That's right MBMZR is gearing up for an exciting new year and we are looking forward to kicking the year off right with our winter event!

The event will be held on Saturday the 26th of January, 2013. We will open for practice at the regular 7 am (if people will be here that early), and will start qualifying at 10:30am. In an attempt to get the out of towners out early enough to make the trek home, we will be running 4 minute quallies, and 8 minute mains. This along with our typically frantic pace should have every one done and home by bed time :D

Sponsors are being pursued as of now, but I scored a big one with one our local racers. Industrial Machining and Fab of Florence has jumped into the sponsor scene in a big way. They are putting up a brand new MR-03 kit for the raffle! Thanks to the Wilkes family/business for their participation and support of our track, and the local racing scene!

Instead of our usual elevated RCP tracks, we are trying something new this year, and this event will be the first test. LET's Go Racing is in the process of rearranging it's pit area in order to make space for a much larger track! The track will be CRC's FastTrack HD carpet, which is a proven surface in world wide RC competitions. Going with the larger area, and with the carpet will allow us to get very creative with layouts, and we hope to bring some new interesting things into the MiniZ scale.

Here are a couple of sketches showing a couple of possibilities that I have come up with so far. These layouts have all four foot lanes, which is a little smaller than a 3 wide section of RCP. This should make it considerably easier for beginners, and a bit faster for the fast guys.

http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv77/MBMZR/LETs%20Go%20Racing/2012-12-28_14-32-08_931.jpg

The layout will end up being about 45x30, which is almost 3 times the square footage of our current RCP set up. We are also building a sub-floor so this should end up being an uber smooth consistent surface for racing!

To keep things easy on the tech guys at this event, we are going to run all mod classes with very few rules. We are going to go with GT1. CA1, F1, and a 90mm mod class. The rules for this class will be 86-90mm cars only. The rest of the rules will be the same as the GT1 class, except major modifications to the body for lightening and aerodynamics are legal and encouraged. Wing height rules remain, and the car must have a full width front windshield (The only exception being the Cobra, which has a half width windshield form the factory).

I will post full length detailed rules shortly! I look forward to sharing this new endeavor with my MiniZ racing buddies, so come on out and be the first to win a class on our new surface!

Okay guys, I wanted to share a little teaser of what's to come. I have the carpet in place and settling for installation next week. We will begin construction of the sub-floor Monday afternoon. In the mean time, I threw some walls down on it to do some traction testing.

I am not using all the space, as some of the edges are kind of curled up, so the event layout will be bigger and more efficient than this. It should also look a little more professional :D

I know the big question is going to be about set up. I can not say for sure that things are going to be exactly the same as they are on RCP, but everything should be very close. I took the mini Cooper for a test drive today. I had to put on new rear wheels (my diff gear was dragging running 18mm ones), but kept the same tires (narrow 20s) that I was running on the RCP. I didn't change ANYTHING else. The car is much more fun to drive. I am yet to traction roll, and I'm running A PN 43T motor in it! Look at the speed at the end of the straight. I could never have held that kind of line at that speed on the RCP!

Oh, and BTW, you can't really tell in the video, but the track is really bumpy with the wrinkles from shipping the carpet. Doesn't seem to bother the car as much as un-even RCP tiles do.

i know this is proly a dumb question but when you set track up will those couple pieces of rcp be down or will u get rid of those when track is fully complete

Those are all RCP walls. I left a couple of mats to hold the rails down temporarily. I will have a more permanent system once the sub floor is done. I'll post progress pics in the thread in the MB section. I'll post a completed pic here once its done.

Not sure if any of your crew is interested in doing a 3-4 hour endure race in DC in the next couple of months. We were thinking of a hand out body and motor. Entry fee would be around $40 to cover the body and motors. Min. of 3 man teams. It would be at least a 4 L track with expansion pack and long inside turns. Trophies for 1st,2nd, and 3rd. Please let us know if you are interested. Thanks MK

Good to see this new surface going down Landon. Good luck in the new year. 4 foot lanes should be great for mod cars!

