View Full Version : Another new AMZ owner - autoscale wheels don't fit

Just got my AMZ from a local stockist, which is amazing because anything Mini-z related is like hen's teeth here in Australia.

Anyway, I had several issues right up front:

First of all the body mount on my Autoscale body was pressing on the motor, but this was a known issue for me and I just trimmed the mount and it was fine.

The motor mount is a little tricky. If I tighten it all the way to lock the motor in place, it actually squeezes the motor and shifts it back towards the spur gear over time, tightening the mesh and causing binding. The solution is back off the screw a bit so it's just held in place. I find the mesh can be upset by a bad crash, so that's something to watch. Not a big deal though - it just takes one screw to fix it up again.

The ESC/RX combo is mounted using a weird rubber washer system. It's very flimsy, and I lost one of the washers before I'd even noticed them. The other pinged off into space when I wasn't even trying to remove anything. So I used servo tape and the problem was fixed.

A little slop in the steering caused the car to change direction slightly depending on the power, a little thing called torque steer. It was caused by the servo moving. I could have upgraded to the metal mount, but a little more servo tape between the servo and the chassis right on the edge of the chassis and the movement was locked down.

The issue I can't quite fix right now is that the wheels from my autoscale body seem to have a different mounting system to those on the AMZ. So I've still got the AMZ wheels, which have a different offset from the body, so it looks wrong. Does anyone know a solution to this?

As far as wheels go, you are trying to fit ASC AWD wheels? I personally have not changed out my wheels from the stock so I assume they have the D shaped slot like the AWD kyosho wheels. If this is a proprietary setup, then that's a downer.

I don't know, I thought that the autoscale bodies were meant to be universal, but maybe not. There are slots for dogbones in all four wheels, so I assumed they would be compatible with the AWD chassis. Anyway, it looks like I should be able to print adaptors, since the wheels fit over the existing system, so it may yet be salvageable.

I'll post a photo when I have time.

The AMZ uses awd wheels. There are ASC's with both mr-03 wheels and ma-020 wheels. If it's labeled awd then you're okay. If not. You'll need to buy them.

The shop here has a bunch of them on sale in different offsets.

I got the international version kit which doesn't come with wheels or tires. So I ordered these from TinyRc and they fit- Atomic Mini-Z MA-010 Dish Wheel - Wide +2 offset.
