip itself, my guess is that if you were running a 6 tooth, there is probably a little square of plastic installed onto the clip.

You do not have to change the diff gear, unless the teeth are totally shot.

As far as pulling the pinion, if it's a stock plastic pinion it should just pull off with your fingers. Or just get a small screw driver behind it and pry it off.

An MR01 is still a cool car if you're just beating it around... the only thing I would suggest is to be careful of those servo gears because there are no servo savers on the MR01. Front collisions can snap the teeth off of the servo gears inside.

Here's our MR01 forum, may help you decide what to get if there's some pics on there, pretty sure there may be some setup information as well:

hi and welcome to the forums.... :D

initially i believe that the corvette was a mr01 body, although i haven't tried, i think you can fit it on the mr02 chassis with the proper rims... to check out what chassis you have check out the pics and history lesson below...

here's the mr01 and what bodies initially came out...

and the latest mr03

history...

first came the mr01...

then the mr02 - the breakthrough was the incorporated servo saver which the mr01 didn't have... and the lower center of gravity due to the configuration of the batteries

then the mr015.... which was like the original mr01 but with a built in servo saver...

since some bodies were chassis specific... like some mr01 bodies couldn't fit the mr02 chassis... and vice versa...
kyosho came out with the mr03 which is basically a one chassis fits all bodies kinda thing...

Also the car fell of his desk the other day and the plastic rear suspension plate snapped, so that needs replacing as well.

if it's a mr01 i'm not quite sure that you can get parts these days as kyosho no longer makes them... but some parts are compatible/interchangable... you can try the shop here as pointed out by imxlr8ed...

3. I have a second car and controller, its a red audi coupe, there isnt a motor in it, do all the cars use the same motor size?
yes all motors are compatible... they are 130 sized motors... as a side note though, kyosho is just about to release a brushless motor...

click on the link to the official kyosho site to see the online manua pertaining to what chassis you havel and what parts you are lacking or might need...