Thanks Philip!

Mike, I think there could be some other interest from our group. Ill talk it up a bit. I'd really like to put my own team together and come up there, but it really depends on timing of the event, and what all the final rules are. Ill be watching your thread with interested eyes but just unsure of how feasible travel will be for me.

Is an AWD chassis legal in any of these classes?

Is an AWD chassis legal in any of these classes?

Please say yes:D. We run a GT mod at Cruizin which includes 2wd and AWD and since ATM started to make 7 degree tires the times are virtualy the same. In fact, the fasters guy out here drives a 2wd not an AWD. The good thing is the AWD wide or narrow don't flip and the 2wd narrow don't flip. Also, I am biased, I like the AWD :D

I have one of these. Isn't it a 90mm body? And can fit a narrow MR-03 under it with a PN 90mm mount???

Yep its a 90mm body can fit MR03 with the ATM or PN 90mm motor mount. It also fits on the 90mm AWD for the carpet:D

Thanks Philip! What are some of the other 90mm bodies? And which are narrow and wide? I found a short list that you posted in the Cruizin thread.

As far as AWD is concerned, still waiting to hear from Landon on if Ait will be allowed and in which classes.

Maybe you should come down for this event. If you get to Winston Salem, NC you can ride the rest of the way with me.

Marwan, I'm going to do rubber tires only, as they have plenty of grip on the crc carpet. Also, you can run an awd in any class you want to. I'll make that note in the rules asap.

We had a tragedy in our family, and I'll be out of touch for a few days.

Got the layout done pretty late yesterday. Ill let you guys know if any one comes to practice tonight what the lap times are like. DR ran a set of batteries through a 70t car today, and was around 19 seconds. IDK if he is coming back to run some laps with more motor.

I hope you can make it Sammich! I met a buddy of yours today, who will likely come by and watch some in the AM.

I am very excited about this event! I can not wait to see how much fun every one has on this new carpet!

Also, I wanted to add in, Chad and I are teaming up with the white body decoration. We have some new top secret (well unless you;ve asked him about them) techniques we are putting to use on these bodies. Needless to say, there has never been a Z paint scheme like what we will be giving away at this one! He is also throwing a couple of Reflex Racing T-shirts our way, to go along with the handful of PN ones I have been saving. Should have close to $500 worth of stuff with the MR-03 Brad Wilkes put up!

Thanks to all the sponsers I am sure Landon will up date the list in the near future.:D

Landon & Marwan - in 90 mm
KB & Terry (that one broght Terry to his knees) lol
Albert & myself ( good job Albert, I thought I had you couple of times in F1)

I know I have left some out, but I am sure LT can shed some light on other examples.

Thanks for all the kind owrds guys! The event was a blast! The carpet was a hit! I can;t wait til the next one!

Podium pics, and results will be posted soon, but unfortunately, I did not get any video this time around. That seems to be a big request for the new carpet, so I will shoot to have some footage of our club race form this week. I would love to be able watch the battle between Terry and KB in the Can Am A-Main. I was fortunate enough to ride behind them for a few minutes in the middle, but it sounded like they were neck and neck for the whole 8 minutes!

I would kill to have a video of the last lap of the 2nd qually in 90mm! That has to be the most fun lap I have ever run! I don't think I'll ever forget it. I found myself right behind a battle between Terry and Marwan for the lead (I thought I was coming to put them a lap down). I had a couple of problems and knew I lost some ground, but I thought I was still ahead of them on the clock. I told Marwan (who was standing right next to me) that I wouldn't interfere with his battle, since I was a lap up. All of a sudden Sarah called out "Marwan is in the lead followed by Terry", and then "10 seconds to go!" I made a nice move on Terry at the bottom of the second straight (pressured him into running a tad wide), then a couple of corners later had a very fun high speed overtake on Marwan to move to the lead two corners from the finish!!

What a day! I'm glad every one had fun. I sure did. Can't wait to do it again :D
