View Full Version : Pinion Gears/Runtime?

I recently did some thorough maintenance on both my F1s, and while I was at it, put in the 9 tooth pinion gears. I had not changed my pinions before, but my racing compadres had, and I was getting passed in the straight a lot.
So that problem got solved, but it seems like I'm losing battery power sooner. This might be a coincidental battery problem, but I wonder if the larger gear is wearing down the batteries faster?

bigger gear = less runtime!

So my theory is correct!

Thanks, man!

bigger gear = more work for motor to do to get to a further to reach speed = more battery draw = less run time ;)

Well the teory about pinions is more or less like this.

Bigger pinion=more top speed
Less running time

Smaller pinion= More acelaration
More running time

PTRracer don't forget less top end with the lower gears!

Chezedog,

Tell us about those blue alloy wheels on the McLaren :)
My guess is GPM

You are correct, sir! GPM wheels on the Jordan as well. THe Whip's Jordan has gold wheels...

slightly off-topic...

i was able to source a 10t pinion gear, and got it into my jordan... hehehe... more top speed:D

That'd be cool...but I'd need a plutonium power source for my car if I had that!
